So Genesis 8 is here!
I do hope that a GenX2 plugin or its equivelant is made for Genesis 8 so we can transfer characters from previous generations. I am pretty happy with G3F textures being useable on G8.
Unless someone can pick up the torch due to Dimension3D's passing; otherwise I don't think it will be happening, although I do not doubt that someone will make it's equivalent!
Victoria 8Is it possible to use a morph from Genesis 3 on Genesis 8 female? I have made a Lara character that I would like to import to Genesis 8.
Also: why is it called Genesis 8 and not Genesis 4? I would have thought that Genesis 4 comes after Genesis 3 ...

Special note on how to apply the different tones to the skin:

You wont see the differences in tone in the preview window, but they will show up in the render.

Reasons for moving to G8/Vic8?Joint bendings looked good on G3F, they do look better with G8F. Expressions look finally natural. Has been a big issue with previous DAZ figures. HD morphs are set to zero by default, so better for morph creations.
Released-Keri for Victoria 8 [Commercial]Keri is a character for Victoria 8 with a custom head morph and additional body morphs from the Genesis 8 Female Body Morph Pack and uses the base Genesis 8 Female UV maps. Her base morph will load both the custom, dialed and Victoria 8 morphs into your Genesis 8 Female Model.
She has a collection of 5 complete make up options, three brows and a no brow option as well as three mascara options for a mix and match variety. Of her 6 eye colors, one is a fantasy version just to mix things up a bit.
The base hierarchy material setting will add the lash, tears and anatomical element materials with the base figure as long as both are loaded with Genesis or Victoria 8 Models.
Anatomical Elements are included.
Materials are Iray only.

This is what I was afraid of.Perhaps the idea is to get as close to game-ready as possible, and less (polys) is more in this case. V4 is still around and can wear the later gear.
I would believe that if there was 2 optional resulutions.
High res one, 30k, for render artists, and one for games @ 15k...
Then I wouldnt be upset. Then I would be really really happy in fact.
But thats not the case. Thats not what I'm seeing here. shes not being presented as a gaming figure. Shes being presented as a rendering figure...
We have a word for this. It's called regression... but where not really going backwards. It's fowards... So long as your the kind of person who likes to buy a morph. Dial it in, and click the make art button... But people like me.. They are trying to castrate us out of the loop. This will come back to haunt them one day cause people will stop buying stuff at this rate... They need to let people make art too... Or people lose their will and interest. At this point I have enough toys. I wont be supporting Daz anymore until they fix their tune about how they treat their customers like their stupid suckers with bigger wallets then brains.
I'm sticking with G3, I'm going to skip the G8 generation completly and utterly and wait for G9 and see, and if G9 isnt at least 20k polys I'm done with Daz indefinitely.
Victoria 8Test render with G8 Starter Essentials. The skin looks really good. She's even got a few stretchmarks in all the right places. This is one of the V7 fashion poses. Just had to adjust the top of the arms a little and it worked fine, took 2 seconds.
I used one of the expressions that came in the G8 package. Very nice!
The nails look good. The eyes look a little strange, like she's been partying all night. Other than that, I really like the new improvements! I'll have to learn my away around Power Pose. Used to working with the sliders.
I still have the sliderss available in the Posing tab. I only have the essentials, but it looks to me like the PowerPose capabilities are in addition to the old ways we are used to. Mybe someone with the morph and expression packs can clarify this?
Victoria 8Pros:
- No inmediate need for a "Wear them all" type of product (though it would be nice for added functionality and V4 support).
- Autofitted female content looks quite nice and a lot of the time preserves style morphs.
- G3F female UV, which takes care of a lot of issues with materials.
- The expressions look much, much better by default, with HD wrinkles included in in the base figure.
- Muscularity and bending look to be quite an improvement. This and the expressions are my main siren's lure.
- Improved eyelashes and nails. That's nice.
- If you use powerpose, there's a new template for it. Huzza.
Cons:
- Poses don't work. Yet another pose converter script needed, unless someones manages a pose corrector additive pose.
- Low chance of a product like GenX and, even if it came along, unless it was a DO it wouldn't transfer HD morphs.
- The sysiphean task of, once again, gathering enough product variety to replicate the previous figure functionality (although certain base improvements and the UV make this a tad easier than it was with G3F).
- The feeling that this came out of left field and blindsided customers who were finally happy with their G3F after two years of gathering content (yes, I know this is subjective--it doesn't mean it isn't real).
- No loyalty discount. In fact, there's kind of an anti-loyalty discount, as Victoria 8 offers you the previous iterations but doesn't give you anything if you already have them.
- The dreaded shrink-wrap effect is in full force when autofitting male content or G1 content.
- Geografts can be autofitted, but they will work as conformers and lose their bones (transfer utility may take care of the bones, but they still won't replace base geometry).
- I am poor, grouchy and all this newflangled G8F thing is confusing and terryfying to my poor, age-addled brain. Get off my lawn, ye darn kids!
All in all, I am having mixed feelings about this. I don't feel the slightest advantage about being an early adopter and I was finally confident about what G3 offered me. I will probably wait and see, but I am quite miffed about all the G3 products that won't see the light of day (we all know how quickly that well will dry up). I really like some of what G8 brings to the table, I just wish it could have, somehow, been an update to G3 instead of a replacement.
Also, Kudos to Zev0 for updating Skin Builder's compatibility, it was one of the first things I checked and i am glad it will come to pass. Now, if only there was a way to do the same for morphs. And poses. And geografts. And my wallet.
Previous generation characters as G8Yep latest version just downloaded. I am sure it is a clone/morph setting they forgot about.
I think you may need to reinstall Genesis 8 on your computer. I tried dialing in the G3M clone, also using the latest version, and the fingers were fine.
Victoria 8...noi, no, no.
I finally got Skin builder Pro 3 for G3F, along with GenX 3.and earlier, the Growing Up Morphs for G3, as well as a number of morph resource kits. I now feel well equipped to create the characters I want and need off of G3 without making a massive investment in content. Not going to throw away the investment I have for the latest "shiny" and have to go through this all over once again, particularly as I am now on an extremely limited budget. This happened far too many times over recent years. Time to put the foot down and "say enough is enough".There is no way I can "keep up with the Jonses" anymore . I am done.
Skin builder will work for G8, you just have to build on G3 and save your presets and apply them to the G8 figure.
Victoria 8Well tried to create a morph with Sculptris and when the figure resolution is set to base and SubDiv set to zero, when importing back as a morph it pops a mismatch error.. So looks like no morph making from me.. :(
Unless you made a mistake somewhere, that is giant red flag to me. Anyone tried the Hexagon bridge? You'll probably have to morph withou eyelashes otherwise it will give you an vertex error. The lashes autofollow and are separate and therefore have to be morphed separately.
Victoria 8I'm with Kyoto Kid... just got everything finally for G3, but with some Zevo updates (sending good vibes your way) I think G8 has some crazy good features.
Also there is more iray stuff (nvidia hair hopefully), and DS updates for animation and more coming later in the year. All of my G3 (and older) hair(facial M too) and clothes do work with what might be a small tweak or so.
The eye lashes, brows, tendon and muscle detail and movement and PowerPose are more than a little deal. I am sure over the next few weeks all the kinks will be worked out and thing will move forward. Hopefully we get our G8M base sooner than later!
Take a look at all the hidden Adjustment and Clone morph dials! We are 3 hours in, I'm sure there will be a few hiccups, LOL!

Could the separate lashes figure be causing an issue?
Oh yes!! That too! When you export, make sure the lashes aren't on (or are at least hidden in the scene tab). The cool thing is that the lashes (and tear) will now auto-follow the face morphs so you don't have to adjust them manually when you're sculpting a morph :D
If you want to adjust the lashes specifically, load those in alone, and export for sculpting.Yeah looks it works, never figured on the lashes screwing things up, if they are removed from the figure creating the morph is possible.. Eitherway still early days for the figure..
You need to set it to base res, not subD 0. That can sometimes cause mismatch errors. Also, if scluptris adds subD...
As I said in my post I had set the resolution to base and no it does not work I get a Geometry Mismatch error.. Looks like it is no longer possible to make morphs with Sculptris..
Well, you said you had it set to subD 0, and I wasn't sure if you meant the drop down or you put in subD 0 on the slider. There's a drop down box that says High Res or Base Res and instead of setting subD to 0 in the other box, you need to set that drop-down to Base Res.
Sorry for the terse reply, just got a little cranky when the morph creation I knew how to do didn't work, who knew that having the lashes as a separate figure would complicate matters.. :(

Genesis 8 and Genesis 3 TexturesG8F is supposed to have "clones" for G3F, G2F and Genesis, as well as G3M and G2M. That means that outfits designed for those figures should all work with G8F using autofit. I tried it with G8F and a G3M outfit. There weren't many options but using "Full Body" on the autofit dialogue, everything fit on G8F fine. That should work with hair products too.
As for morphs, they won't work. At least not yet. If an add-on for GenX2 comes out to transfer from G3 to G8, then that would let you transfer those mophs over, but it may be a little while before such a product comes out. Otherwise it's a case of waiting for morphs to be released. I noticed they've already brought out female body and head morphs (as separate products).
