Confusion over Figures, Models, Genesis 1-2-3 to 8, Victoria models and so on
I'm still confused. Many costumes and such state that Victoria 8 is a required procuct. I don't see in the DAZ catalogue anywhere to buy the basic Victoria 8 figure/ character or whatever it's called. Where is it in the catalogue and what is the very specific name/SKU?
Are there any Bouffant hairstyles from the 50's , 60's or 70's ?I was probably thinking of oen of these

https://www.daz3d.com/gwen-hair-for-genesis-3-and-2-female-s-and-victoria-4though that's not quite the picture I had in mind.
Remakes of Old Victoria & Michael Clothingmaybe it didn't sell well to warrant a remake. I know I would have no interest in it
This is the link to the dress: https://www.daz3d.com/blue-moods
Firstly, there are thousands of products that I and all other Daz customers have no interest in, but that doesn't mean that any one won't be exactly what other customers are looking for. I'm currently planning some period compositions, some of which will be 30s and art deco based, so I've been collecting suitable items re which the above dress and headpiece are perfect. But these latter could be given variant shapes and a series of materials which would make the costumes great for sci-fi nobles and priestesses, and also for fantasy nobles and sorceresses. Having always loved art deco this costume is ideal for some of my planned compositions despite that there's only the one colour, but being for Victoria 3 I can't use it. There are also other old costumes for V4 & M4 or earlier re which at least to me are nicer designs than current parallels for G2-G8 characters, so I can't see remakes not being popular, or in some cases even more popular than current parallels. There also seem to be more period pieces for the earlier models than for the later, and I've often seen requests for such in this forum.
Daz Studio is neglecting to export a specific morph, but only when I export it as a .dae file.I've tried that, which you would think would make sense, but it's giving me an error that I don't understand. Please note that the error I'm getting is with both my model and in this screenshots' case, it's just the basic victoria 8 model.
Exporting FBX from DAZ, rig comes out messed up in Blender?Psyckosama, the link you provided is Diffeomorphic. I tried Diffeomorphic before, and it also didn't solve my problem. I discussed it earlier in this topic. glossedsfm, pre/post rotation puts the bones in place, but doesn't move the character. Force automatic children did absolutely nothing. Automatic bone rotation also didn't affect it any. andya_b341b7c5f5, I've attached a picture of the Diffeomorphic error. Richard Haseltine, I'm exporting a character model. For the Diffeomorphic error, I used the Victoria model with all of the default DAZ settings, so it's not a problem with my model.Bluejaunte's AmalaBluejaunte, like the people who have applied human eyes and skin to the character, I am another who thinks the alien character deviates a bit too much from the human characters. Of the not-quite-human characters, my favorite is the original Cheetara from an 80's cartoon called Thundercats. She doesn't have cat ears or a round black nose or a tail or anything. She doesn't have any non-human parts. But she has a cat-themed texture. And she has what I consider to be a very good shape for a female character. I'd buy a well-made character like that even though I wouldn't spend money on any of the "Catfolk" or Manga styled characters.
Also, I didn't waste any time paying for a character called Atalya for Genesis 8 Females by Xile3D at Renderosity. The character has blue skin, but they didn't just make a blue character. A lot of effort had been put into the skin to make it very appealing to people like me. I'd pay money for good red, yellow, or green characters if they had good, convincing skin textures like that, with dark and light areas and all.
So I'd personally be more interested if the alien-ness of the character were more about the texture than the shape. Especially the head shape was not quite my style. But I am a person who tries to render realistic humans, so I guess I'm not the target audience for an alien character anyway. But maybe an artist who is known for realistic human characters isn't going to have a target audience full of people looking for characters who don't look like realistic humans.
Inaru is one of my favorites. I'd personally like to see what you can do with a darker skinned character like Raiya's Tessa for G8 or Jazmine HD for Victoria 7. And that smile you've come up with is the best I've seen for one of these characters. I'd like to see somebody do the same with a look of fear or sadness. But I'm just creepy like that. Anyway, good luck with your future projects.
IRAY Photorealism? For the past little while now I've been trying some different things in my renders. Maybe not totally realistic, but at the very least I try to avoid the Daz look, if that makes any sense. Still learning a lot. Wish I would have found this thread sooner.

Daz Install Manager (DIM) 1.2.0.52, Now Available!I've switched back to DIM install only and things are working much smoother now, but one thing is missing. I can't find Victoria 6. She doesn't show up in DIM at all. I've tried searching by SKU even. She still shows as purchased in my product library but is no where to be seen in DIM. I wonder what else is missing from DIM now.
Daz Install Manager (DIM) 1.2.0.52, Now Available!Nevermind last post. I figured it out, in DIM Victoria 6 only has the "connect available" tag. They left off the tag: "Daz Studio 4.5+", so she wasn't showing up because I had filtered out all "connect available" products. I guess I can't use the tags in DIM for filtering as it puts too much trust in updated tags.
Remakes of Old Victoria & Michael ClothingI'm always amazed at how many good outfits there are for old models which I don't use. This V3 add-on along with a full outfit done as a primary outfit would be excellent:
https://www.daz3d.com/blue-moods-head-dressDaz Install Manager (DIM) 1.2.0.52, Now Available!Items installed through Connect can be uninstalled by right-click on the product (in the Products tab of Smart Content or in the list in the Content Library) and selecting Uninstall. Connect and DIM are separate and don't install to the same place or in the same way (Connect uses the /data/cloud folder, and has a separate folder for each product - the Daz Connect list in Daz Studio Formats or Poser Formats is a virtual folder, a composite of the actual install folders).
ah ok, that explains it. I see it starts to create a real mess if installing from both methods. All my assets are disorganized now and difficult to navigate. I think I'm going to have to uninstall all the connect stuff and reinstall it the old way as I just can't get used to it.
If you installed from Connect, and then uninstalled it, does it leave anything behind on the laptop? (the way DIM potentially can if you don't check delete after install)
I just want to make sure I reclaim all space on the drive when uninstalling.
If you install and uninstall via Connect everything will go - it places the files from each product in their own folder (/data/cloud/1_SKU/) and removes that on uninstall. Avoiding potential overlaps/conflicts is one of its benefits, though it's also the reason that ExP figures (such as Victoria 4) can't use Connect

Bryce Render Challenge number 38 «« UNCANNY »»Horo: Well, that living room gets some scary action! Very scary floorcrasher. One point, though. Without debris next to the hole, I guess he is falling in the hole and not coming out. Good riddance! I like your enchanted wood a lot. These gremlins appear to be having lots of fun, their actually glowing.
Adbc: Another form of ‘enchanted wood’ The kittens look cute, which cannot be said from the ‘lady’!
My second one (possibly). This started as an abstract, but turned to be uncanny. The arch is from Alan Armstrong. The lady is Genesis and the elf is Victoria 4.2 with some additions. Except from the posing in DAZ Studio, this is pure Bryce. Title: The chase.
I may decide to withdraw this one, since I've got two other ideas (suddenly boiling over), but am not sure whether I will be able to finalise them before the end of the month.
Blender 2.8 Studio, Carrara 8.5 Studio, rambling while pooped and grumpyIronically Genesis 3 is the only DAZ figure since Michael and Victoria 4 I can get to work retargetting in UE4
so it does have some usefulness
you would think 8 should then too as its in the A pose
but nup, weird weightmapping distortions
I know others use it but I think they go via 3D studio Max and rerig it
it of course works fine as every FBX import will with its own imported animations
it would be moot of course once I master BPs
then I can use my own motions for the keyboard actions and not retarget anything
How long until Gen9?G1 was brilliant. Honestly I consider G2 and even the later generations a solid step back conceptually. The universal mesh made making exotic characters much less painful... I can see why some PAs didn't like it, beause they had to account for a greater degree of deformation... and it also had the issue that Daz hadn't overtaken poser completely yet, and because of that V4/M4 still held on because of greater compatability.
IMHO, Genesis was the only real genesis. The later are just Micheal/Victoria with a borrowed name.
Only way I'll really get into G9 is if it goes back to a universal figure in some way.
Personally, I think a 1/2 step would be best. Universal core mesh but with two in built gender morphs that are markted as the core figures. Allow shared textures, geoshells, and morphs, but without the promiss of absolute inter-gender intercompatability as the core mesh is just there to serve as a bridge, not as a foundation as it was in Genesis.
I like exotics and one of the things that's always pissed me off is the impossibility of mixing genders due to most "exotic" characters being completely mono-gender.
...I agree and still use Genesis "classic" for the many toon characters that were released for it as well as alien and other exotic morphs.
Genesis 1 was best genesis. Was only REAL Genesis.
As ever, perspective matters. I didn't like its bending; G2 was where I really started using Studio, even though I still wasn't thrilled with the bends.
Report sales errors here. "There's Always Another Sale™"Yes, proofreading is not a priority. If it makes you feel any better, it isn't a priority for the writers I edit for :( You may not see any Select Free items if you own them all. Has anyone unchecked Hide Items I Own (if you have Daz Deals) or viewed while logged out?
Good idea but yes I tried this and it did not work, I still do not see any free items to select from. All items I have purchased were there though.
I don't even see a SECTION for the "Select Free Items" on the Anniversery Sale page at all.
There was the free HD Addons on yesterday's sales page. I'm guessing the "Buy any Debut New to get a Select FREE* Items below" in the Debut New Releases section is leftover and needs to be removed.
Could be. I picked up the Victoria 7 HD Add-On yesterday.
Oh well, just did pick up a combo of Brute 8 Pro bundle and Gianni 7 Pro bundle for $40! There's a flash sale on for buy a G8 bundle, get G3 or G2 bundle free.
And eventually I will just checkout the big wishlist I assembled this morning even if no free item.
V8 EyebrowsI'm guessing you both have this product: https://www.daz3d.com/eyedeas-5-extended-for-genesis-8-female-s - that's where those morphs seem to come from. The Victoria 8 eyebrows themselves have no morphs whatsover, according to the manifest file from DIM.
Yup. Thanks, @MelanieL. It was really worth the money, even though I'd forgotten all about it.

V8 EyebrowsSorry for the lapse, guys, but I just got a chance to check out what you were saying, and I don't know why your setup doesn't show it. I'm afraid I'm having an issue with my Screenshots on my Daz computer. Even though you appear to have done the right thing, just in case, here, step by step, is what I did:
Select "Victoria 8 Eyebrows" in the Scene tab.
Open Parameters tab, and "Actor" should be immediately below "General" and immediately above "Display."
Click on "Actor," and you will see 17 morphs (plus 2 greyed-out morphs on top---if you have Show Hidden enabled).
These morphs allow a great deal of variety and coverage, regardless of the character's head sahpe.
I get them, these are the brows loaded from People>Genesis 8 Female>Anatomy>Victoria 8 Eyebrows
