  • DazCentral suddenly won't load

    SofaCitizen said:

Well, I don't think there was an "official" annoucement as such - the link I edited into my previous post would be the closest to an announcement that I know about. But it was quietly swapped out for DIM on the site and DIM has had a few improvements lately.

I wasn't a user of Central myself so would not know what features you are now losing - there is the product view under your account: daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files - I assume that is not the same visual list of your products that DazCentral gave you?

Okay. I hadn't noticed that link before - thanks for that. I certainly haven't seen anything about it before.

It's all extremely disappointing. The product view doesn't begin to compare in terms of usefulness. It's just a list of names of the products one owns. One has to click each one, one by one, to remind oneself what the asset looks like. With DazCentral one could very rapidly scroll down all the pictures of one's assets and pick out what might be suitable for a given situation, or even to simply remind oneself of all the assets one has bought. When one has literally thousands of assets it's a massive timesaver. A picture paints a thousand words, as they say.

It is incomprensible to me that this useful feature has been removed. It's definitely going to crimp my style, and will certainly put me off regularly buying so many assets on a whim - it's hard enough keeping track of what I've got as it is. This will make it absolutely impossible. Absolutely p****d off I must say. :(

I believe that Daz Central is now discontinued in favour of using DIM. There have been a few posts in the forums about it.

See this link for more info - seems it was due to shut down on the 15th November.

You should be able to fire up DIM (Daz Install Manager) and get access to all the products you have purchased so they will not be lost at all.

A blank interface usually means Daz Studio was still runing, possibly in the process of shutting down in the background and so not shwoing on the taskbar, when the new version was isntalled. uninstaling and reinstalling fixes that, it doesn't matter which method is used.

Thanks, but, again, everything was already fixed. I just did the update in Daz Central and it started to work again. It took me only a few minutes to find the solution.

I was just pointing out, for your informtation, that the issue was installing while DS was runing - it had nothing to do with the method used, reinstalling with DIM would also have worked.

I never update Daz or any other software while it's running... Not a good practice...

Daz Studio may stay runing for a while, doing clean-up, after it has gone from the Task Bar - would you have checked Task Manager to see that it had finished?

  • Error initializing OpenCL kernels

    Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving!

This moring I'm having a problem with dForce.  Daz crashed a couple of times after I recovered from a Windows blue screen.  When I got my scene file reloaded, Daz reported that the kernels need to be recompiled.  I allowed it of course.  Then it gave me the message in the subject line.  What I've tried:

Restart Daz and open a very simple dForce scene.  Same result..

Restart the computer and try again..  Same result.

Reinstall Daz 4.22 and try again.  Same result.

I used to use Daz Central to navigate me to products within Daz.

Now that Daz Central will not load for me and is apparently discontinued, is there another way to easily identify and find product locations when working in Daz?

Havent been keeping up with Daz lately. Is central being discontinued? I quite enjoyed it, to be honest and it would be a shame if it is getting deleted.

Yes, many of its featues (though not the large images in the grid view) have been moved to Install Manager and that is now the only installer application.

  • Daz Central not connecting

You should use Instal Manager instead - Daz Central is coming to the end of its life, though I thought it was due to die on the 25th. Edit:15th, I was right on the final digit at least. It may not have been fully switched off yet, but it is certainly on its way out and should be replaced with Install manager - which will see the existing instalaltions from Daz Central.

But is Daz Central over for good? I'm going to install Daz in my new computer and I can't even find it to download...

    Yes.

You mean it isn't showing as available to install (or installed) in Install manager, or that you can't access DIM itself?

No. Don't worry. I managed to install it perfectly using DIM. I was just curious because, when I started using Daz, I installed it using Daz Central (I still have it on my laptop), and, since I never made a clear install using DIM and thought Daz Central quite straightforward, I looked for it. But everything worked fine and, honestly, I can live without it because, lately, I was only using DIM. The only curious thing is that, on my laptop, when Daz was updated to 4.22, when I updated it through DIM, the interface was blank... I had to install it again using Daz Central (which, the last time I opened it, probably when 4.22 was released, was still working). But, on my desktop which will be my main machine (I use the laptop mostly for character creation), everything went fine and Daz is fully operational (and probably better installed, since, on my laptop, it was my first, and I moved it from drive C to D along with the database, so, though also operational, I don't think it's the best installed Daz...). I don't think Daz Central it ever showed as available to install in DIM... When I used it, it was downloaded directly when I clicked the "Download Studio" button on this site (and, now it shows DIM).

  • Daz studio 4.22 IRAY problem

Out Of Touch hairs or shaders? This is a known issue, though if you use Daz Central/Install Manager or manual installs several of them have been updated to fix the problem, try checking recent ones for updates (it's a shared file so one updated install after any old ones should resolve the issue). If you can't resolve the issue that way select the hair, go to the Surafces pane and in the Editor tab select the hair again, then make sure that the transmitted colour doesn't have a map applied. This issue is in the release theads so I am closing thie one.

  • Conversuion of Poser clothes to DAZ clothes?

Poser clothes, or any other Poser items for that matter, work in Daz Studio natively. You will probably need autofit clone/s or a converter like these offered by Riversoft Arts & Sickleyield, if the clothing was made for an older generation than you want to use the items on. For example, if the Poser clothing was for Victoria 4 or Michael 4 and you use Genesis 8 figures. When it comes to shaders/textures, older Poser content usually has optimized DS MATs for 3DL render engine & you may need to apply the base Iray shader at the least.

When installed with DIM (unsure about Daz Central), you will find the content in a separate main directory. I can't recall the exact name but it includes Poser in the name.

File structure is different; look under Figures/Clothing/Artist or Figures/Clothing/Model name for the mesh. Materials are usually found in either separate Materials or Poses folder (often with MAT in the file name to distinguish from figure poses).

Note on Poser dynamic clothes: I recall reading here that these items often dForce well, but you'd have to experiment with settings, since of course it won't have any built in.
