  • Weird hair line on M4 when rendered

Hello, has anyone experienced an issue with Michael 4's default hair that shows a visible line separating the front of his hair from the back? This only shows up after rendering and I want to correct this without using Photoshop to hide the line. Please view my attached photo.

    Thanks!

Try this set http://www.daz3d.com/shop/michael-4-martial-arts-interactive-pcs It's not mentioned but includes a Gen4 Pose set so it works on ALL Gen4 figures not just M4. I have it, it even has lots of V4 poses.

  • S.E. Asian Shields ('Smart+' Props for Poser and DAZ Studio) [DS Reflection Oddness?]

Available for download from ShareCG and Renderosity Freestuff. Don't forget the additional textures and shaders also available at ShareCG and Renderosity (see later posts in this thread for details)

Three 'Smart+' shield props for Poser and DAZ Studio, based on photographs of historical S.E.Asian punch-grip shields from various Thai palaces, temples, museums, and private collections.

There's a single texture for each shield in both 'new' (as in the main promo) and 'worn' versions.

Why 'Smart+'? Well, it's like a smartprop, but it works with 28 figures...
    - DAZ Gen 3: Aiko 3, David, Hiro 3, Laura 3, Luke 3, Michael 3, Stephanie Petite 3, The FREAK, The Girl, Victoria 3.
    - DAZ Gen 4: Michael 4, Victoria 4 (should work with all variants, e.g. Aiko 4, etc)
    - DAZ Gen 5: Genesis (base figure),
    - Poser 5: P5 Don, P5 Judy.
    - Poser 6: P6 James, P6 Jessi, Miki 2.
    - Poser 7: G2 James, G2 Jessi.
    - Sixus 1: Behemoth, PH Female, PH Male.
    - Others: Antonia, Apollo, F202 Dollie, Kirwyn's K, MayaDoll.
...and automatically applies a hand pose to grip the shield!

Tested in DAZ Studio 3 and 4, and Poser 6, 8, and 9 on a windows PC.

(compatible with the 'PropGoto+' DAZ Studio/Poser scripts from my S.E. Asian Duel)

  • Need suggestions for a character render

    Eustace Scrubb said:
For that sort of skin tone, I am partial to VanishingPoint's free VC textures for the Gen3 DAZ figures, myself. Doesn't have to be Asian: with the right morph set, I could probably do the Cherokee linguist Sequoyah. Then either use Hiro (and Capsces' Hitoro) or M3, with whichever morphs best suit the effect.

I'm partial to those textures myself; I just upconverted the male texture to M4 with TC2, and they had surprisingly little stretching on the head and armpit/chest, unlike other textures.

Actually, to get the skintones right, you could try the free rDNA Skintones for V4 from ShareCG (it's only set of a diffuse tones preset; works on any Gen4 texture not just V4). It has a range of diffuse undertones, and as long as you don't go too dark, it should help get the right tone on any skin. That way, you could try using Yago, if you wanted. I used it to make Soul Vampire from RDNA look ... well, not dead, mostly. I wasn't really aiming for Mediterranean.

That said, allowing for the lack of specificity in the requirements, Yago may read as too old and too scarred for what they want. I'm guessing with that lack of information, a very strongly defined character like that may be a bit more than they're looking for.

If you can use earlier generation figures and textures, Hong M3 by Vanishing Point would be a good texture, yes (although Hong himself understandably reads as distinctly Asian).

If you don't mind spending a bit of money, you could also try ART Kieran from here (I think he works much better on David than on M3, meself), but again, you'd need to put the texture over an older character morph. Or, if you really need M4 and not earlier, you could try the texture from Santo International or Jepe's Ian-Pierre, but both character morphs are far too young for what you need. For that matter, maybe Jepe's Rodan 2 would work; he's actually designed to be a bit older. (Then again, if you don't already have him, that may be a touch more than you'd want to spend; I got him in the PA sale and didn't remember the price.)

Or ... you could try Clifford from ShareCG or Kevin for M4 by the same person. They're both older base characters to start with, so you can always just swap in a different texture, and you can always swap in darker eye colors from other characters, if needed. If you think those textures would work but are too fair, you can try using the Skintones on them.

  • Daz Studio, Poser, Genesis...

    midnight_stories said:
I always think for the future and realistically DAZ is never going to produce another poser figure, it will always be based around the genesis figure. There will be a point in time where poser users will be so sick of M4 and V4 figure that they will venture over to have a look at the genesis stuff. Already genesis can do more in poser than an other poser figure before the morph and figure base is huge. I fully expect they will adopt the system to other figure types such as animals. SmithMicro to there credit has worked with DAZ to get genesis over the line so in some way DAZ has helped keep poser going, but that's only my opinion. SmithMicro just can't churn out the figures like DAZ. If Poser could get Sud-D technology in there they could start a whole new age for poser and DAZ users, and bring them back together again. Well that's my 2cents. I'm sure I'll get a few stones thrown at me but I got think skin LOL!

I think you way overestimate Poser's dependence on DAZ, as Anastasia, Tyler, Miki, Antonia, My Michelle, etc. show, any one of which is just as good or better than Genesis, IMO. The real problem is getting vendors to support these alternate figures rather than the usual DAZ ones, but nevertheless Poser users have alternatives. Don't get me wrong, I think Michael 5 is very impressive (though I can't say the same about Victoria 5 or the other Genesis figures, which are just another human figure, IMO). Genesis's strength seems primarily as creatures rather than humans; overall, I think Gen4 or the other Poser alternatives are better for human figures with the exception of Michael 5, as I noted above. Considering I'm broke and can't afford clothes, however, I'll still be using Michael 4 primarily for the time being.

I'll be interested to see how the Kids 5 turn out--Poser/DAZ still lacks a really high quality child figure.

  • No-Eyebrows Face Textures List

    GhostofMacbeth said:
It is an argument against it because there is no way that the one level of mesh on M4 or the zero level of mesh can successfully fill in all of the brow needs for a male texture. It does better with a very plucked female eyebrow but the levels of detail just aren't there for male textures unless you want them to look plucked, as well. I always include eyebrow textures on the eyebrow map but, in my mind, they have to be in addition to the ones on the texture map . . .

Double-layer eyebrows = extra-realistic? I won't argue with that! But I don't see it as a reason for PAs not to also include a no-eyebrow face-texture option (in products with hair and beard options, even just one no-eyebrow/no-hair/no-beard one would be helpful). That doesn't prevent anyone from setting up double layered eyebrows, and it helps keep the hair color consistent.
Whoo-hoo! I knew it had to be back there somewhere! In the topic for Marieah's 1-Click Brows freebie there are links to several M4 products with a no-eyebrow face-texture option, all of which (of course) can also be used on Genesis:

    Remendado for M4 by Marieah

    Dancaire for M4 by Marieah

    Zareb for M4 by Marieah

Uncle Albert for M4 by Marieah

Dirty Boy for M4 by Marieah

    Ravenhurst for M4 by draagonstorm

    Julian for M4 by Balaenanun

    Giacomo for M4/H4 by Arki

    Gossamer for M4/H4 by Morris

Also, I could've sworn that (back in maybe 2010 or 2011) on one PA's product topic, when I mentioned why I wanted a no-eyebrow face texture option, they put it up as a freebie -- I'm ashamed to say I can't remember the PA or the product. :red: If anybody remembers post it here please.

  • Need suggestions for a character render

I've been given a description - if you can call it that - of a person and asked to make a render of him. The description is "Middle-aged black-haired male of Mediterranean descent, otherwise nondescript." (There's nothing like a really detailed character description, and this is nothing like a really detailed character description... :-S The character's background hints at him being either northern or eastern Mediterranean, which helps a bit.)

Whatever I come up with, I'll be expected to share the "recipe" (not the files themselves, just the list of ingredients) with some other 3D artists, at least one of whom uses Blender instead of Daz Studio or Poser. Thus, Genesis is out. Everybody involved does have Michael 4, though.

Are there any nondescript Mediterranean males for M4 out there already? If not, what textures and morphs (injection or dial-spun) would people recommend?

Lest We Forget - The Suffragist

It has been 92 years, 2 months and 17 days that we as American women have had the US Constitutional right to vote. In two days we as "citizens" of the United States will be asked to invoke that right once again. I hope that you will not waste such a precious gift as was given by these women. They never got to see the 19th Amendment ratified by all 48 states. That event did not occur until March 22, 1984 when Mississippi ratified the amendment 84 years later. It took these women 50 years just to get the amendment into Congress, in those days that was at least 2 generations working together to reach their goals. Pretty amazing when we start complaining about issues not getting resolved in less than 10 years. I know that we are more inclined to admire the people that have more dangerous jobs but the Suffragist should be as admired as the others. It is her tenacity, diligence, wiliness to face censure and physical danger that should make her one of our heroes. So don't forget to vote.

I must admit that, of all the takes on the theme I expected to see, I didn't expect this to be one of them...

As the host, I should refrain from offering commentary on any of the entries - especially the early ones. I don't want other people's creativity to be channeled by what they think I want to see (other than what I posted when I revealed the theme), after all. I must remember to comment on the entries after the winners are announced...

As for the freebies, your link for "Taarna" currently points to "Cosplay Costume 5 for V4." While I'd appreciate a fixed link, you have more than enough other free items to qualify.

  • Very disappointed and confused with Hiro 5

    JohnDelaquiox said:
I am a very disappointed with Hiro 5. For one its almost laterally just the head and body morph. What happened to all the great morphs we use to get? Now I don't want to see people start plugging Gen X for Genesis I know its there and I know what it does and I don't need or want it.

Hiro 4 Morph for Michael 4 Brought to start

    6 Anime Head Styles:
    Hiro 4
    American 1
    American 2
    Realistic
    Stylized 1
    Stylized 2
    5 Anime Body Styles:
    Hiro 4
    Hiro Built
    Hiro Realistic
    Hiro Stylized

Plus the look of Hiro 5 is just kind of blah. His nose is nice but has no nostrils. Also if you ask me the Base is severely over priced at 40.00 off sale when the Hiro 4 base was around 25 dollars and it brought more stuff. And this base is not like the Gen 3 or Gen 4 base morphs that let you use Hiro 3 and Hiro 4 clothing on Genesis. So why is so expensive? I don't see a 40.00 product. Also is MallenLane still going to put out Takashi? Is there even going to be an Aiko 5 and will she be treated the same way?

Hitomi is only 30.00 dollars, looks amazing and look at all the stuff she brings

After the Launch of Hiro5 and my disappointment I can't say I am looking forward to any of the remaining Generation 5 morphs.

I wish we could have gotten or still get something more like this. These are some images from Appleseed Ex Machina and Vexille. I think they have an amazing look to them and something similar to that look would be awesome for Genesis.

**** Four Stars for Quality Feedback
All constructive feedback to the product designer. I am glad you shared your insightful and detailed comments. The fact you identify specifics and offer an objective / comparative solution is precisely what is needed to see improvement. Its so much better than the drive by general complaint that's not backed up specific points & example.

  • Daz for games / Decimator

    Hi,

I am a bit puzzled by Decimator and the "Daz for game" bundle...

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/game-developer-kit-for-daz-studio/
Daz for game's cost is 149 Euros

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/texture-atlas-for-daz-studio/
    Texture atlas costs 0 euros

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/fbx-plug-in-for-daz-studio/
    FBX costs 0 euros

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/decimator-for-daz-studio/
    Decimator is 99 euros

So bundle's cost is higher than unit price ?
Am I missing something or is it a mistake ?

    Also, is Decimator working fine with all figures ( Michael 4 / 5 , Victoria 4 / 5 , various Genesis monster...) ?
How much is it efficient compared to 3DSmax decimator equivalent ?

  • Poser's dynamic cloth and DAZ Studio

Is there any way of making Poser's dynamic cloth usable, even if only to a limited extent, in Studio 4.5?

As an example I am thinking of the sleeves and overskirt in:

    Thanks.

  • Installation of Hiro 4 and Girl 4 in DAZ 4.5

Hiro4 and Girl 4 are morphs for Michael 4 and Victoria 4. You must have M4 and V4 and you must install H4 and G4 to the same runtimes that M4 and V4 are respectively.

Hmm, not too bad of a pull, M4 is a bit annoying since most of my content is Genesis, and having MFD stuff twice in a row is a bit rough, such is life.
