    Thanks all.

I was able to create a FBMExpandAll morph by simply clicking on the item and going to Assets -> Transfer Utility.

For the projection template, I just left it blank at "None", and click ok.  FBMExpandAll then appeared under Actor -> Adjustments.

    Awesome.

  • G3 Head Morphs users?

That's Face Older, Crowsfeet and Foreheadwrinkle at 100% (and without)

That's really good. Put some grey hair in there and change the hair style as often is the case and it's a good character. It probably needs morph possibilities for a bit of droppiness under the chin, upper eyelids, and lower eyelids and the forhead wrikles to have more of an little etched feeling and not a groove look as it is now.

It's a fine balance but the effect is want you want - a picture of the young person and the same person aged.

Doing several intermediate steps to smooth the oddball morph transitions makes a lot of sense and would be easy to do. Just set up the animation timeline at frame 0 with a T pose and at frame 30 with the target end pose and advance through the animation and pick one or two intermediate frames and export those and in MD go from one to the next to the next until you get to the final pose. I guess if it comes to a need for it, I'll do that.  Thanks for all your feedback, this was really useful!

  • Tween Julie 7

    Greetings,

I was always mystified at the low level of support for YT Julie, especially given how popular Laura had been for the V3 generation.  It didn't help that the product launch for the Young Teens was marred with the "peg teeth" issue, or that one of the first dedicated products (Deborah) was inexplicably nippleless, but I think it was also the fact that there were never any younger kid sets introduced and all the "youth" stuff for Gen 4 was designed for really little kids, while HIro and AIko's stuff had all gotten a lot more sexualized.  Really, outside of the standlaone Satsuki, Julie and Justin kind of existed in a weird vacuum until Josie came along two years later.

Satsuki was a really good character, too, one of my memorable favorites from that generation.  Especially good for mixing in.

The thing about the 'breast inversion' is that it's easy to get rid of from the clothes.  Send it to Hexagon, pull up the UV & Paint section on 'Soften', and clean up the breast area, and send it back as a character-specific morph, reversing deformations.  I've made unrecognizable t-shirts look like their promo pictures again using this, as well as the breast-ridges that sometimes happen when putting clothes that have decent bridging on adults onto younger characters.  There's also a common problem where the waistline gets 'wavy' because some polys of the underlying model got pulled up, and the Soften brush helps with that also.

It also works for most forms of under-breast distortion and (slightly less well) on shrink-wrap that happens from autofitting jeans of various types.

What I've never (before writing this post) wondered about, but would be fascinating, would be to instead use the 'Soften' brush on the character, and then save that as a morph that might fix all the clothing I'd fit to them, instead of fixing each piece of clothing as I went.  The underyling character's skin would probably not look particularly good because the textures are meant for the character the way it comes, but that's okay as it might make the clothes look normal and most of my characters are rendered with clothes on.

That seems similar to what I do regarding exporting the character and the prop / chair as a single OBJ avatar so I guess I got that right. It was just a guess, I couldnt find any documentation. Regarding the export of an animation in MDD I don't think you can do that without aniMate, which I don't own because I don't do animations. I don't think I'll spring for $60 just to do this, I'm afraid.  Does seem that your workflow is similar to mine in nature if not specifics, which means it probably wouldnt be a simplification really. A matter of preference I suppose.

The thing about doing it as a morph though is that it starts out perfect and it ends perfect but in between the avatar gets all sorts of screwed up looking. Hands get all wonky and flat and twisted, for example, as they morph into the final position.  So far I havent had it mess up any of the cloth drapes but I am concerned of the possibility.  If that happens maybe I'll need to consider the $60.  I thought perhaps doing poses would be better but I haven't figured out how that works really, and I don't think it would work with the chair anyway.

    What I do is:

Need third party tool for this, but it's free script. http://www.sharecg.com/v/76477/gallery/8/Script/animMorph

Export OBJ of character and collision props(I find having her in APose arms lowered by 40, and legs moved apart wider is easier to model the clothes on though). Props way out of the way as well. I export at DAZ studio scale

Then I move the timeline 180 or more frames then set the pose and props up and set keyframe.

I might repeat step 2 many times, adding different poses

Then when all done posing, I save the scene, and export a MDD animation file.

In MD first I just import the OBJ, and build the clothes.

Then I import the MDD cache animation file. Also remember to put daz studio scale, and also you have to check invert Z axis, or your figure will do a 180 lol.

Then I do all the fun animation draping in MD.

Then once that is done, I export the clothes, as OBJ sequence and uncheck unified U/V's(not sure if unchecking that is critical). And back to DAZ studio.

I open the scene back up, and import only the first OBJ in the sequence.

Then I select the clothes OBJ and open up morph loader pro. Choose morph files, and select the rest of the OBJ files.

Then run the animorph script and done. It's more useful for animation, or if you plan on rendering a bunch of poses. Sometimes I end up liking a "tween frame" better for render than the keyframes, so gives me some more options to choose from.

... yeah, been dealing with it since the Gen4 days. Spent months developing a viable Gen4 child character long before there was ever a K4. Julie 5 was probably still the best young teen in my book as she had the most accurate physique for that particular age group.

Yeah it would have been nice if more characters had been developed off her base, or even an updated Hayley who I also find is easier to morph into a more believable early/pre-teen when it comes to accurate body porportions.

  • suggestion: stand chainsaw

Here is an image of a stand chainsaw I have created with everyday morphing primitives by maclean, vals chainsaw (used just the sword and the chain, rest is hidden) and some screws. Textures also by some other sets, so this whole thing is a mix and match product. the chainsaw can be moved up/down along the spindle.

Maybe someone of the great artists around here at DAZ can create this as a figure or prop (up/down for the saw morph/transform is a must) for the store so others can buy it and use it, too :)

It is useful to saw wood or maybe other things (depends on ones preferences)

Iray and 3Delight would be good.

  • Posing and draping in Marvelous Designer

I have been playing around in MD and made a few things I like and they come nicely into DAZ Studio.  However I wanted to figure out how to get a more dynamic look and decided to try a sitting pose, using the dynamic nature of MD to drape the cloth accordingly then import it back into Studio. I don't know how to export and load poses to MD so I went with a morph target.  Cool but then getting the seat to actually work was a challenge. You can import it as an object but it won't collide with the clothing. No good.

So here's the workflow I came up with, wonder if anyone has an easier way to do this?

    1. Pose character (with all morphs applied) and pose it in seated position in Studio. Add chair in correct spot. Export character and chair as an OBJ #1 (base resolution)
    2. Reset character pose to default T- Pose and move the chair way back in the Z axis.  Export character and chair as an OBJ #2 (also in base resolution)
    3. Import OBJ#2 (T-Pose and chair) into MD as an avatar. Note that the chair is actually a part of the avatar so rotation is a pain since the chair is far away making the pivot point somewhere in the middle of nowhere but it is a collision item at least. Fit the clothing to the character as normal.
    4. Load OBJ #1 (Seated pose with chair in proper position) as a morph.  As it is applied two things will happen
      1. The character will morph to their final seated position
      2. The chair will move into it's correct position, colliding with the garment (say, a skirt) from behind. It collides because it's actually a part of the avatar, as noted above. To get this to look decent I ramped up the number of steps from the default 30 to 45 or 60 because at 30 that chair is coming in way too fast (or rather there aren't enough calculation steps as it comes in) and the cloth tries to blow up.  More calculations = slower drape but cleaner result with the chair.
    5. Export the garment (just the garment) in this seated position as an OBJ, import into studio with the character / chair position as in step 1 and there you go.  It should be a perfect fit for your posed character, no rigging needed (or desired, really).

The render below was a result of this process.  But it's tedious. I'd like to know if there's a better way to get a character to pose in MD and to collide with an object like a chair while the draping is happeneing.  Any better methods?

This looks super useful!!! I'm not too tech savvy so I'd like to know if it can actually do what I need it for.

I mainly want it for the toony figures that have great big head and eyes and tiny bodies. I especially love Callie, does anyone have her and would be willing to post a step by step for dummies on how to transfer her? Much appreciated :)

DestinysGarden is correct. Applying the geotrim for the sleeveless morph prior to applying the texture works to get the shirt applied correctly.

It is odd to me that this doesn't load with the preset though. Other cosumes seem to load correctly.

LOL .... HHHMMMMMM ... I may have heard that a time or two as a kid while travelling. Have you thought of a boot that is taller with the same heel morphs as the Treadz? Something that goes up to just below the knee? Bad Kitten made these for V4 a ways back but still a favorite of mine. I know its a little late for the Treadz but maybe a future set of boots or maybe a taller morph? I love the Treadz for heroine boots and it seems more reasonable to give them a taller heel when they aren't trying to balance on a point the size of a pencil.

There is a KneeHigh morph that goes up to almost to the knee.  You could run it past 100% and use the adjustment morphs for an even higher look.

  • Actual Geometry Editing.

You can use DForm which is part of Daz Studio, to morph the item, such as lengthen/short skirts & sleeves, or adjust waist sizes etc.

To remove a sleeve or some part of a garment you would only be able to do that by making the part transparent in the Surfaces tab. To remove it permanently would need it be done in a modeller.

What changes where you wanting to make that you don't think are possible?

Essentially, I want his head only as a single dial morph.  Currently, he's made up of three separate, single dial characters so his head comes with the body.  If I can do it, I want the head on the basic g3m figure, so I can shape the body from scratch - I'm not overly happy with the way this one bends, etc.  I may just be expecting too much and it's probably more trouble than it's worth.  I don't have the modelling skills, either lol.

  • GoZ-like workflow for other modeling tools

I haven't invested in Zbrush, but I am finding an increasing desire to do small corrective morphs to figures or clothing that has already been parented and posed. I know how to make morphs starting from the t-pose, but I can't figure out how to get exported .objs to import as usable morphs after the figure's been posed. Anyone have suggestions what I might be doing wrong? Is this even possible without a bridge software?

Do use GoZ for corrective morphs, way way simpler and faster.

    All you need to do:

    Character, posed, press GoZ.

Dialog: export with deformation checked. You'll get the posed character in Zbrush.

Morph away in ZBrush. GoZ to Daz when finished morphing.

You get a dialog popup, typically it is Update Geometry > Create Morph already checked for you (there're auto-generated parameter settings below, including Reversed Deformation: YES) but ignore all this which can be adjusted later, and just click ACCEPT.

Nothing seems to happen. Character in viewport won't show new morph, yet.

Go to Parameter and find the (new auto-generated) ZBrush group, you'll see a new slider 'ZBrush Morph' at 0%. Turned it up to 100% you'll see your corrective morph now showing on your character.

Do the rest of your dial settings adjust, ERC and morph saving etc.

    ----

GoZ is a cleaner workflow. I import 100% new figure/ prop, or make Genesis/ clothing morphs all the time. Unless I'm redoing UV I don't even need to export OBJs from ZBrush to Daz. Haven't needed to use Morph Loader Pro so far.

I've looked up YT videos and a lot of people who use this program, at least the ones making videos seem to think geometry means texture map.

I am looking to change the base shape of objects.  For example removing one sleeve of an outfit but leaving the rest in place, shortening pants, lengthening hair, etc.

Or do I need to do all of that from scratch in something like Maya?

There have been a few outfits and whatnot that have seemed useful with a few minor changes I'd want to make but they're not really worth the purchase if I may as well be doing it from scrat

  • FBMExpandAll?

When you use transfer utility to transfer rigs ,weight, or morphs to another obj, or figure, (though  you may need to model the OBJ to fit the Soruce shape)

if You  Use projection tempalte as source, the transfered clothing will have "FBM expand all"of projection template as their morph.

(if you do not know well about transfer utility, serch another topic in forum, it is auto-frig tool which can transfer weight and rigs for the obj or different figure)

you can use projection template, from  drop down mnenu. then must check ON morph targets, and check "From projection to Template".

I remember, most of template (which are offered from daz stuido )  have FBMexpandAll areleady, then you can transfer it as new MOPRH to the target  cloth.  , when You use transfer utility.

("Auto fit" is  simple auto process of Transfer Utility,, it  Auto transfer rigs and weight from Source Figure template (full body or shirts etc as "Type")

to the different generation Figures( clothing,)   then those "auto-fit"  clothing  have FBMexpand all.

at least, if you use "FullBody" template with transfer utility,, or select type "full body" when you try auto-fit , it should transfer FBMexpandAll, I remember.

About to save FBMexpandAll, as new morph.dsf,  Untill to make it,, You may need to save the Auto-fitted item, (or transfered Utility generate item )  as new Figure..

then DS should  produce, FBMexpandALL..dsf in each figure,  morph directory (in Data) as same as other saved figures and morphs.

    ======================

I added one more pic. which show what is projection template.

    ==============

to check easy, which template have morphs or not, open file exproler then check data directory.

my pic show the genesis2femalte template "FullBody" of Auto Fit and transfer utility.

though these things is hidden from "Usuall customer"  and daz do not tell us detail,

I believe, user need to know, what they will do when use tool more clear, with official doucments and Pic

    to enjoy daz studio.
