For me, $30 for a morph and texture is too much. She is lovely. She has a nice figure to her. But the package doesn't have the value that entices me to open up Paypal. Certainly not the starter or pro bundles. Unfortunately, as someone recently returning to this hobby after a few years away, I'm finding this to be a recurring theme.

Welcome back JonnyRay! I hadn't seen you post in a long time.

With PC membership, at under $20, she's quite reasonable, I remember what we paid for V4 Elite textures several years ago, most of which didn't even have face or body shapes (I think Rob and Marie both had face presets) and this doesn't seem that bad. I might actually spring for the bundles, because I had been thinking of doing some tongue in cheek send ups of old pulp covers and movie posters, so some of those outfits would be perfect to be chased by a dinosaur in.

    Hi Bullit,
LAMH is less resource intensive than the conforming fur that is on the Bear. The specs that you listed should handle LAMH with no sweat. It should also handle the Ursos pretty well. The BC2 presets load and render great on an AMD Quad-Core A6 with 4G of RAM which is one of our test machines.

I also have an i7 here, and you should check what speed your processor is actually running at. The i7 will throttle back as more cores are used, and even further back if the temp in the machine rises. It is not uncommon to find that an i7 has throttled as far back as 0.9Ghz (yes 900Mhz) when all cores are in use. There have been reports of even further throttling when thermal limits are hit.

If you are seeing a slowdown on loading large models, then you might want to investigate.

Rogerbee, thanks! AM's DAZ Studio environments are quite good. I just got The Lost World and did a few quick renders last night.

Carrara is Bought, was installed on old PC and looked at. Was not a jump in and go thing, so for now it's on my learn as I can list. At this time I'm putting my years of Daz Studio playing and plugins to the test, after I'm happy with one GOOD DS thing I plan to install Carrara again. Carrara will be added and enjoyed I'm sure as I learn it.

Here is a comment from Rhiana in the Carrara forum that might be encouraging on your plan to use Carrara (she was having trouble loading a scene in Carrara):

"Anyone has an idea? (besides using DazStudio… I only would do that when DazStudio becomes like Carrara regarding the menu, library, mesh manipulation, shading domain manipulation, shader room, ... and all that what makes Carrara godly)"

I think she is an even bigger fan of Carrara than I am.

P.S. Folks did recommend a workaround, plus the Carrara version of the problem scene (The Lost World) is on the way, per the PA.

My real question is why do I have no duf files to load from..only poser files?
Edit: shouldn't there be duf files in the daz studio formats?

There are indeed, see the attached screencap. The 'create Lost World.dsa' file is calling 'create Lost World nodes.duf' and hiding the vegetation to speed up the interface (dbl-click the Toggle Vegetation to commute vegetation visibility).

If you like you may call the create Lost World nodes.duf directly (although I'd not see why, since there is an icon to be used to do the job), but in that case the vegetation will be initially visible

So all the files only show up under poser formats and not in the Studio formats folder?

Yes, all the files are there. I have read some preferred to have two separate versions, one that goes into the DS formats folder and another in the Poser formats folder. Others seems to prefer a unique repo for it. I don't know, I'll consider to split things on next products...

Its all good as long as I know I have the correct files, I thought I did a fubar on the install even tho I used DIM. Now to see if my machine will render it as just loading the scene made it all but stall.

Ok, let me know if I can help. Loading the instanced version of the Lost World In DS should take at most 30 seconds.
My apologies about the confusion on the scene formats. Having only and always developed Poser-compliant content, I didn't consider that DS users would seek content in the DS formats section.

After making the Lost World, I got wondering what was still missing there, so this is today's render.

I disposed all the ecosystems to form a different layout (uplands deep down into the water), changed the sky background to a different one (I'm making a new set of backgrounds, lights and objects for Lost World), added the Ultimo Paradiso's Black Buccaner and of course the giant Kong furred with LAMH! Post-worked the two copter trails.

About using Lost World in Poser, right after the cliff has loaded, use the 'toggle vegetation' command (it's in Runtime:Libraries:scene:AM:LostWorld). The command will set the vegetation to hidden, and allow you to pan the camera, and do usual viewport operations with decent speed.
When you are all set for render, use again the 'toggle vegetation' command to unhide the vegetation, and run the render.

There is also a short guide that I wrote and might be of help: http://www.alessandromastronardi.com/the-lost-world/

Yep that did it for me.
Much better to move around :) It's really a wonderful scene.

I'm really glad you like it! :)

It said, that it would require longer loading times for Poser due the lack of instancing.
Had hoped with Carrara 8.5 it might be OK *sigh*

    So here is my experience:
Loaded in Poser 2012 the East Cliff - was there in about hmm 2 Mins. But Heck... Poser got laggy, could not really maneuver around it
(Have 12 GB RAM, and Intel Extreme Hexa Core 3,33 GHz and the Nvidea GTX 480)

    Well, Okee.
Tried that in Carrara - and well, it was at 0.03 % after 15 Minutes and if you dare click at the Carrara Window it crashes...

Anyone has an idea? (besides using DazStudio... I only would do that when DazStudio becomes like Carrara regarding the menu, library, mesh manipulation, shading domain manipulation, shader room, ... and all that what makes Carrara godly)

Hello Rhiana, Carrara version is in the works and on its way not too far...

You're welcome, I'll make sure to post news about it also on the Carrara site, when the time comes.

  • Lost World

I bought lost world http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/the-lost-world The other day and got to playing around with it

and i thought i would post the results in case anyone was interest.
I was able to render The lost world model at 1080 HD Blue ray quality,
Though i will have to say it used a lot of resources on my computer.

I rendered these pictures in Daz Studio Pro 4.6
After playing with the Light set that it came with I decided to try some renders with custom IDL with Uberenviroment2

It took 7 to 8 minutes for each a render at 1920 x 1080 I was very impressed with the results and what I can do with this environment model

One draw back though when using Uberenviroment2 lighting it takes a awfully lot of memory and cpu. so I thought i would post those results as well I render it on a older windows 7 PC with 3.33 ghz which did really great
Anyway here is the post. I can't wait to come up with something in animation for this set.

I didn't have LAMH at all. Now I have installed it. (Didn't check the version but I just downloaded it from Daz).

I clicked the Lost World-icon under Environment. In the pic you can see how the scene looks like after about 5 minutes of loading time.
There are no menues as you can see. After a few minutes more the menues appear, but as soon as I click anything it takes some more minutes before I can do anything again and nothing seems to have changed once the process is finished. (Neither the RAM nor the CPU are heavily used in the meantime).

The beaches and the water seems to lack texture. I have both double clicked and tried to merge the water mats, but that doesn't work.

p.s. Come to think of it, I did - this time - not use your recommended interface settings if that has anything to do with it. I used factory settings.

Something is not working correctly, loading LW should take at most 30 seconds; I suppose in your case it never ends loading? Also, once LW has loaded in DS, you should see no vegetation since the default script will initially hide it.
Would you be so kind to email me your DS log file, so maybe I can take a look at what's going on? My email is info_at_alessandromastronardi.com (replace _at_ with @)
