Hair Purchased Elsewhere
Yes, if you enable Show Hidden Properties and look at the figure node for the hair (the one that is the parent to the bones, with the hair's name) you will find the morphs. You can unhide them by right-clicking on the Parameters pane and selecting Edit mode, then click on the first morph, shift-click on the last, right-click and go to Hidden>Unhide Selected Properties.
Ayleth for G3F -- What about the hair? The problem I have is that hair should morph to fit the hat/hood, not the hood to the hair. :(
Is that even possible? The hair has to parent to a character, right? Else I'm thinking on the wrong track.
Hair Purchased ElsewhereGome as in no slider, or gone as in not having an effect? I would not expect any slider to vanish (as long as the moprhs had been injected before the conversion, if the hiar uses injection techniques) but if they were controllers for rigged bones then those would have been lost in the conversion.
Gone as in I can't find the sliders for morphs. The hair autofits from V4 to G3, but I can't find the morphs.
The problem is that the bones between V4 and G3F are different. V4 has a plain Neck bone; G3F has a Neck Upper and a Neck Lower main bone; each of those may also be divided between Neck Upper Bend and Neck Upper Twist, and Neck Lower Bend and Neck Lower Twist. So technically, it's not that the morphs are gone; it's that you have to figure out where they went. They should be associated with one of those four bones, but which one is anyone's guess.
That said, because Autofit doesn't handle that transition well, the morphs themselves will for the most part be dead, wherever you find them. Not necessarily all of them, depending on how many there are, but a fair number. My guess is that a lot of that type of morph depend on a bone simply called "Neck" existing, and it doesn't in G3F.
Ayleth for G3F -- What about the hair?Yeah, the hood fits almost every hair I threw at it.
If you have problems with hats I can suggest the tottally hipster outfit. It has a hat fixer that I now use with all the hats I own. I don't know if there's anything similar out there but I'd really like to know.
Can you describe "hat fixer"?
The problem I have is that hair should morph to fit the hat/hood, not the hood to the hair. :(
How to transfer G3M Maps to G2M Figures- Think of a 3D model and its maps like a present wrapped in gift-wrap
- the wrap is unwrapped then laid flat
- now if you had two presents wrapped using different giftwrap cut a different shape, the pattern on those wraps would lie in different places, maybe you were trying to save giftwrap so cut bits and angled them to fit over gaps.
- what is trying to be done is copy the way one gift wrap looks on the present and reproduce it with another wrap placed on differently, some bits are one piece where the other one was several and they are cut in different places.
- the only way to do this accurately is to have the model itself take on the texture of the gift wrap then apply it to the other gift wrap, this is texture baking and transfer and can be done using applications that support Ptex like Blender, Blacksmith3D, Mari etc.
- it does not create new UV co-ordinates that correspond to the x,y corodinates of the models mesh if it was cut apart and laid out flat to match the giftwrap which is what UV mapping is.
- it just takes the colours at pixel level off one mesh and puts it on another occupying the same tangent space in 3D, that is the models are in the same place the same shape though the actually polygons/faces that make them up may be quite differently arranged, shaped sized etc.
- to do matching UV so a model can use the same maps is much harder.
- one in effect has to take one lot of flattened giftwrap, move it around and cut shape it so it matches the other one and if bits are missing because one used one sheet the other two smaller odd shaped sheets this gets very hard indeed.
- V4, M4, Genesis, G2F and G2M all had the same areas if they were morphed to the same shape matching in where these shading domains, areas mapped lay. Some were cut up but still in the same space,
- G3M and F do not match the others at all, they have different shading domains
- V3 and M3 have the same issue which is why there is as of yet no UV maps to bring them over either, the only way to do this is to use 3Duniverse texture convertor which works like the Ptex function in Blender, Blacksmith3D and Mari etc, taking the colours at pixel level off one map and writing it pixel by pixel onto another using the closeness on the lined up meshes to copy them over
- a texture convertor plugin for G3M and F would be a godsend IMO if 3DU ever made one.
- The product that puts the G2F and M UV on G3M and F is very clever in that it uses geografts to replace the mesh that cannot be matched up.
- it is actually changing the geometry of the figure in effect making a new figure/model
- this could be done the other way but again you will not actually have a genesis 2 male or female but a new mesh using parts of their mesh and geografted new bits in effect making a new figure again, I have no idea how they do this but it is brilliant but still a workaround a frankensteining
- the vendor who made it Cayman Studios might do a version the other way and is probably your best bet
simple method for smoothing multiple collisions? After one item is smoothed, you could export as fbx (if I remember right it saves the smoothed shape where obj won't. I could be wrong and obj will export the smoothed shape as well)
Take the fbx and send it to a modeler like blender or hexagon
re export from there as an obj (you can skip the import/export here if going straight to obj works)
Import the obj into Daz as a morph for the clothing item. You've now freed up the collision for that item as it's set in the new morph
Grasping Objects - HandsNo I made a morph to fix the hand pose. I want to make a morph for the right hand and then the left hand but I want them to be mirror opposites of eachother to keep the symmetry.
Use Morph Loader pro to load your morph twice - when loading it for the other hand, expand the options under the morph name and near the bottom right-click where it says None next to Morph Mirroring and select the x direction you want (Left to Right or Right to Left). This is a new feature so you do need to be using the current build, release or beta.
Hair Purchased ElsewhereWhen fitting older hair products, say V4, toG3, the dials and morph controls seem to be gone. They used to appear in the "neck" section of the hair when I used to use Poser. There are some really cool older hair products that I would like to use but can't due to the morphs.
Are these controls hidden somewhere, or is there a workaround?
Main figure HD Morphs, or, The lost manKalea has an HD morph, so why wouldn't her release partner? He is, quite literally, the only major figure in Generation 7 that doesn't have a main HD morph.
Guy 7 got one but Girl 7 didn't. Kenji 7 has one but Aiko 7 doesn't. Teen Josie 7 and Izabella 7 don't.
I think the HD morphs in the female characters are the reason for a bug I reported to DAZ.

First look at this freebie; Here is the almost final look of my Elena R* morph.(ellen ripley) as usual, it's not a 100 % likeness but close enough :)
I will post a link, as soon as i have finished it up
GenX2 Update / Genesis 3 Add-On [Commercial]Well, compare your morph with the settings in a morph file that is shown in the shaping tab. There must be some difference. May also be missing group or region or something else. Maybe just a misspelling of some keyword.

Set default "Asset save dir" in DS 4.9?I'm working on some morphs and want to make them distributable. To do this, I have to save them in a seperate asset dir, mapped in the database. This works fine.
However, every time I want to save a morph, the save dialog reverts to the main mapped DAZ content folder. I have to select my own manually every time. This wasn't a problem in 4.8, where it remembered the last chosen folder next time I saved.
Is there anything I can do in 4.9 to get it to remember where I want to save my files? Maybe I forgot an option somewhere?
Rigging a clothing item for Genesis 3 - How to reduce or remove the Shrink-Wrap effect? You can either take the clothes with the autro-morph into an editor (across a bridge or via OBJ export) or you can take the plain clothing mesh - whichever you find easiest.
Its time for new Cat and Dog models!Actually, the MilCat still looks pretty good if you can get fur onto it. Either LAMH or Tiny's dynamic Poser hair. Probably Garibaldi as well.
It was a remarkably good figure for its time, and has held up very well. But it's time was something like a dozen years ago, and that's very old tech now. The dog, on the other hand was good for its time as well, but it hasn't held up half as well. Hardly ever looks convincing any more.
Chris Creek's new dog is default labrador, but he's also working on a boxer morph. Plus a separate toy dog base (chiuahua). Plus half a dozen other animals. The biggest problem with his animals seems to be that he's only one person, so they only show up one at a time and the add-on morph characters trickle out months later. Which is kind of unavoidable when the lead modeler is only one person.
...it still has serious distortion issues when trying to do poses cats actually do.
we've had five generations of human as we; as two Dragon and Horse figures since Mil Cat and Dog were released.
Zero my Hero question.Hey, shadowhawk1, one thing I've found is that Zero seems to work well with G2M too! I've been playing a bit with it (on G2F) and found that JoeQuick's done a great job with the material zones so that it can work with multiple designs, not just the Pink Ranger look that it automatically loads up as.
G3F clothes don't transfer to G2M (that I've found; if anyone has a more direct link, please feel free to share), but if you save the G2F file, you can use G2F files to transfer to G2M. Re-conform the suit, gloves, boots, and belt (it took me a few tries because I left DS really confused), then bring over the helmet and scarf separately as props.
The belt looks a bit like a crazy codpiece on G2M, but it could probably be swapped out for a different belt.
OK not sure how to save the files like that, moving over from Poser so there is still a lot I am learning about Studio. Can you direct me to a link? I also want to thank you, your taking the time to answer my questions has sold me on this set.
The easiest way to explain it might be like this:
1) Load up G2F, then conform each of the Zero clothing pieces to the figure. Start with the suit; when DS asks what the original body was, choose G3F and the full body clothing. Then the gloves and the boots. Try the belt if you'd like. The scabbards can be hidden if they start deforming but the belt is pretty nice. The helmet is a prop, so it should parent to whatever figure you want.
2) Save your file. This can be handy later because now you have a G2F base file you can use later. You can also save out the clothing to your Runtime library because now they're ready for any G2F figure. I won't go into that for now.
3) Load up G2M into your file. You should now have a nude G2M and a clothed G2F.
4) Save this file. Maybe as a separate file than your G2F file. (Maybe as your G2M base file?) I recommend this because DS might crash. It happened once or twice when I was doing it and having done the save was a lifesaver.
5) Unconform the G2F clothing from G2F. Don't just change the parent figure to G2M. It doesn't always seem to work well. Under the Parameters tab, change "Conform to..." from G2F to "None". Do this for the suit, gloves and boots.
6) Save the file.
7) Delete G2F.
8) Save the file.
9) Conform each piece of clothing to G2M. Make sure the dialogue box appears that asks what the original figure was for each piece of clothing. This time choose G2F as the original figure. You might have to try conforming the clothing more than once to have it kick in. Or restart DS and reopen the file. (Again, this is all based on my experiences. Your mileage might vary because of the computer and operating system you've got.)
10) Done! Now you have a G2M Zero suit!
You can use these steps for Genesis too.
Oh, for the scarf.... Don't conform the scarf to G2F. DS will apply the G2F heirarchy to the scarf and you'll lose the cool morphs. Instead, treat the scarf as a prop and parent it to the neck.
I hope this helps!
Sounds like it will, thank you very much for this! I bought the suit last night based on what you have said here. Thank you very much for your time in explaining this to me. I didn't know that was possible. Now I will be able to pick up other G3f/m sets and use them for G2f/m. Now if they could fix the autofit for shoes
Its time for new Cat and Dog models! The WiP thread at the other site that doesn't start with an 'R' show early work on a kitten morph to go with the house cat. They look good too.
The problem still being that the lead modeler is only one person. And the way they've managed the releases of their Horse is probably a good indication of how the rest of their animals are going to be emerging. We'll get the base character. There will be a number of basic morphs (bulk, thin, whatever) built in. There may probably be additional packages of add-on morphs or expressions or poses either accompanying it., or fairly soon after.
Then down the road we'll start getting breed morphs, or things like a cub morph, and they'll all be excellent. But they won't be coming out as a bundle. Although down the road they will probably be offered as a stack. But who wants to wait that long? I'll snatch them as they release them.
And one good thing; they support Studio AND Poser. Some of the 3rd-party add-ons may be only good for one or the other, but all the base figures and breeds and whatever which come out under the company's name can be used in either.
Question to HowieFarkes' Country-SetsOk, I see.
But I can't understand why especially these horses are a problem. As I saw this scene only needs 0.5 GB.
At the moment I have a render running exceeding 16 GB cashed on the HDDs. And it renders without any problem. CPU-only of cause. But the small test scene won't.I remember a case longer ago with 3Delght:
There I had a character with the "Bulkman"-morph applied. Each time reaching the character, 3Delight got stuck. After removing that special morph, the render was no problem.Main figure HD Morphs, or, The lost manI rarely buy the HD morphs unless they are deeply discounted, because I feel like I'm paying for the figure twice. Personally I think the HD morph should be included in the pro bundle.
That would be nice, but based on current practice, it might mean that there would be one less item of whatever sort in the pro bundle and the price could be kicked up a bit. There wouldn't be a notable savings overall, likely.
That said, the only HD morphs for this generation I've purchased that weren't deeply discounted are Lee and Ivan. Lee was a planned purchase, more or less, and Ivan was ... irresistable, I guess. He's got incredible level of detail.
I would gladly sacrifice an outfit for a HD morph. I have so many from pro bundles that have never seen the light of a render. But I may be in the minority with that preference. It would motivate me much more towards buying the pro over the base figure or starter bundle. I agree Ivan's HD looks the best so far.
