  • (RESOLVED) Packaging a prop with "potential" morphs (aka default value 0 when packaged)

You have to save the morphs and pose controls separately with Save As... -> Support Assets -> Morph Asset(s)... (I believe the terminology has changed recently for that last bit)

You will be prompted to select whichever additional parts you want to save (expand the tree). Each one will be saved in a Morphs folder under the Product Name that you have given to your asset, i.e., /data/vendor/Product/Asset/Morphs/morph01.dsf, etc.

  • How to link two morphs?

Hey, is there anyway I can link two morphs?
For example, let's say if I had two morphs,
    Morph A and Morph B.
I want to link Morph A to Morph B, so that when I set Morph A to 100%,
    Morph B becomes 33%, and when I set Morph A to 0%, Morph B becomes 0%.
    is this possible?

  • (RESOLVED) Packaging a prop with "potential" morphs (aka default value 0 when packaged)

    Good morning folks.

I made a display mannequin (think what you'd display armor on, etc, it's basically just a generic torso with a stand) that mirrors most of the base G8F geometry.  I used the transfer utility to transfer the base G8F rigging to it, because I want to be able to use all my morphs and poses on it as well.

Works great, bones move, morphs morph, poses pose.

What I can't figure out is how to save it out as a prop asset so that it keeps the ability to dial these.  I've tried ticking every single morph and pose  once while it is fit-to a G8F then re-zeroing so that the auto-follow hidden property is created, but they disappear after the asset is saved again.  The only way I can seem to get these to stick in the file is if they have values other than zero.

So I guess the question is, how can I make it so that the morphs and poses are available to the asset without dialing them to a non-zero value?  (This isn't being packaged for distribution, just my own use so I'm fine with the dials being of the "hidden auto-follow property" variety if need be.)

  • Daz Studio 4.22[.0.x] Pro, General Release!

    alienarea said:

I run Daz 4.22 on Windows 11 64-bit, Nvdia RTX 3060 with 12 GB VRAM and often Daz is not responding. And it takes ages to clear a scene. HEAT is not installed.

Scene clearing can be slow, though it does seem to vary from system to system (for waht it is worth I suffer pretty slow clearing, though it may have improved a bit recently). What, if anything, is it doing when it is unresponsive? Resolving the chain of dependencies after adjusting a pose can take a while, and updating Smoothign modifiers can be very slow. Loading morph deltas (the actual shape change, which isn't loaded initially), especially HD morphs, can take a while though again it seems to be system dependent.

  • Using face transfer

You can transfer to G9 too, but you need the newer version of Face Transfer for that: https://www.daz3d.com/face-transfer-2

If you've just started and aren't really using G8, you can request a refund for any product within 30 days of purchase. When I first started, I made the mistake of buying a shapes pack for a previous generation, and they were very good about refunding it so I could pick up the equivalent product for the generation I was using.

  • Using face transfer

    Hi all!

Pretty new using Daz and the face transfer feature. I've had a question for a few days now:

Is it possible to transfer a face to a model other than G8F?

I ask because I notice that whenever I upload a face image file, the only options available are G8F or G8M.

Can I designate to which model should the face be transferred to?

    Cheers!

    E.B.

    Hello Nala, welcome!

Something else to look out for is the hair morphs.  For example, if you look at the morph list (in the What's Included and Features section) of Alma Hair (not what you're looking for, just using it as an example), you will find some morphs that say

    • Back-Wave
    • Front-Wavy-L
    • Front-Wavy-R

Now, I do not have this particular hair, but I have several that look straight in the promos, but when you load the hair there are options like that to add some wave to it.  They usually are not very strong, but it does change the look.  The best thing would probably be to choose a hair that you really like that has wave (or sometimes it says curl) morphs, and ask in the forum about that hair specifically.  If someone there has it, maybe they can tell you how strong the effect is.  If not, it's a bit of a pain, but you can buy it, try it, and if it's not what you want you can return it.

    Good luck in your search!

Ohhh I will definetly look into it! Thank you so much!

I think they are too generic to be considered lookalikes. Consider this one just a typical face morph pack.

Has anyone put together a list of names for Action Heroines Face Morphs for Genesis 9 yet?  I think I see Haylee Atwell, ScarJo, Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Olsen, and there *might* be Emilia Clarke and Uma Thurman, judging from the dressing of the promos.  The rest I really don't know.

  • Hood following head while down

Assigning new weight maps to the clothing is the way to do it as Richard suggests but you don't have to do it manually yourself. Let Studio do it for you. There are a couple of steps and the use of utilities you might not yet have seen and, as you're posting in the New Users section, I'll try to list the actions as comprehensively as possible but if I miss something or you're not sure about anything please just ask.

What we're going to do is create a completely new version of that hoodie with the hood down and save it as a separate clothing item. During the import phase of creating your new clothing Studio will assign weight maps to it based on how close the geometry is to the various bones of the skeleton. In this case the shoulder bones are closer than the head bones to the hood so the result is that the hood now follows the body parts you want it to.

    1. Load a base G8 and leave it in the default A-pose.

    2. Load your hoodie.

    3. Apply the hood down morph and run the default dForce simulation.

    4. Select just the hoodie and then export it as an .obj to a folder on your hard-drive: File -> Export. Make sure that 'Filter Objects' is ticked in the options box that pops up otherwise you may end up exporting the figure geometry as well but leave all the other options at their default settings.

    5. Delete the original hoodie. We don't need anything more from it at this stage.

    6. Import the .obj hoodie from your chosen folder. If all has gone well it should appear to be properly fitted to your character although it actually isn't. If this doesn't happen, start again from Stage One!

    ---

    7. Now we're going to make it fit your character using the Transfer Utility. This process copies the skeleton from G8 onto your clothing and assigns the weightmaps. There are a few ways of starting the Transfer Utility and here's one of them. Select your hoodie and then Edit -> Object -> Transfer Utility.

    8. In the window that appears select Genesis 8 (or Genesis 8.1) in the drop down box labelled Scene Item in the Source section. Select your new hoodie object in the corresponding Target scene item drop down. Leave everything else at default and click Accept. The hoodie is now properly fitted as clothing to G8.

Try moving your figure around now - you'll see that Studio has correctly weight mapped the hoodie for it's hood-down state. You also might notice that you've lost all the other morphs from the original and you can't now apply the materials that came with the outfit (because the import process changed the name of the surface slightly) but both of these are easily fixable. Rather than another wall of text (and sorry about this, screen shots tend not to upload on weekends due to server overload!) if you want to know how to finish the process off please just ask.

    9. Finally.... File -> Save As -> Support Asset -> Figure/Prop Asset. Set the content type to Follower -> Wardrobe -> Shirt or whatever else you want to, same for all the other options. You don't have to set them but it helps if you use Smart Content.

Give your clothing a new file name and don't save it over the original!

Is this the thing that everybody's talking about?  I've been getting this for the last few weeks or so, whenever I try to load any G8 or G9 figure.  I have to say, it's proved to be a false flag so far and luckily I haven't run into any problems.  I hit 'ok' and it's gone.  It's just annoying.

It's not a false flag, it means that a morph that you have installed for that base character (G9) is not working correctly.

I am native American on both sides of my family, yet never had a chance to learn my history or culture. I was surprised after the discussion we had in the past that it was forbidden to reproduce their items in 3d.

That said, I find Cheyenne 9 an excellent character and the facial morph pack an instant buy for me. We have needed a solid female character to give representation to dial from for the American Continents. I did buy the pro pack because I could get a better price with everything in it that I did like. The outfits, yeah, ... sorry PAs, at least there were no high heels. I do wish the makeup had a few more options for normal makeup, besides the one. The feather headdress might be usable for a traditional tribal dancers. A young man I spoke with last week, is a member of the Navajo Nation and just returned from a gather where he participated and showed me the photos of him in his outfits.

And for anyone around the world, in the western United States, you can find Indigenous People in all walks of life, so normal clothing in your runtime will work just fine. From government, medicine, teachers, first responders, parents, kids, grandparents, religious leaders, astronaut, or your store clerk. They are just our neighbors.

There is no better way to summarise it; thank you! Cheyenne 9 is wonderful. She's really beautiful, she's full of character, she doesn't follow any of the common patterns of G9 females - and she's grown up! This will definitely be one of my favourite female characters of this generation. Let's see how good her male morphs are.

  • using a morph to make toes thinner after shoe is made

    crosswind said:

When you save the shoes as a Wearable Preset (you should always do this step... like those vendors do), there is a Shaping tab, just select the partial body morph you want.

Hi VicS!!! It's been a while!

    Yes, as crosswind says.

    So here's what we do:

First save the shoes as the support asset that they are - a conforming figure. Give it a product name and get your name in there as the author.

This will create the file so that the original OBJ is no longer needed to load the shoes.

Load them onto the figure, then dial the foot morphs to your liking.

While the pose dials are dialed up and the shoes are conformed to (fit to) the figure, select the figure (not the shoes) and save them into the library as a Wearable Preset

During the wearable preset dialog, go to the shaping tab and put a check in the box to allow shaping to be active. This isn't shaping of the shoe, but shaping morphs of the base figure.

Deselect the figure at first so that there are no check in any of the boxes.

Now open the figure's hierarchy in that shaping dialog, go to Actor > Feet... and find the morph(s) you used to get what you want, and put a check in their box.

Making wearable presets is a really cool feature allowing us to do some pretty nifty things - this is one of them!

You have my email if you have any issues.

She reminds me of Alawa, who I always thought could pass as indigineous if I did a bit of dial spinning, and Alawa was one of my favorite figures of any generation. I definintely want to buy the figure before the sale ends but I'm trying to figure out how to get the price at a certain point. I used to be able to get a g9 DO figure with HD for $20 or less now the base price for just the morph without HD is almost 20. I definitely want to HD as well so I've been doing a bit of cart juggling but I'm not getting to where I want it.

I assumed that Alawa was intended to be indigenous, as she was released as the counterpart to Dasan with the same retrofuturistic theme.

  • Importing ambelics to MD (marvellous designer)

That sounds as if you are loading the Alembic file as a blend shape/morph target. Those move the vertices along a straight line from the start position to the end, so rotations will usually shrink (or possibly stretch) the mesh and then scale back the other way.
