  • point DAZ to new/changed file location of asset?
Haven't found anything outside the stuff that goes in the Programs, or programs(x86) folders that can't be moved, as long as i change references in related files.

And that's exactly what I meant — if you're moving a file that means you have to change a file reference, that file is one that isn't (or shouldn't be) visible in your content in D|S anyway. Usually it's a texture file, or Poser morph data, or Poser geometry mesh. You shouldn't ever need to move these files, precisely because they're "invisible", and it doesn't matter how untidy-looking the folder structure is, D|S always knows where to find them. You don't need to know.

The files it is safe to move, generally (there are exceptions) are the D|S-format ones in your content location, outside of the Runtime and Data folders. Also the Poser-format ones inside your Runtime Library folder, but only in the subfolders that are visible in your D|S content tabs. Anything else is usually a Poser morph data file.

It is perfectly safe to move files around, if you know what you're doing. If you need to change file references afterwards, you're probably doing it the wrong way.

  • Need Free Hair for Genesis 2 Female

The first post in that thread I linked is the hair conversion...

It's best to step through the generartions...convert it first to Genesis, then after simply fit it to the later generations, in order  so you would convert a Victoria 4 hair to Genesis then save it.  Then use the transfer utility (sometimes Autofit will work fine...just try it) to move to Genesis 2.

    Hi again mcj1016,

I missed your response. I guess we were both posting at the same time. Anyway, thanks for that additional tip!

  • DAZ Studio 4.9 Pro, General Release, Now Available!

My DAZ Connect downloaded content is not showing in the normal Content Library. I am trying to figure out how to tell DAZ Studio where to find it, but have come up with nothing thus far. There are files that cannot be accessed using the Smart Content. Morph INJ/REM files do not show in the Smart Content pane. For Millennium figures I need those files in order to inject the character morphs I wish to use.

So I am asking how do I get the Content from DAZ Connect to show in the normal Content Library?

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/72724/how-to-make-connect-installed-content-show-in-content-library-tab

Oh, oh. This looks to me like a big mess. It should not be necessary to analyze a program as if I were a writer of computer code or a technical support specialist. Good luck and my admiration to those who are. But I'm going to wait until these these things are fixed and downloading and installing the new version are all that are necesary.

  • Removing Vicky 7:s navel?

With V7 set and the navel morph zeroed there's no real navel shape if you look at smooth shaded view. However, most textures have some shadow painted into the navel area (or not cloned out of the photo references) so in textured views and renders the area will still show unless you edit the torso maps.

  • Install Studio 4.9 on Mac, get error: "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established."

Imac / El Capitan - A reinstall PostgresSQL CMS through DIM didn't help. Smart Content works.

Oops! Another difficulty. I've found that the Mac versions of D|S often take longer to get fixed than the Windows ones do. I think that's due to D|S being written on Windows, and then "translators" being used to morph the app into the Mac version. (At least, I think that's what's happening.)

I think I should wait awhile, until D|S starts working well on the Mac, at least in El Capitan.

  • How to make Connect installed content show in Content library tab

Thank you barbult, now it makes alot more sense to me, that really helped,  I appreciate that you took the time to do that. I don't have alot installed yet especially things like amazing skins, shapeshift, or shaders but I assume these would show up also if they were compatible with the item you had selected in the scene, like an outfit and you wanted to use PD Iray shaders on it? I have to say the more I am playing around in the smart content and seeing how its working I think I will start liking it more and more.

Morphs, like those in the Shape Shift product, won't show up in Smart Content. (The product will show up to allow you to install it, but the morph files themselves won't show up there.) The morphs don't show up in Content Library either when you look at the product there. The only Shape Shift things you see in either Content Library or Smart Content are Shape presets to zero out Shape Shift morphs. The morphs themselves are "not user facing files". You find morphs in the Parameters pane under Actor usually.

Shaders will be found in Smart Content. You need to go to the Surfaces pane first and select the surface(s) that you want to apply a shader to. If the shader files have good metadata, you will find them in the appropriate subcategory, like Shaders>Iray>Fabric. But I find it much easier to use PD Iray Shader Kit 1 (one of my favorite products!) from the Content Library Products listing. The problem with using Shaders from Smart Content is that too many get jumbled together in generic categories like "fabric" and "metal", and many Shaders have very poor metadata, putting them in incorrect categories. PD Iray Shader Kit 1 is one of those without very good metadata, unfortunately.

Smart Content really shines in finding Material files for props, figures, and wardrobe items. When metadata is good, you find all appropriate materials without having to remember the names of the products that contain them. You will find textures you forgot you even had! When metadata is bad, things will be missing.

Explore the right click options in Smart Content, too. Just snoop around. There are so many features in 4.9 Smart Content.

I find it rather annoying that metadata wasn't done properly before connect was released as it obviously depends on the metadata.  I think every product should have had correct metadata before being released as it would be so much easier to find the products instead of them being shoved into the lost and found category. It's no wonder so many seem confused using the smart content and would prefer to use content library or their own setup. Barbult are you using the beta of 4.9 or the release?  I am using the release as beta wasn't an option in DIM or I couldn't find it for some reason, so I am hoping it gets a new release soon with soome new updates to fix a few things.

I'm using Beta 4.9.1.30. It has many fixes over the release. In DIM, look at your download filters and make sure you have Public Beta checked. That should give you access to the Beta. And I totally agree about the missing/bad metadata!!

  • Is geometry editor supposed to work this way?

Ok, i just tested the method you used, and while the copy is  not effected by morph dials, surface textures changes, or anything else tested, if you do change the polys, hide, delete etc, on the original, the copy changes as well.

Other than the multiple item load and edit method, i can't see any other way to achieve what you are going for.

  • DMC Mimic Live

Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

From what i can tell in research, unless the character has the requisite morph dials, visemes, you're pretty much out of luck using mimic and lip sync anyway.

I think you're going to need to make your own morph dials to get it to work.

    Best of luck.

I just grumbled about the caruncle lacrima or general about the inner eye "edge" shape.. and i saw that you had a way more realistic morph/shape posted .. is that custom modeling or from a morph product?

  • Fiddling with Iray skin settings...

    Kaboom
The Gensis 3 Eye has some weak and some confusing points...
    1. The outerlayer is Moisture!
    2. The cornea (mesh and morph) has a wrong shape -> i work since two weaks whenever i have time to make it right.. but with so less polygons it is a beast!
    3. if you use the iris morph and maybe other eye product morphs... the cornea can get complete messed up.
so.. the best what you can do for correct reflections and refraction is to turn off moisture (opacity).... and remove the limit of the cornea bulb morph (100%)...  the morph comes closest to the real shape of a cornea with 200 - 210%...
Use the eye and iris in the standard scale (no morphs also not the iris correction morph) use the cornea morph with 200% and -> set your sclera material to use more translucency and sss... and it should look way better.
And something which has also a weak shape .. the caruncle lacrima and eye lids there .. looks so wrong .. smiley...

  • Removing Vicky 7:s navel?

Here's a screenshot showing where the morph Richard mentioned is. However, turning it down to zero doesn't completely remove the navel, and turning off limits doesn't really help. Past a certain point (with limits off) it just creates some weird distortion of the mesh. I did a search in the morphs, and there doesn't seem to be a navel gone morph in any of the morphs I've bought. I played around with different combinations of the existing navel morphs, and couldn't get rid of the navel. A custom morph might be needed to accomplish that.

Here is a pic of my own real Acer Palmatum purpurea and Palmatum dissectum from a few years ago. Need to rake some better shots with my Canon as these were taken on a crappy instant.

Hehe, the dissectum would be a nice morph to add to the original, but to get that fluff right... I want to try and fit the foliage to a smaller tree or bush from my woods to get the effect of the purpurea (yes you can move that around separately)

  • Victoria 4.2 to Victoria 3 how does that work?

Using the V4.2 to V3 figure:
You get the basic V3 body shape with the V4 head, you can use V4 head morphs to change the face but neither V4 nor V3 body morphs.
Workaround: If you have Morphing Clothes by Dimension3d, you can transfer V3’s morphs into the V4-V3 figure.
You would treat V4toV3 as a clothing and transfer V3 morphs to her and save as a new cr2.

Where do I find Morphing Clother by Dimesion3d from?

Necermind I found it but I don't know if it well work on Mac OSX  10.10

I think in 2011 I was still learning how to conform clothing.

I will need something like this for my planned animation project. Not the small ones I'm doing for practice. The real one.  I've looked for hours and nothing. I tonwder, since the set says its a wave prop, if I could morph them the way I want using deformers.

  • Carrara Challenge #23: “Fire And Water” - WIP Thread

Great penguin character.  That is going t be a fantastic scene when completed.

My first entry is still going to be a river valley with buildings burning upstream.  However, I started fresh.  I used photoshop to create the basic heightmap of a valley surrounded by hills.  I then used layers to create a river in black on a white background (and a third map with white inverted).  The idea is to use the ability of Carrara to load more than one heightmap to create the river.  I inserted a terrain object and loaded the base map,  I used the modeler's options to increase the terrain scale rather than using the scale tool.  I then loaded the second heightmap with the river in black.  This raised the terrain everywhere except where I wanted the river.  I then used an erosion filter to apply rain (just 1 or 2%) and wind (also very low) for my personal preference.  I then duplicated the terrain.  On the second terrain, I deleted the river map.  Then I raised this second terrain, which only affects the river channel.  I applied a water shader to the second terrain, which only appears in the river channel.

I am still assembling the scene, but I am pleased with these initial results for the river.  If anyone wants to use this technique, just make sure in your editing program that you don't have an upward sloping river.   Still working out the rest of the scene.  The burning town needs some larger buildings (town hall, temple, military tower,...).

EDIT:  Many people might prefer to transfer a Bryce terrain to Carrara, which Cripeman explains here.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b9c4CW2c18

  • Growing Up Skin Merchant Resource for Genesis 3 Female and Male [Commercial]

When I get to Skin Builder, All those added elements will be compatible with this skin set

I'm looking forward to this product although I'm a little worried that it might appear at Merchant Resource prices (usually too rich for my pocket until they appear in sales a year later). Having said that, I also want to appeal for something else I would like to see and purchase and can think of no better candidates than Zev0 and Raiya to produce them.

Please can we have some realistic and detailed older skins. Most of the young ladies in the store are glamour model clones with almost flawless, wrinkle-free skins and most of the people I see in real life are far from that ideal. Middle age and older characters are needed, please. I'm sure the Growing Up set will be wonderful and I'm sure that you can come up with a just as wonderful Growing Old set?

Well there is two ways I plan to approach this. 1. will be aging details for the new skinbuilder whenever that gets done, and 2. A new dynamic wrinkle system that activates and react to skin movement which is part of aging morph 3 which will be morph based.

Seriously, get back to the salt mines and get busy. :p

He is; can't you hear him working hard in the background as he uses DragonDictate to post the messages on the forum?
