IMNSHO, the biggest difference is the modeling tools and a more general purpose.

Daz Studio and Poser started out pretty much dedicated to human figures: posing them, doing a little bit of sculpting and shaping, and rendering them, either in place or animation.

Carrara started out as a modeling and editing suite. It had its own content, sure, but central to it was the notion of the various editors with which you could sculpt new shapes. Carrara also contains the tools like bones and mesh manipulation to constrain, distort, pose, and animate those figures.

Yes, there is a general particle system. There are also separate systems for fog ("volumetric clouds") and fire, and a "realistic sky" system that gives you control over cloud cover and sun and moon positioning. I admit, though, that I myself am not quite sure how to manage rain. Someone will be along soon to explain how to do that, I'm sure.

Well its now Sunday morning (6am central US time) and the fast grab items haven’t changed since at least Thursday the 5th.

First we get late switch over times where they don’t change up until the afternoon sometime (instead of around 1 am) and now we don’t get them changed up for the weekend at all let alone for Friday. Its getting kind of old guys.

Is this leading into the possibility that DAZ is going to be cancelling the Fast Grab like they did the weekly freebie?

Some time back, I did something similar, using the nacelles a bit farther inboard so that the wings went through them and continued as stubs outboard of the nacelles. I'll have to see if I can dig the image up.

I'm looking forward to what you do with the Dart (and thanks! ;)); I know your creative mind always gets the best out of everything ;).

Great idea Bill! I love the Lear jet look over the traditional one, it just has a sleeker feel to it even though the wings make it wider. With a little further tweaking I could see it working as a fighter/bomber or close air support vehicle for ground troops, but that is just the way my mind thinks.

Title - Two tickets to paradise - final entry (number 2 for me)

Artist - Diomede64

- 3 original or modified items with notes on creation/modification process,
1) computer monitor - modeled and uvmapped in vertex modeler - screen shot buying tickets saved to uvmap in photoshop elements
2) computer keyboard - modeled in vertex modeler. Started with grid with enough polygons for keys, etc. Added thickness. Selected keys area on top and extruded without linking. Repeated for space bar, etc. For grins, uvmapped and painted the letters on the keys.
3) printer - modeled and uvmapped in vertex modeling room. Added bones so that the top could be opened and closed.
(everything else was also made using Carrara’s modelers).

Made and uvmapped some office equipment in C8.1. Added 3 point lighting and a softer central bulb light. Took a screen shot of a list of upcoming Eddie Money appearances. Used Photoshop to apply the screen shot to the uvmap of the computer monitor screen. I hope that is not a violation of some sort. Rendered using Toon effect.

Made and uvmapped some office equipment in C8.1. Added 3 point lighting and a softer central bulb light. Took a screen shot of a list of upcoming Eddie Money appearances. Used Photoshop to apply the screen shot to the uvmap of the computer monitor screen. I hope that is not a violation of some sort.

Just playing around in the vertex modeling room on a rainy vacation day. Have my laptop but not my desktop or content storage media. Image and screen shot of my C8.1 assembly room attached.

The community movie project never did move off to some other location - personally I had some rl things that made my free 3d time contract but as far as I can tell it kind of lost direction. I am hoping maybe having a central place to meet and organize might be helpful to keep things going for that sort of thing. . Its not easy. - trying to get a number of folks to get time, agree to one story and work together. Not so easy but maybe with your site it can be a hub of sorts and an incubus of animation skills and peoples who want to learn and practice.

The good thing is that there seems like 8.5 might be getting some new folks interested in Carrara and maybe with a 9 on the horizon ( no matter how long a horizon) --- there are more folks who might be willing to work together now and in the future . It really is hard for folks to buy in to a community project and work on something that maybe is not their love. ---The ccmp (carrara community movie project) ran into that with story lines and polls and it really takes a great effort to get things going to "please" everyone. The thing is there are some very talented folks still using Carrara ---who definitely could make something work.
In hindsight I think maybe the direction should be ----start with small short stories ---and so no one is stuck with working on something too long they do not like.......to me ----working on just rudimentary animation things would be great as group --"The heavy push" etc things like that. Animations were a group could gather their talents and work on something of short duration but very detailed to allow more folks a chance to practice and learn all the things needed to be done. And build up a core group of animators, modelers, texture/shader makers etc------and maybe building up this way to be able to make a significant short.

Is now hideously bright outside. I have zero desire and almost no motivation to go gallivanting about in the heat and humidity.

No renders today, going to try to compose a new song - the first in 5 months! :cheese: I think a nice ambient rock/metal song. :coolsmile: Strictly instrumental.
