    Too bad,

if you bought the V5, V6, V7 pro packs, you should have an orange banner for an additional discount of 30% (10% for each of the pro-packs). Check you special, offers messages.

I didn't buy the pro packs. But I already spent over 9K $ here (following ATI's shop statistics) during the last years. And I own some of the additional morph products for the other generations and growing ups.
But !! No special offer. crying

  • So Genesis 8 is here!

Thanks for all the info. I just feel a little concerned as I've worked really hard to make several genesis 3 characters that I'm really happy with. Will there be a way to transfer them into genesis 8 so to speak? Apologies if that's a silly question, I'm still learning with DAZ :)

  • So Genesis 8 is here!

I bought Victoria8 Pro and I'm not impressed.

    • Gen8 destroys extra bones in Gen3/2 clothes just like Gen3 "backwards compatibility" did. There is absolutely no reason to delete extra bones and their weights. Also why even touch the bones which are identical between Gen3 and Gen8?
    • Shoes are mangled the same as well. Looking forward to wasted hours of fidgeting with the transfer tool for subpar results.
    • The reworked heel bending is achieved by removing the heel bone. Is that more natural? Sure you can't bend your heel but neither can you bend your metatarsals in real life. If the goal was to remove unnatural bending options then why were the metatarsal bones kept? Oh and they put the individual toes under the 'left/right toes'. That's hard to understand as anything other than deliberately created incompatiblity since it accomplishes nothing else.

Those are the things I tested first. I'll go through all the claims from the Genesis8 page: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis8

    • All new PowerPose Expression Interface for easier, more realistic facial poses
I don't use PowerPose much but this looks impressive based on the video. No reason this same thing couldn't be done for Gen3, however.
    • Separate conformers for eyelashes...
Completely unnecessary as you could already hide eyelashes and replace textures to get any result you wanted. Why eyelashes and not eyebrows? Freaking bethesda had the wisdom to add eyebrows as a separate conformer in 2011 for Skyrim. At least separate brows would be an actual, much needed improvement. (at least for people like me who don't want to edit skin textures). I guess you're already saving features for Gen9...
Apparently the eyelash thing is good for content creators. And I didn't notice the eyebrows that came with V8. My bad.
    • ...and a new eye design
I had no complaints about Gen3 eyes. I'm sure I'll have no complaints about Gen8's either. BUT! The eyes have the same size and shape. This could've just as easily been released for Gen3.
    • Improved default pose to allow for new content types
Oh come on. I'm an amateur when it comes to modeling but even I know that the pose is not a real obstacle for creating anything.
    • More realistic fingers, toes, and nail beds
Yeah these do look somewhat better.
    • Dramatically improved IRAY Uber Shader with new Sub Surface features for natural depth and detail of skin
Oh please. You can't justify a new Genesis version with a shader. This is pure filler to pad the list.
    • Included clones for compatibility with Genesis, Genesis 2 & Genesis 3. Even between male & female
Not impressed. See the list on the top.
    • Improved abdomen, shoulder and collar bone bends...
So Gen8 comes with this product built in? https://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-natural-bend-morphs-for-victoria-7
I hope you're paying royalties, lol
Big pro for me here is that this seems to work on Gen8 in general. With Gen3 I had to inject 50% Victoria into every figure to get these results.
    • ...and built-in muscle flexion
Yeah I bought the morphs for Gen3, thanks. It's nice that this is included by default now but nowhere near revolutionary.
    • Reworked heel and toe bending to support more shoe types
See my related point on the top. Please someone give me an example of a shoe that was simply impossible to make for Gen3. Until then I'm considering this point an absolute negative.
    • Extreme backward compatibility and amazing advancements all in one
Yeah I wanna keep this family friendly so no comment.

    Cynical interpretation:
Ok so the lovely people at Daz get their money from running the store. They need a new generation every once in a while to wipe the slate clean. They tried to cover this by paying lip service to compatibility.

    Alternative interpretation:
Daz has the misguided notion that they have to churn out a new generation every few years even though nobody is really asking for it. They are victims of their own previous success in creating Vic7 and this lackluster feature list reflects their inability to come up with any groundbreaking improvements.

The results are the same either way. The quality creators will move on to Gen8. I'm left with the choice between sticking with a generation that sees no new releases or start rebuilding my collection from zero. My blood pressure goes up. Life goes on.

ok thanks guys i'm getting those morphs too and yes i'm including quaterly membership. thanks

I don't know if you made a typo or not but if you didn't, get the Platinum Membership before you make your purchases. You mention you are "including quarterly membership."

i added membership in cart with v8, body and face morph...it's showing discount on v8 when membership is included.

Should i first get membership then? will it discount on morphs too? i'm confused

    yes, buy the membership first.

After that, buy the V8 bundle, make sure you have the V5, V6, and V7 bundles in the cart and they are free when you buy V8.

Third purchase should be the morphs and expressions. Make sure you use the DAZ Original coupon code on this order for another $6 off.

Edit: yes, the morphs will get an additional 30% off, for a total of 51%, because they are also DAZ Originals. Don't use the coupon with the V8 order, because the coupons get messed up when they are used on orders that include free items.

  • Transfer Utility G3F to G8F

Once you transfer morphs,  you can  export current shape, and re-import it by morph loader, then use attenuate option to limit defomation with new weight map

or you can directly select vertices and remove effect of vertices ,with parameter tab (you need to set the morph as favorite).

Josh you tube tutoriall may show you the way (limit morph effect, which you made)

I am now planing to transfer some character to G8,, then see how it work,,

Thanks for the replies! :) About my other question, is it possible to transfer a character morph for Genesis 3 to Genesis 8?

I'm not seeing an easy way to bring them over. Trying to load a morph definitely doesn't work and they don't show up in the shaping sliders. Perhaps the changes are too big for that to be doable. There might be a way to use the morph transfer utility to do that. Haven't explored it yet. With the recent passing of the GenX2 creator, it might be a while before we can get the morphs over to V8, not sure.

I still think there's plenty of life left in Genesis 3. V8 just opens some new possibilities. We probably won't see a M8 till late fall if it follows the release pattern so far.

I brought my OC JaguarElla over to G3F before GenX covered her by conforming a base figure mesh to the morphed figure to create a clone morph obj so it is doable just a lot of hiding exporting and importing mesh and doing ERC freezes and stuffs.

That sounds very difficult, I'm a beginner at Daz so I would need detailed tutorial blush to do something like that. Genx is it a program to transfer morphs?  If so: is there a genx for transfer morphs from genesis 3 female to genesis 2 female? I have some genesis 2 clothes that don't autofit so well to genesis 3.

GenX indeed transfers morphs between generations but it's creator recently died so an update unlikely unless he partnered with someone.

So unsure where we stand wirh someone creating a way to do it in a commercial automated script.

They would need to write it from scratch not borrowing his unless next of kin gave permission.

DAZ on the otherhand could inbuild the ability into DAZ studio  as they own the meshes rather than a plugin but whether they have a vested interest in making older products more recyclable is debatable.

  • Released: Easy Teeth for Genesis 8 Female(s) and MR - Teeth Morphs and Mats [commercial]

    PRODUCT PAGE

Easy Teeth for Genesis 8 Female(s) and Merchant Resource in Vendor, SF-Design, 3D Models by Daz 3D

The teeth of humans never look exactly the same. Unique characters have different teeth.

Give your Genesis 8 Female based characters some more individuality with adjusting the shape and look of their teeth.

This morph pack contains 139 morphs to adjust the shape and position of the teeth. You can adjust each tooth individually. Make them wider/smaller, longer/shorter, adjust the depth or make the tooth or several/all teeth completely gone to get a gap. Great for elderly women, younger kids with tooth gaps or any other situation where a missing tooth or teeth is needed. You can also move and rotate the upper incisors, lateral incisors and canines.

Included are also morphs for all teeth, like one to get childish milk teeth. Children's teeth do not look like adult ones, so this is very handy for younger characters. Morphs to make the teeth irregular are included beside morphs to make the lower and upper canines sharp (nice for vampires or other fantasy creatures) as well.

Rounded up is this product by the included 10 material presets for Iray. Unclean and yellowed teeth, different teeth tones like slightly stained or bleached white teeth, bloody teeth and one preset with gold teeth. There are also 7 shape presets included that utilize the morphs. You can of course save all your teeth adjustments as your own shape presets as well to be able to quickly apply your favorite settings later.

Overall a very versatile product to make your characters more unique.

This product is also a Merchant Resource you can use to create morphs for your character products. Please refer to the ReadMe how this resource may be used.

  • So Genesis 8 is here!

I do hope that a GenX2 plugin or its equivelant is made for Genesis 8 so we can transfer characters from previous generations. I am pretty happy with G3F textures being useable on G8.

Unless someone can pick up the torch due to Dimension3D's passing; otherwise I don't think it will be happening, although I do not doubt that someone will make it's equivalent!

Omg that's sad I didn't realize that :( another great vendor gone :(

  • Characters eyes point in opposite direction

any specific characters? The only problems I've encountered sofar are with really old, pre DS, figures.

The only one I can remember off the top of my head is BD Demi by Belladzines (Genesis 3 character). I've tested this character on it's own (not mixed with other characters) and the eyes look the opposite direction to what they should.

When mixing this character with other characters (all Genesis 3 as well) the eyes go crazy. As soon as I reduce this character/morph sliders to zero, they eyes act as normal.

  • So Genesis 8 is here!

Only the base Genesis 3 UV maps will work on Genesis 8. SO any texture set based on that will work. Any other Genesis 3 UV character set you will have to convert into Genesis 3 base UV via map transfer tool or something, then they will work fine on Genesis 8.

Yeps, but some characters (even main ones) are based on the base map some are not.....so it's still a bit of a guess....I guess....but it's cool in itself. BTW, any coments on the templates (I could rig for G3 and transfer but that's a bit of a detour through the well known creek, isn't it?)

  • I'm Stumped - Nyarai and Ceridwen **sometimes** load distorted

I uninstalled Izabella 7 as a test. I restarted Daz Studio 4.9.3.166 and guess what - Nyarai and Ceridwen both loaded and posed correctly correctly. Of course, since the issue has been intermittent, I can't say for certain that Izabella 7 is the smoking gun.

You shouldn't have that problem. Morphs for each Character should be in separate folders in the Data directory. And looking at your listing they are in two different directories. Character A is not going to look in the directory for Character B, C , or D, for it's morphs. if you look in a DUF file you will see Morphs are called out with it's location. As an example, this is from a Character I created, "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis/Base/Morphs/ram1520/FBM-Lisa/Polly-Buff.dsf"  Each morph is going to be called out not only by name but by location.

I think in general that is true. But look at how Daz delivered Izabella 7. In addition to the morphs in the Izabella-specific folder, there is another folder at the same level named "body". "body" folder contains the FBMHeight morph. That puts the FBMHeight morph in the Izabella 7 product at exactly the same logical content library location as the one in the SKU 22050 Genesis 3 Female Body Morphs package. Both morphs resolve to data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/DAZ 3D/Body/FBMHeight.dsf. And in fact, that is the path referenced by character-specific body mophs like fbmizabella7body.dsf. Most characters that use moprphs from Genesis 3 Female Body Morphs list that product as a required prerequisite, but Izabella 7 includes a copy of that morph instead. I don't know how Daz Studio is intended to resolve two morphs with identical logical content library paths in physically different folders of the Daz Connect cloud folder structure. When a character dsf like Nyarai or Ceridwen references that path (data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/DAZ 3D/Body) which version does it get? Maybe that is the source of the intermittent behavior. Maybe sometimes it gets one and other times it gets the other. It LOOKS like sometimes there is some kind of error/collision and it gets totally messed up.

Of course having to uninstall purchased content to get other purchased content to work is NOT a solution in my book. I wonder what would have happened if I had installed both with the DIM. Would one morph have overwritten the other, since they'd be in the same folder? What would have happened then? Would it depend on which product was installed second?

Using DAZ Connect it is impossible for one Product to over write another, due to each product being in a separate folder. I am sure that is one of the reasons, why DAZ 3D decided to use separate diretories for each product. This way one product can't corrupt another unrelated product, with installing, uninstalling, and installing again. If you had installed it with the DIM, there would be a posibility and DIM updates have been known to leave orphaned artifacts behind.

If you use Different Content Libraries for difference Content sources, and you create a Product inline, you will see that the Produce XML file will be in the Support directory for the Library the Product is in. Thus proving, DAZ Studio also respects Content Library separation.

    Hope that helps.

Looks like an artifact someone forgot to delete before packing things up. I downloaded this through the DIM and look at it, Body is in there also, which is odd.

So I used the DIM to download several other Core Actors and none of them have Body and all of the Morphs for the Core Actor's are inside their own folder.

My guess is someone didn't clean up the folder very well, while packing the product up. The problem doesn't happen with the DIM install because it over writes the file already in the Body folder. I am betting that you could rename that folder and everything would work fine, though DAZ Connect might try to 'Heal' what is sees as an error, or it might not. Testing that now, on my baseload machine. Izabella 7 loads just fine without the Body folder. You should submit a bug report on it, because the Body folder is there in error. This is the one time separate Product folders can hurt you.

It also shows, why I suggest doing content creation in a clean Library, for each Project/Product; so artifacts like this, that don't belong to the Project/Product, don't get packaged up with that product. Also testing is easier, you can just move the content folder to your base load test machine.

I once found a whole product installed within a totally separate product, how it got there, I haven't a clue, but it was there.
