Girls, girls...girls
I buy more male figures, or rather male textures, but it's mostly because they have a much, much wider range of hair distribution patterns and let's say, nicely, skin problems, that are deemed unacceptable to represent on a woman.
For woman, it's basically you buy one representaive figure and you are pretty much set because they all have that same unblemished tan look, one could even say tropical native look given the way iRay renders with the DAZ Store textures. Really you have just hair styles to buy.
For both though, there is a paucity of very light textures with basic common tones that actually are light and actually render light in iRay. If would actually be nice to have a wider ranger of male and female textures from the very light pink white of some places to the very dark blue black of some places and the many varients inbetween but I understand California girls sell best so it's not a big problem. Well for me. I can imagine if you have a dream of making a game or animation or render of a certain type of person and not the talent or budget to hire an individual profressional that could actually do a good job with that it might be frustrating for you. Since DAZ 3D has decided to get into supplying the hobby game makers of the world you will see a better balance between men & woman; with even maybe the number of supplied men, at least texture wise and body morph wise, outnumbering the supplied women for the first time, owing to that old complaint of some women they must meet certain thresholds of beauty that men don't have to worry about.
As far as the clothes go, I wound up buying a boat load of male & female clothing from the M4/V4 days due to both price considerations and variety considerations. Despite the higher polygon count they actually don't look better than a good set of G3 clothing when you can find the style you are after.
DAZ and the PA must of learned long ago that products that aren't nearly naked in their ad copy don't sell nearly as well and if you make a clothing set if it's not some type of horror theme, whether that be the old golem and vampire horror or the new end of the universe sci-fi horror, it doesn't sell well, so given that I enjoy playing with DAZ as a hobby from time to time during the year I am not going to argue with their experience. It ultimately saves me money that I don't want any of those products.I can't really expect the DAZ Studio and PAs with over 200 countries and at one time about 7000 languages and language dialects, that they are going to research all that and start producing realistic products on all those people. I've very happy when I see major subgroups done realistically like the polynesians recently and rugby kits.
Multipe versions of Vicki in the libraryBecause when you morph them it does it to the multiple of the parenthesis
Michael and Friends Appreciation Association [Lots of images, please.]Messing around with Blender's particle/fluid sims.

How do you get from Studio to Blender? I tried some scripts, but it massively failed... and I didn't go hunting down why.
oh, and awesome, as usual.
No scripts used. Just regular export and then assigning all the materials to the correct regions.
So just export to OBJ and then transfer all the materials by hand? You are either dedicated or insane, man!
I do it for all my scenes lol. It can get pretty chatoic, but I have more control though :)
This is not the first time you've got me thinking I should poke harder at Blender.
Kenji 7 - DiscussMale-M3dia frequently includes bulge morph in his character and morph packs.
AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE UNDICICon M4 Skeleton credo che sia necessario creare un INJ... Ho provato un mucchio di volte a fare un morph nelle generazioni precedenti Genesis e ogni volta i deltas fanno storie...
Kenji 7 - DiscussYeah that's what I thought so using a primitive sphere wouldn't really work because you'd lose the figure collision.
At that point you could basically just make your own bulge morph for G3M...
Personally I'd just recommend waiting for a DO sale and grabbing the body morphs because they're so worth it.
Alternatively, a Zev0 sale and grabbing Shape Shift which is also very essential - not sure on the bulge part for G3M but I assume it has one?
Thanks Ix! I've added the Shape Shift products to my wish list. :) They're pretty much out of my budget at full price, but I'll keep an eye on them and hopefully see them go on a deep discount sale so I can get 'em. :)
Kenji 7 - DiscussYou could stick a sphere there and add a smoothing modifier to the pants to collide with it
Ignorant question that I've always wondered: is it possible to make clothing or whatever collide/smooth to more than one object at a time?
no but you could hide everything but clothes and export base for an obj morph target
or you could use the sphere on his crotch and make one that way too

July 2016 New User 3D Art Contest “Portrait Rendering” – WIP ThreadThanks Dracorn! You have a great eye for detail. Good comments and suggestions all around.
I was concentrating on the face and expression and overall layout. One thing I know I need to work on, but am really hesitant to tackle is the Fit Control. The gown really got distorted when I made adjustments to the bustline. That's next.
I did make a few changes. Color scheme still needs work, I know. Maybe a gold background...
Oh, and I stand corrected. McGillicuddy it is!

edit to add: yes, I did use an aging morph for V4; and yes, I tweaked the settings for the face, and the expression .
Girls, girls...girlsI like the girls as much as the next guy. Can't use them in my work, because I'm a guy doing videos. Girls voices are hard to acquire, so I just use guys.
I have never found a voice morph tool that could make my voice - sound like the golden lire of a beautiful woman.
Regardless, every day more of the same (Girls, Girls, Girls) except yesterday we had a prissy looking teenage boy in the shop Kenji or something like that.
Maybe this will perk you up or remind you have had enough girls, girls..girls. LOL . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMpL6JKF5Wwn
Kenji 7 - DiscussFirst Genesis3 character that made me want to buy it, particularly the Sasori character by Silver is terrific (not surprised because Silver does such fantastic work with female characters, so makes sense that this talent would carry over to pretty male characters too).
But I don't use Genesis3. I've seen that the latest plugin addon for Gen X2 would allow me to theoretically take a Genesis3 morph/character and put it on a Genesis1 figure. I'm wondering how well it works and how close it will come, I haven't picked it up because til now just haven't seen any Genesis3 characters that leapt out at me as outstanding must-have, but Kenji is excellent enough to make me consider it.
GenX with the add ons for Gen 2 and 3 work very well. I don't really use Gen1 figures but I have been getting good results taking V4 to Gen2 and Gen3 and Gen3 to Gen2. Check out the GenX2 and Genesis 2 AddOn thread and the Genx3 announcement threads

SimTenero Shape Reprojector [Commercial]Guys I just thought of something for the people who are undecided about this:
Hats.
Hats and hair.
OMG you're right!!!!!!! This has been my nemesis in character design...and I didn't even think of that....that's brilliant.
Edit- Did some quick playing. Had a hat-wearing character who'd I'd agonized over finding a decent combo, and shaped the hat a bit wonky just to get the hair to play nice, and even then I had some poke through without a lot of smoothing or an ugly push modifier. But the shape reprojector's done a nice job. Such a good idea.
Technical question:
Is it possible to have BOTH project inward and project outward active at the same time (I'm guessing if so the script would pick "which way" based on the nearest/farthest option selected)? It lets you check both boxes (i.e. it's not a radio button style choice)....but I've been working on a morph that I'm a few layers deep on and don't want to screw myself up by doing anything really stupid right now....so I haven't run it with both ticked.
Kenji 7 - DiscussI'm absolutely thrilled with Kenji. The attached image is all Kenji, un-anime'd a bit with morphs, because -- I have no respect. I used one mesh light (and environment), I used the skin as is and a new Capsces pose which rocked.
The thing that's so awesome for me is all these Daz characters provide genetics. Why use them out of the box, when you can make the perfect imaginary boyfriend, then dump him and make another perfect imaginary boyfriend (I'm not very faithful to my imaginary boyfriends.)
If I may be so bold, I think the artists take more risks with the male characters than the female ones, which is great for me being that I focus on the male form. But...just saying.
Appologies if this sounds crass, but as someone who is after realism in her renders, I'd love to know how you got that ...ehem ...bulge in the render. I'm pretty new to rendering males but when I render them with tight clothes it looks kind of bad when they don't really have anything going on down there - as it looks pretty unnatural.
Select the character. In the Shape tap, go to "Hip", and look for a morph named "Genital Bulge".
For G3M, you'll need this morph set: http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-body-morphs
But I think there's also a freebie available somewhere.
Ah! I see, well poop, I don't have those morphs. :( I'll see if I can find the freebie.
Some characters also come with a Gen bulge morph. Maybe checking out the hip section in the shaping tab shows you already have a bulge for a character. That can be used with any other character without a problem.

Men of Character: Fast GrabThanks, nelson and none. I actually look at pics of actors I like when working. I don't try to capture them exactly, just features I like. I was looking at Ian Mckellen when I worked on that morph. I also have Marlon Brando and Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, and Tony Todd among others, as influences on the various faces. The hair is AprilYSH's Rievel hair, which I still love. :)
It's a great character with a great face !
Thanks. :)
Carrara Genesis 3Well now we have GenX to bring G3M and F morphs over and I have gotten a reasonable workflow to transfer outfits over to G2M and Female and Genesis with additional bones, these new pro bundles like Kenji 7 looking slightly more tempting, only Skins, poses and HD morphs unuseable in Carrara on my Genesis2 and below.
The only stumbling block for me now is the still abysmal Australian dollar.
but once that improves if it does and there is another sale, might start to buy Genesis 3 stuff and wrestle it into Carrara friendly assets in DAZ studio, I am a sucker for new shiney .
Wendy,
can you list the products needed to do it... with maybe the links to the items in the store

would like to see what's involved as well as the cost... then maybe wishlist till a big sale comes along
For taking Genesis3 clothes to turn them into Genesis1 clothes, you need Sickleyield's Genesis 3 Clones for Genesis (link is for the bundle, but if needed you could buy either the Genesis3Female to Genesis1 clone or the Genesis3Male to Genesis1 clone):
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-clones-for-genesis-bundle ($32.95)
For taking Genesis2 clothes to turn them into Genesis2 clothes there are 2 products for the male and female versions (no bundle that I could find on this one):
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-for-genesis-2-male-s (Genesis 3 Male for Genesis 2 Male, $14.95)
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-for-genesis-2-female-s (Genesis 3 Female for Genesis 2 Female, $19.95)
For taking character morph shapes from any Genesis 3 character and putting it on a Genesis2 or Genesis1 figure, you'd need the Genesis Generation X2 tool/plugin:
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 ($37.95)
but that's just the base program to get shapes from Generation 4 figures and poser figures to Genesis1, by itself it doesn't cover Genesis2 or Genesis 3, so you'd need the plugin addons:
http://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-2 ($9.95)
and http://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3 ($14.95)
Headshop 10 - Any opinions yet?Where and how to paint in Headshop as there is no guide to it, meanwhile you have about a dozen videos that go in depth for Printahead, including two 15 minute long ones.
Beside that, I'm having some issues getting Headshop to work which are quite frustrating. I'm trying to make the profile picture work, but it just not happening. HS has crashed and had errors doing this. Here's some pics. I thought I'd try the ever popular Emma Watson, in part because she dominated my general google searches for portraits and profiles.
FAIL!!!I hit continue.
Notice where the blue dots are compared to the template? Something is horribly wrong.I tried this several different times and got the same result. I also tried NOT moving those 2 green dots, and/or NOT hitting the space bar to try and rule things out. I tried different dot locations. I get that same error and the same shrunkin template picture every single time.
And another problem, I tried tracing the lips on a potrait picture, but unlike the video tutorial, clicking on the first dot again after going around the mouth did not start the line between the lips. Nothing happened at all, and I was unable to advance and make the trace stick.
Headshop has crashed multiple times on me as well, and I've lost the time and work I put in each time. I also cannot seem to save a project and then start that project from where I left off. This thing is riddled with bugs, glitches, and crashes. I reinstalled it in my effort to get it working better. I'm on 64 bit Windows 10. i5-4690k, 32gb ram.
What is going on here?
So it looks like you're using a Mac and I am on PC but I am getting the same error with the profile section. Definitely frustrating. In my manual it says to push 'Enter' to push changes across but I have to hit it twice to make anything happen. It says that there may ne a minute when nothing happens so I waited and pressed the return key then the progress bar appeared and finished the morph. My results are not pretty though, the profile trace somehow makes the morph make her jaw hang open like some slack-jawed idiot...
Headshop 10 - Any opinions yet?Maybe because she came out so white looking with the light.
Yeah, the morph can be tweaked, but the texture is the main thing. A good texture will fool most people.
I googled Emma Thompson her face is not shaped so much like Emma Watson but early in her career they have similar complexion, hair color, and brown eyes.
Carrara Genesis 3for the clothing
well you need clones, you can make your own, there is a thread on it otherwise
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-for-genesis-2-female-s
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-for-genesis-2-male-s
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-clones-for-genesis-bundle
then using a reverse of this tutorial
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1043638/#Comment_1043638
you basically convert the clothing to triax instead
then in transfer utility
select the clone of the G3M or F with your earlier figure as the source
and pretty much do the same thing as outlined by Sickle but the other way
for the charcters
GenX2 with the addon you do the same as previous versions of GenX
I have not got a lot of Genesis 3 stuff yet myself but most I have has converted quite nicely, only a few bits like Wildenlander Sheath bit wonky deleting it outfit with geometry editor then making a prop or exporting an obj and editing that for a parented prop works better.
