Wow thanks for all your help guys. SixDs - I did expect to see a few more morphs for G3, but was shocked to find so little (as part of starter essentials). I have taken a screen shot of G3/shaping(tab)/head, which only has one morph. As you can see from the G3 screen shot there is no face morph.

I am convinced I am doing something wrong here as DS shourly wouldn't release an update to G2 with loads less morphs.

nonesuch & dracorn - thanks for all the resource links. I will take a look once I get the starter essential content sorted.

    Thanks again

Thank you Skip! That render looks amazing, we saw it earlier in the forum and loved how it looks! :)

Yes the phrase  "In addition, we have adjusted the rigging features as much as possible, so it will also work great with custom head morph shapes" is about custom faces of character. We do a rigidity weight map so it morphs better for normal human adult faces that are custom, but in child or toon heads it may need some adjustment. We added a Head size and head top morph that sometimes helps with those.

I am also having the vertices issue as KindredArts did. Has this been solved? The product works on my laptop, but would like to solve this issue with vertices on the main machine. If it was solved could you post the fix?  Thanks!

Vertices issue comes up if you try to apply the obj to head via morphloader. It is not done that way (OneClick applies the morph to the entire figure based on a script).

So, in short, there is no vertices issue unless you are using manual morph loading.

Hi EmmaAndJordi. Yes it is a misunderstanding. I was drawn in by statements like "In addition, we have adjusted the rigging features as much as possible, so it will also work great with custom head morph shapes." and "Other Shapes Supported by Auto-follow."  I was under the impresion it wouldn't blow up like it did. Then the "technical" support person said just fiddle the morph dial for a "perfect fit" which I think was a misunderstanding all by itself.

I exported it as an .obj then reimported it and transfer tooled it as an auto-fit wearable, saved it out, then ran sed on the posing morph files to retarget them to my saved version. So it's working good for me with odball characters, I just wish I could share the fix. Maybe I'll write a tutorial xD (I did have to reset the headband morph so it's range is -1 to 0, because I saved it with the headband deployed, and for some reason it didn't fit right if I went the proper direction with it. Go figure.)

It's good hair! I just didn't expect to have such a problem with it.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Skip

P.S. I orginally jumped on getting the hair because it was pig tails that would fit easily into a helmet. And since I've got, and am very happy with your Librarian Updo, I figured it was a good buy. It was. Thanks. (It is a little wonky around the neck, but that's common with anything fit to the growing up morphs)

The "Visually Similar results"  produced Several Ann Hathaway images, Some Kim kardashian pics,Multiple Katy Perry pics,
A few Cher Bono pics,  at least 2 Leah Michelle pics
even a Jennifer connely as well as many other totally irrelevant images.

Actually, out of all those listed, I can see Jennifer Connely...

Did you move the bottle from its loading spot before making the morph?

It's where deformers are less fussy, they just stay where they are generated.

And I keep meaning to ask... I forgot where your cute not-a-dino-not-yet-a-bird model (can't spell the Latin name right now) comes from?

  • A simple save and organize character utility?

Someone might have already done this.  But, here's what I'd like.

I make a lot of characters from various merchant resources and my own photo textures...etc.  When I make these characters, I end up grabbing from various folders where the pieces were generated when I import them into Daz.  I know that Daz can make a lot of cool presets from these items by saving them as a character, material asset, morph asset, etc.

What I'd like is a "save as package" command that would automatically make copies of all (and only) the resources used in my finished character, and place them in a finished package folder with that character's info along with my artist info, copyright..etc.  This would be great for both backing up my finished characters and creating distribution packages for sale.  The idea is that then I can transfer them back and forth between computers without needing to have the same asset folders on both machines.  The character package would be complete unto itself in the same way that Daz Store distributes a character.

I looked at "Content Assist."  But, it seems more geared to taking existing packages and pushing them through DIM.  I want something that takes all the character and material info from the scene and copies and packages it into a new complete item.

Is there something already available like this?  Or, does Daz already perform this function and I'm not seeing it?

    Thanks for any help!

  • G3...V7...Karen 7...Bethany 7....????

Only things it may cause difference , when you  use "restore figure"..  it usually return the character preset, shape which you load.and start scene.

and your figure name (labelled name) on scene tab, may change by each character name.

but if you apply character preset,, about current loaded  figure,  the restore figure not work applied character , may return  load (start) character shape (I do not confirm though) (though  I can not find any clear document about those things, in daz document )

but I recommend,, and I like your way,,   keep start with genesis3. it make morph or mix character more clear and easy for me.

    (but , daz release many character already,, as individual character,  ,, then I understand,,DAZ  hope to treat them  as individual character ^^;;

if I  bought character, and there is no character preset,, I may be disapointed,,, .but I seldom use character preset.

  • where the dualquatethingie tools in ds4.9?

You need a weight-mapped figure, then in Toll Settings with the Node Weight aint Brush Tool active set the Geenral Weigth Mode to Dual Quaternion. There aren't any "tools" as such, it's an option to control how the mesh will respond to bending.

Tysmiley  i want to use the dual thing on my dragon wings.
want the wings to act more like a wind sail than terrordactal wings.

how do you attach a jcm morph to a rotation dial?
the old poser days would slave both to a pose control erc.  not very helpful when animating.

  • Infinite Insanity - There's ALWAYS Another Sale! (Daily Sale Talk)

Heh... so I'm not as hooked as the rest of you... but have nowhere near as much willpower as Diva... :)
By the way, Diva... I picked up the GenX stuff during the Thanksgiving sales. I think with stacking and everything the main engine got down around $11... and I'd been watching it for a while... my total cart was a little spendy that day... but Gen X is a lot of value for the buck... if you see it in that area... pounce. :)
You can always add the various other packages later as you need them and if they are on sale. That is what I did for the G3 plugin... First I learned how to do transfer from Gen 1 to Gen 2... I still don't have several of the expansion modules.

Wow, you got it down that low!? NICE! :) I think my main issue is that I'm worried about getting the "main engine"/first product by itself when it's the only one on sale or the only one deeply discounted, but that I won't be able to afford the other 2. I really don't need the first or even the first and second ones by themselves - but I need all three in order to transfer to G3. As I don't have a desire to move V4 to Genesis 1 (since I don't use Genesis 1) or Genesis 2 (because I'm trying to transfer my characters to Genesis 3). So just getting the first one or the first and second one doesn't help me and it's a lot of money to buy the first and/or the first and second and hope that the third goes on a deep discount sale eventually too. All three together are expensive and what happens if it doesn't go on sale for a LONG time, or if another less expensive product that can do the same thing comes out while I'm waiting to be able to finally acquire all three products. Ahhhhhh lol

So that's why I'm trying to wait until all three are on a deep discount sale together.

It would be cool if he would bundle the three products up together and sell them as a bundle - as those are less expensive than buying all the products separately. And since you NEED all three in order to transfer to G3, it would make sense to sell them in a bundle. :)

  • Robot cyborg with lip sync

    Hello,

I do have an idea that could work for you, I'll try not to over complicate the description.

The 1st thing I would do is go ahead and load Michael 4 in Mimic and create your the pose/animation file you'd like to use on the cyborg.

As you know Mimic will add subtle head and neck movements to your file (these motions can be also be disabled) as well as blinking and eyebrow motions to add realism to the animation.

The cyborg doesn't seem to have any of those morphs on the human face so they won't be much help.. but the cyborg will use the head and neck movements.

The next thing I'd do is load the cyborg figure in Poser or Daz Studio, hopefully Poser since that is program I'm familiar with and can be more help with.

Once the cyborg is loaded the next step is to load the Michael 4 figure as well, when he is finished loading you can start making Michael 4's body parts

invisible, I normally just click on each body part and turn off the visibility of that part until the only part of Michael 4 the can be seen on the screen is his head.

Then select the cyborg's "human face" and make it invisible as well, now select Michael 4's head and parent it to the cyborg's head, at this point I would usually

check to make sure Michael 4's head is parented correctly by selecting the cyborg's neck 1st and use the bend morph and twist morph to make sure Michael 4's

head moves properly when you bend and twist the cyborg's neck, if it's working right the next thing I'd do is select the cyborg's head and use the bend and twist

morphs again.. if Michael 4's head is moving with the bend and twist motion of the cyborg's head then it's safe to say it's parented correctly! :-)

The next thing to do is apply the Mimic pose/animation you created to the cyborg 1st, then apply the Mimic pose to Michael 4's head.

Now I'd check to see if everything is moving properly by clicking the "play" button in Poser..  If your Mimic pose/animation had the head and neck movements enabled there might be some unwanted movement because Michael 4's head is parented to the cyborg's head, if this happens there are several ways to fix this issue..

The 1st way  is to change the parent of Michael 4's head from the cyborg's head to the cyborg's chest.  Mimic's poses/animations don't add movement to a figures chest just the neck and head so that should fix the issue with movements not being in sync.

An alternate way to fix the movement issue would be to open the Animation Palette (in Poser) and select Michael 4's neck and delete the key frames for BEND, TWIST AND SIDE-SIDE, then select Michael 4's head and delete the key frames for BEND, TWIST AND SIDE-SIDE, that should also fix the issue.

Now you can click play again to make sure everything looks good and moves correctly, if your happy with the outcome go ahead and render that baby!!

I apologize for how lengthy this is but I wanted to be as specific about the process as I possibly could be.

I hope you like my idea and find it useful, it's the only way I could think of to do what you are trying to achieve.

If you need help with anything please don't hesitate to let me know, I am happy to help in any way that I can. :-)

  • GenX problem ...

Oops, yeah I was looking at the location my where my saved scenes are stored. Sorry about that. I did find a data folder in the preset folder you mentioned and I set it up to transfer as I left for work this morning. I will veriy that the files are properly moved when I get back to my room tonight. The current set up was done by my brother when I first switched over to studio about 18 months ago and I haven't messed with it. I am more familiar with Poser runtimes the the daz contet structure. I can tell you that while I do download my files I do not alter any of the main folders, all my changes are inside the folders, For example inside People/Genesis 2 female/clothing I have subfolders for dresses, shoes, sci-fi and such.

I hope I am not coming off as dragging my feet or appearing to be unappreciative, I am very thankful that you are willing to assist me. I can take a screen shot of something if it will help find a way to fix this. I can provide a screenshot of my content folder set up when I get back to my room.

What I was saying about conviluted was that it does the E:/Users/Clone99/Documents/DAZ 3D/My Library instead of a simple E:/Content. I was a Poser user for many years so I am very careful about making sure I don't upset required folder placement and mirror the way DIM installs content, but I understand your being worried about making suggestions.

I will post an update onne I get to my room after work.

I really do appreciate all the assistance Lindsey, you are giving me avenues to try that I wouldn't have normally understood or thought of.

  • combining my animations into one project?

"I created a character and then started making various animations for her which I render out as image frames. Each time I created an animation i was happy with i would save a project file for it, clear the animation and start work on the next one (I was concerned about accidently corrupting a previous animation whilst working on a new one)

Now that I'm done I sort of regret my choice because I have a decent amount of animations and some are quite long. I would like them all in one project so I can start a render and then go out, go to bed, whatever and let it finish automatically. So I exported all my animations as bhv files thinking no problem,"

Hi as  kitakoredaz suggested the best solution is to save each figure animation as an animated pose preset.
This will even store facial and morph animation
I do this with Nude base resolution figures for better view port performance

You can then load your fully dressed figure and apply the animated pose files from your library one after another until they are all applied in the scene.
This is definately the best solution for Genesis 3, as zaz777, Stated  G3 will not accept her own BVH files exported from Daz studio or even Iclone.

  • 3D Rigging? WeightMapping?

If there is more smart way than Arren suggested,  (which can fit about all situation,  fool pose , zero pose,, fit to Actor or without Actor),  I really apreciate,

but to be frankly said,  I can  not believe it.smiley   without make the high heel as geo graft item, and hide foot.  when fit to.

if you  just color  weight map more weak,  and adjust  shoes not bend much,, . maybe abouot some stuff it work well, but it means,, the weight map of the shoes not

much as same as genesis3 foot.  after all, with posing more,  , it show more clear defomation.

the more weight map close to genesis3 foot, the more the shoes are bend along to genesis 3 foot.  then your shoes deform much with zero pose. but it is correct.. the shoes actually bend along to the genesis3 foot. then can fit genesis3female with fit pose.. and the shape (fit pose) is best shape of the shoes(high heel)

. after all,, we need to choose when High heel show best shape with  Actor.

you can  reduce problem by weight map, or adding another moprh too.   but to show good shape of shoes with  zero pose,, adding  another corrective morphs ,  make things  more complex.

(usually it just work well with current pose) ,then if you make such morph  for genesis3female base,, you must need to make for all character , without it,, the shoes never keep good rigid shape for zero pose and fit pose.)

Did you use the iray smart converter for that image? This one: http://www.daz3d.com/iray-smart-converter-and-advanced-skin-managers-for-genesis-2 ?

Cos that is fantastic!!!!! I love it!

I had a go at it. I threw this together very quickly. I think that Iray Smart Converter and/or NGS could achieve good enough looking skin. But the real key is getting the lighting right. My light is not as warm, and it is likely that some bloom was used in the original pic. I had a point light on one side and a regular light in front and above.

You"ve  come pretty damn close to achieving the look.
I think you're right that it isn't so much tweaking of dials, but rather understanding lighting and the basics, for which there isn't always a one click solution to.  Those that develop that eye for such details will be the ones who consistently attain that high quality in their work, and not everyone has that patience or committment.

Yeah. I don't doubt that the original pic had carefully crafted skin settings, but I have a feeling that those settings aren't far off from what Iray Smart Converter offers. I chose the 3rd setting for Caucasian skin. The only changes I made were to the eyes. I changed the PBR from "Roughness" to "Glossiness" for the Cornea, Eye Reflection, Iris, and Pupil. I also set the Glossy Weight of the Iris and Pupil to 0. And that was it, this pic is basically Iray Smart Converter out of the box, and it only has 2 light sources. (That's why I pimp ISC at almost every opportunity, Kyoto!) I set the Cornea Bulge morph at 1.5, which allows the light to catch the cornea better (a tip I read here a while back.)

I'm pretty guilty of not messing with lights too much. Its one thing I need to get better at. Part of it is that my gpu is bit limited, so I avoid doing too much with a 3d environment around. In this picture, my background in just a flat plane primitive with a stone shader on it. Since I planned on it being out of focus, I didn't put much into it. I have a feeling that the original pic did something very similar to disguise his background. All in all, I think this pic took about 30 minutes to render on my four year old 670 2gb, which is pretty good. If I had a "real" background, it would have taken much longer.

Another note, poor Belle is still in a T pose! The only posing I did was on her eyes, LOL.
