Vicky 8.1 University Bundle
This bundle is definitely junk. The stuff in it is great, don't get me wrong, the products themselves look great and I can see myself wanting a few of them, but the bundle? My goodness no. I mean, this is a new Vicky. She is the face of Daz. She made Daz into what it is and this is all they offer her? I mean, if I was her I'd be offended. Where's her bundle sisters? Where is her SWORD? I mean, that last statement sounds funny, but seriously, wasn't Vicky in a Cave With a Sword or whatever her defining thing? And why is she getting reruns of old products? I know Daz is especially enjoying doing this lately, but come on, this is Victoria, and all they give her is a half-hearted attempt?
Again, not talking smack about the products, the new tech that went into G8.1, or anything outside of the actual grouping of (or lack thereof) products in the bundle.

I think that the vellus hair should be included in the Victoria 8.1 set similar to the anatomical elements.
According to the marketing it should be included with the basic Gensis 8.1 female. !
Only "gripe" I'll offer.

I'm not seeing anything different .. everything is installed .. I load a standard G8 female into a scene and then G8.1 female .. I render out the G8 and then the G8.1 .. load them into a paint package and flip back and forth between them .. other than different shaped eye lashes .. the skins are identical .. ok, maybe an extra little gloss on the 8.1 lips .. but .. Should i be seeing something different besides those couple of things between G8 and G8.1???
Nope. Same mesh. Same shape. Same skin basically. You should notice that 8.1 has a second mat zone for the Torso area-- now it's Body & Head. Also, the mouth realism is amazingly improved. The expression system is also different and improved. There is a new eyelash mesh and a separate tear mesh that both step up the realism overall. The tear in particular does amazing things to the eyes in renders. There are new UVs available to use as well and are a little different on the face, neck and torso. Also the new eye UV is unified so there is no gap between the pupil and iris or the iris and sclera. The new shader that is available isn't used on G8.1 but is on Victoria 8.1 and will likely continue to be used moving forward. It was designed specifically for skin to be more in line with standard PBR shaders (as I recall).
Ha! I've been sat here for 3 hours trying to forensically determine the difference between renders .. doh!
Genesis 8.1 / Victoria 8.1lol, I don't see the problem here. I mean I really don't (aside from the new Vicky bundle, which is definitely kinda poo if you ask me (just the bundle mind you, I like the girl herself)) but this didn't break or make anything you already have junk overnight. If it was good yesterday it's still good today. You don't have to reinvest in a whole new figure, all your old stuff still works (aside from the fancy girly bits I bought from the darker site for daz stuff, but knowing Meipe there will be a fix for the script soon enough, ( oh and expressions, which the whole point of the newish figure is to improve those, so I get it)).
Daz isn't selling you the new base figure, you get it free. Don't want it? Don't get it, problem solved.
I'm not White Knighting them here either, I have a lot of issues with the way they've been doing things lately, as a lot of people do, but this one I don't take offense to, and don't really see why there's so many up in arms over it. I mean, I suppose if you actually had to buy all you old figures over again then that would be quite shady, but you don't; they work just fine. Sure there's a new Vicky, but she's most definitely NOT Victoria 8. Just like Victoria 8 wasn't Victoria 7, or 6, or ext..

A new character, with materials using the new skin shader
Overall buying V8.1 University bundle with the HD addon and two other addons comes to $75 for me even with the 20% discount for owning Dorm Room and Matilda hair. And that is a little pricey for my budget.

The clothing that is part of today's victoria bundle is working on 8.0 as well. Same applies to the vellus hair (that one needs to be auto-fitted). But unless 8.0 is explicitely stated as "compatible", its a hit or miss.
Ah fair enough! Cheers for the info

Here's the way this new upgrade should've been implemented. All the new features should be a module like, that Genesis 8, can take advantage of, without rebuying Victoria all over again. It might as well be Genesis 9. Soon we'll see Stephanie 8.1 and all the other premier character "X" 8.1 and Genesis 8 will fade away. Calling it 8.1 is just marketing making it seem "compatible." There's alot of people here, like myself, who have spent tens of thousands of dollars since genesis 2, watching each previous version's investment get flushed down the tiolet because the previous version was found wanting or lacked compatibility.
An analogy goes like this. Microsft used present different versions of Windows to its customers. Each new version replaced the previous version giving the customer new features and improved functionality and you paid for it. Those days are over with. Microsoft now makes one operating system, windows 10, and improves the same operating system with all the new features via updates, without having to buy windows all over again. This is the way Genesis 8 should be. One Genesis 8 and it improves, whilst all previous investment retains its value as opposed to a new Victoria with features that the all the previous investments cannot benefit from.
Despite my opinion, I might buy 8.1 and I might not. What I can tell you in this current moment in time, is I'm not too pleased with the latest development in its current implementation. Yes, it looks amazing and is amazing, but I shouldn't have to shell out thousands of more dollars over the course of the future rebuying the same models just so she smile with greater realism. All my library I've invested in since June 2013 should be able to use this new technology.
Agreed!

Victoria 8.1 is a new character, you wouldn't be buying her again.
The new features are part of Genesis 8.1, not Victoria.8.1. Your previous characters can benefit from the new features without spending anything.
It's not Genesis 9 because it's not a new figure, it just improves Genesis 8, all your Genesis 8 content except some expressions work on Genesis 8.1 as they always did, which seems compatible enough for me.
The way you describe it should be, is actually the way it is.
Still can't find the genesis 8.1 vellus hair described on the genesis 8.1 announcement page :-/That is because it's behind a $104 paywall, with the university bundle...

Nice upgrade. I like the new skin shader, looking forward to play around with it.
Note to the other specular rendering users out there, you need to bump up the Transmitted Measurement Distance in order to see a compatible SSS as the default if you choose to use the much more realistic specular rendering mode!

Considering all of these incompatibility quirks, I hope that content creators will continue to supply for Genesis 8, not just exclusively 8.1, for the forseeable future.
Wondering what this means for Face Transfer, as it loads up a Genesis 8 by default.
Because I've been wanting to depict a truly hermaphrodite character (a canonical one; Slaanesh, from the 'Warhammer' fandom), I'm intrigued by this: "Male anatomical elements will now work on females. Conversely, female anatomical elements will work on males." But aren't anatomical elements geografts? Wouldn't there be a visible texture seam where they attach to? Although, I suspect the scrotum wouldn't be able to be removed, which would make such an artistic exercise impossible.
Male elements do work on females (and i'd assume female will work on male when Male 8.1 arrives).
As it's basically just an alternative geograph, if textures are made specifically for male genitals on female then there won't be a seam any more than when the female parts are used. Unfortunately there's no textures, and from what I can see Victoria 8.1 doesn't have textures for male regions (maybe she does but it's not listed), so they might be a bit hard to come by. So you'll need to wait for some tools or figures that specifically include the other anatomy, or make your own.
You could always shrink the rear dangly region. Or make/find a morph..

Or buy UV swap and use Genesis 8 Male materials on both figure and geograft
Genesis 8 UV Swap: Male and Female Base | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D
That is of course an option! Though the only problem with that is that male materials are often a bit... hairy... with stubble everywhere in every texture (it's a thing of nightmares, even in the "clean shaven" variety). So might not be appropriate for more smooth characters.
Genesis 8.1 / Victoria 8.1
A lot of pages to go through and I hoped we might get an answer before Daz close for the day. Bit of an unprofessional oversight and I almost bought Victoria 8.1 until I found out it's not even included there!DVoid said:rayglendenning said:
