-HOLY SMOKES! AN UPDATE!- Carrara Challenge V: Movie Night - Work In Progress (WIP) thread.
Just noticed the whole midnight MT time-Zone thingy. I noticed when I typed it as well, but it didn't dawn on me that I would actually have to do it. ;-) I may open the thread a few hours earlier, as I have to go to bed so that I can get up for work at 4:40 AM Central time.
Don't worry, I'll make sure the closing time is not moved up.
color code for hairA: Hair color charts are manufacturer specific, i.e. Redken, SoColor, etc... and they are specific for their intended purpose only, selling said manufacturer's product.
B: Hair color is made up of many aspects, not a single color. What one would need to show true color would be a somewhat complex shader with many variables for different types/conditions of hair. Just as a start, no one's hair is actually a single color.
C: Hair will continue to be an area that will challenge 3D graphics for the near future probably.
D: That color chart is very off, compared to general industry standards, at least in the U.S. Jet Black is very black black. Dark brown is so dark most people not in the industry would think of it as black, and all of the colors there have a red hue, including the 'ash' colors which by definition should lean towards green actually.
Having said that, what you want might not be as complicated as all of that but I'm not sure how to answer your question other then that, given all of the variables.
Best wishes and good luck.
Footnote: The whole golden/auburn/ash thing got me thinking... one might be able to increase realism in hair while simplifying the different colors, basically along the lines of what you are looking for, by using a sss shader with the main color being a pantone style color and having yellow/red/green sss colors applied to the central base pantone style color. To increase realism, I would have a variation in the base color so that the hair is not too uniform. The variation for most colors should be very slight (single shade in 2 directions with the bulk color the central one. At least that's where I would start my experimentation. The problem with that is it would probably be render intensive. *Forgot, a gloss shell with variable strength...
Combine that with a fibermesh style hair that had a good rigging system and controllable cloth like physics... :)
OT your avatarI'm into photography and snap plenty of pictures regularly. This one is a carved relief over the front entrance of my local Central Technical high school, and it represents the "trades" taught inside. There's a companion statue on the other side of the entrance representing academia. It wasn't the school I went to, but I thought the broken hammer had some significance. Might be time to change it.

This is very very cool, the scenes and story are engaging, my only problem was motion sickness :) I can't imagine how long this must have taken to render!

Sci-Fi Corridor LightingGreat. Thanks for the help!
I changed exactly what you told me:
- the light on the central door is more subtle and wider
- the doors use some additional bump effect
- the DOF is a bit more subtle now-HOLY SMOKES! AN UPDATE!- Carrara Challenge V: Movie Night - Work In Progress (WIP) thread.Varsel - those spline models are amazing. Great to see what can be done in the hands of a master.
EP - if you go Sinbad, you better go strong. I think Stu set a pretty high bar.
I finally got the screen of the second TV to glow. I "cheated" by making the flat screen frame in the spline modeler but made the central screen in the vertex modeler. It simplified using the glow channel for the screen. The following was a lighting test. The poltergeist TV render is applied as a texture map to the screen of the flatscreen tv. Anything glows is applied to the screen, with the glow channel as the light.
The primitives are there to test the lighting. Seems to be working.
-HOLY SMOKES! AN UPDATE!- Carrara Challenge V: Movie Night - Work In Progress (WIP) thread.I blame Stu for this idea... ;-)
I'm working on a set for the climactic scene in Ray Harryhausen's, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. The central stair feature is a spline model and the pedestal for the guardian/Sabertooth cat is a vertex cube that I displacement painted. Sgaders are a work in progress.
David Brinnen's Looped Cube Thingie & DangerLad's Render@FranontheEdge - You are not gone to believe this but I just located the scene file for this particular image. I am attaching the material settings I used for the purple central cube.
Also I am include the Outer Sphere picture and material settings which were use for the reflections.
I hope this will help. And I am sorry that it took me such a long time to locate. (I wasn't even looking for it today.)

Nothing to lose by asking. Same for Europe.
Except you will have to wait two weeks+ to get a response.

Unfortunately when the prices changed during checkout I cancelled and I dumped everything into my wishlist. Here's hoping Osteres has another great sale in the near future.

The Gallery is back...but how does it work?Swawa3D said:DAZ_Jon: Thanks for giving us more info. I think DAZ does a good job of balancing making the site family friendly without being ridiculously strict. Any word on the details of the contest, as far as if only newly posted images will qualify each week?LycanthropeX: I looked you up on dA (unless someone else has your name) & I don't see anything posted there that I think would not be DAZ friendly. Of course you may be referring to other images. Form fitting I don't see being an issue unless maybe it strongly shows the contours of the underlying anatomy?
there isn't much of my work anywhere on the web anymore, the last month or so i have been taking down more art than i have been putting up. I am really trying to get all my work in one central location where I can post everything, from my silly cartoons to my most extreme pieces. I think I only have like 5 images over at DA and those are probably coming down soon, my youtube videos will be coming down soon, pretty much everything is coming down. I'm just restructuring and reorganizing. I want to get a lot of my older stuff out of the way and focus on my newer stuff and form a better representation of my work at my current skill level. So yeah, there really is very little of my work anywhere at the moment.
Double sided clothes with clean UV mapsIt's not usually a good choice to use Solidify in Blender for finishing clothes. It's better to model your base shape, then select an outer ring at the end of a sleeve or hem, extrude, and alt+s or s to scale it inward. Then extrude again and scale slightly to create the full coved edge. You will have normals issues with fully solid areas connected to the outside of a single-layer area.
This way you can just extend your existing seams through the coved area and not suffer major disruption of the UV (pin the central areas of existing islands and use live unwrap to just add the finished areas). I'd only put it on a separate island if you really need a "full" skirt liner (and that's almost never going to be a good idea because it will absolutely fight with collision and smoothing).

As i said, i like to see a mix of images on the front page, not just one person who keeps uploading a whole ton at once.
Yeah, I remember that being a problem on ZBrush Central for a long time. The mods finally figured out a way to curb it, but I'm not sure what they did. I think they just added an extra row of thumbnails and made it so that only your first image would show there.
Looking for a gallery siteOk i'm going to try and clear a few things up because i have gotten some PMs about impressions people are getting about myself and my work based on things said in this thread.
1) I can't show my work here, so all i can do is try to describe it to the best of my abilities, unfortunately i think that is causeing people to get the wrong impression of what it is i do.
2) While my work does often contain partial or full nudity, I do not consider my work porn or erotica in any way. If you are looking at my work and thinking hubba hubba, you have more issues than I do.
3) My work is shocking, its extreme, its very graphic and violent and full of blood guts and gore, but this is not stuff i fantasize about doing. Where my dark muse really comes from is a metaphorical representation of emotions. Everyone at some point has been in an emotional state where they felt like their own emotions were ripping them apart from the inside... I take that feeling and represent it graphically in my art. If you met me in real life, i'm a fairly down to earth well rounded reasonable rational person, i am not a violent person, I try very hard not to do any harm to anyone in any way. I try to be very kind, gentle and helpful to people. My art is my way of purging my demons, I puke all this stuff out of me into an image and then i feel better and can go on being a reasonable nice guy. If my work is so sick and twisted, why do I want to show it to others? Quite honestly because over the years, those who have seen my more extreme pieces tell me how much it helped them. I get messages and emails all the time from fans of my work. They say things like a certain piece i did really captured how they felt when their wife died, or someone will say, that is exactly how I felt when I was with my ex husband. And they tell me how much my art helps them.
But yeah, basically my work is a metaphor for extreme emotional states, things we all feel or have felt at some time. Imagine a time when you were the most angry you have ever been, remember what that felt like, imagine when you were the most scared, or the most depressed, or what ever, then imagine what that emotion might look like if it were a physical thing that you could see in front of you. And it doesn't even have to be a negative emotion. Some times being in love can make you feel torn apart or consumed. Or you might feel so happy you are going to burst. So thats my muse, thats where my dark creepy sick twisted art comes from.
And thats not the only type of art I do either. I have a range of styles and genres i work in, some times i am doing cute fluffy bunnies, some times i am doing sick demon zombie bunnies, i run the full range.
I've had my work spread out over the internet for a few years now, what I am really looking for is to get it all gathered up into one central location so that anyone who wants to find my work can go there to see it.
So I hope that clears things up a little so ya all don't think I'm some dangerous psycho killer or something, I know my work is extreme and shocking and not what everyone wants to see, but there are people who get my work and do want to see it. I'm just looking for a good place for it.

A government issue tram shelter, Oscar Mike Golf those were the days  We know from experience now that isolated and enclosed public spaces aren't good for rough sleepers, they are often victims of opportunity crime and nobody can hear cries for help.
As opposed to cries for help in a back alley, cardboard box, or abandoned building? I don't think it's nice or safe to be homeless no matter where you call it home. I feel bad for the homeless...and hope I won't be joining them.

An intractable problem here in central Melbourne, we try to minimise harm because that's all we are able to do.
Blender 2.66 WOW...I'm somewhat familiar with Shade. Looking at it's features though I feel it is somewhat redundant with Carrara 8.5 which I already have (even to the symmetric/mirrored modelling). Also only the Pro version can import/export formats that I already can with Hexagon and Carrara, or could with Metasequoia.
Metasequoia.appears to be closer to what I am looking for, a dedicated modelling application without all the other features I don't need as I already have them with other softwares. Also, the price is very attractive. My only concern is support after purchase as it appears it is a single individual who is marketing it.
My reasons for pushing the UI question regarding Blender are that I know it is a powerful application that has a lot of support. I would like to stay with it but I just do not have the "technical/programming" mindset to deal with how it's interface functions. I am primarily an artist with an extensive background in the traditional media.so again I tend to work better with more "visual" references which is why the Blender interface as it stands just doesn't work for me. To have to go to the net every couple steps to look up what this or that is supposed to do or how to set a tool up to work more "intuitively" has a heavy impact on the "learning flow" which in turn impedes any sense of workflow to the point I don't feel like I'm really going anywhere with it. I don't know how script (which seems to be central to the customization process) as I just don't grasp it's concepts since I do not "think" in that manner.Again, if someone in development or the community would create scripts for custom layouts that focus on the basic functions in Blender which can be applied and saved as a preset or even the default interface when the programme is opened, that would help smooth some of the steepness out of the curve.
is the store down?Sounds lovely Chohole! :)
I did mention somewhere that in Florida, I am getting a LOT of Cloudfare pages stating they can not connect with the Daz site. It was three days last week at different times, but it was usually afternoon and on several days, afternoon and evening after 8pm Central time. It said the Cloudfare was Miami.
