  • Morph3D vs Unity asset store- big price differences

I was curious about Morph3D. I'm on the mailing list and picked up the the lite versions of the basic characters when they came out. I was looking at the full versions of the male and female characters. They are $50 in the Morph 3D store but $10 in the Unity store. Are these the same sets or am I missing something here? Just wondering. I'm not ready to plunge into this side of things, still getting a handle on DAZ. I know the Unity market is very competitive, it just seemed strange to see such a price difference between the stores.

    Put in support tickets.  https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

It can be a common problem with custom sculpted morphs, if care is not taken when finishing the final steps, before saving the morph.  And no, it's not really fixable,

Figure...the base model.  (Genesis 3, Genesis 2, Genesis)

  • Help Requested With G3F Export to IC6

are you using the release build or the beta?

I am not sure they fixed it in the general release, the FBX dll for DAZ studio

if you install the beta it will not overwite the general release and you can copy paste the dll in plugins

Argh!  That bugger DID make a point of saying "use the BETA."  If this works I'll get a tattoo of your avatar.  I'll be back.

    ...............................................................................

    [later]

Well THAT sure makes a difference!  There is the business of the shrunken teeth, and the configuring of the export rules so as not to export the same morph twice, but I believe these can be managed.  As the character needs to be re-exported every time it changes clothes, I just couldn't see assigning all these morphs manually.  But as a plain spoken man in a marketing world, I assumed the fault was mine.  For me this has been a day well spent.  Now I'm going to be busy for a while.

    Thanks.

Tried to export and it crashed again, this time it seemed to delete the figures torso, head and legs in the process. Morph loader pro said some of the data couldnt be used or something.EDIT: I think this was cause I had a geograph on. Be sure to not do that :)

I've literally tried about 50 times now, with about 30+ different pictures to get different results. I get what it is trying to do(and its limitations) but the results are always pretty much the same. I'm judging just the morphing bit, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Feels like it needs a few more control points, even if its meant to be for "casuals". And my expectations aren't super high, because I know this is mean to be a simple tool. But its very picky about pictures, even the slightest angle to the head will result in crazy picasso inspired results. Even with a perfect picture it doesn't seem to mimic the source much.

Misty been busy... deserves a break for a chocolate martini.

    Jaaa  smiley tee hee

only 4.5 hours sleep last night.  watched a 6 part series in character rigging, terrible sound quality, and then there were major bending issues.

then watched more scifi funk nla stuff.
seems to me to be more complicated to edit nla than key frames, dunno.
but if i was done with keyframing, converting to nla,
seems to make for a smoother process. if i keep the
original keyframing to edit if needed.

    phonems, visemes, >.<

    some sleep deprived rambling-
watched a tutt of someone exporting g3 from ds to unity via fbx. the rigging didn't go over. they used a mixamo(?) human rig.  don't see how that would help with the facial rigging.

only process seems to maintain rigging is via colladae.  wouldn't want to fix the rigging every time i exported a g3 character.  if it could be transferred to every g3 character i exported via colladae, wouldn't be so bad. i guess.
but the rigging has to be detached to make that first all in one morph zone ... i think.
then G3 expressions and visemes are all via the facial rigging, so don't need morphs?
    breathing with chest rigging?
    all seems so terribly complex

  • Selbsthilfegruppe DAZ Studio - Beispiele, Fragen, Diskussion und sonstiges Gequatsche

    Hi Leute,

  • The Comprehensive Guide to Rigging Tools

I noticed this product in the store: The Comprehensive Guide to Rigging Tools ( http://www.daz3d.com/the-comprehensive-guide-to-rigging-tools-in-daz-studio ).

Does anybody know how much of it might will apply to version 4.8 (since it is intended for 4.9)?  I'm not sure how extensively the covered items might have changed between the two versions.

For anybody who has purchased it, general thoughts/reviews?

If you are using 4.8 it means you will not have a few features, but most of the guide should apply.
If I recall, 4.8 does not have the "Morph Editing" available in the Geometry Editor tool.

Most of the time however your experience should be fine. If you cannot find an option written in the guide, it just means 4.8 might not have it, but the versions are very similar. The tools and options are called the same.

  • Hair style & choker request

Sorry for the delay... I was busy Thanksgiving then I've been working on some morphs for the bangs (I'm making seperate morphs for the bangs and the rest of the hair so users have more control over what the style and movement will be)... Progress is slow because I grouped each hair "strand" individually (in my modeling program, the hair in Daz will not have that many groups) so I'd have more control over which strands and parts I was moving. I have only made about 6 morphs so far just as a type of sample to show you guys so you can give me feedback on whether you like the "style" of morphs I'm doing. I am doing it this way because there are many ways to morph hair and some ways work while others don't, so I am giving you guys control over whether you want a specific style or not.

So I will be posting samples of some of the morphs and then I will give a day or so for you guys to tell me whether you like it or not, if you do like it you can tell me what specifically you like and I will incorporate that into future morphs. If you don't like it, tell me what you don't like about it and I will re-do that particullar morph, while avoiding using the same looks that you didn't like. I hope that wasn't too confusing lol. (I will also be using other colors to show you what colors will be available. If you have a request on a specific hair color or color style (ombre, highlights, etc) then let me know).

Here's the first one (Bangs longer on the sides and slightly parted in the middle):

  • Create your own "Expand All"?

    This is odd...

I was going to go through and show how with a pair of shoes I'd been meaning to rig for a while, but using the Transfer utility (they are 'sneakers' and flats, so it doesn't mess them up),  I automatically ended up with an Expand All morph.  I'm guessing that the shoes in question were rigged manually/with Figure Setup tools.

But, one way to do it is to export each shoe (if it is a pair of separate shoes) or both (if not separated) as an obj, take them into a modeler and just scale them up a tiny bit.  Then save/export back out of the modeler and import them as morphs with Morph Loader.  To be successful they need to be at Base Resolution and every thing else needs to be hidden.

  • Show Us Your Iray Renders. Part V

My toony character continues, at this point she's only custom morphing and merchant resources which is exciting. Also exciting his how solidly sitting she looks on the furniture, I used d-formers, also used them on the hair to move it out of the way of the eye. Would it probably have been easier to export to blender and morph there? yes. But there's something satisfying about working out problems all in DS.

Initially The scene was a pretty basic pinup, and the figure was looking at the camera, then I stuck in the mirror and thought "hey she could be looking at the camera via the mirror, wouldn't that be fun"
getting all the angles right was... so much little fiddling, and I dont have a computer where I can move the body via active pose, and have the aux viewport running, so lots of tweaking and then test rendering.

Also, horribly unoptomised lighting setup,  more than a third of the figure is relying on light bouncing off the walls to get any illumination. You see that yellow light on the wall? theres a point light in the lamp for any of that light to escape it has to pass through a material with refraction and SSS. Why do I do this to myself?

  • HeadShop OneClick Submitted to DAZ - Best in Class! (Commercial)

Well I bought it and have noticed that the results aren't as accurate as FaceGen Artist Pro. They can be but the developer needs to caculate many, many, many more points of data on the face to get an accurate morph of the person in the picture.

I'm not going to ask for a refund because I believe the developer can improve the product but it basically needs fixed to work with Genesis 3 and to use many more data points to create the morph. And the crashes on exiting need to be fixed and a lot of other crash bugs & exceptions. And to be far, I need to test the product with professional pictures although FaceGen Artist Pro seemed to handle my pictures OK. OneClick is still a big improvement of earlier verions of FaceShop/HeadShop that I had.

    From left to right:

    a. 25 year old ID used to make morph with FaceGen Pro & Genesis 3

    b. Front & Profile pictures taken today with my iPhone used to make morph with FaceGen Pro & Genesis 3

    c. Same Front & Profile pictures take today but used OneClick & Genesis 2 to make the morph.

I could not get a good morph that the face fit properly to the head using OneClick & Genesis 3.

So all in all, close but OneClick needs more work.

  • Kit-bashing and other esoteric stuff

Okay, if you want to fit V4 to Genesis 2 Female you should consider getting this product:

    http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female

It will not only let you autofit V4 clothes directly to G3F, but contains the UV's for V4. This means you will be able to use V4 textures on G2F. (It also comes with a morph shape for the stock V4 character, so you can make G2F's proportions looks more like V4's. It will NOT allow you to transfer any morphs from V4 characters to G2F). There is a separate product that does the same deal for M4 to Genesis 2 Male. You don't have to go through any of this if you want to just use Genesis, but you didn't mention Genesis in your query.

Regarding kitbashing, your understanding is right. You are basically choosing to apply different elements from different clothing/prop sets to your character. You could use, say, the M4 bodysuit as the base, some of JoeQuick's free sci-fi armor over that, and then top it off with some G2 helmet/visor combinations. I would go a step further and customize the existing textures so that the color schemes are pleasing to me and the final result doesn't look slapped-together from spare parts.

For certain things, like helmets, belts, capes, or hair, I would rather load them without my figure selected and then parent them to the appropriate body part of the figure. Sometimes these things distort and look rubbery when autofit. Shoes tend to fit OK if they are flat-soled as a rule but heeled shoes/boots do not. Incidentially, by using parenting you should be able to use any hair product on any figure to an acceptable degree.

Kitbashing could also refer to taking the textures from one character and applying them to a differen character's morph. I do this a lot, taking M4 and V4 textures (usually by MortemVetus or P3Design) and applying them to Genesis 2 characters.

I've fitted M4 outfits to G2Male, saved the outfit as a "wearable" for G2M and then used that outfit on G3Male. About 75% it works very well. Shirt collars tend to deform, and sometimes the crotches of  pants do, too. It also depends on the poses you put your character through. Weirdly enough, I've sometimes been happier with the way the M4 clothes fit G2M than on the original M4 figure!

  • Rigging Window Blinds?

    Hi All, smiley

Well, I spent two days trying to make an animation-rig so the blinds would stack at the bottom as they're raised, with the slats above remaining in place until lifted ... and Thomas spent several days trying to do that for me, and we never did get it quite right. So I went with the simpler rig: as the blinds are raised, the footer and slats raise proportionally to their final positions.

That's how they would have worked had I done the Lower-Raise control as a Morph, however the time spent rigging then was not wasted. Because they're a rigged figure, I could do this ...

... posing the blinds as if a character were using his/her fingers to separate those two blinds and peek out between them.

Had I used Morphs, a user would have had to export the blinds and make another Morph for that "peek out" pose. Because they're a rigged figure, I did that in about 4 minutes: zero the Open-Close rotation for Slat9 and Slat10, Raise Slat9 by 2cm, Z-Rotate Slat9 by -0.75 degrees, and Z-Rotate Slat10 by 0.5 degrees. Yes, in order to make that pose, a user must know how to access Hidden Properties (for the Z-rotation). But that's a whole lot easier to learn than Morph-making ... so I'm happy.

Thank you all for your help, and a big public Thank You to Thomas, who really tried on the animation-stack-rigging. I'm sure that's doable. I'm also pretty sure that, as Thomas said in PM, "It seems to be more trouble than it's worth."

  • Legally exporting .dsf's

I'm currently interested in using a few morph's I bought from the shop on different versions of the Genesis models (i.e., Gen 1 Male arm length morph applied to Gen 2 Male, or Gen 3 Male Shin height morph to Gen 2 Female).

It looks doable if I write a script to change all of the file references (from 1 to 2 or 3 to 2, i.e.) to match what I want to do, but I don't know if it's...

    A. Violating any part of DAZ's TOS?

    B. going to work (or if there's an easier way)?

Does anyone have any experience with this or something similar?
