  • You've been heard. Response re: 4.9 and Encryption

OK...what is really being protected by DRM? Textures, poses, and OBJ's can all be exported or are in a form that can't be encrypted.

Original characters with different UVs (probably?) HD morph characters, hair, and clothing (this list may not be perfect.)

Waiting for verification is annoying, sure - but if it's clearly explained it's understandable, and it only has to happen the first time a card is used (and I assume most of us have used the same payment method tens or hundreds of times at this store.) The way the other site did it bugged me because it almost felt like they were trying to slip it past me so I'd commit to buy before I realised. Explain things really clearly to your customers and they'll (mostly) spend less time being mad at you.

UVs can be exported, hairs can be autofitted to other characters (where they retain all their original morphs) and then exported. Characters with just a single head and body morph (this covers the vast majority of characters available now) can also easily be exported. The main issues with export, as I see it, would be HD morphs, clothing with a lot of correction morphs, and big morph sets. Original figures/creatures may also cause problems, but we see very few of those these days.

  • SimTenero Randomizer OMG!!

    Hello All,

The latest update is live!  Keep your eyes peeled in DIM, the update should be showing soon, if it's not there already.

    Here's what to expect:

Bug Fixed - Figure's scale modifiers are no longer affected by the "undo" button.

New Feature - Added a "Use Limits" checkbox.  When the box is checked, new random morph values will be limited to the pre-defined lower and upper limits.  When the box is unchecked, new values will range from -100% to 100%.

New Feature - Text Filter!!!  Entering text into the box at the top of the Randomizer window and clicking "Apply Filter" will narrow the items in both the Morph and Morph Group lists to items containing the supplied text (it is not case-sensitive).  Please note, this is a filter rather than a search, so entering "word1 word2" will return results that contain the exact text "word1 word2", not results that contain "word1" and/or "word2."  Clicking "Clear Filter" will remove the filter and display all items.

I hope you enjoy the new features! laugh

The characters might be a bust for most people, but anyone using dynamic clothing will likely run clothing through an OBJ export anyway just to weld the seams.

  • Need some help with borked Genesis 2 Female base.

That sounds as if you used File>Save as>Support Assets>Save Modified Assets. Reinstalling the non-zero shapes should fix that. Alternatively, you may have created a master ERC controller (with ERC Freeze) and saved that (File>Save as>Support Assets>Morph Asset) with a non-zero default; zeroing its default value (click the gear icon on the slider, Parameter Settings) and resaving should fix the issue.

  • Figure to Triax and Clothes morphs issue

"Sigh" I really wish they would rip that damned function out of the program.

First off DS can't use Poser's legacy rigging (Parametric), it's never been able to, instead the PZ3 importer plugin converts the rigging into a general WM with hidden helpers to make it bend the same as it does in Poser, with DS4 what you get is a poor mans version of Genesis, a single mesh instead of a collection of props, a separate skeleton, and a general WM that holds the two together.

When you use the "Convert to Triax" function it just deletes the helpers and leaves you with a general WM rig that doesn't bend as well. Then there's the morphs, a Poser figure is nothing more than a collection of props, each prop has it's own morph deltas (targetGeom) and if your lucky there is a master dial in the Body (valueParm) that is ERC connected to each of the dials in the props. Now when you import a Poser figure into DS4 those morph deltas are moved to a hidden group in the root node and an ERC connected dummy dial is left on the bone, when you "Convert to Triax" all of those dials are written out to DSF assets and with V4 that's around 14k files, most of which are totally useless.

What all that means is that if your foolish enough to use the function then you have a total mess on your hands, one that needs a complete re-rig and that's on top of having to rebuild each and every morph and JCM.

I did this to Aiko 3 back in DS4.0 and it took me months just to get the rigging right, I also tried it with V4 in DS4.5 but decided she was just way to much work for my sanity to cope with.

  • Missing morphs on loading Genesis Base

The Starter Essentials have the full figure, some morphs (expressions, and in the case of Genesis quite arnage of shaping morphs), and lower resolution textures plus some hair and clothing. The full morph sets, higher resolution maps, and wardrobes are additional products. As noted the errors you are getting refer to morphs in the Genesis Evolution Head Morphs,

  • Can Genesis 3 clothing be retro-fitted to Genesis 2 figures?

I've picked up the G3F to G2F clone listed above, but is there one available for converting G3F to G1F? I have some G1F-based characters that I just couldn't properly recreate using G2F, plus I need to find the G2F-to-G1F clones as well. There's just way too much stuff in the store to spend hours wading thru, because I always find other stuff that's tempting (yup, I'm definitely one of the DAZ-addicts cheeky).

If you have generation X just copy a G2F clone to Genesis then assign that clone as a clone, rather than a morph in the property hierarchy editor

Also Genesis 2 and Genesi 3 didn't have starter bundles in the store, because with Genesis 2 and 3 the male and female were made as separate figures.  There are morph packs in the store for Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 3 Female , Gensis 2 Male and Gensis 3 Male.

  • Anyone know of a good Anna (Frozen) model?

Remember...Anna is a couple of years (2 maybe) younger than Elsa, so that would explain the slight 'softer' look to her features.

Looks like Girl 6 is now on the must have list (does she ever go on sale?)...the Elsa morph is impossible without her (unless you do A LOT) of custom tweaking.

    My daughter will enjoy it...

You've been here long enough to know everything goes on sale. :)

  • Missing morphs on loading Genesis Base

Morphs are not included in the Essentials packs.  For Genesis, you can purchase separately or in a bundle like http://www.daz3d.com/shop/genesis-evolution-morph-bundle/

The Genesis Starter Bundle, also for purchase, includes the morph bundle. http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-starter-bundle

  • How to delete V4 morphs

Thanks, but I think exporting as a .CR2 will just create a new figure. What I am wanting to do is to just have the morph I have created available in the parameters tab whenever I have a V4.2 loaded. That's the way it works with the Genesis, G2 etc figures. You make a morph in zbrush, GoZ back to DAZ and the morph is there in future whenever you have that figure loaded. Does it not work the same way for V4.2 then?

That was the new and very innovative feature of Genesis...all morphs, all the time.  No need to inject them first (and that's basically what the EXP  and Power Loader are all about...not having to worry if there is space/channels and automatically filling them with your morphs).  So, no V4 is nothing like Genesis when it comes to morphs....unless you perfect the EXP stuff and generate the needed files so it's recognized by PowerLoader, then it is going to have to be injected each time you want to use it.  Or, as long as you don't pass it around, go ahead and generate a new cr2.

Ok, thanks. I didn't know that.

So in that case, let me change my request to this. How can I create a morph file from my zBrush sculpting of V4? (so I can then inject it into V4 in the future)

  • Anyone know where to find a pair of crocs?

I've just used autofit for most characters.  I actually think they work better on Genesis 2 figures than they do on Genesis.  This may not work directly with M4 as I think the rigging is too different between the Gen 4 figures and the Gen 5 figures and I don't know how to re-rig a prop, yet, so I usually only use Gen 4 shoes and clothing on Gen 4 figures unless I'm using the Legacy Shapes.  The only M4 character I've fit these to was the V4 and M4 3D Human Models Shapes for Genesis.  I did have to make a morph to better fit the shoe to M4 for Genesis figure.  I have fit these to both genders of  Genesis 2 characters without problems using autofit.  They work well with Crossfit, too, on the Genesis 2 figures as well as the legacy figures.  These are the only croc type shoes I've seen for any of the figures so I don't know if you'll be able to find one specifically for a gen 4 figure.  I haven't tried them on Gen 3 figures yet.

Those errors look like Genesis Evolution Head Morph errors, meaning you don't own that product. They have nothing to do with Millennium cat or dog products and won't prevent you from using the cat or dog.

  • February, 2016 New User 3D Art Contest “Lighting” (WIP Thread)

The second picture shows a problem with the coat - his legs are going through it.  I'm going to need to create a morph to spread the coat open on either side of his legs so it hangs free and down.  I'm going to start with Sickleyield's Tunic for G2M, but I'm not sure if that will work.  Since I've never created a morph for clothing before, I would appreciate any suggestions how to do it.

As Saphirewild said, there is D-Former that can help you ... and if you own Hexagon 2.5 ... you can use it too.

But are you sure that the outflit havn't some "wing" morphs, move" ?

Or ... you can also try to add the "Smooth modifier" ... tab edit-object in this case or figure and applys a smooth modifier and after in your parameter tab you have to select the "colision item" and after check with the smoothing and colision iterations.

I have an idea to try to use only emissive surfaces and no other light at all.
The first try (not complete because have to add 1 or 2 figures more)

First, thanks for your feedback, Siotrad.  I did pick up Hexagon a while back but haven't played with it much.  I'm going to see what I can do.

I love these space shots.  Wow, you've really challenged yourself by limiting the render to emissive light.  I can't wait to see how this progresses.

That said, the space station does blend into Earth.  Perhaps you can change the angle so that it is backlighted by the glowing gasses?  The contrast of the bright yellow and red against the blue is very nice.  I'm assuming that the point of view is near the moon which is why it is so big.  I'll have to wait to see your other figures before I comment further.

Perhaps you can increase the light being emitted by the sun?  The dawn on Earth seems a little dim.  Also, brighter edge lighting on the space station would make it stand out more.  Perhaps consider adding a a lens flare to the sun to make it appear brighter.

  • February, 2016 New User 3D Art Contest “Lighting” (WIP Thread)

@dracorn  Here are a couple more useful links on using d-formers and creating morphs so that you can keep the morph attached to the item and use again when you load the clothing again.  There really need to be some updated videos as these are for early DS 4.x, but the basic premise is still true for 4.8.  Once you get used to doing them, they are actually quite easy.  You could also use the bridge and take it into Hexagon if you have it and adjust the clothing there and save that as a morph as well.  It depends on how comfortable you are with the d-formers.  You just have to watch the stretching because the d-formers can end up stretching the texture if you move it the wrong way.  However, I find them useful and a handy skill to have in your arsenal of skills.

Thanks!  I'll be sure to take a look at these.

  • Having trouble making facial hair follow custom expression dials on G3F/G3M

Okay, I think I figured out the trick. To fit facial hair from previous generations to Gen3, you have to use Transfer Utility and use None as Projection Template. That's the only way to rig it with a full skeleton including all of Gen3's new facial bones.
