Classic Trenchcoat for Genesis 3 Male(s)

This is an interesting set. At first, I didn't even realize the trenchcoat came with pants, shirt, and shoes. The pants look realistic to me. Is that even a bit of tightness across the glutes at the bottom of the pockets, or is that a texture issue? I like these pants. The only thing is, the belt is part of the pants and not loaded separately. I can hide it with the Surfaces pane, but there is no waistband under it, so it leaves holes at the top of the pants. The only morph is Loosen Fit.

It's fair to inform people about the difficulties with doing various things. I'm thinking of doing some of this stuff, too, and... some of it is pretty hard.

Like 'lobster claws geograft'... that's a great idea, except that a geograft needs to have the same mesh as whatever it's replacing. So then you have the issue of... if you stretch a hand into a lobster claw, you have to make sure people don't try to pose it or shards of the claw are going to go all over the place.

Hmm. Maybe it should be a 'glove'? I think there's this Plant man model that uses this approach, because the head is just too weirdly different.

Or the Dragon... I've seen some really interesting, creative distortions of the dragon, but then you get UV weirdness. Particularly in the back of the neck.

At least in my early poking around, it actually seems easier to make a whole new creature than to make some of these changes to an existing model.

A GeoGraft is not like a morph - it needs to share the ring of vertices around any welded areas (presumably at the wrists or forearms here) but can then do what it likes, and can have unique bones of its own.

  • Strange NLA Track problem

This Konrad morph seems to be for DAZ Studio users only. I just wanted to create an Alembic file via Octane for a cloth simulation in Houdini. Big FAIL! Throws me an error right away. All other Genesis figures are working like a charm! If you use Carrara, don't buy 3d universe stuff devil

    I'll keep trying!

  • can you convert dynamic clothing into conforming clothing?

Hide everything but the dynamic clothing, export as OBJ, import using the same preset (to keep the scale correct) and rig using the transfer utility. For best results work with the figure zeroed (no pose or morph applied) though it is possible to compensate for those.

A quick note on opening newspapers.

I'm going to make one, but I haven't decided how to go about it yet. A morph is the easiest way, but the problem with any morph which rotates the object is that it only looks good at 100%. So I may end up with a 2-piece prop instead.

Well, I finally found the search tab, located on a drop down tab. I tried transferring Belle 6 to G3F. But when I attempted the transfer, I got a new error:

After Applying shapes to the target... it says "Error loading clone morph for joint adjustment".

And it just stopped after that, with no indicator of finishing or failing.

    Yes, I agree with carrie58.

I have found that 50% is the absolute limit you can take the 3DU Toon Generations 2 slider too and not absolutely loose almost all the morphs of your original character. I found that for like FaceGen Artist Pro and other morphs 25% - 33% works best with TG2 and then you can use the G3M / G3F Face and Body morphs to dial in more toon exaggerations that suit your character better so they all don't look alike. And of course it helps if you have the Guy 7/Girl 7 and Aiko 7/Kenji 7 and Star 2 characters all available to add more toon style exagerations to the mix for you too choose from.

Thanks, nonesuch00. And thanks too, Carrie58.  I'll try your suggestions.  I'm quite sure I have the Toon morph at a lot more than 50%.

The list only shows the actors with morphs. The basic Michael 4 CR2 contains only head morphs. You need to inject the morphs you want to transfer using the according morph injection poses. Or you load Michael 4 in Poser, inject all the morphs, and save it to the library as a new CR2 with all morphs.

The "Some morphs were not found in the figure." warning is from the "Get Values from Figure in Scene" feature. The message means, that GenX has morphs listed that it could not find in the figure in the scene, not the other way around. This should not happen if you load the same figure in GenX and in the scene.

To load a Genesis figure as source in GenX, you select it directly from the "Source" button. Unlike Poser figures, you don't have to locate them in the library, and you can't inject morphs. This is all handled automatically.

After loading a figure, selecting the morph in the morph list is the simplest way to transfer it. Use the search feature if you are not sure for which bone it is listed.

I love the looks of Mari!  She looks good both with Genevieve 7 and without.  I don't have Genevieve 7 either so it's nice to see an image of what she looks like without her!  She's beautiful!

Yeah, I think he should definitely include in the promo images a render or two of her without the Genevieve 7 morph. I think a lot of people don't have Genevieve 7, so I think it will help some people decide to get her even though they don't have Genevieve.

    I've never used Connect.

It doesn't matter how I try to load the figure to transfer, whether it is the figure in the scene, or by drag and dropping morph injections, it always says "Some morphs were not found in the figure." Even though I have two locations for the morph to be found. Sometimes the height might change if figures are different heights, and that's all the plugin transfers. I've tried a lot of characters, whether it is a base figure or a figure that uses some morphs added in. I've also created some morphs in Hexagon, and saved those morphs as a user preset. These do not transfer, either.

I don't know where the search function is. I don't see it.

  • Preset Cleaner for Daz Studio

Remember it does not split the actual morphs, or indeed create any new morphs at all, it is about editing a preset that uses the morphs. So if a preset sets both a face and a body morph, you can create a new preset that only does one of these.

  • Critters and beasties?

Dracolossus/Deep Sea Dragon weren't instant purchases for me, because they were bulkier body designs than my projects tend to require. More smoother or streamlined versions would have been better. Of course, I can't speak for what others use them for, just my own stuff.

Perhaps something modelled on the giant squid, except with mouths or beaks on the end of each arm? Squid arms are particularly interesting, because they not only have conventional suckers, but a vicious ice pick-like talon in the centre of each sucker. Give it an additional Iray texture for a more glistening appearance and you could portray it submerged in something slimy living in caves.

Perhaps a modern, Iray-compatible, fantasy arachnid. Model it on a funnel-web, like the LOTR team did for the live-action Shelob design. Or, alternatively, an extraterrestrial take on them, as per 2001's 'Arachnid' film:

    https://horrorpediadotcom.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/giantarachnid.jpg
    http://kaiju.wdfiles.com/local--files/wiki:arachnid/arachnid_2001_01.jpg

Ever since I first saw the recent Daz Dragon 3 figure, I also visualised it with a proper shark's head. Looked very cool in my mind and nobody's yet done a streamlined shark-themed creature morph for that. Great White Dragon 3 could be a seriously impressive creation with Iray technology. Then people could use the various different available pose sets for it.

I'd also really like something like a tailed, four-limbed humanoid with an insectoid head and Predator-like mandibles. Something you could picture leaping out of the trees, abducting victims and then tearing them to pieces up high in the branches. I love insectoid-looking head designs with intricate functional jaws.

Maybe some bio-technological-looking weapons, like the tyranids have in the 'Warhammer' games? You could probably make all manner of animalistic things with moving legs and then try to adapt them into a blade or barrel with a trigger and sight. One could imagine a futuristic setting being good for those, but also maybe a fantasy world where one race has adapted the liffe around them to serve as weapons - or perhaps simply tools.

There was also a UK TV show, back in the 1980s, titled 'Knightmare', which was very sword-and-sorcery. Everyone who watched it remembers the 'Catacombite', which was basically an ape-like skull with bones to make it move in a spider-like way:

    http://interactive.knightmare.org.uk/component/legacy/page/display/lexicon?s=view&EID=catacombite

In regards to bones, this artist makes some very impressive fantasy-themed creations out of them, which might inspire you:

    http://forgottenboneyard.com/index.php/gallery-2/

Would also be really nice to have some geografted pincers and claws, so that we could make human figures look like they're hybrid experiments.

I cannot transfer Genesis 2 to 3 at all now. I can transfer V/M4 and G1 to G2 or 3, but nothing else. I have 2 libraries for morph locations that have been built up over time, due to how some things install in public docs vs user docs. All my characters are on Drive C with the Daz install. What do I need to do to get GenX to find these morphs? I prefer to have my stuff in the user docs, I manually install most of my stuff there.

Will moving all my morphs to one place mess with any scenes that use those morphs?

Now there is something which would be great: Make a Kirin with a toon morph, so that it can be used in realistic fantasy as well as in mangas or toon worlds. Rigging would be the same. Yes, I know, skin differs deeply, much work, but then, it would be versatile.

  • The History of Carrara

    Dart,

I agree with you, us Carrara PA are here to make things easier for the community and at the same time help promote Carrara. This in turn will help drive up sales and this will help with the Development of Carrara.

Like you mention Carrara has plenty of powerful features that allow users from hobbyists to Professionals created amazing images, animations etc.

Here is my suggestions to DAZ 3D:

Make Carrara the DAZ 3D all in one solutions for Content Development.
This means don't just make it load and animate DAZ 3D figures such as Victoria but develop Carrara so that any user can create a Victoria in Carrara. From modeling, rigging, texturing, morph creating... everything.
This means put all of Hexagon in Carrara and all of the DAZ Studio features in Carrara.
Improved the 3D Painting to the level that PA will use it.
Let all PA learn and use Carrara for Content development.
Promote Carrara in other venues that will bring in more high-end users that will also create more content.
It would be a win win for DAZ 3D and the community.

    Ringo Monfort

There's just one itsy-bitsy gigantically huge problem with this ideal. The spin is somewhat of a lie. It is my opinion that the people behind the scenes at Daz dont actually use the software they sell, aside from Daz Studio.

Why should Daz expect people to build content in Carrara when they themselves don't even use Carrara for building content? Was Genesis modeled in Hexagon or Carrara? Nope. Have ANY of the figures sold here been created in Carrara or Hexagon? Do you ever see Carrara landscapes or Bryce landscapes rendered by any of the Daz staff other than moderators who arent even staff members? Even when they have the preview threads about new characters in the Commons or Members Only, do you often see sample renders made in Bryce or in Hexagon? No. Do you see Daz making an effort to promote PA's who actively utilize Daz software for making content? No. Does Stonemason use Carrara for his models....doubt it. Does Mec4D use any Daz software for creating her amazing content? Probably not. In fact, can anyone name a single PA who exclusively uses Daz3d applications solely for creating content that will eventually be sold?

We the community members are the only ones using these applications. It would not surprise me if many of the executives haven't ever opened Bryce or Hexagon scenes. Have never ever ever used Carrara.

Many of these people have formal training and in school they dont teach Carrara, they teach Maya, Lightwave etc.....

Lack of development tells me all I need to know about how often they themselves choose their own applications for accomplishing real work. Let's be honest, if you use Carrara every day then the bugs will annoy you and you will want to fix them. Lack of cloth in Carrara would annoy you too. Lack of genuine Genesis support would truly annoy you.

If you use Bryce you know how badly it needs to be 64 bit. You know how badly it needs another development cycle to fix the yet underdeveloped instancing and broken tree mesh export. Hexagon could use some major stability upgrades. If you used these applications often enough, you would know quite well what is needed to improve the applications. And again I state the annoyance one would experience from regular use of the applications would be catalyzing enough that development would never cease as it tends to do around here.

It seems to me the only real requirement for working at Daz3d is that you familiarize yourself with Daz Studio. Period. The others are optional. That is a very big problem.

I conclude by reiterating that what Daz has yet to do is to PROVE that Carrara really can be the all in one solution. They're all such experts with Cinema 4D, Maya, Lightwave, 3DSMax, you name it and they use it. But many of them know next to nothing about using any of the daz software aside from Daz Studio itself .

I hope I am wrong about this, I just doubt it very much. This is the Daz Studio show, the rest of the applications are supporting cast members at best. There is nothing wrong with that, so long as we all know what we are really dealing with here.

Moderators: If this post is offensive or breaks TOS rules in any way please let me know and I will remove it promptly.

You just summed up why Carrara and Bryce are dead, Daz Studio is their focus now

I disagree with the whole negativity scene here.

Why should Daz3d be expected to use Carrara or Bryce or Hexagon in order to make their figures and other products just because they bought the rites to, and now sell the software - especially when they NEVER make such demands on anyone else?

Modo is an amazing modeler and is at the height of development for this type of software, which is their forte - it's what they do.

Daz3d are content developers whom have developed their own counter-monopoly to Poser. They have some amazing development staff working on Daz Studio, which is their baby. All of the others they've either bought and now continue to keep from disappearing in the void - so folks who like it can still use it, or are in their store as a service to the authors, like Project Dogwaffle. Sears make their own tools, but are not restricted to selling only that which they produce.

Ringo and I (and others) creating Carrara-specific products to cater to and support Carrara users is our own way of supporting Carrara as Daz3d artists, which is what we were talking about.

Yes, Daz3d has constant, active developmment on their Daz Studio. They know where they want to go with their figure technology and they are constantly pushing to make their new figures and their Studio the best that they can be, but NEVER tell people which software they have to use - EVER.

I know that there are people at Daz3d whom use Carrara and love it - and they also buy products from us Carrara-specific PAs because they like what we make for it. That, in no way, should force the to use the software for anything they don't want to use it for - same with any other software user.

There's a HitFilm behind the scenes video showing one of their production being edited in a different editor than HitFilm! That's a bit different case than what we have here!

...and I don't understand how anyone can consider that Carrara or Bryce are dead just because there doesn't appear to be any active development. Take a look at either forum. Do they look dead to you? They sure don't look dead to me. Underdeveloped? Yeah... I'd love to see Bryce users get updated to 64 bit and some other modern upgrades. I'd love to see some development done to Carara - but I'm in no hurry for it.

I open Carrara and do things with it that I cannot get very far with in the constantly developed Daz Studio and Poser, and absolutely love the time I have doing it. So it surely isn't dead to me!

  • Saving morph for selling character

So then, if I make a morph mix from licensed character products that I own like Karen, Aiko and Josie, my collaborator on the other coast, who only owns Karen, will not be able to use this same preset for the next page of our novel because it cannot be brought up identically on her computer unless she has those exact same products.....   is that correct?

That is how it works.  The preset notes the morphs used and the values,  but the morphs themselves are in the individual  packages purchased.  You and your other coast buddy  have to purchase them on all the user computers then the presets will work on each the same.  And for the record you don't own Karen,  you purchased a license to use the Karen character morph specific to the EULA.

  • Saving morph for selling character

need some final clarification on this thread, so from above again , I had asked this:  ".....will they have to own the exact same product license characters n order to see the same face morph I created them from ?  ...or can I simply save the resulting morph mix for the base G3 and expect it can be viewed by someone who only has G3 [but not the products I made my mix from, Karen, Josie, Aiko, et al ]? "

then from Richard H:  "  Presets are safe to share for something like this. "

but from Josh Crockett  "Note that if you are using existing morphs to create your character, that those morphs will need to be reversed out so that you are not stealing other people's work and that those morphs will also be required to make your character work correctly  "

Or, is there someway to save this morph mix into the G3 base so that she can bring up this same identical morph mix?     (again, am not a vendor making a product for sale, just trying to work with a project collaborator without duplicating all our expenses needlessly.  so I want to separate out for this discussion the legal vs the technical issues in creating and distributing a product morph mix, non commercially.   )      and thxs much for your patience....
