Victoria is Free for her Birthday
When is Michael's birthday? And will we get him for free, too?
Unlikely
I don't want to jump the gun, but I find it surprising that Michael's birthday isn't given the same sort of bravado as Victoria's. You create two very iconic characters which are loved and adored by many, yet totallly ignore 50% of that base....now now,I better watch what I say just in case they DO decide to celebrate Michael's birthday and I look like a schlep...but I can't recall them celebrating it in the past.
Victoria is Free for her Birthdaythis is cool ... I didn't know she had only 1 birthday ...
FREE base models ... I alreaqdy have them all, but a good catch for newcomers.
I Forgot What My Complaint Was - Complaint ThreadHappy Birthday to Victoria.
Why do I have a feeling, when I look at her, that this isn't her first 20th birthday? Will Michael 8's birthday be forgotten again? At the same time, neither Stephanie nor Aiko got a birthday party.
Victoria is the first figure of DAZ, she's their ambassador when Michael is only her assistant.
Well, if the sale was for Victoria 1's birthday, aka 'Millie', then according to Wikipedia it would be in February..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(3D_figure)
That was 20 years ago, or 1999, so we should have had a 20th anniversary sale for her at that...Of course, that may be back when Zygote owned the figures...
As for Michael 1, the Wiki says he was released concurrently.
According to the Daz database, Millenium Man Michael 1 was released on 1/1/2000, while Millenium Woman Victoria 1, aka 'Millie', was released on 5/30/2001.
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/3/start
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/85/start
So if the Daz product database is to be believed, Michael came first. Michael 1 is Product ID 3, whereas Victoria 1 is Product ID 85...
In any case, I'm only focusing on the 'Genesis 8' figures, and when they were released. Last year's sale was for Victoria 8, and while this year's sale just says 'Victoria', Vic 8 was released on 6/15, so this sale is only a couple of weeks off. If we were being exact, going by Daz's listed date for Victoria 1, the Vic sale is 2 days late.
Anyways, I'm sure some of the longtime veterans can fill in the dates and backstories involved here more accurately. But my understanding is that Victoria and Michaal were released more or less concurrently, which would make since since their base figures were originally created for medical anatomy purposes. Zygote is still doing medical anatomy figures BTW, although Daz Studio isn't listed in the programs that can use their figures list.
On a related note, I did see a mention about the 'boys' essentially being morphs of the girls back then, particularly for the Millenium Youths.
Here's a fascinating interview with Chris Creek, one of the original founders of Daz3D, who has since moved on to other things:
https://community.hivewire3d.com/threads/chris-creek-behind-the-curtain.806/
I wasn't aware that the Salt Lake Comicon guy, Dan Farr, was one of the founders of Daz3D. You learn something new everyday!
But I digress. If Victoria gets birthday sales, so should Micheal! Both came first. As for Aiko, Steph, etc. well if they have an UNBROKEN chain from the Millenium days, by all means they should get birthday sales too!
Disclaimer. I love Aiko. Don't be mad at me Aiko!
Report sales errors here. Missed it? No worries. "There's Always Another Sale™"I don't know if there was supposed to be some banner deal for previous owners, but it's underwhelming to not get any alternate offer for already having all of the base figures, and 4 of the 5 Pro Bundles.
Particularly as bits and pieces of the one bundle I haven't got (V5) trickle through the freebies so often that the only thing of any real significance that I'm missing is the anatomical elements, and even on discount I' m not forking out just for those.
Based on the wording on the sale page I'd say they consider the discounts on related items a good enough offer for people who already own the bundles.
The "thanks frequent buyer" offer I got refered to "Victoria birthday month", so there are probably more sales coming.

For the Morroco sale, I mean...I bought Kala last night (big bundle plus addons) so I should get an extra 20% off the featured artists on the Morroco page PLUS when I add the coupon it should stack right?
It stacks with the offers for buying Kala herself, so I'd say it should.

Not all, actually. Victoria 3 isn't free nor discounted. (i just got some cool texture for her, so i was thinking to get her on sale, guess not this time yet)

And, she's honored with another birthday sale this year!
Poor Michael 8, on the other hand, didn't even get a mention last year. Let alone a sale.
Michael 8 was released on 8/22/2017 btw, according to his Product Information page.

Belated BDay wishes to Mike from Vic
Anyways, even though Michael 8 sometimes is seemingly treated as the unwanted stepchild that some people may forget about at times, I still remember when his birthday is!
Looking forward to your second birthday Michael 8! And if you get overlooked again, well I won't forget you!

It would depend on how it is worded. If you expect it should stack and isn't, you can put in a ticket. I'll also send in an inquiry separately, but it is the weekend.

Store nudity?Chris specifically brought up children in his response to the opening question, and openly stated children may be using Daz Studio. His statement did not even cover the topic of payment providers.
I think its interesting that store pages never disclose that a character model might have nipple textures, or for females how they often have a painted on genital texture on the torso. This torso texture is not part of the genital prop, and sometimes even characters that do not have a specific genital prop texture might still have this torso painted genital.
What I am getting at here is that there is no parental warning on these elements. Yet Chris openly stated that children may be looking at the store and using Daz Studio. These things would seem to be at conflict with each other, regardless of who makes the purchase decision due to this lack of information. A parent buying things for kid has no way of knowing this.
How would a parent who uses Daz Studio for themselves set up a child safe version of the app so that their child can use it, too?Maybe I'm missing something...DAZ is safe for children, because we don't have nudity in the store.
Load almost any Genesis model and turn on the Iray preview with your grandma and kids around and get back to me. LOL.

So which one's hotter, the t- or the a- pose?
So If I stand naked in the middle of Walmart, as long as I am in a T pose its all good and the cops wont arrest me? Fascinating.
Why does the pose matter? That makes no sense. Nudity is nudity regardless of context.
Yeah and I thought this was about nudity in the store

Its the hypocrisy behind the policy and the comment Chris made: "Except that doesn't mean children don't use Studio or look through the store, forums or galleries."
Key part of that talking about children using the program. If you are "protecting" children from the horrors of nudity in the store and gallery, how does it make sense that there is no such protection inside Daz Studio. Again, I point out that these models have these features that are banned in the forum by default on most presets. And none of these items actually state this fact. So the whole argument that the store bans nudity because of children is nonsensical when the app features it so prominently. Very few characters load with clothes on. I can only think of Victoria 4 loading with some underwear on her texture, and maybe a few other characters once in a very rare blue moon.
I don't care if we show naughty stuff. Not one bit. I'm one of the people that thinks the gen prop should not be exclusive to pro bundles, and I would like some kind of way for people to see the full product before they buy. Somehow other sites manage to do this, manage to stay listed on Google, and manage to keep payment providers. This is not a porn site, it is an art asset site. Apparently Daz had an over 18 site at one point but killed it.
Back to sharing, family sharing should be something that can be allowed. If it isn't, IMO the EULA sucks and such a policy is holding back Daz Studio more than helping it. Sharing is how you get more people into Daz and grow the market base. Otherwise, the family member using Daz may just keep it to themselves and nobody else gets anything. Who wants to buy things twice just for their kids? Some people might, but that's ridiculous. For comparison Steam has a policy in place that allows a user to create accounts specifically for their children. They can enable them to install and play games under these accounts without needing to buy the game twice, or more. They can also control exactly what games the child accounts have access to, giving them an element of parental control. Steam is enjoyed by millions of people around the world...and their families.
Such a system would be great for Daz. It would allow a parent to give their kid a children's account to play around with Daz Studio. Then the kid gets older, they can get their own account and start using the program for themselves (thus becoming a paying customer). This would allow Daz a chance to grow naturally along family lines. And maybe the parent does buy items just for their kids along way, too. There are more ways to profit off of this system than making people angry over how they can't share anything. Daz content gets expensive in a hurry.
Female, female, female!!Yet I'm still having problems finding certain specific hairstyles for women. For men there are like 8 models and you can still match anyone. XD
Nothing girds the loins more than a scantily clad Victoria brandishing a sword while a 80's hair band plays in the background.BTW: the specialised male modellers seem to be on Rendo, might want to check there. Agree with the threadstarter though.

As of yesterday, it was this one, according to yesterday's mailer:

And today it's the one you see at the top of the forum and store, with the wee tiny 3D and all white.
I expect in another year or so, the 3D will have entirely disappeared.
Victoria's head is still exploding about the same, though.

Texture Converter 2 (TC2)God, i hate when products disappear from store before i even know about them.
So, any available tools to convert V3/A3 maps to V4/A4 or Genesis?
No there is not, or at least none that I know of. There are products to convert M4/V4 skins to Genesis 3, but TC2 was the only one to support Generation 3 skins. The only way to use Gen 3 skins on any Genesis model without conversion is using this:
