  • K4 to Genesis 2 Stumped!

Mikes solution should work. You can get a K4 clone onto Genesis 2, but you have to use GenX (or transfer utility) to get a K4 morph over to G2F or G2M, and then change this morph into a clone.

*gasp*  Does this mean my absolute favorite outfit will get ported over to G2F/G3F????  (http://www.runtimedna.com/Oohlala.html)

That would be one item crossed off my bucket list!!!!  laugh  The thought of this almost makes me as excited as that woman from Independance Day who said "God, I hope they bring back Elvis!"  yes

Only if those vendors decide to port it over. If not, than it'll stay a V4 product only.

Couldn't hurt to ask Littlefox at some point.

But in the meantime it seems to transfer ok to G3f with Wear Them All. The shoes are the only part that gives me trouble.

  • New to Victoria 4.2

As you've noticed, the 4th generation figures don't load with the morphs already active the way the Genesis figures do.  There are 3 ways to activate the morphs:

1 - In the Poser Formats > Pose > Daz' Victoria 4 > Morph Injections folder there are presets to inject sets of morphs (or individual morphs if you don't want them all loaded).  Note that these just activate the morphs, you still need t go to the Parameters pane to dial them in,

2 - If you use DS and install the Powerloader package then a dialog box will open when you load the figure in which you can specify what morphs to inject.

3 - To make her load like Genesis does, load her and inject all the morphs, then save it as a Scene Subset.  The Scene Subset will load with all the morphs available but won't use memory for them if they are left at their default values.

  • Locating Content not installed via Daz Connect.

4.9 still uses the old folder structure for things not installed with Connect, like stuff from other stores and stuff installed with DIM.  Currently you can't install the 4th generation stuff with Connect for purely technical reasons, but that's something they're working on.  So anything that's a morph set for the 4th generation figures is not currently in Connect.  Once they finish and release the updated DIM you'll be able to filter by whether it's available in Connect or not, so it'll be easier to tell what's not available.

The Smart Content pane should  show all your products, however, even though some of them can't be installed with Connect.  Is it not showing them at all, or showing them grayed out?

  • Genesis 3 wish list.

    Desire!
    *Aging Morphs*, from adult up
*Skin", specific to aged M/F ie; liver spots etc,

I disagree partially here. The aging morphs, yes, are very much needed but very sparingly and judiciously. As far as the skin textures rather than a scan of an aged skin that will have too big a mismatch between what the mesh is saying versus what the skin is saying to look realistic or good at all, what is needed are many more skin textures of various skin tones and a blemish, mole, tan, freckle or whatever brush so the individual can easily customize the model's look - e.g. Marilyn Monroe's famous mole.

Or maybe rather that wrinkle morphs and jowls and such we need a wrinkle and jowl morph brush but then you are talking Blender / Z-Brush type features.

  • Selbsthilfegruppe DAZ Studio - Beispiele, Fragen, Diskussion und sonstiges Gequatsche

    Hi Leute,

auch mal Zeit, hier was nachzufragen :)

    Danke vorab!

    Gruß, Peter

Ooooooo, I can't wait for the toon Unicorn to this store.  Had my eye on that for a while but then got busy and it's just sitting my cart at RDNA but at this point, money is an issue but that's OK.  Hopefully it lands here and will be on sale and I can finally get a copy!

I love that Unicorn. I keep trying to morph it into an MLP style pony since it's so much better rigged and set up than any such existing. I'm really looking forward to seeing Star here. :)

Both Star and the Unicorn have Studio versions over there, so they will come over already ready.

BTW, Lady Littlefox has an older item named Diamond which is a little horse (I've used him so much) which would be a better fit for an MLP than even the unicorn. But he's so old maybe he was in Deep Freeze. sad

He was I believe, but he's got the wrong proportions and face.

The baby unicorn has the closest proportions that I've seen, it's just the head needs to be rounded and the muzzle changed. And the hooved smoothed. It already has better rigging, better modelling, more expressive morphs.

  • Genesis 3 wish list.

I have Add-Some-Veins and I use it regularly on V-6 and Gen2 females. I recently upgraded to DS 4.8 with G3 female. ASV does not work with the G3 female. I have a 32-bit system so I cannot use the other vein morph app. Is there going to be an upgrade to ASV that will work with G3 or V7 so I can use on my system with the ASV app?

Me again, I have now updated my system to 64 bit. I can use the Vascularity HD and Add Some Veins morphs but only on the Genesis and G2 models. Is there anything in the works for similiar apps that work with G3, V7 and the newer female models?

  • DAZ Connect news - Encrypted files will be unlocked after 12 months

Well I'm a bit surprised that so many are talking about waiting a year before products they like become unencrypted. I had assumed that most hard-core Daz users were inpulse buyers who snapped up products and only later thought about how to use them.

Personally, I'm starting on rendering out 5 stories that will likely take the next two years (if I last that long), and I'm buying things that I want for those stories. Every new thing that comes out, I look at it and ask myself if it's something I need - or would just like - for those stories: if it is, I buy or wishlist it, if not I pass. As the stories are long and varied, with many locations and characters and cover a variety of genres, there's quite a lot of new content I might buy, but I am not in any way an impulse buyer. Actually I don't absolutely NEED anything - I can do all the stories just using all the content I've amassed since starting this lark in 2004, with conversions and adaptations as necessary. But I will still buy BETTER versions of things - and especially good new versions of things like particular clothes that are native to the figures I am using if it will save me days, weeks even, carefully converting clothing from another figure to the ones I'm using to the quality I require. (For example, I've been working on and off for several weeks just converting a particular pair of Genesis jeans to G2F, including vertex by vertex straightening out what autofit did to the crotch, waistband etc for the G2F version base mesh, then vertex-by-vertex producing a morph to fit the very morphed figure who needs them, then teaching myself how to Triax weightmap just by experiment and studying good examples, to completely vertex by vertex re-weight the thigh bend and side-to-side main and bulge maps ... retexturing only took a few minutes; I would have very cheerfully bought a new offering in the store that fitted all the requirements for the use they're for and been usable for the purpose 'out of the box'. Sadly, none of the existing G2F - or G2M - jeans actually met all the requirements, and out of the assorted options, converting this particular Genesis pair looked to be easiest and liable to produce the best results over adapting/fixing any of the native G2F/M ones. And the G3F offerings are even worse - I see even PAs who managed G2F jeans with good side-to-side bends out to the G2F limits without texture and mesh stretching at the crotch coudn't do the same with their G3F versions.)

On the general point of the thread:

I have a number of issues with DRM/encryption which I've reheared before. Having the encryption undecrypt itself after 12 months is beter than nothing; and as I work entirely through the content library, no smart content, no categories, but arranged (and re-arranged by me) by the folders on my HD as displayed in the content library file view, the vague talk of something to deal with that would be good ...

    But not enough.

I will not buy encrypted content out of principle. Period.

AND I do not use products 'out of the box'. I don't start with thinking 'oh, cool item, what can i render to use it?'. I start from stories in my head (rather like watching a video) that generate with no respect for my content library or what's in the stores, and then have to try and cobble up what I want to render those stories. I don't buy 'characters' - I buy a head morph, a body morph and a texture set to throw into what i have available in each of those ctaegories with no thought I'd actually use them together as the character in the promos (and often just because i want the texture set, not the morphs; I've even bought a Lyoness G2F 'character' just because I wanted only the head morph, and that to be set at 50% mixed with a bunch of other head morphs). I don't buy clothing sets to use as a set together; I buy them as an assortment of items to be available separately to be altered and used with items from other sets (I've even bought clothing sets just because I want one item in the set, and for a different figure, so when I buy it I know I'm going to have to sepnd quite some time carefully converting it, leave aside the fact i also know I'll have to retexture it too). And thats' the thing - I hardly ever can just use content I buy here (or elsewhere) without converting/altering/adapting/enhancing it to be able to do what I got it for (and fixing bugs in the content - so many bugs when you push the content, and don't just use it out the box on or in an unmorphed figure with canned  'model' type poses). And most especially I'm always loading up the data .dsf files of the content into a text editor as part of the process of converting/altering/adapting/enhancing/bug-fixing. I don't have a single work-up session when I'm not spending part of the time with the data dsf files (and sometimes the duf files) in a text editor.

With encrypted content files I won't be able to load the dsf and duf files into my text editor to examine them, learn from them, bug-find and fix them, adapt them, enhance them, cannibalize them, convert them at the quaility I need (or at all, in many cases). Some of the processes I carry out with a text editor I COULD do within the DS interface, but it would take much, much longer, which is unacceptabvle when all use of the computer causes mounting pain through my disability; some I could THEORETICALLY do within the DS interface, but practically I can't (I can often find and fix faulty ERC formulae with the dsfs in a text editor in minutes, even seconds, when in DS I can see there's a fault but just can't see what it is); and some simply can't be done within the DS interface at all.

Nothing I do is outside the TOS - all the adaptations, enhancements, conversions and fixes are purely for my own use, and comes within my right to enjoy fair and full use of my purchase. But with file encryption DAZ are removing my ability to make the full use I wan't to make of the products. Indeed they are taking away ALL the use I want to make of the products. As they are, canned and encrypted they are useless to me: I can only use them as they are 'out of the box' (plus with the bugs in out of the box which i won't even be able to diagnose fully, let alone fix), and there's hardly any content I do use as it comes 'out of the box'.or ever want to.

And, no, I'm not going to buy stuff NOW to have it sitting waiting for 12 months so that I can finally get the dsfs and dufs into a text editor to turn it into what I wanted it for 12 months before (and find and fix the bugs that will be there, just as they've been there in content I've bought over all these years).

Nothing in the DAZ proposal deals with this issue. Using Poser content I'm throwing the cr2s, pz2s and objs into my text editor all the time I'm using it, and have been since 2004 (and, yes, I'm still finding that when I realise I need a whatnot for a scene, a Poser fomrat one i bought in 2004 is both fine and the only one available); DSON content, then it's the dsf and dufs in the editor. It is a regular and NECESSARY part of my work flow.

So, no trust of continued access to encrypted content; arranging and accessing my content my way through HD folder structure (as all the large number of GB of content I've bought since 2004 is arranged and accessed); requirement to read and edit the dufs and dsfs of content to get the use I want out of the content. Three reasons I won't touch the encrypted content. And each is a sifficient reason alone. DAZ addressing two out of the three wins no cigar. I WILL NOT  BUY CONTENT WHERE I CAN'T GET THE DATA FILES INTO A TEXT EDITOR. I'm doing it all the time; I was doing it last night, I'll be doing it again later today. I HAVE to be able to do it for the content to have the uses which are the only reason I buy it.

Now, clearly DAZ cannot actually address this problem and retain encryption while letting me read, examine and edit the duf and dsf files. So the bottom line is simple. I will not buy encrypted content. I will not download freebie encrypted content (other than by mistake, which I have done once, and did ask for the 'purcase' to be cancelled out pof principle). And that's it. Make all content encrypted from today and i just won't buy anything ever again ... like I said, I CAN do these 5 stories without anything new: buying nicer, better versions of things I need would be good, but isn't necessary.

That's the practicality. There is also the little matter of the principle I mentioned in passing. And in principle I wll not install a DS that includes encryption/DRM. So I'm still using 4.8. And I will go on using 4.8 until/unless there's a leter version without DAZ Connect (or with a 'Connect-Lite' that does the downloading/updating/installing, but only of unencrypted content and which doesn't contain the encryption/DRM code), whether that is because you've dropped the encryption, or you just give a choice of versions of DS (with encryption, and without) available. And, no, installing 4.9-with-Connect and just nto using Connect is not acceptable to me. Like I said - matter of principle. If I never uipgrade DS past 4.8, so be it.

Nevermind. I figured it out, and it was a meatware issue. It looks like my issue was actually with the Fit Control resource, and probably not exporting it properly as a new morph. Testing will continue.

  • File Size after Morphs

    Hi,

So in a recent sale, I picked up the morph resources from Handspane and Thorne. I've been finding them quite enjoyable to work with. I'm doing some testing and tuning on the side, but it seems like using a significant number of the morphs is maybe causing my character file size (the dufs) to be significantly larger. Roughly speaking, most of the models I've made are about 5-10MB, and the ones where I've added the morphs are closer to 50-100MB.

I checked the file list and I didn't see any documentation on the morphs, specifically if there's a step I'm supposed to do to "compress" all the morphs so that it's more seamless? Or is this just something I should expect?

OR: is it something else entirely that I'm not properly counting? I've seen it on 4 different models I've made, each using different textures which I believe I've used before and not had this problem.

    Thanks!

  • GENESIS 3 Iray Smart Converter And Advanced Managers (Commercial)

Convert, and/or customize and/or optimize in the blink of an eye ANY Genesis 3 figure for great Iray renders with this all in one smart converter and skin management tools.

Efficient, organized, simple, easy to use! Iray Smart Converter requires Daz Studio 4.8.0.59 or any version above 4.8.0.59.

Everything was conceived to achieve great skin renders and make your workflow more simple, more fluent and more comfortable.

In this product you will find one converter, which applies a new material to Genesis 3, as well as skin optimization tools. Organized folders by folders, sorted in order to have the most logical or efficient workflow, the optimization tools will allow you to adjust step by step all the key properties of skin rendering.

These optimization tools are provided in two formats in order to adapt both to beginners and advanced or professional users. For each key properties of skin rendering, you will find either smart presets - for beginners - and a friendly user interface gathering in a few buttons and dials all you need for the aspect of skin you want to customize. As user interfaces you will find :

    • Base color Manager
    • Gloss Initializer
    • Gloss Manager
    • Translucency Manager
    • Bump Manager
    • Geograft Transfer Tools

These advanced managers open an interface providing an immediate control over the group of surfaces you want to customize. You can choose via a dropdown menu at the top of each interface to work separately and/or successively on full skin, lips and nails, or skin and lips without nails, or skin only (without lips and nails), or lips only, on nails only, without leaving the interface. Each advanced interface provides to you the required dials for the given aspect you want to adjust on skin (base color, glossy look, translucency, bump...) with a real time preview of your changes using Iray preview mode. You can adjust properties settings on any surface group you want as many times as you want until you reach the effect you expected.

No more repetitive surface selection! No more long browsing of surface properties by properties to find the ones you need! Just select the figure, launch the script, and all the job is done for you. Changing skins properties has never beed that easy, efficiency and pleasant!

More in details, what can you do with Iray converter and managers?

    1. Simply select Genesis 3 :

    - either you want to change for a new Iray Base shader, or convert it to Iray, and open the converter which applies optimized Iray settings for the type of skin you work on,

    - or if your figure is already using an Iray Uber shader based on PBR Metallicity/Roughness, and you just want to optimize it for your render, and then go to the smart management tools.

    2. If you decide to use the converter : the conversion script opens a window allowing you to choose between various settings :

    - Precise if you start from a Clear (Caucasian) or Dark (African) initial skin (the conversion will not be the same)

    - For Clear Skins, and if your figure was already Iray Uber : Decide if you prefer to keep existing translucency maps, or use base color maps instead.

    - For Clear Skins, decide if you want a more cold or more warm final skin tone. (better use cold with Daz Studio 4.8)

    - For Dark Skins, you can force the base mixing to scatter transmit  if you want to in order to reach even more dark skins.

    - Both for Caucasian or African skin types you will be proposed you three presets, depending on the way you want to handle the gloss. An information window will detail the behavior of each preset.

    -  An automatic detection of Daz Studio version will adapt the settings to take into account the recent scattering update of the Iray render engine when necessary.

In the converter, you can test all the options and presets without closing the conversion window, but if you want to go fast, let the options as provided by default for Clear Skins and just choose Dark Skins for Dark Skins.

    3. Optimize or Customize the skins.

You can use the many presets (constant or proportional to current settings), or use the smart manager. You will find Smart Presets for Base Color, Gloss Initialisation, Gloss Optimization, Translucency (Types, Colors, Strengths). Included are smart proportional presets for gloss which will increase and deacrese global gloss or key settings of them proportionally to their current values. Or you can use the Managers, which are pop up windows for practical skin groups pre-selection selections and direct access to key parameters of the key properties you work on. You will find Managers for Skin Tone (Base Color, Translucency Managers), and for Glossy look Management (Gloss initialization, Gloss Management, Bumps and Normal Map Managers)

You will finally, as a bonus find a transfer tool manager in order to be able to copy the skin settings of a figure to any geograft figure in the scene, including but not limited to "Genitalia", elements.

With Iray Smart Converter And Advanced Skin Managers For Genesis 3, you have two possibilities in one. You can simply apply the Iray converter to a figure and render, or you can use only the skin management tools to optimize and customize any of your existing figure whose skin is already based on any Iray Uber PBR Metallicity Roughness shader. And of course you can do both!

Whether you want to improve your Iray renders of Genesis 3 figures, or if you simply want to make the skin customization workflow pleasant and efficient, I hope you will find your solution here!

    03/17/2016 : Currently updating :

    - the names of the converter and the managers will begin by G3 instead of G2 in order to avoid any possible confusion (in the meantime, Genesis 3 is anyway written in blue on the thumbs and tips).

    - the value of the SSS amount for dark skins was limited to 1 on the "dark skin" settings, while the rest of the body was set to 1.08. The update in the script is written, and soon gonna be submitted. In the meantime, please, once conversion is done using the "Dark Skin" Option, remove the SSS limit on the arms by left clicking on the wheel left of this dial, choosing "parameters settings", and unchecking "use limits", and set arms SSS amount to 1.08. Sorry about that....

  • FAQ Runtime DNA customers coming to Daz

The main point is that neither Daz 3D nor RDNA hold ownership of all of the products sold by RDNA, most of the rights are held by the vendor unless stated otherwise. If the vendor chooses not to migrate there products or if Daz chooses not to add it to their library. Then Daz would be under no legal obligation to provide you continued access to the files nor would RDNA as they have spelled out in their terms. And Daz may even be in legal breach if they did against the vendors consent choose to transfer them to the Daz servers for your download convenience without agreement from the rights holder.

Again this is just my opinion and not legal advice.

There is no way at this point Daz could say what or which content will or won't be made available for later download. But I'm sure they will endeavor to make as much of it available as possible.

OK, let me post this question to you, which is PURELY HYPOTHETICAL. I have several purchased items of your through this store here at daz. If you chose for some reason to no longer sell here, do I not still have a right to download and use items that I have purchased? If that is the case, should not everyone who has purchased these items due a refund since we no longer have access to a purchased item? And before you say its not the same, this is exactly the same. We have all purchased items with the resonable expectations that we will have continued access to these items. It would be the same as buying a car and then being told that we can look at it but not drive it.

I'd recommend you put in a support ticket with the question. That way, it will not get lost in all the posts, and CS will be aware that there are these specific concerns. I don't expect any quick answers - like in a day or two - but there will be one maybe by the end of next week or something like that.

We have all purchased items with the resonable expectations that we will have continued access to these items. It would be the same as buying a car and then being told that we can look at it but not drive it.

  • The Genesis 1 people have the most useful clothes

Yeah, modest clothing for Kids is needed, and by modest, I don't mean a rollback to 1922.

I loved this outfit, because I can acutally see a kid wearing this, without it being cheesy.

Unfortunatly items like this are so super rare it's disheartning for artists like myself who are forced to deal with the left overs of slutwear, to find something cute enough to pass as believable, without being offencive to my veiwers. A lot of my renders, are trick photogrophy to hid how slutty the outfit acutaly is...

    I.E http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/104603

Even my avatar, the shirt she is wearing, the bottom half is a belly shirt, fishnet... While it's harmless, it can also be taken the wrong way. lol

The point I am trying to make isnt that I want to end skimpwear. I'm not going to lie, I make adult orentated renders myself once in a while, but it by far, not the only thing I have an interest in. Some diverity in gender, age groups, and genre is servely needed. I wanted to make a cute render of Skyler and her brother, but instead we got a rehashed version of skyler called Rayn... Another female... There isnt even 1 kid boy for G2M... Not one... Think about that for a second. Not... One.. Single... Male, boy... Nor clothing to fit one. I had to literally create my own skin mats and morph from scratch, to make this render. http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/100625/

While it was fun and challenging, it also awoke me to the realization that the content creaters @ Daz are overly in favor of 25 year old females, in sexy outfits, and make virtually nothing else...

I wanted to make some old folk, around 55... The only thing I have is HD morphs, but all my skins are that of 22yo girls.. that don't click. Nor does it look natural to put her in an outfit meant for a 22 year old super model. I was happy to find meemoo http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-memoo-hd

But how many aged women are there? Just this one? Where is the G2M version? What she never got merried? lol... This is what I mean folks... It's just WAY too narrow minded.

This is sad folks... Sad indeed.

To any content creaters who read this. I'm not trying to be mean, by any means. I'm trying to get you to realise, your creating a very small circle of possability... And that is not what "Art" is supposed to be about. Art is supposed to be about being open minded. However, the path ya'll are taking is beyond close minded... It's gotten rediculously narrow minded... to the point where your are upsetting your customers. If you care about your sells... I would recommend mixing it up a bit.
