  • Bend Control for Genesis 3 Females and Males (Commercial)

Excellent work on this Zev0, as usual - but really even better than I was expecting (I was anticipating needing another morph set from somewhere else to complete the look I needed, but Bend Control is so good that it won't be necessary anymore). Bought it as soon as it came out. Thanks!

Now just counting down the days to Glute Control 3 wink. Wallet on standby!

  • Transfer Expressions using GenX2

Never done it myself, but someone in the GenX-Discussion did: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/566327/#Comment_566327

There seems to be no difference between Expressions and character morphs. Load V4 into your scene and apply the expression. Then go to the GenX Tab and follow theses steps:

    1. Select V4 via the Source Button
    2. Mode needs to be Create Single Morph
    3. Target needs to be Genesis 2 Female
    4. Go to the Select Button and choose the Option Get Values from Figure in Scene
    5. Again via the Select Button choose Transfer: On For All Non Zero Values
    6. Click on the Transfer Button
    7. There should be a dialouge poping up, type in the name of the expression. Pay attention to the Icon-Option, maybe you have to browse to an image. ( And probably the best thing, take a look at the screenshots in the GenX Discussion what more informations are necessary? )
    8. Click on Accept
    9. When the Transfer is finished, go to the Select Button and choose the Option Set All Values to Zero

After you did the first expression, reload Genesis 2 Female and check if you are pleased with the transfer result. If you are pleased with it, apply the next expression to the V4 Figure in your scene. Then proceed with Step 4 afterwards.

She's a lovely, distinctive character. I've been playing with my new toys, so here is a  quick render of her converted to Genesis 3 and Iray using Cayman Studios Legacy UVs, Darkhound1's morph converter and V3Digitimes Generation 4 Iray skin settings.

It can't convert fc files because those are morphs, not poses. GenX can do that.

    Hi diogenese19348 ,

Sorry for digin up a 10 month old thread, but I am wanting to find out how to use GenX to transfer expressions. I have completed the transfer, but the created files don't work. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

    Cheers, Glenn

  • GenX2 and Genesis 2 AddOn released! [Commercial]

Connect is currently not supported by GenX2, because the files are located outside of the content folders accessible from plugins. So, GenX2 won't find the geometry and morph files. The upcoming update to GenX2 will work with content located in the Connect section. For the moment, you have to install Genesis by DIM in a content library folder, or you have to add the Connect folder(s) for the Genesis figure(s) each explicitly as content directories in the Content Directory Manager.

And I'm fixed. All cloud connect versions of the base figures had to be unistalled and then reinstalled using the DIM into my Daz Library. Now I can select everything again.

Note to anyone else having this issue: you have to make sure to go into the connect cloud folder and completely delete the base fgiures folders listed by product number too. Otherwise you'll get a duplicate formula error.

If you add the Daz Connect location as a DS-format content folder, does it work?

No its doesn't GenX completely ignores the cloud folder in its search. I had even tried browsing to the file, its confused because it wants a folder named runtime which cloud base doesn't have just product files.

  • Carrara 8.5 and Genesis - Please Help!

If it's of any help, I just installed the 2 latest stable builds (not beta) for both Carrara and DAZ Studio. So with the 2 fresh installs all that I was missing was the installation of the latest Postgres as well. After installing it I ran Studio -just to make sure the error message about Postgres not being connected stopped appearing.  I also deleted my content folder links from within Carrara (Content Tab, Select Folder, open menu in tab's top right corner and click on "Remove Folder") and added them anew after I installed Postgres.

Did you use any version of Daz Studio before 4.9 on that Windows installation? If you did then you probably still have the old format database entries. I think my problem is because I deleted the database and the new database has only had 4.9 accessing it which only uses the new tables.

If you have DIM installed you can use it to populate the database -- DIM uses the DS4.8 format database.

Do I have to actually download the content or can I tell DIM to just update the database? I don't normally use DIM so it has never installed most of my content.

No, unfortunately, though if you have the products downloaded as zips (as opposed to installers) you wouldn't have to download them again, but DIM only gives the option to re-import metadata for products it installed (or thinks it installed).

Thank you for the info. I think I'll try installing the Morph packs, the main characters and then any character with custom morphs as I need them. I'll need to be selective, the amount of stuff I've bought would use up my acceptable use download limit several times over.

  • Best practices? using genesis and genesis 2 content in Carrara

I want to highlight this for new installs and upgrades to Carrara 8.5.

If you have just installed Carrara 8.5 for the first time, as 3DAge points out above, make sure that the "Postgres" database services are running if you wish to use Genesis or Genesis 2 figures.  Otherwise, Carrara will not find the morph packs that you have for those figures.  I believe this only has to be done once.

I had thought that the "Postgres" database started when Carrara did. Perhaps I'll have to check for morphs.

Vhardamis: Why can't you select a target or transfer type? Are the fields missing, empty, or grayed?

Lindsey: I will have a look at it ...

They arent greyed out but they can't be clicked on either at all. The drop down boxes don't function. I used to be able to click the target field and my options would show in the drop down. On the transfer button I used to have options for all, off, only 0, etc. Now if i try to select anything it fires off instead trying to transfer non existent stuff.

I'm running on 4.9 CONNECT version. I've uninstalled and installed twice (once through connect, once through DIM).

*edit to add* I lied now it will not install trough the connect, it doesn't even show as an option. I've sent a support ticket in*

The issue is installing Genesis figures and morphs with Daz Connect.  GenX2 won't fine the figures and morphs because each product is installed into indivudual folders by product in Daz Connect Library/Data/Cloud folder.  If you install Genesis Essentials packs and and morphs with DIM, GenX2 will find the Genesis figures and morphs.

I have reinstalled all of my content with Daz Connect where available and when I open GenX2 tab, the genesis figures are greyed out and not selectable... See Pic.

Yeah thats why I made the edit above. The starter essentials were installed via connect Genx itself was DIM. I was confusing myself. So I started over from scratch:

    Loaded the V4 morph (Isolde)

    exported and saved as cr2

now I can't eve load my source, I get the following 2 erros if i try either the source button or the load figure button.

  • GenX2 and Genesis 2 AddOn released! [Commercial]

Is GenX2 available by Connect? I can't find it there and according to the product page, it is only available by DIM or manual installer.

Clicking the transfer button always starts the transfer process. There is a "Select" button just ahead of the transfer button for a menu with the options you named.

I made a fresh install of GenX2 on my system using DIM, it works like it should. Target shows Genesis 1 only when I click, because no add-ons are installed, but I can click it. I tried for DS 4.9.1.30 Windows 8.1 64, GenX2 is version 2.0.2.0 under "About installed plugins". If you use it on another system, let me know, so I can test.

Can you do a screenshot of the GenX2 tab (after loading the source figure), maybe this gives me an idea what might be wrong.

  • DNA Galadia for Victoria 3 for P4/P5/P6; V3sr2 compatilbility?

Does anybody know if DNA Galadia for Victoria 3 for P4/P5/P6 ( http://www.daz3d.com/dna-galadia-for-victoria-3-for-p4-p5-p6 ) is compatible with both DAZ Studio 4.8 and V3 service release 2?  I found this very old RDNA forum link that suggested it might only work with V3 service release 1, but that was WAAAAAAy back in 2001 and there may have been some followup that didn't make it into the thread.  http://forum.runtimedna.com/showthread.php?10671-Galadia-Face-Morph-V3-SR2

Hoping somebody might know or have at least an educated guess.  Thanks!

  • Bend Control for Genesis 3 Females and Males (Commercial)

Just bend shins slightly while Leg bend controller is on, and up the values on both legs. It will now remember that strength in relation to that bend value. Oh I forgot if you use the zero presets, it removes any manual work you did. eg morph strength editing.

possible to use the calves bend morphs without the leg bend controller ? I have recognized that I can use the full range of all morphs manually just if the leg bend controller is higher than zero, so also at 0.1. the thing is that I like the idea of an automatically bend control for the legs but to have good results on the calves for example I have to raise the leg bend control so high that the thigh morphs collide with some of the morphs of your shaping product for g3f (thighs apart or thigh outher morph or thigh thickness morphs for example) or I raise the value for leg bend control just to 0.1 and do all manually, but this well is not the idea of an automatic. As written before my character is not one of these slim and skinny ones.

The morphs are designed to unlock only while the bend controller is active. You can manually unlock and unlink it as well where it will then behave as a standard morph not dependant on the controller. Too be honest it is actually better just to set the bend controller at a low value such as 0.1, that way the morph links stay intact. The result will be essentually the same since you are setting it's strength manually anyways.

that I have done smiley and maybe I can use some of the morphs for manually use. The problem I have is that I need some third party morphs but in combination with your product I get some unwanted results (not really bad results but not perfect enough for me sad maybe I am a bit to petty-minded)

  • Considering buying if it's not been abandoned

There's justified negativity and then there's FUD that gets spread around. There tends to be a lot a lot of opinions that are based on speculation with no facts to back them up, but presented as "facts."

Then there are also those like me that would encourage you to get Carrara, because the larger customer base will maybe encourage more Carrara development. For my part, I do believe Carrara is being worked on (slowly, based on the statements by DS staff you alluded to), to add Genesis 3 support, but there are some major hurdles to work on.

Yes there are bugs, but nothing I have found to be show-stoppers. Before I lost access to a computer modern enough to use Carrara 8.5, I found it ran great. I have since had to drop back down to Carrara 7.2 Pro, and it has always been rock solid for me, except the occasional "zombie mode" bug when I get too crazy going back and forth between the Assembly room and Texture room. I didn't have that issue in C8.5. My current rig is a PPC G5, and the other computer was an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.

I have tried to use Studio and Poser, and you can do some nice things with them, but it they are hamstrung by the need for plugins and purchased products. Then there are things they just plainly can't do. To me, that is the showstopper. As long as Carrara functions, that is what I will use, and I will look to other full featured 3D graphics software (just in case). I do use purchased content, but most of my scenes have items I create in Carrara or have things in them that can't be done in Studio. If there comes a time due to hardware and OS upgrades that Carrara no longer functions, then DAZ will lose a customer. Not out of spite, but because I refuse to be locked into that Studio mindset and ecosystem.

The Studio mindset I refer to, you mentioned above, "I need this asset or that asset and I can't find it in the store!" For complex models, such as human figures, I look at it as, why re-invent the wheel, but if I need a coffee mug or a hammer in a particular style I can make it and not rely on some hardware or kitchen set that is sold to get close enough.

I recently needed a 'toon Llama and looked at it as, why re-invent the wheel? As time for my project was limited, I went to the DAZ store, Renderosity store, etc. looking for a 'toon Llama and then a more realistic Llama when the 'toon search was a bust. The only option I had was a morph based on the Genesis horse. That wouldn't work (both for expense and because I'm using C7.2). So I looked at a couple threads here and followed some box modeling tutorials, and in a few days I had box modeled, rigged and textured, a 'toon Llama. All from within Carrara. I used the 3D paint tool to paint the Llama, Carrara's VM to model it, I used the Animation Group function to create an NLA track which allowed me to save the animations I created as NLA clips and use them in the NLA track for looping walk cycles and such. The only things you could conceivably do in Studio would be to rig the model and (only with a plugin) would be to create your own aniblocks, which are similar to the NLA clips I mentioned above.

BTW, the cell shaded look is a scene filter that comes with Carrara. I don't know if Studio has one built in or if it needs a plugin.

  • Star Trek Builders Unite 7: The Continuing Mission

Yes it was. Mirror Rand- and Mirror Jan appear in a prose story I wrote for a Trek United Fanzine:

    http://mdbruffy.deviantart.com/art/Quadrant-to-Quadrant-and-Person-to-Person-2-423156080

Fair warning. The book contains adult situations you won't find on TV or in the movies.

I think I was first to use Bluto's security armour in my Nova Trek story "An Empire to Build":

    http://mdbruffy.deviantart.com/art/NT10-An-Empire-to-Build-459860655

Security guards are scattered throughout the story.

I've managed to knock up male and female version of the TMP uniforms just fine using V4 Courageous and fiddle with the phaser to produce some basic poses.  I will most likely just paste the real actors's heads on the images and do long distance shots in any event and hope it doesn't look terrible.  I have a couple of beginner's queries though:

    1.  I've downloaded Bluto's TMP security outfit but I'm getting an error message requesting a pathway to a .pmd file.  Is that because I need M4 valiant to use the morph on?

The V3 morphs look good.  However, I've now purchased the M4 Valiant and I'm still getting the .pmd file error on the security armour.  Any thoughts?  Should I ask Bluto direct?

Alternatively, if anybody has any screenshots of male and female securiry guards in action poses I could just steal those instead.  :)

That was awesome!  Some nice fight shots of security guards.  You're very skilled.  Also noted some Mirror Rand shots in your back catalogue.  I do love Rand.  That was a missed opportunity and then some.
