Finished with the facial painting. Started the torso and hands (not shown, needs de-seamed) and tested out a fantasy set of ears and a HD morph add-on for a little more detail in the face.
Wow Who Knew? Or V4 & M4 Clothing Conversions ThreadGreat idea for a thread. If you can convert an item designed for another figure to M4 or V4, you may also be able to convert again for use with later genesis figures. Here is an example. I have a historical pack for the Poser 7 male Simon. I was able to use Poser's wardrobe wizard to convert items designed for P7 simon to M4, and then from M4 to later genesis figures using Daz's transfer utility. For wardrobe wizard, you need the appropriate figure pack.
See the thread here.

The following pic shows that the converted file using the transfer utility (left side) actually gets better results than the base wardrobe wizard conversion alone (right side). See the poke through in the thigh in the right side.
Wow Who Knew? Or V4 & M4 Clothing Conversions ThreadSomebody had asked how Xurge3d clothing for v3 and v4 converted to the higher generations.
This is V3 Dragon Princess auto fitted to genesis (pink hair) saved as a Figure/Prop asset then moved to Gen2F. The transfer utility did not work as well moving the top to G2F but it autofitted beautifully. The pants were done with the transfer utility.
So if it doesn't work one way, try it another way, usually, if one doesn't work the other will.
OT: A quick look at options for 3D scanningRenderpeople talks about their 3d person scanning system here: https://renderpeople.com/3d-scanning/ They also sell rigged and posed 3d scanned models of people.
Besiedes the cost you'll see that a problem with 3d scanned people vs the DAZ models is each person is a unique set of polygons which means they are all unique models and cannot share hair/clothes/makeup/skins etc like the Genesis platforms can. I think you could in theory use a tool like Wrap http://www.russian3dscanner.com/ to take a 3d scan of a person and make it into a Genesis morph, but you'd lose a lot of detail since you can't make HD morphs without the PA tool which would kind of defeat the whole purpose of going to the lengths/cost of scanning people.
Help with Sapphire Hair AdjustmentActually I do not know, which plug in smaker1 mentioned . hope to know.
maybe new simulation plug in product like "VWD Cloth And Hair", seems become popular here or there?
or simulate in other aprication then return it as morph?Which DAZ Genesis 3 M and F characters are the most realistic?OK, I will post example. I am currently rendering a corny scene for the milk props freebie in the PC+ section of the forums with the LY Stormy skin texture with the Bethany 7 morph shape and the Dale texture with the Brian (3) combined with Hunter (5) Head morph shapes which is part of the LY Distictive HD Faces and Bodies morphs Lyoness released recently.
I do admit the the LY Stormy skin texture is model flawless but it is not so blurred and capable of showing fine details, albiet it details a Dove Soap model would have...but still.
I don't use Dale's acne scar textures and I avoid dialing up the details too much as it then emphasizes some unique skin properties of Dale that others have already used.
The main thing that draws me to a texture when I buy it is, is it a skin tone other than this generic California tan that is so easy to get in the DAZ Store. Dale, Kimo, and Stormy all meet that criteria for me. Skin is more than just light to dark; there are quite a few color hues for skin that are valid and subtle but hardly ever available.
When my render is finished I will post it here but it will be a while as I am CPU rendering volumetric milk in the scene from MEC4D's vol 2 iRay shaders. Currently it looks like to me an image a meticulous painter might do more than a realistic photograph. In the DAZ world I've only found few renders that are momentarily looking realistic. It's an OK render although I'm as usual not entirely happy with the face expressions and other aspects. Oh, does DAZ need a new cow and/or do I need to learn to create my own textures that are good, lol, one of the two...or both.
For good rendering tutorials that are simple you should do the tutorials here:
Import obj filesI don't understand what the transfer utility to rig it means..sorry but i am fairly new to creating clothing and putting it on the models Although not new to dazzling studioA conforming item has to have the same bones, with exactly the same settings for origin and endpoint, as the figure it goes on (it can also have additional bones to, for example, control skirts but those have to be added later). You cannot just assign the right bones (by name) and have it work. The Transfer Utility (Edit>Figure>Transfer Utility) allows you to set a source figure (Genesis 2 Female) and optionally shape (a moprh applied to the source figure around which the clothing was made), and a target (your imported OBJ file). It then creates the bones and projects the weights from the base figure into the clothing - that's likely to need adjustments to the weights and may require additional bones (added with the Joint Editor) but it usually gives a good starting point.
How to reduce Genesis file sizes in Carrara?I have saved figures and props as support asset with a created FBM after running ERC freeze but need to be extremely careful renaming everything as to not overwrite the original then you can delete all data but that morph in your shaping folders for that asset.
Its a rather risky process though as too easy to overwrite original done so too often as to not like to do it.
Mine been mostly decimated figures or with a nonTpose for transfer utility use
*FIXED (though still need tuition)* Help please - Corrupted my G2F characterWhen you save a morph the options dialogue lets you specify the folder to use, via a drop down at the top, for the asset files (the \Data folder entries). If you've removed all of the data folders then the figure should simply stop loading, so I think that must be failing. The first thing to do is to work out which morphs are causing problems - you should be able to do this by looking at the Currently Used group in the Parameters pane (though you may need to turn on Show Hidden proeprties in the option menu). Once you know the culprit(s) click the gear icon on the slider and open Parametrs Settings, then set the default value to 0, and finally resave the asset using the same options as on the initial save.
How to reduce Genesis file sizes in Carrara?Brainstorming - not experimenting
- can a 2nd blank genesis starters essential be saved in Daz Studio as GenesisB or something similar, without disturbing regular genesis files?
-- if so, it will have the same shape / vertex count and order as Genesis
--if so, load Genesis (original with all morphs), shape as desired, save/export the shape as CustomMorph
--if so, the file CustomMorph has same number and order of vertexes as GenesisB
--if so, start new Studio scene, load GenesisB (fresh), use morph loader to add CustomMorph
--if so, save GenesisB with CustomMorh as character subset
?? thoughts?? any obvious flaws? nonobvious flaws?
*FIXED (though still need tuition)* Help please - Corrupted my G2F characterHi,
I've managed to corrupt the way Daz handles the mesh on G2F which is now my most used figure. I was trying to create a morph and somehow managed to over-write the base shape that G2F loads with. I have by zero-ing the figure and saving in a number of ways managed to get it to load the default shape again - however checking the parameters the morphs dials are still set to the figure I was trying to create. Everytime I now try and apply a morph the face "collapses" - the eye region moves forward a by 1 or 2 on the Z axis, the eyelids become arched, pupils mis-shape and the lacrimals distort. The lips also mishape and become dis-jointed from the chin region and over-lap+poke through. But it also loads it as a scene, over-writing the camera and backdrop settings rather than loading a figure on it's own. No other figures are effected, so I've obviously just corrupted the figure not the program and this is pretty impressive user error.
I have tried the following steps to resolve this but have been unsuccessful so far - any suggestions? - (I am guessing that it is corruption in the data folder somewhere but lack of experience in that foler and the size of it leaves my a bit stumped as I can't identify which folder needs deleting/removing):
1. Removed the Genesis 2 Female folders that I have identified from the data folders in the Connect library, the Daz3D library and as DS had created a data folder under my own subfolder from where I had created some new models and been telling it to save to from there too.
2. Also removed the G2F data folders from and folders in these named as DAZ3D, DAZ or DAZ 3D ...
Those steps have improved it slightly but not fixed it (I moved the folders outside of the DS tree incase they needed putting back, nothing has been deleted yet unless it was labelled as the morph I tried to create). However all of the morphs I'd previously created still exist in the Morphs root parameter folder of the figure so I'm missing something somewhere .... One other factor here is that the previous morphs were all done by importing from V4 or G1 to G2F ... this new one was trying to create a G2F shape to a G2F morph so was done differently to all the others.
3. Reinstalled all the Genesis 2 Female packages and Victoria 6 packages ... this has made no difference.
There is one other minor user-created complication ... I can't at present uninstall the figure ... As I never thought I'd be removing it I installed it without letting Windows create an uninstaller to keep the Windows registry smaller (although running the install again would obviously create this - but I'm guessing that as I told it to over-write the existing files and the corruption remains, it is something that is feeding in to it rather than the figure itself). So where does DS store these settings so that I can delete that folder (or files in it) to stop it? If I have to uninstall and re-install the figure, what happens to the plug-ins such as Shape? Will they need re-installing or will DAZ simply pick them up from their own data folders?
Thanks in advance.
How to reduce Genesis file sizes in Carrara?well yes all the above is obvious
if it is separated it cannot access the morphs so you cannot morph it
that is the idea if you want to reduce the size
you are like a kitty chasing its tail

what you need to do is copy over the morphs you want to use in that saved figure only, found in its data folder, save as a car file then delete those morphs from the DAZ data for it, rinse repeat next one.
moving the morph data folder does exactly the same thing.
How to reduce Genesis file sizes in Carrara?downloaded Genesis essentials, put it a new folder, loaded it in Studio, injected Banjamin, saved it - 32 kb
open in Carrara, saved it - back to 161,000 kb
I can opeb the new genesis in Carrara (ie the one in the new folder) but under Genesis I don't get any of the usual morphs (eg breasts-side to side etc)
and I cant seem to inject Benjamin (or anything ) into it. Clues welcome.
Benjamin is a M5 morph based character so you would need to install the M5 character file as well, then inject M5 before you inject Benjamin.
https://www.daz3d.com/benjamin-for-m5
I tried doing a plain Genesis install as well but it's still locating some of my extra morphs for some reason.
EDIT:-
I just installed M5 into my plain Genesis folder, then tried to inject M5, was not working, so there must be some other file that needs installing as well !!!!!
How to reduce Genesis file sizes in Carrara?Had a play today, loaded up basicmale duf from daz folder, in vertex room removed all morph areas
and guess what, I can't morph him --- but he still poses.
injecting him with caracters gives me the sliders but no reaction
saves out as 47 mb as opposed to 161,000 mb - so getting somewhere - not sure where though
I opened th ecar file in Notepadd ++ and you can see whare the morphs are easily, but it's beyond me to delete them - too many

Wow Who Knew? Or V4 & M4 Clothing Conversions ThreadFirst Tip - Many other items will convert well through the generations. Some easier than others. Hair for instance, usually can be either used and/or converted with varying degrees of difficulty. Many of them transfer very well. If the hair is a bit too thin - load up two of them. You can also offset the second one a tiny bit to help fill in as well, and, you can use two different hairstyles together as well.
There is an excellent tutorial on this from RAMWolff. It's for Genesis, but I can personally attest to it working for old hair on Genesis 3.
Which DAZ Genesis 3 M and F characters are the most realistic?Hmmm. I don't think they actually want to use super hi-res photos in the 3D model or rendering of the model itself but instead what they want is more complex surface material zones and 'PBR micromaterials' created/generated from such hi-res photos (and by the way they are using more than 'regular light' now to create such reference materiels) for ease of variance and uniqueness. And they want those correctly defined in PBR for use in the iRay shader renderings. And they want a UI that makes sense to a 5 year old playing dolls.
In the same way DAZ has made it easy (well easier) to apply morphs (although it's not so simple to me if you look at a morph that has been applied from every angle and often find that it's just not working from some angles) so to do they want to easily configure unique skins for their characters that are one offs to their own personal project goals.
It is really a reasonable goal given what DAZ is and that each individual is trying to create their personalized art, personalized graphic novel, personalized animation, although I admit personally I am more of a tech nerd so I mainly am interested in seeing that although far too lazy and untrained to think my curiosity is going to lead me to make a significant contribution to the technical implementation.
If the majority of DAZ hobbyists wanted to become competent amateurs to the point of being able to create their own textures sets and geometries then really those customers should be asking why even bother with the expense of DAZ products? Blender is free.
