  • Morph WIP: Christopher Reeve for Genesis

After the latest round of texturing improvements, I decided to tackle another celebrity look-alike morph for Genesis.  The subject this time: the late but great Christopher Reeve.  The following is a first draft, and I'll probably be scrutinizing photos of him for at least a few days as I keep tweaking it.  Feedback is welcome, be it positive or constructively critical.

  • Need help using Transfer Utility

What is it you are trying to accomplish?

I am making clothes in Blender and i want to have Genesis 3 wear them, i.e. conforming clothing. SO when the clothing item I imported to DAZ failed in this way, to eliminate any errors I may have made when creating the clothing, I tried to just have G3 wear a sphere created within DAZ itself. I failed at that also as you can see.

Make sure you exported Genesis 3 as a base to Blender to model your clothing mesh on.

Transfer Utility is transfering the rig/weight to your clothing and even the sphere, (check with posing/animating Genesis3 and see the fitted items move/morph along with ehr). But these items are created without reference to Genesis 3's figure space and scale I suspect?

  • Can you save the FBX with the CLothes attached to the body?

I don't export to Unity but I do export Genesis with clothing to iClone with FBX with no issue.

For your purpose you need to save the clothing morph's auto-follow into FBX: try this: make the morphs into animation keys on the Timeline.

Fit the clothing to your Genesis of choice. Then set a actor/shape morph per key.

    Original = 0 keyframe. Shape A = 2nd keyframe, Shape B = 3rd keyframe etc.

On the clothing item's own Timeline track you should also see the morph dials are triggered (to 50% or 100% etc)

Add a key every clothing morph change with Clothing selected in scene maanger, one key each to Shape A, Shape B etc.

Export FBX, Merge Skeleton. Check Animation and Morphs too.

Hopefully the clothing morphs will follow the character morph into Unity.

  • DAZ Studio 4.9.2 Crashing when opening saved work?

    Hi,

I am using DAZ Pro 4.9.2 64 Bit

I was working with a G3M Base with Spartan Outfit and Boris Hair. I added a Swole 7 morph.

I added a G2F Base with Serpent Hair and Severed Man Neck Cap so I can delete her body and only wanted the head to look dicapitated. I rendered everything in iRay just fine. I have a Windows 10 64 Bit operating system Toshiba Satellite C75D-A AMD A-6 with 16 GB of Ram. My problem is I saved my work as I usually do DUF File. When I restart DAZ and open my work it crashes on me??? I have participation online unchecked and I even turned off my internet connection to see if it was a network problem. It still crashes on me when I go to open my saved scene. Attached is my snap shot of my error. I submitted a support ticket also.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

  • 4x4x4 Lattice deformer in Daz Studio -- pre-release / Beta / Unfinished PC/Win x32 / x64 version av

i strayed away from the bounce script because as always i thought i'd be done with that quickly

creating 'net-fence' fishnets as geometry then as drawn textures

but i'll put that aside and come back to it in fall

    ----

i want to publish the ElasticSim now

then come back to completing mcjNewcastle, because you see, ElasticSim was a stray-away from that project

    -----

another reason for the delay is that i want to make mcjElasticSim universal, as you were suggesting

so you'll be able to attach the simulators to any body part or object

and the simulator's motions will be able to control any property or morph or d-form or rotation or translation of that body-part or figure or of other objects in the scene

that one was done using mcjLagEffect, which is based on delayed action

    april 1st ... ya know

    ---

I hope we can set your 'sim units" to bones other than breasts? And get some dangly springy sort of movement?

Is your elasticity = bone scaling (stretching longer shorter) or just translating (dislocating from previous joint like in snappy fashion)?

Hope I'm not asking stupid questions lol

You must be busy and all but aaaarrrhhh I can't wait to play with this one!!!  laughcheeky

I'm not sure but it could be there isn't a segment of continuous ram for the transfer. I seem to recall that even the ram can get fragmented and cleaning it might help.

I have the superhose for G2f and it is the only pantyhose set I use for images now. The set for G3F looks to be made from the G2f with added morph and fits to make it as awesome as the other sets. I would have to aslo recomment the Superhose option.

  • Microsoft Announces Monthly Fee on Win 10 Enterprise Edition

I also find that people when making arguments are disregarding the youngster's attitudes towards copyright. They are growing up in a world where everything is free on the internet and they're unwilling to pay for it.

I was showing a student  animation and game making software and offered to spend a day with her showing her the software. She arrived with a portable hard drive assuming I was going to transfer everything I own onto her harddrive for her - she also had a pirated version of windows on her computer. It didn't occur to her that I wouldn't give her everything I had paid for or that people were losing money because of this and that there were license fees. It wasn't that she didn't care - it was more a case of she didn't know, didn't realise.

My computer was stolen some time ago - they broke into the house while we were sleeping - and I wished I had a button to push that would disable all the content on the computer. I could contact some companies and tell them to disable the licenses that were installed - but unfortunately in most cases it meant that all the software and graphics I had was stolen along with my computer. That's why I fully support encryption and the move that Daz is making - because I would want to lock someone else out of my content and the reality is that crime is out of control in my country - I've had 3 computers stolen and there's ever the chance that it will happen again. I want software to dial home so that I can block them. In fact I'd like a feature to activate that when your computer is stolen you can go onto the internet and disable your password and then when the person using the computer 'dials home' it blows up the computer ... I'll keep dreaming about that one!

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VeraCrypt

make a VERY large encrypted file. Install content or programs or personal documents into the encrypted file.

tell the software to treat the file as a drive. So for example make big file on C drive, call it BOB. With Veracrypt

it can mount BOB as your d drive. You use it as you would any other drive on your computer. When not in use

unmount drive.  For security give BOB a 56 leter/numbers/symbols password. Keep that password in a file created by a password management program like KEEPASS and use keep pass to sign into BOB file.

    http://keepass.info/

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KeePass

Keep KEEPASS password file on a usb stick and use a reasonably good password for opening the keepass file.

NEVER leave the usb stick with the laptop that has the BOB file.  Now if if your laptop is stolen and you did not leave the encrypted BOB file open then the hacker can have an enormous amount of fun trying to get your encrypted data. Probably won't bother since he is more likely to sell your laptop for drugs.

  • iRay only I'm tired of it.
The world is going to PBR because consumer level hardware can handle it.  You can get a good previous generation Nvidia card cheap.

...not one that can handle the load of the scenes I create.  The downside of not having a beefy GPU is unlike Octane, in Iray once the file exceeds GPU memory everything. geometry and textures, are dumped to the CPU and all those CUDA cores are suddenly worthless.I've had Iray render files reach upwards of 10 GB in size  Only one card will work, and it has been discontinued (besides, my older hardware won't support it anyway so I would have to build an entirely new system which is even more expensive).

How can you be certain you'll go over the VRAM that much? The ram monitors are not 100% accurate. I routinely exceed 2 gb and still pump out renders on my 2gb card.

We all have to deal with limitations. I'd love to have a Titan or two myself, and I'd probably go nuts with them if I had them. But that's simply not happening. Part of the art form is figuring out creative ways to get around hardware limitations. I would guess that even if you did fit your entire scene into a Titan, it would still take forever and a day to render, far too long to be practical. The stuff you are wanting to do is beyond any single computer. So no matter what the VRAM outcome is it would still be best to find a way to render the scene in parts and post them together. I've had images of a single figure with no back ground take hours to render, even though my GPU was trucking away at 100%. That VRAM didn't help me, my CUDA count was the issue (a GTX 670.) The 670 is old, but it still has a decent CUDA count.

The fact is Iray is still extremely difficult on hardware, even high end hardware. And that is the problem. It needs to be better optimized so badly. It needs to be able to split duty with standard RAM and delegate tasks between GPU and CPU. It needs to understand when pixels are not visible do not need to be rendered! Like a car with an engine in it, even though the hood is closed, that engine is still taking up memory. So to render the car faster, you need to delete or hide that engine. What nonsense is that? With VR taking off, look at how Nvidia worked to build a better VR experience. The 1000 series cards are so much faster at VR, way faster than their actual specs suggest they should be. Why? Because of better software. When the 1000 series runs a VR app, it takes into account which pixels are not visible, and it dumps these pixels. It does this for every single frame, which is over 90 frames per second. Now I know gaming tech does not transfer directly to Iray, but my point here is if Nvidia can figure out VR like this, they need to apply a technique like this to Iray. When pushed, Nvidia is capable of delivering an answer.

So if Nvidia ever gets off their sorry butts to fix Iray, then we'll see dramatic improvements in render times for everybody. Iray is more than just spec, it is software. My hope is that somebody will come along and do it better than Nvidia. Until then, I really wish Daz could work on their own rendering engine. That way they would have full control over it and not need to depend on Nvidia. I just think its a bad idea for Daz to depend on Iray so much.

  • GenX2 and Genesis 2 AddOn released! [Commercial]

Not really loving the GenX plugin for Gen3. While I have been getting lovely results converting my V4 characters to G2, my results for converting G3 to G2 have been hit and miss at best.  Most figures come over with no changes or odd changes like just the navel in one case. Even using the "get value from scene" is useless.  I directly transfer  Priya and despite her body and head morphs listed in the source figure section, no value was checked after transfer all non zero values was applied.  I have been able to transfer G2 to G3 and V4 to G3 though.

i'm having the same...I'm continuing trying to transfer Bethany 7, and only the hight changes, nothing else :(

  • July 2016 New User 3D Art Contest “Portrait Rendering” – WIP Thread

I finally found some time to step into the contest.  Here's my first draft of "She'll Never Suspect."

The character is my evil faerie, Princess of the Night, so she fits the evil queen role of Snow White very well.  She's undergone a complete makeover, as the first character was Genesis and this is G2F, which I rebuilt from scratch.  I did use GenX2 to transfer the DD Ear Morphs for Genesis to build her ears.  The costume is an exercise in kit-bashing.  I love Shox-Design's metal shaders that come with Calla Cascade Hair - you should check them out.  I made extensive use of them here.

This render in 3Delight is also an experiment with shaders.  I wasn't satisfied with the 3Delight materials for Perfect Potions, so I used AoA's Metailzed Glass Shaders, diamond for the glass and bumped the reflection up to 500%.  Now it looks more like its Iray counterpart.

The lighting is just a standard set of "Promo Lights" and is only temporary.  I want to play around with UE2's light emissive settings for the potions.  I want the contents of the cauldron to glow, but haven't decided how to do that yet.

  • Can you save the FBX with the CLothes attached to the body?

Of course it doesnt have the morph. That why i was/am trying to use a pluging for unity that  wraps the dresses on any morph of your body. however it's not working. that's why i was thinking about giving up and just exporting characters from daz without the use of that extension.

  • Recommendations for extremely photoreal long hair?
How easy is it to transfer Carrara dynamic hair to Studio?

Ir used to be impossible, but now with the Philemo plugin it should theoretically be possible.  I have the plugin, but haven't used it yet (and my plans on using it were focused on using it as a bridge for VWD to make conforming clothing dynamic for animation, finding out about transferring carrara hair into Studio was pretty far down the list for me personally :)  ) but I saw a thread in the Carrara forums mentioning both that the plugin would allow to turn Carrara hair into mesh and some early experiments from PhilW in doing so, trying to lock in on what would be the ideal settings for doing so.  Might want to hop over and ask, because although I doubt PhilW has got to the point where he is trying to import into Studio, it looks like he's definitely involved in figuring outt the method for turning Carrara dynamic hair into actual mesh.

Oh and sidenote in that same thread, apparently Philemo is very close to releasing a VWD plugin for Studio too, or at least that's what I infer from the notes about the newest version of VWD being able to work with Studio via Philemo's plugin.

Hey richard. Question. Mmm, while it does  look good( a dress) in Unity when the body shape does not have any morph....When you apply the full bodymorph in unity to your main character. the dress doesn't shape to that body shape. The body just pokes out of the dress.  And the dress also has the same BOdy shape morph but you dial it and it just messes up the dress rather than look like conforming to the dress. Anyway to fix this?     I was just hoping cause things like Megadaz (plug in to convert clothing to unity from daz) doesn't work. it's buggy. so there's no solution.

I transferred Mavka from genesis  to gf3 and everything looks great except for this ring around the iris. Anyone know what causes it? Transfer to GF2 does not have this issue.

There are fix morphs for the Irises and Pupils on Genesis 3.  Under the Shaping tab go to Eyes > Generation X > **Fix**.

Hmmm, I don't have a **Fix** section under Generation X. Is there something I have to do to get it?
