creating content for a specific pose/ morph?Unfortunately, none of these solutions work quite right. Even if you transfer the rigging, it'll never transfer quite right. The weight maps will all be messed up. Reverse deformation will absolutely not work because there are no deformations to begin with. That only works for importing mophs onto an existing figure that has other morphs. For a completely new figure, it's not gonna do anything. To make things worse, there is a bug in DAZ Studio if one of the bones is rotated a certain way, your rigging will never work when rigging high heels. You have to make sure the shin's rotation around y is zero. Same with the foot I think. And if you go over the bend limit of the foot, all bets are off. Some of the bones will end up inverted. It's super annoying. You can only fix it by manually setting the bones and then cleaning up the weight maps yourself. But the rigging is the most important. When you do have proper rigging, it works great. But otherwise, it's a pain. I really wish you could apply bones and weight maps based on a morphed and posed figure. Well, it'll let you, but it'll use the default non-mophed figure without telling you.
Oh, and let's not mention the effect of full figure morphs onto the heel itself because there is no way to enforce fixed scaling.
creating content for a specific pose/ morph?Sorry itnrerupt topic, but now I hope Thomas document will help many user (include me), then hope it can answer almost question,,
then I hope you add some discribe, when you use "ransfer rigging (figure space) " to make clothing with posed figure,
you may need to count the defomation effect of Actor JCM . because,, transfer rigging may set target nodes rigs as default. that means the target node rigs not rotate at all.
but when it fit to,, then Actor pose (eg foot pose), it should transfer JCM effect with auto-follow process,, then I have experienced (other user had same thing,,)
it not perfect fit your modeled clothing as same as before,,,,
I can not clear discribe all detail,, (my knowledge is almost just try and correct it,, then remember,,) but I hope you check again those detail.
and,, the Alternative plan is,, use "bake joint rotation" , like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbhf7cwq9hM
he use "bake joint rotation", but still auto-followed JCM problem happen,
this tutoriall is really recommend because,, it clear show how to manage those auto-followed JCM problem,, and it was really difficult to clear guide.
I now feel,, when you up-load your PDF, I may no need to keep come forum, and serch around any more. may not come here often.
really hope your work finish,, and should be good document.
(to be honestly ,, I really hope support you if I can , though I do not have knowledge , ,,may send daz gift card? and hope translate it as my country language,, after I read them,, )
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7Here's another character friend of Karen 7. This is Arianna for Karen 7 by Raziel and Silver.
I tried the two elf ear morphs provided by the product, but I did not like them. They may be OK for distant views, but they look very choppy and rough in closeups.
Also used in this image are Eclipse Outfit, which fits well and looks great. I did use a little bit of the Loosen morph to fix a tiny bit of pokethrough on the Arianna model breasts.
The hair is Augusta Hair for G3F, a PC+ refit. I'm not too thrilled with it.
Those ears don't really excell during closeups, agreed. With a softer light maybe someone could get away with it. (LOL- like, DUSK.) I love the Eclipse Outfit, I featured it when I did the Photoshop plug-in renders about six months ago. It fits well and looks very sleek. Nice render!
What is the difference in the Smoothing options of Generic vs Base Shape Matching? Generic is just more vague where base shape uses the base figure mesh?
Poke Away 3 For Genesis 34) Weight maps; theoretically you could make a weightmap to correct poke-through. Good luck.Actually, you would be modifying the existing weight map of the item to correct the poke through.
What is missing from this tool box is a set of brushes that could be used to directly paint away mesh distortion in real time. In addition to the usual "push and pull" brushes there are also a couple of brushes which could quickly solve problems that none of the above tools seem to be able to; namely a proper "smooth" brush to get rid of mesh distortion, a "shrink to target" brush to make clothing tight fitting in the places you want it to be tight fitting, a "loosen" brush which would do the opposite of shrink, that would be great for poke-through, and maybe a "Wrinkle/Crease" brush which would allow you to put wrinkles, creases or folds into clothing. Brushes would be quick and easy to apply and get instant results with no extra overhead for DS to cope with, as the brushes would create a new morph.
*sigh* All these will do is affect the item for the particular pose you have the character in, much like the "Zone Smoother" product that one of the PA's made does for the figure being morphed. Without editing the weight map, you will have to redo this for every pose change you make with a particular body morph and outfit. It's actually going to be less work to modify the weight map in the long run.
Removing weight maps from a node selection?basically, you can "Fill selected" , . as 0% .then it remove only about your current selected poligon weight,
then those removed weight map will auto transfer to the parent node with auto normalize option I think , (I do not know this transfered detaill,, sometimes try use lock anotehr nodes,
then only un-lock decide target node,, but it seems not work I expected,,)
(atternuate selected 100% work too)
But Sometimes, to delete weight map if the geometry was separated and colored as 100 already then overwrappoed other mesh ,,
I need, smooth wieght manuall with brush,, (use with ctrl or alt), then it will start remove weight map, usually after that,, I can use FIll selected,.
(you can use manuall paint, with check option, "Respect selection" I remember,,
======
anyway Thomas really apreciated,, the option (distribute weight map) is actually one of option, I can not clear understand the way,,
your document seems must need item, I think now.
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7Here's another character friend of Karen 7. This is Arianna for Karen 7 by Raziel and Silver. In this image I didn't modify the skin, but I did change the fingernails and toenails to Scatter Only instead of Scatter and Transmit, to match the rest of the skin. On Scatter and Transmit it had a blue SSS Reflectance Tint that was making the fingernails look blue to me, so I changed it to what I preferred in my scene.
I tried the two elf ear morphs provided by the product, but I did not like them. They may be OK for distant views, but they look very choppy and rough in closeups. I don't think it is user error, because all I did was load the figure and double click on the ear shaping preset. The problem may be a general lack of geometry in G3F ears that make ear morphs not work well (just a guess). The elf ear renders also show off a mismatch between face and head that I think is due to the bump maps. In the UV space, the head takes up much less space that the face. That needs to be taken into account when vendors are making the bump and normal maps, or situations like this occur where the surface doesn't seem to match. As long as you are not doing extreme closeups, or if you cover it with hair, you may not notice (I didn't until rendering these ears).
It didn't fit the Arianna head very well (too small) and there was no morph to generally enlarge it that I could find. I had to fiddle with temple morphs to approximate a fit. I tried changing the smoothing from Generic to Base Shape Matching, and all sorts of wild triangles appeared on the screen, so that didn't look helpful.
The Iray texture looks too plastic and shiny in this light, to me. I think it might look better if I turned down the Top Coat Weight; it is set to 1 by the Iray material preset.Edit: I forgot to mention the pose again. This time it is from Dark Spell Poses for Genesis 3 Female(s).
How to delete a morph knowing his name ?if I save the scene with the property and I reload the scene, the property is there but if I delete the property, save the scene and reload the scene, the property stay deleted
there no morph on the disk with the name I gave, it looks like the morph property is only in the scene not written elsewhere
WIP dress - what now?It is being modelled to the base! I tried modelling it to a character before and that was certainly a mistake. The only morph loaded in was at the last picture, which shows how it distorts when a character -is- added. Are you 100% sure...because she looks a little flatter in the chest than base G3F should (but it's hard to tell for sure with the dress on...a 'blank' grey profile view would be allowable to post)?
To ensure that there aren't any moprhs you should 'zero' the figure before exporting...in the Parameters tab, click the little lined box (looks like a piece of lined paper) and select 'Zero > Figure'. Then click 'Currently Used' and make sure nothing is showing. Also, it would be a good idea to export a zeroed figure at 'normal' resolution AND one at 'base' resolution.
Importing/Exporting Objects into and out of Carrara - Q&Agood idea for a topic!
In this first case, noting that the obj format is text-based, you might consider comparing a simple obj export from another program and your Image 3D program in your favorite text editor (or notepad) and see if the formats look similar, and if any paths in your troublesome obj file seem to resolve to other files (e.g. material textures) in a viable way - full-paths, unquoted paths, material files, and folders mentioned where none exist - things like that. Even if you don't know what the format spec is, sometimes the problems are simply obvious and a few tweaks might get you running again...
Almost every transfer I do seems to want to be treated a bit differently. This topic may prove to be a godsend for many over the long-term!

Good point, Mindsong. When I worked on Custom Content for Neverwinter Nights, BioWare was kind enough to offer a free utility which decompressed their model files into a format that our GMax and 3DS Max plugins could import. Then we had other community members whom made wonderful utilities to work with those in Text-beased ways for various purposes, like cleaning up common problems, renaming texture files, etc.,
I've done a few renaming jobs within the model file in a text editor by hand and, while it's not something I'd like to fill my days with, I was at least able to accomplish the task I needed to get done ;)

Folded Clothes OptionNelsonsmith, you are absolutely right, clothes are not always worn, sometimes they are on the sofa or bed or floor, whereever! Occassionally a PA will put in one or two such morphs (but sadly not often).
The best solution would be a proper dynamic clothing function within DS (or as plugin) which allowed you to clothify normal objects (as can be done in Poser for example). Unfortunately, this does not exist at present within DS. Due to the system chosen by DAZ3d, only objects specifically designed to be dynamic clothing may be used as dynamic objects where "gravity" can distort the object. Moreover, the software required to make such dynamic clothing (for the system used by DAZ which is called OptiTex, I believe) is very expensive. Most PAs therefore do not make dynamic clothing as the chance of recouping the cost of the software is small.
There are ways of exporting a clothing item to a program like Poser which can convert the clothing into a dynamic object. Then you can allow it to drape into the position you want and then export that as an object. You can then import the new shape as a morph for the clothing. This is quite a time consuming process and you need to create a new morph for each draped position. Most PA's do not go to this effort with their clothing items. However, if you have a specific pose in mind, this might be worth the effort for you.
I don't blame the PA's for this. What would be really great is if a PA could create a plugin which could clothify the clothing item directly in DS in real time. (They might not be able to use the term Clothify as it may be covered by copyright, but that should not be a problem.)

http://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-maleNovica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7Since Karen is on sale this week, along with her friends, here is Frida for Karen 7 with Alliance Outfit (which Novica made me buy a few days ago
), and Force Hair. Karen's friends don't have much family friendly clothing, so that is why I chose the Alliance Outfit for this thread. I had a bit of pokethrough on the Alliance jacket with the Frida morph, so I added a Push Modifier and set the Mesh Offset to 0.01. That took care of it. I also had some pokethrough with the Force Hair. I turned on smoothing and also set FHMExpandAll morph to 2%. That fixed that. All of the textures here on the skin, hair and clothing are as delivered by the product. I did not have to modify them for satisfactory results. Frida has some of her makeup, lips, and nail options applied. I did find a bug with one of the Frida makeup options applying settings that didn't match the body, so I'll be submitting a help request for that.
By the way, the HDRIs that I've been using the last few days are from HDRI Haven. Since I purchased them, attribution is not required, but I though you might want to know. Since they are not Daz products, all you get are the HDRI files. You have to plug them into the environment map in Render Settings and adjust the other environment and tone mapping settings yourself.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the pose is from Supercomic Poses for Karen 7.
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7Here is my Haven morph guess with the Garden Outfit. It is a nice outfit and comes with several texture choices for each clothing piece. It includes boots (not shown in this render). BUT I hate the crotch fit. I tried it on an unposed unmodified G3F and it still looks pretty bad in the crotch, to me. I wonder if Fit Control can help that?
WIP dress - what now?Not sure --but in case other more experienced modelers see this ...what figure is it? also It kind of looks like the dress was modeled on a morphed figure and then rigged on a non morphed figure
It is the Genesis 3 Female base!
The dress was modelled on the Genesis 3 Female and then the Transfer Utility used; on an unmorphed G3F.For the UV issues...look online at dress patterns...actual patterns to make a dress from. Those pieces should give you some help in breaking up the dress into a logical UV layout. For clothing, you will need several seams, not just that one cut you currently have. I would, minimally break it into a front and back for the unwrapping...maybe even more pieces.
Second, possibly more important...are you modelling this to the base (G3F or whatever) or to a character?
That's really key advice, thank you!!!!! Especially regarding several seams! I made a strange assumption that because it was a simple dress, it would only need 1 seam. I'm not sure why. Thank you so much!!!!! <3 It is being modelled to the base! I tried modelling it to a character before and that was certainly a mistake. The only morph loaded in was at the last picture, which shows how it distorts when a character -is- added.
UV mapping is a skill all it's own. Just so you know that that uv map is going to stretch horribly when you put a texture on it. I tend to cut uvs for clothing like I would a pattern for the same item of clothing. Cut it down each side so that there's a front and a back...if that makes sense to you ;) It also looks like maybe the cloth may have thickness which "might" cause problems for you down the line. Most DS clothing doesn't have a back side, or in this case an "inside" since that's something one will never see and is just wasted polygons anyway. Maybe you only need a few rows of polygons around all the open edges on the inside. The rest of the interior you can delete.
Good lord, tell me about it. It really did stretch horribly and I was devastated, lol! Also, I don't know why it has that thickness, but you're right; I think I might start the dress from scratch again and try ensure that it doesn't have that thickness to it!
WIP dress - what now?"Oh God, not Ashfire again", I hear you cry. And I agree whole heartedly. :p However, I find that my momentum with my first project has stopped completely. I'd love some advice/crticism and what I should try fix and improve upon!

ISSUES I'M HAVING:
1) I can't create a tidy looking UV map. No matter where I place the seams, even taking note of where other modellers put their seams and loading a similar dress to see where the creator has put theirs, I end up with just... a big untidy looking blob. Therefore, I unfortunately can't get started on a texture map. If I apply a texture map to the UV I have., it's wonderful looking in some areas, but stretches in others.
2) I've used the transfer utility to get a basic rig going, but it doesn't bend very nicely, particularly the chest. How do I fix this?
3) Morphing in other characters makes it so much worse...
I know, I know. What you're seeing is an insanely amateurish piece of work. And I want you to be harsh on this - right now it's a piece of crap, and I want to learn how to make it better! So don't be afraid of being rough on it, because I'm here to learn and improve, not have my ego stroked for baby's first model! :p
creating content for a specific pose/ morph?Well, you basically model an item in a pose you wanted.
Afterwards Transfer Utility on the .OBJ mesh you imported.
The item will get screwed up, but you just unfit it.
Pose the character into the pose you modeled the item on.
Then you follow the steps to transfer rigging (figure space) when unfit.
Aftewards just fit the item. It should now work.
creating content for a specific pose/ morph? Thanks Thomas, is it the right course when importing a .obj? Use transfer utility with a default figure, unfit it then use transfer rigging?
