New game like render engine in the works?
Filament looks really nice for archviz, but they don't show renders of organic surfaces like skin, hair or leaves and that. Still. Looks really promising.
New game like render engine in the works? The Changelog for DS Beta 4.12.1.97 initially had listed the implementation of Google Filament which is indeed a real time render engine. As far as I remember there was something written abount material conversions from iray to filament as well. I can´t say more about it since I didn´t even know this engine exists until I did a quick search.
Unfortunately it has been removed before the release of this version of DS. It probably was not ready yet for publishing. But there defnitely seems to be something in the works.
Can use another render engine? No. Maybe in a few months the Google Filament render engine will be available in DAZ Studio. As it's cross platform it will surely be slower than iRay but likely much faster than iRay CPU rendering if nVidia, intel or AMD GPUs are the graphics engine on the target platform.
Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)I have no idea if it's been answered further upthread and I've come across roadblocks finding an answer: is Face Transfer going to be made available to Mac users soon?
Is there a rough estrimate, say in months, of when the Filament renderer is going to be released in a public beta version of DAZ Studio?
I am afraid these are both answered with we don't know as Daz hasn't said.

Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)I now have something new to get hopeful about. I'd never heard of Google Filament before today but, having looked it up, it looks very encouraging.
https://github.com/google/filament
I wonder whether that would require an updated version of OpenGL and a better viewport experience? I really hope we can look forward to this being implemented soon. Then, onwards to soft-body physics via a much improved and faster dForce, perhaps. One can but wish.
Filament:
APIs
- Native C++ API for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows
- Java/JNI API for Android, Linux, macOS and Windows
- JavaScript API
Backends
- OpenGL 4.1+ for Linux, macOS and Windows
- OpenGL ES 3.0+ for Android and iOS
- Metal for macOS and iOS
- Vulkan 1.0 for Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows
- WebGL 2.0 for all platforms
Although see many past Google projects that have been dropped. It's pretty odd that they support all those graphics APIs. Not complaining if they do manage it though as it means ATI GPUs will be supported.

Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)
According to the change log of Version 4.12.1.97 DAZ implementet Google Filament as an optional draw style.
I‘ve never heard about it but a quick search showed that it‘s an open source real time renderer.
So i was very excited that we finally seem get an equivalent to Blender‘s Eevee for Daz Studio.
Now that the new beta is released i can't find anything about that feature inside DS.
Has it been taken out for further investigation before release or am i missing anything here?
Any information about that topic would be much appreciated. It has been removed for the time being. See the last entry in the Change Log.
Oh I totally missed that entry.
Thank you very much Doc!Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)

Pretty much. DS employs a file saving scheme whereby only specific scene parameters are saved in a file. Meaning that yet-to-be-released features are left to their own devices as to parameter states when loading a file from a previous applciation version. Simply opening a past scene in the new DS version and re-saving it binds the values of those new parameters going forward. Luckily for us in a non-destructive fashion (unlike eg. many Adobe applications, that require a sometimes lengthy "conversion" process to open old file saves in more recent application versions.)
ETA: And yeah, also very intrigued to see how SSIM performs (been tracking mentions of its existence in Iray documentation for at least 4 months now.)
Am also interested to see how Daz's implementation of Filament as a PBR alternative to Iray turns out once it actually makes it into the public release.
strange issues with cutout opacity please confirm anyone@Richard Never heard of filament before thank you for the news that's interesting. The fact that materials have to be compiled offline doesn't sound friendly for authoring but I guess that's minor.
Converting Sci-Fi Circular SkyWalk from 3dlight to iray, any advice from experience? :DOkay, did most of that now. Haven't added made any changes to the walls or ceiling, though, but did do everything else you suggested. For some reason, in mine, the glow from the filament is much more dominating the fixture. This may have something to do with what shader I applied to the Lense surface, in this case I THINK I used Glass - Solid - Clear (from the DAZ Uber shader set), maybe I should have used Glass- Thin - Clear instead?
Converting Sci-Fi Circular SkyWalk from 3dlight to iray, any advice from experience? :DFor the tubes, apply the DAZ Uber Emissive shader to the "filament" surfaces. Ctrl-double-click and chose Apply: Images->Ignore (not that there are any in this case). Set the Emission color to whatever the diffuse color is (some dark red) and adjust the temperature (~4000 K) and luminance (i.e., 200 Kcd/m^2). The original used ambient, which does not translate in Iray, to get the red glow, and the point lights for highlights.
Do the same for the doorway lamps, on the "glass" surface, using the same emission color as the base color (a medium-dark teal). Blue lights are usually hotter, so temperature to 6500 K, luminosity to maybe 100-200 Kcd/m^2. Again, the original had ambient and a pointlight for the glow, and spotlights to illuminate. With emissive surfaces, you don't really need anything else..
I did drop the Exposure Value to 12 to brighten things up a bit, even with the sun shining in the windows. There is no other lighting other than the wall lamps and the red floor lights in there, so it will be pretty dark. Adding metallicity to the walls and ceiling, and some glossy roughness to prevent a mirror-like finish (not a good look) bounce and scatter the light a bit.
Do you own a 3D printer? You need to use Copper 3D PLACTIVE AN¹™ Antimicrobial PLA Filament. As noted it's about $100 a role, and as might be expected, it's getting harder to find in stock.
Do you own a 3D printer?specific filament is needed ... where do you get it? I read a comment on another site that it cost around $100 a spool, but no links for it.
How are you greeting the end of the world?I'm not in the highly at risk category but I am getting more cautious. I just received a package of filament for my 3D printer. Instead of opening it and getting started at once I've put it in the back room, washed my hands and I'm leaving it for four days before touching it again. That sounds like long enough for any virus on the box to die off accoording to most reports I've read. I don't know if this is necessary or even if it is good enough but I'll do it and hope for the best.
I just got some vitamins delivered from Amazon. I opened the box then washed both my hands AND the vitamin bottle for 20 seconds lol. But I also have a bunch of mail. I hope none of it is time sensitive because I really don't feel like dealing with it.
BTW, I read that Amazon is either stopping or lowering deliveries of non-essential items. Luckily I have enough aromatherapy bubble bath to get me through this crisis lol.
So maybe this is a dumb question ,but from when do we start counting the 14 days of self isolation? The last time we go out ? I am confused ,but considering on average I only get out about once every 2-3 weeks anyway ,just wondering .
I'm staying in until LA County officially says it's OK to go out again. I didn't go on a hoarding food spree and think I have enough food for 14 days but I have protein powder and red & green powders as a back up. I can, of course, venture out to get food but would rather not. Stay in until your government says it's OK to go out again. 14 days from yesterday at least to be safe.
How are you greeting the end of the world? In the UK the government is now telling people not to go to pubs, clubs or restauants but isn't telling them to close. Some people are saying this will kill their business but without an offical order to close they can't claim any insurance or compensation to cover it.

nothing wrong with being couscous. playing it safe is good cheap insurance for your health

Annoying accidental re-parenting problem.Sorry...
One other thing to consider too. We have a memory-mode that can sort-of interfere with adapting to changes. Sometimes, when mice are 100% new, that point where we stop pressing down is just after the click, and we expect it to sustain the HOLD, until we hear it click again, as it rises. However, the click is not actually related to the actual contact. There could be a chance that you are just hovering at that click-level, and not sustaining enough pressure to actually hold the contact of the switch closed. The click is simply from a seperate tension-spring-leaf, because people don't like quiet buttons. The actual contact is a rubberized micro-contact-pad or a quiet slide-contact, which has little noise or movement, so it lasts longer. Clicky things break faster than quiet sliding things and silent rubber things. That is why people hate quiet rubber keyboards that don't click when you type, but they last almost forever... In a closet, in a box, unused. :P
Do you have a trackpad too? I am seeing a lot of issues with double-clicks related to "Magic mice" and "trackpads", used in combination. The issue is often the trackpad. (Also a common issue with laptops, as most have trackpads. When they fail, they have that same ghost-clicking, just from heat expansion or sounds, as the trackpad sensors are sooo sensitive.)
I see it is wireless... More odd things to check...
Are you too far away from the wireless sensor? (Sometimes people put the sensor on the back of the computer, it needs to be in the front, unobstructed from RF noise and metal of the internal computer components.)
Do you have any CFL lights? (Not LED, but the older spiral lights. They can emit an RF signal that interferes with the RF signal of many computer devices. When the bulbs are about to die, they get worse. Just move those lights away from the computer, if you can. Or try replacing the bulb with a new bulb or a LED bulb, or an older filament bulb which is dead-quiet in the RF world. The internal gain control and noise filters in the wireless sensor can't keep up with the noise as they get older.)
Do you have a WiFi device, router or modem close by your computer? (Same issue with similar wireless devices. The frequency may not be the same, but noise is noise, on all frequencies. They all emit noise. Best to have each wireless device that can be further, be further away from more critical devices that you NEED to function flawlessly.)
All those can make the mouse signals drop, or force it to "repeat" a lost signal. Leading to some of the same issues. A growing problem as everything is now broadcasting WiFi and Bluetooth and custom wireless signals, in an already polluted RF flooded world. (Cancer is on the rise, gee, why? lol.)
Does UNDO restore the parenting issue? Not sure what keys you use on a Mac. However, I know that Daz is real selective with the things it can actually undo, not undoing many things that you would expect it to undo, and instead, undoing something else that you didn't want it to undo, which it won't redo, at times, when it is the wrong thing that got undone.
