Is DIM the protagonist now? What about Central?

What happened to DAZ Central? It’s simple curiosity, I really don’t need it, the last time I installed it made a mess, but it was the first thing that was shown when someone new wanted to install DS and now DIM is again occupying that place.
DAZ Central is like New Coke. No one asked for it, very few were impressed by it when they tried it, and the resultant negative publicity seems to have torpedoed it. Which is fine by me. The sad thing is that an improved version of DIM integrating some of the DC features would have probably been welcomed as an upgrade, but DAZ instead failed to learn from the sound rejection that DAZ Connect received, then compounded the error by making it so that DAZ Central couldn't even be used concurrently with the proven tech that everyone was perfectly happy with.
Is DIM the protagonist now? What about Central?I started using Daz in the summer of 2021. I've used Daz Central from the beginning and still use it virtually exclusively, basically trouble-free. Back in my early days, I read a lot of horror stories in the forums about DIM and steered clear of using it on a daily basis. I have configuration set up there and use it on a special case-by-case basis for certain cleanup tasks, but generally never go in there.

I think Daz Central got off to such a bad start, many people were afraid to even try it. After hearing the horror stories, I steered clear and stayed with DIM. I think DIM is king again. DIM has been updated a lot lately. I thought I read a post in the forum from an admin (probably Richard) that said Daz Central was going away and that some of the features were being incorporated into DIM, but I can't find that message now, so I might be imagining things, or it is wishful thinking.
DS is the king, DIM is the queen. The king cannot live well without the queen.

How can I get back to my regular workspaceI really don't think a full clear-out like that is advisable, even if Jay is doing it.
If your content was installed through Daz central (which the paths look like) or DIM then it should be enough to reimport the emtadata, once you have the content diectories correctly set up (check that you can load through the Content Library>Daz Studio Formats and Poser Formats).

I don't use DIM or Daz Central and only install purchased products manually. Nevertheless, I had a similar problem two or three years ago. It is really important to keep any receipt, from Daz or other providers. I was able to specify in my complaint exactly when I bought which product with which invoice number - and the problem was quickly solved.
What was the problem? If you installed it manually, it should be there. Content from other vendors is installed manually as well.
Does does look at the manually installed files and remove them, or did you just not find it in your Product Library? It had disappeared from my Product Library. I noticed it because a product I knew for a fact I had bought turned up at a sale. When I went to the product page, the red 'Purchased' tag was missing. So I checked my PL, noticed that this product was no longer there and asked what that meant...
You need to send a ticket.
Do you still have the receipt in your email?
Thanks Pertti, your advice cannot be repeated often enough. For me it was two or three years ago. I wrote that everything was done quickly because I ALWAYS keep my receipts and could therefore say exactly when I bought the products, under which order number, etc. Apparently something like this happens every now and then when someone fumbled on the shop software.

How can I get back to my regular workspaceSo, if it is not an installation problem, what would I have to do to get the Viewport or other pane in the central dock area to show up?
Cheerio

Issues with Lou's ZeebaIf you want to report issues to Daz it needs to be done via a ticket - the forum team may try to help, but we don't have access to all content.
If people install through one of the Daz install methods (Central, Install Manager, Connect) or even use Install Manager as a downloader followed by manual installation then they should get notification of updates.
How can I get back to my regular workspaceDid it help? I would expect the whole thing to be white if it was the isntalaltion issue, as that corrupts the style file. You seem to have the "empty" colour set to white, and no Viewport or other pane in the central dock area, but the other panes look normal.

We don't have ice fishing items. For some of us in cold winter climates, it's a really big deal. and common winter pastime. The same goes for snowshoeing, snowmobiling, winter barbeques/bonfires, ice racing, ice mazes, and giant ice slides.
...being a former resident of north central Wisconsin, I'd be into that. An environment set/bundle with a lake setting, ice fishing shacks, fishing gear, and appropriate props would be great. Wouldn't have to be "generation specific" either.

If you reset the database you should just need to reimport metadata I think.
Thanks, unfortunately, that only seems to work for DIM files. Connect files are not on the list.
Daz Connect doesn't reimport its metadata like that, if the database goes then the only option is to go through reinstalaltion (which should, as long as the directory has not been chnaged, see the existing files and not redownload them). Do check, though, that you still have the parent folder of /data/cloud/ selected as the Daz Connect data directory or a regular content diectory as not finding the files will also stop them from displaying in the virtual Daz Connect content directory.
Thanks, yeah, I didn't changed the directory and it's still the one referenced in the Content Directory Manager.
I tried reinstalling things, but DS fails to see the files are already there and downloads them all from scratch at an incredibly slow pace compared to DIM/Central. I dissabled firewalls and antivirus just to try.
Installing offline products doesn't work either. I know how to install those, but it's not working anymore.
Smart Content only shows the DIM files.
anyone else unable to install Mango Movement collection for Genesis 9 parts 1 and 2?Sounds as if the Connect files are broken, certainly, but that shouldn't affect DIM/Daz Central once the referecnes to the Connect versions are gone. Try working offline in DS, find the entry for the Mango Moves product in Content Library>Products>M, right-click on the container (the folder) and delete it (this just removes metadata, no actual files). Then try reinstalling through DIM.

how do you fit in their bed?
By the time I go to bed, my chair is warmed up and some of them crawl into a pile in it. The dog's bed is on the floor beside mine complete with big pillows and blankets, but in cold weather, she usually crawls into bed with me sometime during the night. I do have sleeping stations for the cats throughout my room and the house. When it's really cold, some of the cats crawl under the covers. Strangely enough, I have a queen-sized bed upstairs, but never sleep on it, haven't in over 2 decades. I used to work midnights, so I put a twin bed in my office because it was the quietest spot in the house to sleep while the rest of the family was up and about. It became my little haven and I've slept here ever since, even after the kids moved out. The cats tend to stay at the various sleeping stations in my room at night, even though they have all kinds of other spots to hang out. They use the other spots during the day. All the animals are really good about moving if I tell them to.

Complaint: It's getting cold but I refuse to turn the heat on in October. It's a "me" thing. Heating costs are way too high and I refuse to pay more than I have to, considering we generally get 5 months of snow here and it gets down to -35C, sometimes colder.
...I dread the approaching cold as well for the same reason. Granted winters don't get anywhere near as bad here but, after some 43 years out here in the Northwwest (transplant from north central Wisconisn where below 0 "Fs" are also common) I've become acclimated (and winters here are also very damp as well).
My place just has one of those in the wall heaters (like you find in motels in the south and at the beach) which is terribly inefficient and only keeps the area by the bed slightly warm. Adding a second heater near the desk (like one of those oil filled ones) will only increase the power bill that much more. I can wrap up in blankets when I go to sleep, but it's difficult to type on the keyboard at my desk while wearing gloves . My dyslexia and arthritis already make it difficult enough to avoid typos.
I bought a "Comfy", which is essentially a massive sweatshirt with a thick sherpa pile inside that comes down to my knees. There are knockoffs on the market, but they're not as warm and the wind goes right through the cheap ones. Mine is warm enough to wear outside in weather well below freezing and I have sheepskin slippers that cover the ankles. If my feet or ankles are cold, the rest of me is cold. Fortunately, winters here are usually a "dry" cold, so my arthritis is usually not too bad in winter. But in spring and fall when it's raining and cold, or whenever the barometric pressure drops, the pain really ramps up. "Wet" cold is just horrible! It feels much colder than what the thermometer says. One thing I can highly recommend for arthritis is an anti-inflammatory diet. It helps me tremendously.
The [Disco Chives] Misplaced Parrot Complaint Thread...I prefer "Beer Thrity" or "WIne O'Clock".

Underrepresented Styles, Themes, ErasI thought of something else that's badly needed. Every really hilly town or city has steep streets with shops and/or homes on either side, as well as long (often narrow) stairs going up to higher levels in those places. Typically, there are level doorsteps with doors opening onto the sloped street. In the case of stairs there is usually a small landing where the doors open onto the stairs. We have a few really nice sets that have different levels (Stonemason's come to mind), but none that are really steep with roads.
Ideally, the set would be modular and something generic that could be found in different parts of the world, and specifically have both a road for vehicles as well as stairs for pedestrians. Add-on packs with different street furnishings, window shutters, roofs, wall surfaces, road surfaces, etc. could be offered to make it more suitable for different locales/cultures/historical eras. It would be awesome if some of the doors, windows and shutters could open and close. Add-on sets with small balconies or rooftop terraces would be awesome as well.
Here are examples from different parts of the world.
