easy way to improve the cartoon rendering ?
Or try a shader such as
This only works with 3dl rendering, most of the easier Toon shaders do.
Fastest Render Engine for Daz StudiopwToon via 3DL is still the fastest & for most graphic comic storying telling sufficient.
For One to One 'closest realism with the real world' iRay is still faster but also better given the necessary requirement that the two comparitive renders have to match each other pixel for pixel as pixel-perfect and newer nVidia GPUs are improving on that all the time with regards to iRay.
Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.11.0.335! (*UPDATED*)I just loaded an older render (months) that I made in DS4.10, and rendered it in 4.11, and it did not render like 4.10. I retried 4.10 and everything is still good. Maybe something to look at. This is 3DL, PWToon and some of Crescent's free shaders. (one on the right was 4.11, it lost shading and outlining)
Have you (re)installed pwToon since first installing a DS 4 Public beta?

Fastest Render Engine for Daz StudioGiven equivalent complexity of a scene then the answer really is easy - iRay is always faster. People that say 3DL is always faster are doing the equivalent of comparing a 3DL scene setup with a very simplified material & lighting setup, eg, pwToon (an shader material set to exagerate for clarification) , and saying that is the equivalent of an iRay scene and faster. It's not the equivalent of an iRay scene at all, but it is much faster.
You are so wrong, mate!
Care to say why?
Mac user! Would you agree the Jackson's field for 3DL and the Jackson's field for Iray are equally complex, out of the box? With CPU rendering I can render the 3DL version in less than 2 hours while the Iray version takes 30+ hours. To make a long story short! My conclusion: Iray is not "always" faster. And to say that people compare toon rendering to Iray... well no comments. I'm done with this part of the discussion!
They are not equally complex.

Since you are attacking me in an IMO overly aggressive manner I feel obliged to reply.
So your argument is that on your terrible hardware unsuited for the task iRay rendering takes a very long time therefore iRay is not always faster. What a ridiculous argument.
Don't put your own words in my mouth, thank you! My statement is still there if you care to read it.
Inherent in the initial statement was that the hardware would be suited to the task.
Those are your own assumptions, I can't see it.
Not some uber gimped useless garbage. I'll make this simple for you, on two testbenches with identical hardware except for GPU, and the GPU's are as close to identical as possible except for being Radeon and GTX, iRay is always faster than 3DL when rendering a scene not specifically designed to favor 3DL.
I specifically mentioned rendering with CPU.
On a general note, did it ever occur to you that I did not maybe get that hardware as a dedicated rendering rig? I am a hobbyist when it comes to CG, my useless garbage I primarely use to earn a living.

On CPU - nope, Iray will likely lose to an "equivalently complex" contemporary 3Delight raytracer setup (using aweSurface, for example; ask Wowie for specific render times). The reason is simple: Iray isn't optimised for CPUs.
So - not "always".

Show Us Your Iray Renders. Part VIBeen waffling between going for a more illustration style (3DL PWToon) or realist style (Iray) for a possible webcomic. Each has ups and downs.
I was doing this in 3DL, for example, and ran headlong into that old bugaboo, transmaps; what would normally render in 10 mins was looking to take 40-60. Bah.
Personally I like for comics pwToon but I think iRay modded with Sketchy (or your own product) would be a nice sophisticated modern twist to pwToon. I think iRay is perfectly acceptable for comics if one carefully selects materials for contrast between the foreground characters and everything, including characters, in the background but then the same should be done with pwToon too. If you've ever seen Lynara's toon renders think that but with more things needed to establish the panel in the background but with materials to dull and complement the background to the complement of the primary and brighter foreground.

PwToon Shaders, Interior Lines, and EyebrowsHello! I just got PwToon Shaders today and I love them! However, I'm struggling with the "interior lines."
I'm using 3Delight, genesis 1 model, and Crescent's presets for PwToon shaders. The interior lines look too busy and messy for me -- namely the ears, eyes, and mouth. Turning them off looks okay I guess, but I'd rather figure out how to get them to look smooth and even like the exterior lines.
I'm also having an issue with the eyebrows. I have various characters saved as scenes with Genesis Eyebrows. For whatever reason it doesn't remember the "Skin Face" diffuse color texture ever since I saved the characters with Crescent's presets and it loads with the "Skin Face" having no diffuse texture and being all white. If I just reapply the texture it works fine, it's just inconvenient and I don't know why that specific surface isn't saving.
Thank you for your time!
More Non-photorealisitic Renders (NPR II)I keep experimenting and then coming back to PWToon.
I tried using a toon cell shading shader (DZ Toon), wasn't happy with it, recoded my own, still wasn't happy with it... and I've mostly concluded that color shifts really needed to be done to the texture.
I really like the line quality on the dog. And I do like to experiement with texture colors and pwToon shading effects, a lot of interesting effects can be found.
I originally intended for this to be more photoreal, but after hours of render time, it kept coming out grainy. I suspect it's because of all the light sources. So I used some Topaz filters to make it look painted.

The colors on this are great, love it! And good action in the scene.
Thanks
