Scene identification empty after Windows reinstall

Is the Content Management System running? Have you restored your old database, if possible, or reimported metadata (Content Library pane option menu, the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab, Content DB Maintenance, check Reimport Metadata, select all products and user data in the next dialogue)?
I did reimport metadata and it's still empty. Maybe I didn't do it correctly. Also, I don't know about CMS.

Hey guy,
Is there any way to convert G81. to G8? I am trying to export obj but when importing to morph loader I got warning geometry not match and it fail
Make sure the character mesh resolution is set to base, and delete any eye lashes, eye brows etc before exporting.
8.0 and 8.1 are the same mesh (only for the same gender of course), you should be able to import then use the morph loader. If you do use this method, you will lose any jcm corrections for that morph, so it is not the best way to go from 8.1 to 8.0, however the alternatives can be quite advanced, as you would likley need to edit the dsf files, which is non-trivial.
Ok I will try it now. Thank you for help guys
And btw what I should uncheck in the popup window when I export? Leave it default for Daz?
Attach a screenshot of the dialoque, not at home with DS atm.

problem categorizing 3rd party itemsRight-click on the folder in the Content Library with the assets in question and select Edit Metadata. Select an item in the top half and see which, if any, categories it belongs to in the bottom half, Default or otherwise.

G3 and G8 pose convertor to G9I bought this and sure, it is really useful for my content library. However, I need to emphasise that it takes a jolly long time to convert poses if you also want it to add the metadata. A long long long time.

Still had locked category directories. Yet supposedly this was UserData, yet you are seeing Vendor Data for all data rows? Just looking quick, unsure if you are working with basic defaults or a your own custom data tables (categories defined). Never looked myself.
2 times was using the category save .dsx files (once was to populate a new PC).
The fix was did "a workaround and duplicate everything to another temp folder. Once duplicated, my ability to rename is restored. But this is a bit of work." Had sent this to DAZ via ticket. Response was this is currently unfortunately normal.
So if you do find a faster way of editing PostgreSQL, would be very interested to hear about it. For eventual next time.

Still it seems that standard Ds function does not work for me. I still prefer to DB maintenance though I rarely do so... unless absolutely necessary.
Material problem on reimport of an obj export of a Genesis 9 figureHi,
I imported back an obj export of Victoria 9 HD but the material doesn't render correctly.
What I do:
- New scene
- Load Victoria 9 HD
- Parameters / General / Mesh Resolution - Level: Base - SubD Level: 0 - Render SubD Level: 0
- Export to "G9_Victoria_Test.obj" - All default settings except TO: Modo & uncheck "Quota Path Containing Spaces"
- Immediately import back this file in the same scene (no modification, not even opening it in another app in between) - From: Modo - no change in the settings
- In the scene I select "Victoria 9 HD" then in the "Surface" tab right click on "Victoria 9 HD" / Copy selected surface(s)
- In the scene I select "G9_Victoria_Test" then in the "Surface" tab right click on "G9_Victoria_Test" / Paste to selected surface(s)See attached file "G9 Victoria HD obj reimport.jpg" (in front the original figure).
I've also attached a 2nd file, "G8F Chrissy obj reimport.jpg", showing the same procedure applied to a G8 figure... and it works.
This works with G8 but not with G9. So what's the problem ? How should I do it with G9 ?
I'm using Daz Studio 4.21
Thanks,
Genesis 8.1 to Genesis 8 just shape convertionG8.1 can use G8 and G3 textures/skins with no problems and if the SubD is set at the same level as with G8, G8.1 is no different from G8.
Edit; Sorry, forgot... One needs DS 4.15 for G8.1 to see G8 morphs and characters. Try testing you import/export settings first with G8, before trying the same with G8.1

The user-defined categories and assignment are stored in cms database. You have to Export User Data right after you make mass change to them. In case you loss your categories / assignment, you may Re-Import User Data as above-mentioned.
But be noted that re-importing User Data will bring you some 'wrong data' i.e. the 'user defined categories' will turn into 'vendor categories' . You're not able to rename them if you wanna do so.... I think it's a 'little bug'...
All non- Local user metadata is Vendor data, with the exception of Usernotes and Userwords https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1000831/#Comment_1000831 .

In this case, use a PostgreSQL management software to connect to cms database and make field value change of your categories:

Manual editing of the database is not supported - "on your head be it."
Thanks for the clarification! I learnt some 'tricks' from this old thread ~ I just tried replacing guid with the string of zeros in dsx file, however, it did not work. The imported metadata was still 'Vendor Data'... will further test it.
The relevant sections is "... in the event of a collision between data elements defined by a user and data elements defined by a vendor, the data elements defined by a vendor will typically replace those defined by the user." If the data, as Vendor data, is already in the database then reimporting as userdata (zeroed GUID) will be ignored, the vendor data takes precedence.
Yea, understood. Actually I did delete the categories and assignment I created before re-importing and also tried CTRL + Export Product Metadata, the results were the same...
will try it again tomorrow...Daz Install Manager (DIM) 1.4.1.87, Now Available! (*UPDATED*)Richard Haseltine said:
They do communicate, but if a product has been installed through DIM (or Daz Central) it is still, correctly, shown as cavailable for a Connect install. If you don't want to use DS to install then don't have it go online and it won't know about newer products.
Ah, I see what you mean. Still, I feel like that's something the Connect and DIM could do a bit better; if a product is installed through one method, disable the means to install it a second time through the other method. Or at perhaps include some kind of toggle option that does that.
Richard Haseltine said:
Did you try right-click>Refresh on the top-level container in the pane?
I did, and no dice. Cave Ogre still wouldn't show up.
Richard Haseltine said:
That sounds as if they had been installed through DS.
But that's the weird thing - they weren't! I built a new PC last year and did a clean install of all my Daz products through DIM. I only started downloading some products through DS/Connect recently, and none of the West Part series products were among those.
Richard Haseltine said:
Things that are not installed at all will have a grey thumbnail.
Well, that's one method I suppose. But trawling through 4000+ products in my Smart Content looking for the odd greyed-out thumnail isn't exactly enticing,
Richard Haseltine said:
That's User data, which uninstalling will not remove. You can remove it by right-click menu, then replace the emtadata by letting DS go online or reinstalling the product through DIM/Daz Central
But I've uninstalled the products through DIM (I'm sorry, but I'm not touching Daz Central with a barge pole), reinstalled them, and still no dice. Tried that method you mentioned, and they've at least moved out of the "Available" tab. I had to click "Work Offline" first, then right-click and update their metadata, at which point Das logged me back in, and redownloaded/updated the products in quetion.
I'm sorry if I sound like I'm being bitchy, I honestly don't mean to. It's just that when I set up Daz on this new PC I was extremely careful not to mess up my directories or installation paths, and I've tried to keep things as well organised and tidy as I can. Then weird stuff like this happens seemingly at random, and it gets frustrating.

[Mature Content] Dicktator morphs no longer exporting over Daz to Unity bridge.Previously I was working on a project on the Unity game engine, an adult project, where I use the dicktator asset.
In the project I had managed to export many characters with all of their 'blend shapes' for the Dicktator morph to Unity successfully.
I since took a break from the project and went to get started again, it seems that whenever I try to re-import these old models even with all of the correct blend targets/morphs selected in the export options the Dicktator morphs/blend shapes are not exported to Unity. What am I doing differently that is causing these to new longer be exported? I remember I had trouble way back getting Daz3D to export the 'blend shapes' for the Dicktator morphs in the past but I had solved it. Now I can't seem to be able to figure it out anymore and anytime I re-import a modified model it breaks the previous work because these 'blend shapes' get removed.
If anyone can help me solve this, or link me to a forum post that discusses it (I remember finding one previously that explained how to solve it, I vaguely recall it requiring me to use the 'Export' option instead of the bridge and a certain FBX version but I cannot recall) I would greatly appreciate it and could even throw in some frree useful Unity asset(s) for any other Unity developer who can help me solve this.

RRRR back from the dead! Random RuntimeThe always fun RRRR is back from the dead. And the first theme is 'back from the dead.' Software agnostic so Carrara entries eligible.
What is RRRR? It is a render challenge in which you randomly select a certain number of items from your own content library and those must be included in the render. Humor is encouraged, but some beautiful and poignant art also emerges.
Example. Random? How does one do random? Fortunately, there are free random number generators for any range available on the web. So one way to do it, if you have 12 pages in your Daz account product library, is to ask for a random number in 1-12 to select the page, then a random number in 1-40 if there are 40 items per page. That selects the first item. Repeat until you have the required number of randoms and then create a render from it. Another way to do it is to use DIM if you installed your content that way. DIM can export lists of your content in a text format readable by a spreadhseet or similar program. Import a list and note the number of rows. Use a random number generator to pick the required number of items from the list. Postwork is allowed. You are permitted to draw again if you get certain plugins, etc. It is all explained but is not complicated.
