Is there a script to scale luminance?
I'm know nothing of DS scripting, so please tell me if this is a nonsense idea.
I want to export HDR output to other applications, but default settings from Iray don't produce usable data. Image attached. I can assemble a scene built from Stonemason's Sci-Fi Kit, pop in Gothy Punk Victoria 8 HD, and render an Iray image that looks pretty adequate as a tone-mapped TIFF with an exposure value of 13. When I bring in the corresponding EXR into Adobe AE, it's not so good. Everything's way overexposed, and light sources simply overflow into useless NAN's. Post processing the image to bring levels down still fails to recover meaningful values from the light source pixels. However, if I seek out everything in the scene that emits light and reduce their luminances (in this case by 10,000), then the EXR pixels fall into a recognizable range, and lowering the exposure value in the tone mapping tab to 0 will give the TIFF image a reasonable appearance, too.
[Edited to re-insert the unexplained disappearing attachment.]This isn't difficult in a simple scene with a handful of emitters, but a heavy scene with thousands of surfaces to manage becomes unwieldy. Here's my imaginary script idea. Please tell me if anything like it exists. It would go like this.
- I would select the objects in my scene I want processed, most likely all of them.
- I would launch the script.
- The script would have a field where I must enter a floating-point number.
- There would be a checkbox where I could opt to also process the environment intensity.
- I would click the "Go" button.
- The script would search all selected objects to find surfaces with an emission value.
- It would change the luminance of those surfaces, multiplying them by the number I entered.
- It would do the same for all selected light objects,
- and it would change the environment intensity in the same way, if the checkbox was selected.
Such a script would be a colossal time saver for me. Does anybody know of one? If there aren't any, is there a scripting guru who can give guidance, or who can put together a basic one? I bet others besides me could find uses for it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading.
Hallelujah!

It's a layered composition effect of post render editing. It could be done with a set of shots, I thought about doing it but I haven't dared yet, On the other hand there are many parameters in the camera that I am not clear at all regarding the types of lens and effects, but sometimes I have touched them randomly to see if I understood something but something appreciable did not happen. Perhaps with the correct combined values, the effect will be generated directly in the camera.
ahh ok. i don't do much if any post work. not very good at it. i was hoping you did it through daz, and could tell me more specifically how you managed it. i try to avoid post work as much as possible. till i started taking part in the forums a few months ago, i legit thought post work meant, i thought my work was good enough to POST in the gallery or something. my view WAS post work=posted work lol. anyhow, thanks for the response and info.
One of my premises is to try to get to the result of the image from a single render. It is a path as it seems to me, when you want to get to that result you try to squeeze all the resources available by the software and those that you can manage with the options of the software and the resources you have, as in my search for the DOF depth map. But sometimes you have to think I suppose, as in this example, if you are using paint to paint a picture, will you not use varnish after painting, because it is not paint?, or as in the past, will you not use paint of another type, because you think that oil makes better colors or gives more prestige, or will you look for the most expensive pigment that gives you that differential touch?
Well, I have rambled for a while and yes, I share the opinion that one of the most relevant things is to be able to make the image, work, illustration, etc., as you want with the tools with which you are most comfortable and give you that possibility. Currently I don't have knowledge of how to achieve that same effect or resemblance with DAZ's camera parameters, do you know if it's possible?
Greetings and good luck
i was told it is, when someone made the suggestion of it being added to one of my renders. he gave me a small explination on how. but i was never able to get it working. he said the options are in the blades options on the camera. i imagine it's not hard to do. it's just a matter of figuring out what brushes will do it. sadly my hands are too shaky to free hand it even though, i know how. being i can't find daz3d version 1.74 to download and use no more. i decided to finally learn the "new" daz once and for all... "new" meaning, anything newer then the 20 year old 1.74 version. when daz made so many changes to how it worked. that nothing worked the same no more. for years all i would play with was like victoria 3 & 4 era daz. but then daz stopped supporting it, and i started downloading it through torrents. then it fadded away from even there. so maybe 3-4 years ago now. i decided to give into daz's new way of doing the lighting, and other things. the layout, the library. all of it. so i'm still very much in the learning stages, and alway looking to maybe pick up new tricks. sadly i have issues learning from tutorials and stuff. i tend to learn better from talking to people.
and don't feel bad. i'm an over explainer too. i mean i'm really bad... let me explain lol XDIs the atmosphere ruined?(closed)I think @DustRider has a great post. See that. For what it is worth, here is my personal experience.
My use of 3D stuff as a hobby goes back to the Millenium man and Millenium woman, Victoria and Michael 1, when they were used in Poser. But I did not use it very much at first. I became a frequent forum participant during 2011-2022. My participation has dropped off a lot. I have always found the forums to be a great resource for getting peer-to-peer help. This was so important because documentation for the programs owned by Daz3D was often either out of date, or non-existent. And in return I tried to share my experiences, and answer questions if possible.
Administration of the forum, and role of Mods. On the whole, the mods have been fine. I thank them for their dedication, and for putting up with people like me. I have certainly had plenty of my posts deleted and threads locked. And I have been frustrated occasionally when my response to a post got deleted but the post that triggered me did not (perhaps it was misleading in my view). If I was in charge, I would have done it differently. But just as often, when I look in hindsight, I agree with the mods and would have deleted my post also. That is life. It is OK. Thank you, mods.
Reasons for my diminished participation in the forums. My participation in the forums has diminished as I have migrated (gradually) away from Daz3D programs. Around 2012 or so, Daz3D made the choice to direct its resources to Daz Studio, a model manipulator and renderer, instead of Carrara, a full service 3D program. Yes, I made the effort to learn Daz Studio because Iray was a superior renderer for stills. This was 2016-2020, or so. But as I predicted, sending me to Blender and other programs to get the functionality of Carrara would ultimately result in my using Blender for some of the functionality of Daz Studio. So I use Daz Studio (and Carrara) as a step in a workflow that is now primarily in some other program, sometimes but not always Blender. But I still use all the tools in my toolbox, even the older ones, if they will accomplish my task. I still check in the forums to get help, or give help, but far less frequently.
Forum tone. I have always been thankful for the participants in the forums. Special shout out to Wendy. The peer-to-peer help has always been so generous. The quality of help is attested to by the number of forum participants who became PAs. Simply amazing. I have no problem with the overall tone.
Cheers everyone.

Since I made that first post comments have only been about my saying the thread should be closed, not one comment about the suggestions I made...interesting.
For me, it's not so much a suggestion that the thread be closed that bothers me, but anything that would suppress discussion. I have had an incident in which I had a fairly significant issue with a product purchased in the store. I was told I was using the product wrong and basically called an idiot, and then the thread was locked. Well I was not using the product wrong. It just had exactly the issue I said it had. And locking the thread not only left the issue unresolved but the last comment in the thread was the part about me not knowing what I'm doing, and there was no way for me to defend myself. So I felt like closing threads was used as a bit of a weapon, and that makes me a bit sensitive to suggestions that a thread should be closed because there is some negative sentiment about DAZ.
I believe that was the moment I switched from DAZ to Poser. This was during the Victoria 4 era. I eventually came back when I learned DAZ had a built-in ray tracer and I didn't have to sort out how to get Luxrender working anymore. But I continue to see other people complaining about things and getting their posts deleted and threads locked.
I wasn't suppressing discussion, if taken that way then for that part I appoligize. As for you having a complaint and how it was dealt with, I've seen similar over the years, even now. These days they advise going to the product forum where one can find answers. That actually seems smart to me. As for what Richard said about closing threads due to accusations or multiple threads of the same thing, I agree with him. Accusations don't speed up the help and in fact delay it. Multiple threads just clutters up the forum. One thing not mentioned by Richard is when threads get taken over with other topics not related to the original post,
I've had my own problems with Daz (and Richard) for deleted posts and threads that I didn't agree with, in most cases you will get an email when that happens. I've been on the forums a long time, seen the different moods based on what was being posted. My worst experience with Daz was when I first started with the program, I needed help as I was learning, problem was some were more into accussing me of being an idiot, I have no business being here and I should give up on 3D. Fortunately I'm stubborn and very outspoken, then found a different place not on Daz to get help. When I came back, the mood had changed, people were actually helping others new to the program. That's one thing you can count on with the forums, no matter what the mood it, wait 6 months to a year and it'll change.Help find a character

I'm just a Daz+ member so don't have access to the female version though you do get female elements. Used Victoria 9 skin/body altered hips and breats then morphed the Lycan form in and other Lycan elements the wolfs are the Dire Wolfs used some of the other dog breeds/expresions to them gave one a kinda weird mouth but think that adds to the monster aspect of the wolves

Threads are not locked nor posts removed for complaining - possibly for complaints that turn into accusations, but not for complaining and certainly not for reporting issues (though if there are multiple threads on the same issue we may lock or consolidate them).
Unfortunately I cannot recall the occasion you meantion, and presumably it was on the old forum and so not available for checking (I certainly can't see any locked threads, other than an iteration of the Complaint thread, in your current history).

Did Victoria 9 provide a specific male version for it? Did Michael 9 provide a specific female version for it? No, but you could super easily make the opposite gender for them by just dialing in the opposite gender shape.Later we got daz customized opposite genders for the models. With gen 9 you can put boobs and gens on any model, so I think you might be over reacting. The female shape is literally a convenience feature for premier rather than a requirement, unlike Aiko 9. I would dare say, though, you can pretty much replicate Aiko 9 via the toon essentials and some time so even that is probably more of a convenience feature too. While I do get the sentiment behind your post and agree....the pedant in me needs to post the links below ;)
He did note the later release of the opposite-gender add-ons.

@Fae3D > Very nice. With a lot of reflections in the crystal which I suppose meant it was a long render.
Thank you! Yes, the render took overnight and well into the next day. And I had to do it twice, because the first time I forgot to make the "ceiling" of the cave visible, so there was a gap in the reflections >_< I don't have the right graphics card for Iray, so Iray and I have a sort of tense relationship, lol!
I love your pic, I remember doing that all the time as a kid. I was scared of bugs, but they also fascinated me, so I went out and "studied" them often! Not far from my house, though, in case one of the bugs wanted to get too close I wanted to be able to retreat XD

With sliders you can easily do things like change genders and go all out with the customizing.
However, in this case, having Lycan female is required because it's a unique model-the Lycan morph is great, but there are things that just don't work. For example, the feet need the slider to be at or close to 100% to look right. And, well, there isn't an individual morph for it, so you'll get the full bulky Lycan model. M3D Claws look fantastic, but my lady werewolf isn't a bodybuilder so I'm awaiting the female to be released (I have Premier and it look like it isn't available to add to my library yet).
I'd like to reiterate that I do not support putting anything behind the subscription paywall. If anything, this makes it more annoying because you CAN'T easily morph Lycan to female. I suppose you could get Phenotypes for Monsters but a full, dedicated model is always the best way to go.
You can dial in base feminine and breast morphs just fine with the Lycan 9 at 100%. Won't be quite the same, but it will work and there are anatomy textures in Lycan 9 for females.
Yes, I have experimented with it, but for me it's the lupine feet that make me unhappy. It can look okay from the waist up with the breast morphs, but I don't like the full body look. It would have been nice for them to just add the male and female to the base product.
