Hmm, had another play this arvo and it worked

Ran clergy cassock over m4 in poser 11, using the first VWD version (later version ov VWD did nothing I think?)

Then did the same in Carrara with original vwd on M4 as collison, clergy cassock as cloth - worked fine!

On a hunch put in two vertex spheres in carrara and used one as collision and one as cloth - worked fine.

The two speheres didnt work this morning though.

Only thing I have done differently is run it through poser first.... then fire up carrara.

still works though I have closed poser - maybe a coincidence...

I expect the drive to just fail one day and it's not worth replacing 

always worth replacing if it runs carrara :)

Hi Brent. I wish I was only 57. I've been messing around with 3D since the 1990's, but started using DS in 2004. I started with Cinema 4D, Poser, and Carrara Studio. Cinema 4D got too expensive, I prefered Carrara to Poser, and now use DS (and Blender) since Carrara is abandonware. 3d is indeed a fun hobby.

I seldom try to crreate anyone from RL in 3D. I prefer working in a more fantasy related world. I call my work realistic 3D, as I really enjoy making the elements look very 3D, but not so much like a photo of the real world (or photorealistic).

As a side note, if you move this thread to the Commons, you might get a lot more responses.

Thank you Wendy. I have a feeling it worked once on poser then stopped after another go in the same session.  Maybe there-in doth lie a clue. I am using win 10. Perhaps python has been updated and causes the problem. 

Edut from the other place: Installed Python 2.7.11 however CarraraVWDBridge failed on input of VWD location (tried having VWD in C:VWD and ...RuntimePythonposerscriptsVWD). Installed Python 2.7.12 and it appears to have fixed that problem. Now able to save VWD location and start VWD from Carrara. (Windows10 x64)

The fact that you have a suffixed object created means that the dress has been exported and reimported in Carrara. The message is from VWD. Objects have to be visible to be exported (same in Poser and Studio). After the first export, the original dress is hidden and the copy is visible. If you redo one without hidding or deleting the copy and making the original visible again, it won't work.

But all that doesn't account for the first export that should have worked. I had that kind of error when:

the export takes too long. Most of the time, this is due to the "merge vertices" option checked with a high number of vertices.

The obj file is locked. You may have to cleanup the exchange directory (there is an option in VWD Utilities menu).

Carrara crashed somewhere in the process. that hasn't happened to me for a long time.

Hmm anyone working with this successfully ? Still works in poser, but i get errors in carrara

. Tried a few versions. If I don't get an error in carrara then nothing moves in the sim.

it started after my C drive failed and had to be replaced

I have no idea why it removes it but it does or what removes it, Windows Antivirus shouldn't be as whitelisted it 

I don't have any third party AV

I don't want to derail this thread but posted many times on this forum about it over the past couple of years, at this point just saving for a decent Win11 machine with a better GPU instead, hoopefully next year

this one not worth updating to Win 11, no TPM and is not a great PC 

intend to just keep it for Carrara Octane as will not be able to run it on newer tech without a subscription

OK, strange.  If you reinstalled Windows on the new disk (instead of restoring the old system from image/backup) my guess would be Defender didn't install correctly, so exclude/whitelist doesn't work.  I've seen such glitches happen a few times where certain things don't work as they should on a new install.  Running a Windows repair may work in some cases, but I imagine you have tried that.

But otherwise I have no ideas.

Thanks for the tip. It's the tool with the camera icon.
I was able to speed it up a bit by switching from Open GL to software. Everything is rendered a bit faster then.

A script or a preset for a quick little render would certainly be helpful, but in my case, it's mostly to check whether the object is properly positioned on the ground, or whether it's sinking or flying.

That sounds like the spot render tool. I don't think so, but it shouldn't take long. Maybe check your video settings in preferences, like display list (maybe sw vs OpenGL renderer) or see if changing the 3D View controls (interactive) has an effect. It should render pretty quickly and come back. Just hold the X key while you drag a small test render area. In Carrara, we can alter the behavior of even the linear interpolation - adjusting an ease-in and ease-out. This, of course, makes it no longer "Linear", but it's nice to have the ability to use the linear tweener as a starting point and just give it that little difference in behavior. 

Hop into the graph editor and we get handles! :)

Also, coming from Carrara to Daz Studio:

aniMate 2 "Feels" like it was GoFigure's attempt (and a very decent one at that) at bringing Carrara's NLA (non-linear animation) features into Daz Studio.

In Carrara, we can work with all of it as one big system instead of having to switch between "Timeline" and "aniMate 2", for example. It allows us to create NLA clips in various ways, and then they give us many options when using them - very much like aniMate 2.

Mimic Pro for Carrara utilizes this NLA Clip feature. So as it lays its results into the sequencer (Carrara's Timeline) it's laying down NLA clips, which is Uber Powerful.

Likewise, to "Individualize" one character from the next, we can use the NLA system along with facial morphs of the character to create our own custom results for each individual item that Mimic writes - like Expressions, Visemes, etc.,

Updating Carrara could be a real boon to Daz Studio - especially if they could develop it to be able to write animated DUF pose files!

I remember them reporting that they were getting close with allowing Carrara compatibility with the more modern versions of Daz Figure, but then... well... all fell silent. Made me cry!
