    An accurate depiction of my feelings about Michael 8.1:

    Poor Quixotry worked such wonders with her Victoria 8.1 expressions, but she obviously was outdone by Mehchael 8.1's mouth; so, she had to leave it mostly closed and give us variations on awkward dork and bashful dweeb because there was nothing to be done for his toon eyes. Rather than building off of the excellent progress that they made with Genesis 8 Male Core Figures, it appears Daz decided to scrap all that and start from scratch.

    Maybe that's what Daz were aiming for...?

    ~~~~~~
    Like V8.1, I've only bought Michael's Base.
    An $80 bundle with no pose packs (other than the wheelchair poses)... Pass.
    well, I did buy V8.1, but not all that jumping for joy over the skin texture. I can't tell the difference in that vs 8.0 or even the eyes for that matter. I fooled around with the PBR skin shader. That does seem to make some changes but you need to get into the surfaces pane and change a lot of stuff.
    Michael 8.1 is a pass, as are the bundles. Its way too pricey and absolutely no discounts for anything. I suppose 8.1 purchases will be the future buy in for banner ad discounts.
    I sincerely, sincerely hope that 8.1 is not a reset for banner discounts after so much loyalty was spent on Genesis 8 pro bundles. This is not speculation, just a hope.
    Well, sadly, my purchases of nearly all the bundles for genesis 8 core figures don't seem to count for the new Gensis 8.1 bundles. crying
    I'm really wondering whether or not to buy the pricey new Michael 8.1 bundles or not; and maybe even whether or not to return the Victoria 8.1 bundle I already got.
    I don't get it. People complained about the overly muscular guys, and when they release a small one, y'all complain about him too. But I guess the problem is that the complainers probably want a twiggy one that's like a more realistic version of Ollie but "younger and more 'handsome'."
    I have no problem with his body. It's that he's entirely too young and his skin is abysmal. It should be noted that M8.1 is still pretty muscled.
    My wish, as I've said before, is to see someone with a build like Gustaf Skarsgard...tall and lanky...particularly when he was playing Floki on Vikings.
    His "youngness" is only a problem because of his name. But then again, I'm probably the only one here who is bothered by the disproportionate amount of young female characters and equally young male characters. It's easier to age a character than make it look younger.
    Even though I don't care for lanky male characters at all, it's an odd argument to use with "Michael". He was never the skinny guy. He wasn't a younger man either (David was), but I feel that's been lacking in the bases, so I'll take it.
    Now that I think about it, perhaps this character would've been better received as "David 8.1"? Probably not, since he's not small-enough or thin-enough.
    Well, Victoria 8.1 was essentially Stephanie, so it would make sense that Michael 8.1 is actually David.
    Some of them are meme worthy, I dig those. But the outer corners of the eyes do not appear to react well to facial expressions
  • 3D Print Questions - Differences in slicer software, cost of printer.
    Absolutely agree with you, AnotherUserName.
    I've finally photographed one of my 90mm DAZ figure statues:
    Sorry it's not very in focus, my 2009 vintage camera isn't good a macro shots.
    This one is Jim Burton's Victoria 3 based 'Glamorous Vickie' with the tube based and now unavailable 'Las Vegas Hair' and the base figure's string bikini. Even the fingernails are visible, the bow on the bikini ties and the string between the two bikini top triangles. I had supports up to each finger before cutting away and filled the witness marks in the base, but none were really needed to any of the hair.
    Regards,
    Richard.
    Yes, they would.
    Also, what about resources like Breast Control. Growing Up, NPMs for Victoria 7, 200 Head Morphs for G3F,  Skin Builder Pro2, UHT2 Hair Salon 2, and whatever was imported in through GenX2?
    That's the same for all resources: unless they're specifically listed as merchant resources that you can distribute (as is or as part of a baked morph) then the person you are sharing the character with has to own the products you used.
    GenX-ed morphs are even more of a problem, as simply owning the original won't give you the data files needed to use the converted version.
    Thanks for stepping in on the Gen-X stuff. I didn't know how to respond to that.
    I do all my custom character development for my llustration work using figure and merchant resource content from Daz.
    It would need to be set up so that the person needs to own and use the base and two character shapes. That's why when you create your morph, you reverse deform so it strips out those three and leaves only what makes up your morph. As far as the morph resources, it depends on what they require, some would work like the face morph where you reverse out the resources. If you add no morph sculpting of your own, you could probably do presets that will work when they own and use the same items you used to make your morphs. You just need to carefully read the conditions under which you use the merchant resources and contact the creator if you have any doubts, to be safe. Presets for UHT.
    All that stuff needs to be negotiated between the person commissioning the project and the person doing the work.  There are all kinds of products at the Daz store and Renderosity that require third-party stuff like Growing Up and specific morph packages.
    Why would it not work?
    Poses are about bones and their rotation around XYZ axis - G8 and G8.1 share the same geometry, rigging and even the base pose. It's only expressions that may not look the same between them.
    Either they do or they don't.  Guessing isn't a good idea with Daz.
    You are absolutely right, guessing is not a good idea. I was curious myself and tried it. So far, I do not see any problem with G8. It is different with the "Michael" and "Victoria" poses. They do not exactly fit if using V8/M8 versus V8.1/M8.1
    Attached snapshot shows poses 10 and 11 of the pack with plain G8
    V8 and V8.1 have different shapes, same for M8 and M8.1. So it's normal poses optimized for one shape are not perfect for the other.
    Good to know hierarchical poses work between 8 and 8.1. "Regular" poses I expected to work, but hierarchical presets tend to have more restrictions.
    ...having difficulty in seeing how this would work without having the same content and resource products used in creating the character on the machine it is to be imported onto unless the character were converted to a .obj.  However then all rigging, morphing (like expressions and hair movement) as well as autofit would no longer work.
    You would set it up the same as any other character for sale where it requires the same base and/or character (if you use like, say, Victoria 8). If you use any merchant resources, you'll need to follow the rules for that product. If you make your own morphs, like in ZBrush, it can be easier. Again, what you make needs to require the use of the Daz figure upon which it's been based in order to work Creating an .obj would not work.
    The set I am thinking of was a character morph not a conversion
    It seems like you want the V4/M4 shape on a Genesis 3 figure. I could not find anything here or at Rendo. The only items I know of are UV map transfers, pose transfers, morph transfers, and clones. You could transfer V4 morph and dial in V4 shape.
    I don't think Legacy Generation 4 Shapes were made for G3. Only G2:
    FYIO for G8 figures:   https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8
    And for Genesis !!! {IMHO, my fav}
    And no, Sickleyield's clones do not make nice shaping morphs as I recall.
  • MimicMolly's Renders & WIPs
    This was actually my first attempt at using G8.1F, nearly forgot about this render. It was with Pretty 3D's Pretty Base character for G8F. I also decided to try the PBR Shader, but had even less of a clue about what was going on. I don't even know what's going on in this render either. She's...free-falling indoors. XD
    Since those 8.1 one threads are super active and get buried quickly. I'll share my thoughts here. After all, I'm talking about my own personal rendering. I'll list it in bullets so it would be easier to read.
    • G8.1F took a very long time to load the first time. But now she loads as quickly as the original G8F did, so I'm happy.
    • I love this "update". One of the main reasons I finally left Genesis 1 was because I liked the expressions and bending on G8 so much more. Sure I lost a lot of the Zeddicuss expressions and some E&J ones, but this wasn't too much of a loss. I like the ones that 8.1 came with.
    • With the exception of this pose set that was offered as a freebie last week, I have not purchased anything for G8.1. I don't feel I have to, for the moment, since I can use the same skins, shapes, poses, dress-up assets I've been using with G8. (It seems like most of the people complaining got really confused about the advertising. Or they're old-timers who think that once the number "has changed" they gotta throw out their past investments, when it's not really the case right now.)
    • I really like Michael 8.1's Varsity Bundle. It's the first time, in a very long time, that all of the included products have interested me. However, it's too pricey as of this post, so I've wishlisted it. (During the Christmas Season, I managed to buy Twoset 8's Pharoah Bundle. At a price that was cheaper than its debut new release price. I will wait the same for Michael 8.1, since I like a lot of things from it. In other times, I just grabbed the base and nothing else.)
    • I don't really like Victoria 8.1's shape. I think it's her nose or mouth. Tattoos aren't a selling point for me either. They rarely are. (I will never, ever get tattoos IRL, so I won't "subject" my characters to them either. Same with some of those piercings.) The only PA whose tattoos I like are from Darwin's Mishap(s). Though I'm not really into skulls or goth stuff, but they look so cool.
    • I have not rendered G8.1M at all. I'm still trying to decide which character or shaping preset I should experiment with. Should I go for what I consider to be eye-candy, or something totally random? (I'll probably render something on Friday, assuming I don't get distracted again.)
  • MimicMolly's Renders & WIPs
    EDIT: I was finally able to adjust the crop on the thumbnail, so I went ahead and finally posted this one to the DAZ Galleries [x].
    Today, I tried a different HDRI and lights, to render my attempt at recreating Glamorous Vicki with G8F (G8.1F, specifically.) This particular shape used Mei Lin 8 as a base. I think she was a bit bustier than the V3 character, but it was close-enough. The outfit was originally supposed to be from dForce LavieByCk Summer Essentials, but I wasn't happy with how the bikini bottoms looked. So I used the ones from Twilight Sorceress. Then I used two random scarves (Rocabillly Outfit for G8F and dForce Salwar Kameez) and shoes from Slinky Dress for G8F, with the Summer Essentials "shader" which was just me copying materials and placing it on the other outfits so they'd match.
    I don't like Penny 8's skin. It is my least favorite skin. So I mostly unistalled it with DIM by manually copy-pasted the head and body shapes elsewhere and then moving back to the correct folder after the unistallation was finished. (I got her because her Starter Bundle was free or deeply discounted once and I liked the items in it.) I like her shape a lot, so it wasn't much of a big loss. Here, I used Mousso's Chanel's skin. I think she looks a bit like Nicole Kidman here and that wasn't my intention.
    These were Chanel's skin + 4.15 PBR Iray skin shaders. I don't think I used them right but it's understandable, because I don't know what I'm doing. (I still don't understand Filament.) But it doesn't matter as long as the results look nice to me.
    Hair is Fane Hair for G8F. I just decided to move it back so y'all could see her face better.
