I think the similarity to Victoria 9 might be a bit overstated in this thread - she looks distinct to me. Perhaps Daz should have made the main promo blonde(-ish) with less or no freckles to avoid calling V9 to mind. That is what the first headshot shows - blonde brows and clear skin - and she looks better there than the main promo.

But regardless, if she is a Vicky variant, she's one that appeals - unlike Victoria 9 herself. Lauryn 9 and Julian 9 are essentially "what Victoria 9 and Michael 9 should have been" - in a better world. ;)
(Reminds me of Van Helsing 9, which I also think is a better Victoria 9 than the actual Victoria 9.)

Yeah, she's definitely built for the, let's say, more intimate kind of material.  Similar to Elena in the form, but closer to Victoria with the skin.

I see all of the above.

Does anyone know if you can use the Cervitaur with other feminine figures, or is Lauryn 9 really required?

Nice renders, Sid.  I enjoy her-the freckled skin feels like an upgraded variation of Victoria.  Even though I don't like the centaurs, all the products released today are pretty good quality, so that's an absolute win for me.

I'm not loving her. She's stylised, I usually prefer realistic. She might suit other's tastes more. Not mad though. I got so much good stuff yesterday!

    Pictured with the deer.

Max freckle. The hair looks ok but is difficult to pose. I'm not sure why it has dforce, I can't quite see any simulation happening. It clips the chest because I was impatient and couldn't fix it after about five minutes. Swapped out the eyebrows and eyelashes. Attached a no-freckle version.

Pictured with Victoria and Lianna. (My girl crush goes to Lianna)

Last picture I was more have a play with an experimental omni-skin-shader thing, but it was hard to light both characters. That guy's skin just glows! I like the fjaa3d outfit, as always. Her huge chest causes some clipping.

Very disappointing that Premier members only get the less interesting of the two new core figures: A Victoria 9 variation, quite nice and with pretty body, but what feels like the 145th white female since the start of Generation 9.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed

EDIT: The Centaur bundle has been added to the Premier Characters. Thanks, Daz

    Yes, it was just fixed

I saw it and bought this bundle immediately. It's simply great; I love every single item!

I compared her HD to Victoria 7's and yeah, less detail from what I could see. For some reason knees are considered Mature Content. Really? But, I can wait six to nine months for her price to drop. I do know my first reaction when I saw her was why was Daz releasing Victoria 9 as a Centaur? After looking at her more, she is not the exact same sculpt but she is so close I could modify V9 if I wanted her.

I swore off the centaurs when I found I had never used them. And I do love Greek and Roman mythology. I do appreciate that the PAs created the clothing/armor so it could be used by humans or centaurs. That is nice. So I will buy the bits I like and leave the rest for whenever, if ever.

What I can't figure out is how both morphs were on the figure.

I don't know why it caused problem with auto-follow in your case, but it's not something unheard: I have a couple of Genesis 9 characters that need to have both their own body morph and Genesis 9 Base Feminine morph dialed in to look as intended.

It's not different than characters for Victoria 8 or Olympia 7 that have existed before.

  • How to have 2 installations of daz studio?

    hello.
i would like to install a new instance of daz studio. how can i do that?
    i will explain my need.
i have many products between generation 3 and 4 and genesis 1,2,3 and 8
Some products are freeware, of very bad quality, installed in various directories.
i would like an instance with only products from genesis 3, 8 and 9 and retrieve the best products for victoria and michael 4
i was thinking to install the products on 2 different directories.
Is it possible to do this, without losing the current CSM? Can I create a rollback operation?
or is it better to install everything using another windows account? (Since the database resides in the roaming directory).

    Thank you.

The new "Show Hidden Nodes" option in the context menu for the Scene pane doesn't seem to be working for me, or I'm using it wrong.

    How I tested;

load scene...for example a sofa with pillows parented to it.

Hide a pillow using the "eye" icon in Scene pane next to it's name.

Uncheck everything except for "Show Hidden Nodes"

Scene pane will be empty nothing showing.

Check "Show Objects" and the whole thing reappears in Scene pane.

This will be a fantastic utility feature for busy scenes where one must hide a wall that's buried deep in a group and one can't recall the name of the wall.

Nodes can be hidden so that they don't show in the Scene pane, rather than so that they are not visible in the Viewport (which is controlled by the eye icon and the Visible button in Parameters). For example the dForms that handled a lot of the work usually done by JCMs on Victoria 4 were hidden nodes so that they didn't clutter the Scene pane and couldn't be selected and accidentally adjusted in a way that would stop them from workiing. The Show Hidden Nodes allows such nodes to be seen on the rare occasions that they do need to be interacted with, and has been there for a long time (since http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_6_2_120#4_6_2_112 we are told, though I think it was possible to acces them in some way before that).

The test version of DAZ studio 2025 has been released. This is undoubtedly an exciting piece of news!

I've been thinking about changing my graphics card recently, but I've been struggling to decide whether to choose the 5090 or the 5080.

Could everyone on the forum tell me how much better the 5090 is than the 5080 in the use of Daz? Thank you very much!

We have two results from the benchmark thread:
    NVidia GeForce RTX 5090:    1800.0 iterations, 48.027 s
    NVidia GeForce RTX 5080:    1800.0 iterations, after 01:17.385 = 77.385 s
    5090 is around 37.9% faster than a 5080

Late to my own discussion here (lots going on IRL), but if I'm seeing that correctly, the 5080 is about on par with the 4090, just with 8GB less RAM...maybe even a touch faster.

RAM wise...I know things are getting bigger, but when I had my 4090, I gave myself a "Vicky Challenge".  Kept loading Victoria 8 into the scene till the render became GPU fallback.  I forget how many I had, but I eventually got bored and gave up.

Adding new V8s (or any other figure being added again and again), will not load new textures into the GPU, only extra geometry, which takes a fraction of the space of the textures. If you had ensured all the new V8s were sub-d 5, or more, then it could well have made you run out of GPU quicker. V8s on sub-d 1 or 2 don't use a huge amount of VRAM for the geometry, so you could indeed load quite a lot of them (though I would expect Daz Studio to crash at some point if it ran out of normal memory).

  • barbult's take on the lives of Jack and Richard

    Um Gottes Willen!

Jack stands dismayed by the mess that Richard left behind, unaware that he was being spied on by barbult's friend the crow on the window sill. All of a sudden, Jack hears the front door open. Uh oh, Jack's wife is home!

Wife: I'm home, Jack. UM GOTTES WILLEN! WAS HAST DU HIER GEMACHT? UNSER HAUS IST KAPUTT! [When stressed, her native German comes out (I made this up; I know nothing about Jack's wife)]. You let Richard in here again, didn't you! Don't try to deny it; I see the paw prints. When will you learn? And put the window back in the window frame before this house is full of birds and bugs.

Wife: (looking around for barbult) Speaking of birds...

Jack: Will you look at the time! I need to post the Daz+ Render Contest thread. Gotta go!

Jack: (running down the hall, calls back): Don't step in the glue!

    Some Reader Comments:

Llola Lane: grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Leavin' the mess for the wifey to clean up!  Shame shame... (typical man!)  :P  LOL
Richard Haseltine (to LlolaLane) even more typical cat (it appears I may have been a bad influence)
barbult (back to Richard): Ya think? laugh
SapphireBlue: "Spied on by barbult's friend the crow" ?? Um, the plot thickens. I think this might go all the way to 7 seasons! You might as well bring in some dragons soon... cheeky
barbult: I just bought the crow today, so I threw him in the scene. I don't know if he will appear again. Perhaps...

    Avatar Selfie

Jack snaps a quick avatar selfie with his new hat for the Daz+sale.

    The End

Raven: (on the phone with Puff) You hear what happened to barbult? ... Yes, Richard did it. Listen, we're all getting together at SapphireBlue's house, Wednesday afternoon at 4. Can you make it?... That's right, we're gonna give Richard what he deserves!... See you then.
Puff: Will barbult ever be caged again?
    Raven: Nevermore!

OK, now you can choose your preferred interpretation of the conversation above. Was Richard a hero, or was Richard a scoundrel?

    Richard the Hero

barbult: High five, Richard, you pulled it off! I wish you hadn't pulled off so many feathers, though.
Richard: I had to make it look convincing. Jack's no fool! You got out of that window just fine when I gave you a little toss.
barbult: Thank goodness SapphireBlue picked me up and took me home.
Richard: Well she did a fine job of healing you. You look as good as new.
The gang: To Richard, our hero! For he's a jolly good feline. For he's a jolly good feline. For he's a jolly good feeeeeliiiiine, which no birdy can deny! To Richard!!!!

    Richard the Hero

    Richard the Scoundrel

Crow: OK, gang, I've been spying on Jack and Richard. They meet every Wednesday for tea at 4 in the afternoon. Jack's wife has banned Richard from the house, so they have their tea outside on Jack's picnic table.
Raven: Here's the plan. We call it Operation Whitewash. First, barbult will swoop in and snatch Jack's hat. Then the rest of us fly over in formation and drop all we've got. Crow will lead the way; he's got the place scoped out. Puff, you'll bring up the rear. You've got the biggest payload capacity. You'll deliver the coup de grâce!
The gang: Let's go! Let's go! We'll give 'em what they deserve!
(The flapping of many wings is heard...)
Jack: My Hat! Eek! Run, Richard, run!
Richard: I'm ahead of you, but they're too fast!

    Richard the Scoundrel

    Some Reader Comments:

Richard Haseltine: Um, uh, oh. /me hopes for the best
barbult (back to Richard) smiley You must survive, and Jack, too, to appear in my future "roasts". It has become a tradition now, I believe.
My mother always said "If they didn't like you, they wouldn't bother to tease you; they'd just ignore you."
tsroemi: Oh I love your story!!! The hero ending's best in my view, also like the render the most
bohemian3: And you deserve an Emmy for Jack and his Hat
    barbult (back to bohemian3)
Oh, my! I accept your nomination, and I feel another render coming on. We had "The End", but I think we need a "Postscript".

    Postscript - The Emmys

Female Presenter: In the category of "Best Imaginary Documentary About a Cat and a Hat", the nominees are:

    • Theodor Seuss Geisel for "The Cat in the Hat" Season 37, Episode 19 "The Hat Ate the Cat",
    • barbult for "Jack and His Hat",
    • Victoria 9 for "I'm Not the Cat 8 You Were Wishing For"

Announcer Voice-over: This is the 37th nomination for Theodor Seuss Geisel. If he wins tonight, it will be his 37th consecutive win. barbult is a first time nominee. Unfortunately, Victoria 9 has been eliminated from this category at the last minute, for failure to appear!

Male Presenter: And the Emmy goes to...barbult for "Jack and His Hat"!

Announcer Voice-over: This is a first time win for barbult, a newcomer to the competition. This is quite an upset, ending the consecutive run of Theodor Seuss Geisel.

[incredulous applause from the shocked audience]

  • Auto Fit

    richardandtracy said:

I agree that it would be nice to have the clothing generation auto selected, however it would be very difficult to auto select the best template when doing the autofitting.

Each generation comes with a certain number of clothing templates, but it is possible to buy different/better ones and for you to create your own. How, then, would DS know to use the SickleYield short dress templete instead of your own custom one, or the long dress template? I don't think it could, and I'm not sure it'd be possible for DS to try each one & decide which is 'best' - mostly because defining 'best' is well nigh impossible because 'best' can be different in different cases.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

    Regards,

    Richard

Well I've been using Daz since Victoria 5 was the current generation and I've never heard of these clothing templates. I've never seen anything in the auto fit dialog about these templates. There's 2 things to choose in the auto fit dialog, which generation and what type of clothing, I never tell it which type of clothing, and it works just fine. Are you suggesting auto fit can't be updated and improved because of these templates? That's absurd if you ask me.
