  • will daz come up with alternative tools like 3dxchange? anyone use akeytsu?

Can you elaborate a bit on what features you are looking for?  You can currently import BVH files into Daz, then export an FBX with animations that Unity can import.  Are you looking for more options on the BVH import?

If you haven't tried it already, KeyMate greatly improves the keyframing experience and is a good way to clean up imported BVH animations:

    http://www.daz3d.com/keymate

Also make sure you get the free key culling script by casual It's called "decimator". For DS It is vital for reducing keyframes of BVH for easier editing with graphmate& keymate.

a shame actually that this script is not in the main program as quick temorary solve fix.

what do you think of this workflow?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N-uAS0xS0Y

so you get the animation in iclone,  and if i remember well, you can import iclone animations back in studio, not

Yes Iclone can create excellent animation and supports Daz genesis directly to transfer the motion to genesis to render back in Studio.

thx for reply, seems the 3dxchange is good for fbx between other platforms...
until daz come up with it's own alternative for support genesis platform  in all other main 3d soft.

    another question,

you can create spx (spring effects) to bones in 3dxchange after import in iclone at springeffect to it for movement.
    like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8Mmn4M93nE
now if you with your bvh motion from iclone true 3dxchange and back to studio, will this spring effect movement still be added to the meshrig or lost?

  • New way of doing the Genisys models

After reading all you comment, Gordon228, yep, you're right, in more than 10 years of using DazStudio and creating beautiful custom characters for my pleasure style of rendering I never could make a resemblance morph like Sayumi Michishige in all this years due to broken morphs in nose and eyes.

I will give a reward of $15.29 USD in paypal mode if somebody can do that.

I think the morph could be done, but you'd need the right textures.

Gordon, I think for the better part, what you want can be achieved with morphs available for purchase and free.  You also don't have to sculpt to make some morphs.  You could learn to use DFormers in Daz.  Those can be saved as morph assets as well.

It seems you just want to be able to make characters using various dials and you can do that.  Will it be perfect?  Maybe, maybe not.  But lots are achievable and can come close.  Often they will seem to be more a carcature of the person and that is becasue people in real life are asymmetrical and the 3D figures, for the most part are symmetrical.

  • February, 2016 New User 3D Art Contest “Lighting” (WIP Thread)

    Entitled "State Secrets"

    Comments welcome!

Hey, FyreHeart!  Looks like we have the beginnings something very interesting.  Iray or 3Delight?

First and foremost, what's the story here?  Set this in your mind and then we can work on the details and the lighting to bring it out.  As I look at your render, I'm trying to find some clues as to what is happening.  We have what appears to be an officer in uniform handing a paper with secrets to me the viewer.  The background is just a wall and the officer is in the dark.

So, why is the officer in the dark?  Flesh out your backstory as an author would.  Darkness implies that he does not want to be seen - why?  Is he doing something he should not be doing?  Treason perhaps?  Let us know what your story is so we can make more suggestions.  Think about the clues in his body language, expression and surroundings including props that will tell us the story.

As far as the lighting goes, he looks very flat in the shadows.  Also, in a historical setting there are no spotlights, so you will need to think of where the candles or oil lamps are located that are providing the lighting.

3Delight render. Iray (again) ignores my lighting effects. And yes, that's Michael 4.

Story wise, I was kinda thinking he's just returned from behind enemy lines and is passing on the intel he's gathered. He and his contact (the viewer) suspect their identities are known and counter-intelligence is attempting to stop the transfer of the documents, so they must act quickly and secretly.

I hadn't given much thought to the era. I picked his uniform because it "looked right". The setting is supposed to be a seedy back-alley hotel or bar where nobody asks questions, and a single dim bulb hangs above each table, hence the spotlight effect.

    -Fyreheart

I thaught that I recognized him. He's still one of my goto figures when I'm working on my own ideas. (Used him in a render I did once and my mother said he reminded her of myself. Makes since because the character that he was representing was from a friends online comic and said friend had based on me.) I like your backstory, keep it up.

Heh! I had made a morph like that for Genesis 1 but figured nobody would have use for it. It animates weirdly though.

  • Question about David 3 for Genesis

So I would convert David 3's texture to M4 using Texture Convertor 2 and then Genesis can use M4 textures. Or is there another add on that I need that converts the texture to genesis?

And if David 3 for Genesis makes genesis look like David 3, then why would you need to transfer the morphs?

    Thanks.

If you want a morphed David shape rather than the default shape and there isn't a comparable morph for Genesis.

  • Demon Wings Question (solved)

I think the Up-Down could probably be called Spread/Fold since that seems to what it does, with the Fold morph retitled Fold Back, to make them clearer about what motion is occuring. :)  Awesome looking set, will have to get it when I can.

Yes I agree with you there, it was a last minute inclusion, after I did the fold dial and thought people could use it. Thanks for the feedback !!!

I'm already thinking of tricks to do with it, as I have a character that would make such wings out of tattered shadows, so two sets with one scaled slightly larger over the other and a dark wispy almost foglike texture applied and the normal sized one with the most tattered transmap... Hmm, could almost do something similar to make the burning wing textures look like they've got bits of flame coming off them.  Oh yes, they'll be fun when I can afford them.

Yes I debated if I should just have a one sided wings or not, I modeled it all in Zbrush. I had the idea of mixing the front and back layers to get different effects with transparency maps. Plus I hadn't done Iray transparency before and wasn't sure if I need a gloss map to match them, it turned out you only need the transparency map, as it over rides all other properties. So if you want to make them transparent use the "Hide Back" preset in the edges folder. Another fun thing you can try is making maps for the Emission Color and crank up the Luminance and make them into a light.

Oh yes, was already planning that. Imagine a figure with the wings flapped forward around him, lit only by the burning glow of his wings, (and maybe a dim ambient light to keep it from being too dark.)

I'm curious -- why no Fred Winkler character for The Girl 7?  There's usually a FWA or FWSA morph/texture for new bases.

  • New way of doing the Genisys models

i get what you all saying and having everything be dials so you have a vast number of thing is not good but having it that you still get the sculpted look but have the face/body broken up so you have morphs for viki's eye, mout, nose, cheacks, ect, ect. it means you can still get the sculpted look but also if people do not like a feature of a model they do not need to have it. lets say you like the eyes, mouth, and cheeks of aiko 6 but like everything else of viki 6 how would you do that? the answer you can't atm but what i am suggesting allows for that to happen also it allows for a ton of diffrent nationalitys to be represented as generic morphs for all the stuff i have siad in this post. so you could have say 5 diffrent african morphs for each section and then make a character thats diffrent then the basic affrican morphs and have a skin to go with that thus giving a sculpth with texture but also haveing the fredom to pick and coose what thy like of the models. yes there will be a dial that adds all the stuff of a character. that just makes sense.

I think I get what you're asking for, and your best option is the Body and Face morph packs for whichever base figure you're using. Those give you things like eye shapes and such. While the thought of having characters that have broken down morphs so you can dial in the eye shape without the rest of the sculpt sounds handy, I can guess it'd be quite difficult to make.

But if I don't like Victoria 6's features for example, the head morphs for Genesis 2 female allow me to reshape them. One thing that might be missed is that you can often dial to a negative to 'undo' features that seem to be part of a character. It may not be as effective as it would be if there were a specific 'Aiko's Eye Shape' for example, but it can be useful for customizing a character to your purpose.

good points but as for it being hard to make a character like that i think it would be easy. how else would you have the morph's pack. seeing as i am not character sculpter i would not know.

I am not finding this in my library.  I am guessing that maybe its just a morph pack?  although it doesn't really say one way or the other.  It does mention that the one body is to go with the heads of creature creator but it lists the others as completely separate full body character and or shapes. http://www.daz3d.com/beasts-and-brutes

  • The Guy 7, looks like it's official

I've found that Cory works surprisingly well as an additive morph -- making non-toony males into toony ones, so to speak. And he's also decent at lesser strength. It's just by himself at full strength that he's a bit ... much.

Many treated Hiro the same way.
