I have the same issue with Genesis right "out of the box" - meaning straight up Genesis female with zero morphs.

Yep that's how I understood you but I had a freebie morph set for Genesis that applied one morph by default when I loaded a fresh Genesis and you have said elsewhere that you've downloaded a number of freebies so if you haven't already then there is no harm in checking Currently Used next time you load Genesis. It may well not be the problem but at least you've eliminated one possibility.

Thanks for the info/replies about Cookie Dough. I purchased it a couple of hours ago and had a look at it, but I haven't rendered anything yet (I'm kind of uninspired at the moment :( ).

Load her and play with dials? Just for the fun of it ...
I bet you will come up with a nice morph - and even if you don't have any other characters, the Cookie base has a lot of skin tones to play with.

    Jaki: LOL - no, I don't think I am a witch.
I  just have a good memory and PDSmith gave me the filenames of the original files - which have the funny zly in their name and that jogged my memory of Zilvergrafix files.

Rune is a great morph to add to the library. I'd say her height is about the same issues surrounding male vs female outfits and skimpwear vs practical wear. In the end you go with what sells. At least DS gives us height and scaling options. I end up buying all of Daz'z base figures because I've never been dissapointed after giving any of them a chance on the render front. This is worth it for me just for the discount on the male counterpart. Seeing the figure comparison render posted earlier highlights how varied the different base figure morphs really are. I'd like to see that comparison with all the figures in the same pose and wearing the same hair and outfit (angelreaper?). :)

just doing a render for you of all the base g3f except for girl7 don't have her, then I'll do one of just the ladies in the rune7 pro bundle with same pose hair and bikini maybe it was the different poses but it did look like the three of them were different heights in that one lexi looked slightly taller than rune but that maybe the hair too but isa looks a lot taller and she's leaning over. may take awhile though lot of characters in first pic and have to go to work soon. they're all in same pose hair and bikini, no lights or makeup just the iray legacy maps

She does look good. Nice render Ice Dragon. I reckon this morph is going to be pretty versatile. That hair suits too. Is it the same one used in the Blood Red Promo (only blonde)?

  • Texturing with DestinysGarden

    FYI...

It's true that you can download textures for Filter Forge. But you can also buy the whole set. Everything that was available when each version of Filter Forge came out. If you buy the entire library, then you probably also want to buy the Librain. I bought just the texture set originally and then I loaded all the textures. Filter Forge would error out when I tried to open it. I had to add the textures in smaller groups. Tech support said "Do you reely need to load ALL those textures. There are probably many of them that you will never use. Which is true. But if you have the Librain, you can browse all the textures and then select the ones you want to use and transfer them into Filter Forge.

Why do the heights bother everyone so much? In general, all of the characters and props are built to the same scale so it generally doesn't matter much. Especially since the "real world" is whatever you define in your scene.

FWIW, I'm 5'9" (male) and most of the young women I work with are =/- two inches of my height. By young, I mean recent college graduates. Most of the young men are my height or taller.

Agreed. It's 3D and with a couple of sliders you can make them any size you want.

I am 6'1 and my ex wife was 5'10. (6'2/3 with heels). I used to love the looks I got when we went out to clubs, LOL.

I went ahead and got both the blood red outfit and the fantasy barbarian outfit since both of these totally fit with the kind of images I like to do. Plus knowing that vendors see immediate sales as a sign that the addon is doing well, I wanted to support the vendors towards making MORE outfits like this.

i did pass on Rune since I usually feel addon characters are pretty pointless when I can come close with morph packs myself, but obviously I am in the minority since they keep pumping them out, LOL.

  • How to Fit or Re-fit these items?

After you created your dformer morph, did you find it in the Harness' properties and dial it up? (I believe it becomes named something like dform morph or something like that)

I just move the dformer part

Speaking of that, I ran into my old problem with the dformer - I created a new DFormer on the hip belt but no matter how I move the field around I never see the red/yellow bits that indicate what part I'd be moving and no matter what part of the dformer I move and no matter how far I move it, nothing ever happens to the object. What causes that?

  • New Release: Genesis Generation X2 (upgrade ends soon) [Commercial]

It's annoying how often updates of things appear in DIM, but the ReadMe pages don't get updated with the info on the update for days, sometimes weeks later.

I would like to know if these updates are OK on 4.8, as I'm not updating DS to 4.9. Maybe i should keep backups of the previous installers.

I'd also like to know if, when Genesis 3 support appears, the updated GenX3 will be able to convert morphs from G3F to G3M and vice versa, and especially HD morphs. G2F/M conversions were possible with GenX2 of both SD and HD morphs, but could always be done with Transfer Utility too (or simply by copying the morph dsf and HD morph files and doing a bit of editing in a text editor); But Transfer Utility will not do G3M<>G3F HD morphs, and copying and editing doesn't work either, as for the first time since V2 and M2, the Genesis 3 male and female bases are no longer vertex compatible ao you can't just chuck a morph date file from one into the other anymore. As someone who has had good reason to move many morphs between M2 and the original Stephanie (she being M2's mesh with V2's shape and rig, so vertex compatible mesh whereas V2's wasn't), M3 and V3, D3 and S3, M4 and V4, G2M and G2F (generally morphs from the male figures that are very applicable to women if rendering realistic, active women, but omitted from the female moprh packs because they're not needed by people only doing sexy, fantasy pinup art and not bothered by the needs of realism), lacking the ability to move some HD morphs from G3M to G3F is one of the G3F limitations keeping me using G2F (but not the only one). I'm rather concerned that since everything GenX2 did could be done getting the exact same morph result using Transfer Utility, but with the added convenience when using GenX2  of not having to reset the morph display parameters, dial name, limits etc as is needed when using transfer utility instead, then the updated GenX2 for Genesis 3 may suffer the same limitation as transfer utility of not beiing able to youch HD morphs.

  • Secrets of Poke-Through (Smoothing & Collision Detection)?

Does the G3F under the clothes have Displacement on the skin surfaces? Are you rendering in 3Delight or Iray? If that's the problem, then it isn't a Mesh Smoothing glitch after all, it's the Displacement.

One other possibility, it isn't the Smoothing Iterations parameter on its own you should be tweaking, use the Collision Iterations as well. I've sometimes had to play around a bit until I get values that work, and note that there's no such thing as a One True Value — every combination of clothes and figure morph will be different, and sometimes the pose will have an effect as well.

I checked, this figure didn't have displacement set on any of the skin surfaces.  Thanks for the pointer.

  • Secrets of Poke-Through (Smoothing & Collision Detection)?

Preview is not showing everything. For example, you don't see displacement. A shader can have displacement value which will create "poke" when rendering.

Don't put high value in Smoothing. Smoothing is in fact making the mesh more and more flat until it has no shape anymore. Beyond 8, it's often worse.

A quick (and dirty) way to avoid poke is to add a "push modifer" to your object (the cloth):

Select the object (for example SuperHose cloth), and go to menu Edit / Geometry / Add Push Modifier...

The object will be much "thicker". You go in your parameters panel , you will find a new category "Push Modifier", try a 0.1 value for example. It's often enough to avoid poke, but not too much thick to be weird.

    -

Some cloths are made with a custom morph to "push" their boundaries.

    -

If your character is very "difficult" (a crazy custom shape like for example a Dwarf or a Monster with a scaly skin), you will need to use DFormer or to create a custom morph for the cloth with a tool like ZBrush (it's not that horrible once you have learn the workflow to export, touch and reimport to create a morph).

GREAT trick!  The push modifier worked wonderfully!  Thanks!  smiley

Meh.  Skin might be worth having but the character shape...looks like Gia 7 with the bodybuilder morph cranked up and a dollop of Olympia 7 in the face. I find the angle of the eyes odd.  Also, I'm not one for the pouty, pretty-pretty faces but this is a tad....manly?

Thank you for the reply back!
and of course I have the Genesis 2 version of the converter, I have all the ones you created:)
I will have to try the tip for Geograft transfer for the skin settings and see if that works.
It was good to finally be able to use the previous Gen textures for Genesis 3, but your skin converters have become a go to tool for me.

To be honest, although I love her skin, I wasn't thrilled with her morph, but then I saw this http://www.daz3d.com/alfhild-for-rune-7 and I think she's gorgeous, so it shows she can be morphed into something I like. Just getting the base and a featured new item because it makes all my other DOs from the featured PAs go down. These sales become a crazy game... Will definitely get Freja's character for her when on a better sale! I use DS and Iray primarily for realism and use Poser and Photoshop for fantasy art, so not really interested in DS only fantasy clothes but I'm debating about getting Rhiannon's wonderful fantasy clothes DOs that are at a great price... I am getting things individually at incredible prices, but then buy in bulk and it adds up! I could have an incredible wardrobe for myself rather than my 3D characters, but I keep thinking "I may need this later, better get it while it's so cheap!" Daz's marketing strategy is brilliant in that capacity....

Lordy, me, too.  That's what I keep thinking.  I oughta stop buying 3D stuff and get more real life clothes.  But real life clothes don't let me make pictures. :-)

I wasn't so thrilled w/the Rune 7 morph till I started rendering her.  I don't know if hi detail comes out in the subd or what, but she looks good in my test renders.

So, a new thing: I went in and fiddled with the DFormer and this time it worked perfectly. Pulled that little chunk out of his chest, tested a few poses, everything works fine -- then I deleted the dformer and things went back to the way they were before! So... is that suppossed to happen? I thought it made permanent changes, or is that the... 'create a new morph' thing that Richard Haseltine was talkuing about above?

  • How to Fit or Re-fit these items?

For the male gun belt you could create a morph - you might be able to do it with DForms, or you might need to use an external modelling application and import with Moprh Loader Pro. For the female belt you could adjust the mesh so it was fitting as you wanted on the zeroed figure, hide everything but the gun belt,  export, import and use the Transfer Utility to rig it. Either would involve some mesh manipulation, at least.

Can you point to some decent tutorials on that? Pretty much the only thing I understood in all of that was 'DForm' and I can only get that to work maybe 10% of the time.
