Animation exercises to try.
I was trying to mimic a basic rig used in a Modo animation tutorial using Carrara and I was looking for ways to transform a mesh other than Morph targets . Morph targets are limiting in that you can only have one morph target for a specific vertice. I figured out that the magnet deformer might work , it took a while to figure out how to set it up but at least it sort of works like in Modo..
Where in the World has the Forum Gremlin gone Now? Complaint ThreadWhat was that NCR device? A comptometer?
Oh buggers! I just lost a tooth filling. Must have swallowed it but there's a hole in my molar where it used to be and I think it took part of the tooth with it.
Dentist warned me it could go soon, I delayed too long and now I'm going to have to at least have a new filling ($$) and he might have to replace the whole top with a cap ($$$).
An NCR device yes, but not a comtometer It was known as a Ledger Posting machine. I worked attached to the Foreign Exchange dealing room of a Major Highstreet bank in the City (London) and did Bought and sold Ledger for the Forward Contracts, It made like large spread sheets on thin card, and also could be fitted with a device to make paper punch tape to transfer to a Main Frame computer.
wow !

The buttons on the top are round, they are all the numeric keys for doing the computations.

You've been heard. Response re: 4.9 and Encryption"Make a wish props" now avaliable on torrent... One day! That's how well encryption and DRM works... *headdesk* If it takes less than a day to decrypt, it's hardly making things difficult for the pirates.
They were offered in DIM the same day since they supposed to be encrypted, so the unencrypted version is what is being shared.
I don't think that was the case with the Make a Wish set, though it had happened with older items. However, I'm also not sure that Make A Wish would be hard to reverse out of DS and rebuild - not like clothes or a figure with lots of ERC and/or overlapping areas to confuse Transfer Utility.

NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6Rating: Recommend Iray Converter for Generation 4
Thanks folks! I've figured it out that everything is inside Content (I don't have a My Library) and it's going smoothly. Rendering Sabby's Cynthia (V4) and showing the WONDERFUL Iray Converter for Generation 4 by 3VDigitimes. If you have V4 or M4 and use Iray, wow wow wow. I'm here wondering though- there's one for Genesis too (I have it) but if folks don't, if they use GenX2 to transfer V4 skins to Genesis, would they apply this first?
Second, when we apply the optimized Genesis 2 Iray shader (it's a shader, right?) and hold down Crtl, get the Material Preset Load Options popup, then choose Ignore instead of Replace what exactly is that doing with the materials? I am going to show you a side by side of Cynthia, I have to say I think I like the one where I DIDN'T hold down Ctrl better. Her eyes have more shine and the skin seems more radiant.
Regarding the What's Hot- a $900 item is one of the most frequently purchased. Really? And the wonderful houseboat and robot (Helper) aren't on there. But yet there are many people spending $900 on a texture editor? Hmmm. So I bought the houseboat as my book is tropical/water based but did any of you buy the houseboat or the bot? Any of you buy the $900 product?
Below, Sabby's Cynthia (V4) (110836) with the mouth reduced/tweaked a bit, the first has default skin, then with the 3VDigitimes Iray skin converter without CTRL and third, with CTRL. I put the last two in my graphics program and clicked back and forth, and really, only the eyes were different. I like it without CTRL, they have more highlights. I did not change any of the converter settings- but it's neat because you have the sliders right there to move and play. Seriously, you gotta get this product if you use Iray and Generation 4! (EDIT: Added a screenshot. SO easy to use! One click, then use the sliders to play with it.) EDIT: Added the options when you click the glossy slider.
BTW, ignore how thin her arms are, I was tweaking an outfit and had to slim the body down, then decided I wanted to see more skin to test the converter. Forgot to beef back up the body. She isn't that thin in the body, honest!) The hair is Kelsie Hair with Slosh's UHT Iray shader on it.
Carrara Challenge #22: “Wild, Wild West” - WIP ThreadSecond try with smaller clouds for smoke.
Second try with smaller clouds for smoke.
Coming together better each time.
While the smoke may be coming from the use of the wall sconces I would add a cigar for perhaps one of the gamblers which would explain the smoke. In many westerns I picture Clint Eastwood with a cigar in the corner of his mouth. I grabbed a free one elsewhere awhile back. There are a few here at DAZ that require buying other things just to get the cigar.
Awkk... just noticed that there is no Deck of Cards... guess the gamblers are only using 10 cards. :)
Up at the Bar there is a Cowboy with a Pipe. Will be adding something else yet.
I have been looking at the http://www.daz3d.com/feralfey-s-poker-play which is the set I used but need to find the deck morph they talk about.
Add a bit more vertical depth to the smoke - at the moment I think it lacks volume. I think you can afford to spread it over more of the ceiling too.
Looks good though :)
Edit: I reckon one of the other players should be hiding something under the table . . . ;)
Already thinking of that we will see what comes out from under the table.
I am still playing with the smoke to get it to what I think I like.
You've been heard. Response re: 4.9 and EncryptionDIM vs DAZ Connect workflow example:
You are working on your laptop with limited HD space and now need a robot for your scene.
You have 3000+ products available. You only installed about 1000 to save space.
DIM workflow:
- Close DAZ Studio
- Open DIM
- Manually scroll down 2000+ products to find those who are robots
- install
- Open DAZ Studio
- load Scene again
- browse to product
How much time does it take you to find your robots in the DIM if you have 2000+ products?
Lets asume it takes you only 1 second to look at each preview image then you spend about 30 minutes searching trough them.
DAZ Connect workflow
- Open smart content tab with subtab "All" selected
- browse to figures/mechanical
- have a look at both installed and uninstalled products at the same time
- click on install
- wait 10 to 30 seconds.
- keep working on your scene
It takes you probably less then 1 minute to find a product with DAZ connect and installing it.
- - -
I can see DIM still being useful in managing software and plugin installations of BETA, General releases and products for 3rd party software like photoshop or e-on vue.
Now that I have gotten used to DAZ Connect there is no way I would ever want to go back to installing products with the DIM again.
Nope, I don't scroll through the products looking for robots, I simply type robots in the store search and up they come, and I have the My Products app and bingo, I have a page full of my bots in under 15 seconds. Let's see, Mars Explorer, Watch Dog, LG06 Combat Mech, the list goes on. And I see the images and can pick exactly what I want. Type it in and my installation is a lot faster than what it was when I tested Connect- about 38 seconds compared to over a minute with Connect.
DIM is my preference.
The estimated time of about one minute I provided to search for a product of a specific category with DAZ connect was including the time it takes to download and install the product.
Just showing the search results in DAZ connect may take 1-xy seconds. The more items there are in the search category the longer it takes for the search to complete. If you searched for the same category just before the search results stay in memory and the view may refresh almost instantly.
Example: figures/mechanical

Alternative file view after installation:

The whole benefit of DAZ Connect is that you do not need to use external applications. There is no need to leave DAZ Studio.
You can perform all search, install and update actions in the same interface.
- - -
I honestly do not know the "My products app".
Who did release this app? How does it work?
Is there any way to transfer the search results of that app over to the DIM?
IF not then you still have to manually enter all product names in the DIM.
With only about 10 products this is not that annoying. In the past I also used the store search and then copy pasted the name of each indiviual product into the DIM
But if you have search results of about 100+ products you may certainly not want to press copy and paste 100 times from the store page to the DIM.
- - -
Example:
Download and install all Shirts for Genesis 2 female
With DAZ connect all you have to do is:
- Place Genesis 2 female in the scene
- open the Smart content tab with subtab "All"
- make sure "Filter by Context is activated"
- browse to the category /wardrobe/shirts

- now you can choose
- use one of the shirts that are allready installed
or
- download all shirts for Genesis 2 female
or
- just download a small selection of shirts for Genesis 2 female that you really want
- - -
As far as I am aware of
- there is no way to filter the search results in the DIM to show only "shirts" that were made for "Genesis 2 female".
- there is no way to filter the search results in the DIM to show only products of certain artists
- there is no way to have a look at a category and show both installed an uninstalled products in the DIM
I guess it would help other users as well if someone could post some screenshots how to install the same selection of shirts for G2F with the help of the store or an app and the DIM.
Mac vs PC: time to migrate? That's an interesting way of doing it. I also gave it some thought but I my living circumstances are such that I have my (silent) iMac in my lounge and the noisy PC is in another room connected by wifi, so no gigabit speeds there. I will mount the drive over the LAN but only to transfer the scene files. I have a mirror of my library on the PC.
I get what you are saying about it finishing before you are ready. I tend to do a series of renders - a kind of picture story - of about 30 or so images. So I start rendering one and while it is doing that I get to work on the next scene (one advantage of using Luxrender). If it is as fast as you say, my workflow will change but, after all, I do want the speed. And now I'll be able to carry on working on a scene while IRay is doing its thing.
I didn't get around to testing my setup yet but I will today (it is 7:00 AM here now). I suspect I will have a bit of a learning curve with IRay now.
15/02NeoSport for G3F (commercial)Looks great! I just wish clothing creators would realize the limitations of creating tops where the design spans the breasts. If the user uses a morph that is not supported, you get the clinging most hate and have to use a fixer or deformer to try and fix it. Maybe a cutout in the middle or something.
NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6BTW, if you go over to Sabby's store, her free section has free mats for some of her characters (like glitter for the eyes) and Cortney is a free Genesis gal. So is Dixie. Haven't tried either of them yet, they appeared to be free characters but I haven't opened the files yet. Bogged down, as you can see. After 9 hours of messing with these, I was seeing file hierarchies floating in front of my eyes even when I went to the kitchen to get my dinner!
From Rendo, some of the ones I have are Sabby: Mayda, EmmaLee, Topaz, Elodie, Bridget, Diamond, Dottie for Dolly, Kaylie and Kyleigh for Dolly, Summer, Suzanne, Cynthia. For SASE it's Bianc, Kahina, Naisa, Siblings Ellie and Everly. SV7 wings in with Annie, Evan, Marna. Those were all on sale at a ridiculous price awhile ago. I was a Prime Member, don't know if it was a special sale for Prime, or if the stores were on sale, but Sabby, SASE, and SV7 are my go-to for character skins and even the characters as they're easy to morph.
Same, except the prime part. I got distracted mid post before. I labeled that screen cap some, to hopefully help some.
I'll guess your 'Daz' over on 'D' is your equivalent of 'My Library'? Hierarchy shouldn't mater as much as your looking at it, as long as the 'Relative path' in the DUF points to the correct path that was in the ZIP. Runtime/textures/Sabby is Runtime/textures/Sabby regardless of where the "My Library" folder above Runtime is kind of thing.
Folder trees is going a bit far. If you have two file managers open (one for My Library, and the other in the Zip), it is just a matter of selecting the data folder in the zip and dragging it over to the other window showing your 'My Library'. You need not create each folder inside each folder, if that's what your doing.

Nipple location on breastsHello everyone. Im a new and learning 3d artist. I have been working on a tribal scene and it jsut doesnt look right with the women of the tribe having their nipples located normally on their breasts. Most tribal womens nipples are located lower on the breats nearer the underbreast. Like they are meant to be suckled while they are hanging forward. I am looking for a tool or morph to move nipples lower on the breasts. If anyone knows of one or DAZ can use this as a suggestion for a new morph dial? Im not good at all with any kind of 3d sculpting tools or softwares, othrerwise I'd try to make one myself or a sculpted body.
NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6Oh, I hate opening technical discussions because I get lost so quickly, but after NINE HOURS yesterday of messing with Rendo content and playing with it, I have some questions. thanks in advance. First, my setup for the content is in D and simply called Daz. (not the default, which is I believe in C and called My Library, etc) Under Daz I have: (usng the numbers on purpose, they aren't there, it's just to help us because those file names are found elsewhere, which is my question.)
1. Content
2. data
3. People
4. Runtime and then Scripts as number 5. Don't need to ask anything about that one.
Here's what messed me up and I figured other people may run into this or have the same questions. I couldn't get not one, but two characters to show up, and I noticed they each had the same setup. So I went back to my laptop and looked at one that DID install, and had success. I think. I'm not sure if the lips are messing up with the morphs, just so you know where I'm heading with this. Cut to the chase: When I extracted the files, they didn't have the word "Content" in front of them, they started with 2.Data or 3.People or 4.Runtime When I put them under Content>Data (NOT 2.data) or Content>People (NOT 3.People) or Content>Runtime (NOT 4.Runtime) they showed up in the files section (Content Library) of the Daz Studio Formats (with the Genesis 2 Female>Characters)
The one I was really iffy about was this one:
Runtime (4) >Libraries>Morphs and it also had Runtime(4) >Libraries>Pose and I put those under Content>Runtime>Libraries then the Pose and Morph sections.
Does it matter that I am putting these in Content> (whatever it is, 1, 2, 3, or 4) instead of putting it directly into 1,2,3 or 4? She showed up (both did) but I'm not sure the lips are right. It's weird, they don't match the promo shots very well but they match the thumbnail image in the studio.
Arrrgh.Hate files. Writing down all the paths for these so I could pull them back out was a pain in the hiney! But if this can help anyone else who has characters not showing up, glad to help. NONE of the extracted files had Content in front of it. Odelle, who I did a week or two ago, was also put in Content>data>DAZ 3D>Genesis 3>Females>Morphs, with CONTENT as the main (is it directory?) folder.
I also noticed there was a DAZ 3d and a daz3d. What's up with that?
4.9 categoriesDRM aside, my biggest problem with 4.9 (from what I am reading on the forum) is it will seriously mess up my workflow categorising my content.
In 4.8 I download via DIM or other site zip, go into Content Library, categorise my new content (highlighted in Blue) from Poser Format and Daz Studio Format into a Folder per product in my Categories with the base model, and materials folders beneath, etc. Logical to me. Clear the blue highlight. Rinse and repeat. This works for DAZ Content, Other sites content, Freebies, Obj I import and save as DUF files, and clothes I transfer from one generation to another and save.
From what I am reading I would download via DIM (I don't want my content spread over yet another folder structure). I have to go into Smart Content (which I never use) or Content Library\Products find the new stuff by name, categorise from there. I went into Products for nearly the first time the other night and there is an unholy mess in each folder of every file for that product, and went into Smart Content in 4.8 last night and found pretty much the same. So (currently) I would have to copy the folder, then go into my Categories and make additional folders and then categorise Materials out of the top folder into the Materials folder etc. And I think I read somewhere that 4.9 doesn't do the New=Blue highlight I use all the time.
I also saw something about not being able to easily move Content and Categories between two computers without logging into Connect each time - not happening. I need to move back a forward as I have a Desktop for Rendering and a Laptop for Setup. I am not downloading separately on two computers and blowing my download limit - went down that road changing over to DIM - never again.
Originally I was going to install 4.9 last weekend, even backed up my Categories and Content to my external drive in preparation. But reading the forums and people losing their categories, that soon became 'I'm on holiday in 2 weeks...' and I'm currently at 'my Zonealarm licence runs out on my second computer in 2 months’ time.' I may yet get to 'I'll stay with 4.8, however much I would like the Iray and 3DL fixes, because content management isn't working for me'.
So tell me how I can categorise my content my 4.8 way in 4.9 and I might take the chance on updating an old computer. And move content back and forward between computers seamlessly, I'll suffer logging into Connect once on each but that is it.
That's what I do also and it's all gone. Generation 5 stuff from Daz & later categorises well by default but any order or poser content is now a real mess.
3Delight Laboratory Thread: tips, questions, experimentsThat's what I thought...so there has to be some other reason (my last post, maybe?).
The cube in Studio on legacy was just a hair over 13 seconds and in RIB just over 12, the first run, but averaging several runs in both it was just a bit over 12. But it was consistently over 2 mins on Catmark.
You could be onto something with the HD morph idea.
But basically, what you're saying is that whenever we export to RIB, we get "standard" Catmull-Clark, correct? It's interesting because I also noticed that LAMH-to-RIB renders differently than just in DS. Not necessarily related to the subdivision thing, but just shows that the RIB generation and the renderer API can receive different data from DS.Yes, it was easy to find with just a cube...then I looked in a couple of others using that at search string.
And I think Kendall made a specific RIB script for LAMH (at least I think he was the one that did it).

I hadn't realized it was just the "Victoria 4" shape that they were doing it to until I tried one of the other morphs and saw that the clothes were Fitted just fine. Not sure if you saw in one of my posts above but there are also some Genesis clothes that aren't Fitting to the "Victoria 4" morph. I've only been using the "B-Girl" outfit as an example here because that was the latest one I tried and attempted to adjust the dials for it but just got totally frustrated.
Also, taking a closer look at the dials I discovered this for the "B-Girl" bottoms:

I re-Fitted them to Genesis, saved it, emptied the scene then brought it back and that "Actor" selection was missing:

I also tried "Edit Mode" but nothing I did there changed anything.

Anyone buy any of those new Jepe products like Special ZThank you Sonja. :) - Wonderful render, Dracorn, love the mood.
And yes, except ThrowZ (DAZ culled the merchant who was my partner in this project), all of my effect packs got an update, but not all are life in store yet - only Z-Bundle I and II - Z-Bundle III and IV will follow. All effect packs now have bigger textures (usually twice the size they were before - means clearer rendering when scaled), all packs now have HQ morphing props - also the very "old" ones from Z-Bundle (FlameZ, SteamZ, DragonFire and ElementZ, means you can morph/deform an effect with 16 different shape morphs now) and additional DS Iray light emitting props with emitting adjustment presets to control how dark or light the effect is (means how much light the effect emits - depends also a bit how much additional light you have in your scene).
Fine to hear the updates are free for all that have bought the packs before. :) Even if you buy a not updated pack today, you will get the update soon, all packs were/are in Q/A. :)
So just to confirm, FlameZ III will be updated to Iray emissives? Right now, it's not updated in the store and neither are the PlateZ bundles. Will all these eventually be updated or do I need to purchase the new ones?
