  • DazCentral: One more example of the extremely low priority of Daz's Mac users

Thanks, nemesis10. That's about what I thought. It's too long for me. My iMac's 1GB video card is not good enough for iRay. I've seen the messages in the log files. I've actually accepted the fact that I need to get a PC just so I can easily handle iRay. And I will ignore DAZ Central as long as humanly possible.

I only come back here to see if DAZ finally got over the DAZ Central Identity crisis. Is it still a Beta version? Why does the announcement say DAZ Central is for everyone, when it is not?

You know you don't really want Daz Central... it is really for newbies who don't rearrange their stuff.  I am puzzled by those people who are already using DIM (which is pretty robust when you sit down to use it), DAZ Connect which is more than fine for some of us, or those who install manually.  The image above took a bit longer because it has all the bells and whistles (DOF, a large emmisive surface as the background, figure, geoshells etc...)

Except Stonemason's new Frontier Outpost is ONLY available to download with Daz Central. I have no interest in installing or using Daz Central but now I have to because I bought Frontier Outpost. I hope this isn't a trend.

  • Frontier Outpost bought but not installable

DAZ Central isn't being forced on anyone. This is just a distribution screwup and it will be fixed before the day is out. It will be in your Catalog and available once the issue is fixed. DAZ does care about the customers.

I just bought Stonemasons Frontier Outpost (and added a free one with the coupon).

The free one appeared in my content, the Frontier Outpost did not.

I already filed a ticket, but for the last one DAZ took nearly seven weeks to answer ...
And again they are forcing a new buggy software on the users, since the new content only is downloadable through DAZ Central.
But what does DAZ care? they have my money and obviously anyway see no obligation to deliver the content bought or see that it works.

  • SHADERS : Skin Shaders Community Workshop - No links available

If it's ike the other product listing only Daz Central I think it will not work with anything, it's just that the Daz Central tag appears to be generated in a different way from the others and so appears in the absence of files to download.

  • What happened to my Install Manager links? Daz Central only.

    DIM disappears, so do I.

I trust DIM to do what it says. I have al sorts of reservations about Smart Content, and now DazCentral.

DIM, as an acronym works; it's meaning is succinct - and it does manage my installs.

Daz Central sounds (and behaves) like big brother.

Studio 4.9 felt like Daz was trying to force something down my throat; this feels the same.

Daz Central is DIM with a simplified interface and option tree, for the benefit of new users.

It quite clearly isn't, when you consider all the reports and issues folks are having. Not to mention (ok I have) all the blatant dislike.

Dislike has nothing to do with whether it is the same under the hood, the issues people have been having mostly relate to paths - the fact that Daz Central appears to overwrite custom DIM paths with the defaults is in fact evidence that it is the same code at heart.

There seems to be noting simple about it.

I don't get it; Dim presents the products I haven't downloaded; those I have but haven't installed; and, those installed. That is simple.

I can't help thinking (taking at face-value, Daz's reasons), that Daz are using a software solution to fix a communication problem - or lack of communication in the form of viable instructions. Not that DIM requires many.

Documentation doesn't stop people from being confused, sadly - it just gives the people who try to help them a reference (and, sadly, a manual for others to tell the confused to read - with added adjectives)

If you can't figure out DIM, how the hell are you going to figure out how to render anything.

  • What happened to my Install Manager links? Daz Central only.

We have sent in a query on the apparently Central-only items, as it is certainly my understanding that it uses the same fiels as DIM - in fact I was going to ask iif anyone had purchased and  been able to download at alll, so thanks for reporting on that. I suspect it's as glitch in the way the install type list is generated, and the products have not in fact been uplaoded, but we will see what Daz says.

Be aware that you can only download by way of Daz Central. And even that is not working right now.

  • SHADERS : Skin Shaders Community Workshop - No links available

I also bought another product today (dforce Sea Salt For Genesis 3 & 8 Female(s)) and there I had no issues with a manual download.

I assume they forgot to add a link on the page. Hopefully someone deals with that soon.
If this product requires Daz Central then I have to ask for a refund. It makes absolutely no sense as there is nothing to install anyway.

  • What happened to my Install Manager links? Daz Central only.

It seems that Frontier Outpost it is intentionally not available in DIM. Attached screenshot is what I got when I bought it just now ... and when I started DIM, it is not included in my Ready to Download list.

I clicked on the link where it says "Visit this order's details to manually download and install your products." and that page shows me a Manual Download link. However, clicking on that link just takes me to the Product Library where there is no download option. So it seem the only way to install Frontier Outpost is through DazCentral.

Apparently it's an issue with Frontier Outpost. Because apparently it's not even showing up in Daz Central.

Thanks. Yes, I saw that after I posted. I haven't installed DazCentral yet because the only feedback I've seen on it is about people having issues  ... and I've also never had any problems using DIM or installing things manually.

I wouldn't mind so much if I could download it in DAZ Central, but it doesn't show up in my assets. And clicking on the DAZ Central buttons on the order page simply takes me to the download page for DAZ Central... and yes, I have DAZ Central installed on my machine. It shows all the assets I purchased up until Stonemason's Frontier Outpost.

Selling us something which we can't get by any means is a problem, a BIG problem.

Well, if it isn't showing up even in Daz Central then I think it's a bug/mistake, so it should also show up in DIM when they fix it, hopefully.

    I certainly hope so.

It's doubly painful that it happened with something by Stonemason. His (or her) stuff is always excellent.

  • [FIXED] Frontier Outpost... DazCentral Only !

And on top of that, it doesn't show up in the DAZ Central assets list after purchase, leaving no way to download it.

I have sent a message to DAZ asking them about this. Waiting for a response.

  • What happened to my Install Manager links? Daz Central only.

I just noticed the new Frontier Outpost from Stonemason only says "Central" in the "Install Types" category. And it's the only item I have seen like that so far.

I'm hoping it's a mistake but I'm not buying that until I'm sure. Will wait until this is clarified before saying more but if it's indeed the case.... oooh boy....

I've just noticed that - mostly because I noticed your post; I'd finally decided to get Daisy 8 and a couple of add-ons, and a Thorne character in the $1.99 - damn it.

I've raised a ticket for a refund. Not happy.

So you bought the Frontier Outpost and it doesn't show on DIM? I mean, I don't really care if the DIM links are not on the site, I don't use them anyway. I just open DIM, install whatever I bought. But if I have to use Daz Central, well... nope. I actually wanted to like it, I just built a new rig so I tried to use it with a fresh install. It was a complete mess, so uninstalled and won't try again.

    Edit:

I wouldn't mind so much if I could download it in DAZ Central, but it doesn't show up in my assets. • What happened to my Install Manager links? Daz Central only.

Does this mean Mac users and everyone who won't use Daz Central are doomed?  When you click 'Manual Download' it takes you to your product library... where there's no download link for Frontier Outpost at all.

If this is a way to 'encourage' people to use Daz Central, it's pretty poor.  Especially if they're deliberately excluding a chunk of their market by failing to have the option available at all.

*ETA: Central, not Connect. Tho Frontier Outpost isn't available in Connect either.
