  • Fresh Install of DAZ Studio

I have been using DAZ since version 2.  Making a backup of the directory once a month, just in case.

Now, for the last 9 months, DAZ is in the frequent habit of crashing when I do something as simple as using the mouse to move the camera, certain clothing and applying shaders now also causes an App Crash.

DAZ moved with me, across 3 desktops since the days of Windows 98.  Running Win7 now, I am planning to stay with Win7, maybe just maybe go to Win 10.  Its been about 4 years since I did a clean install of the OS, to wipe out the floatsam that Windows creates.

My main HDD is a tiny little SSD, so DAZ is way too big for Drive C.

DAZ is split with 5% of content sitting on Drive C, My Documents - and the rest is located on "H:\daz 3n4\3.1.2\Old Library" and "H:\daz 3n4\3.1.2\Old Library\People"

Once, I bite the bullet and do a clean reinstall of the OS and DAZ, how do I merge these directories so they all sit on Drive H ?

How do I set up the DAZ downloader (DAZ Central)  to only install to Drive H ?

  • DAZ Central Hours Waiting for it to finish

I find Daz Central to be an impossible abomination. It just NEVER loads.

I wanted to install the new Daz on my laptop but couldn't find a way to do it without Daz Central.

Unfortunately I'd already deleted part of the old Daz via File Explorer because it doesn't have an uninstall facility and doesn't show up for uninstalling in Control Panel or even CCleaner.

I might download a copy of IM onto the laptop.

Many thanks to Richard for providing the link.

agreed, but it seems to read getting becasue we bought the bundke.,.but people that haven't bought it are also getting the discount,.

Members here previously advised me never to purchase anything on DAZ before the day is about to close (exceptions are flash sales)... I now have learned this lesson the hard way.

That is exactly why I waited for so long.

Yeah, I rarely buy anything until at least 3 or 4 in the afternoon central time just in case there's some kind of flash sale that happens that needs a new release or they send out a banner like this.

  • Can I delete 'My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud' directory?

That is content which has been isntalled through Daz Studio. As long as the Content Management System shows the content as having been installed that way DS will use those files instead of any Install manager/Daz Central/manual install, so deleting the folder is likely to cause load errors. If you wish to use the files from other isntall methods make sure nothing is installed through DS itself before deleting any left-over files. I can't recall if, or how, you can filter the Installed tab of Smart Content for Connect Installs but you could try selecting everything, right-click, and select Uninstall if present.

    3. The single install for DAZ Studio

Look in your Product Library page. I know the green buttons are labelled "Download ZIP" but they actually download the executable installer files. Scroll down a bit more and you'll see links to all the starter freebies that come with the D|S program (handy in case there's anything you missed earlier).

It's a bit ridiculous the way DAZ continues to give the impression that Central is The Right And Only Way™ to install everything, especially when so many people are having problems with it. Central was never supposed to be a replacement for DIM, it's a cut-down, simplified beginners' version of DIM — and it seems to be especially glitchy with existing custom content setups in multiple locations, like you have.

Yeah... now the cart price went to $25.65 (I also had another new item (the Quad) in my cart.)

    yes

The activity of blacksmithing is engaging enough for games and animations. A blacksmith would have to be muscular in real life, it's not like they are at a keyboard eating chips. I know there are still blacksmiths that ply their trade but not many and for most it amounts to a few strikes as a gang of tourist come through.

Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven had a blacksmith as the central figure, played by Orlando Bloom, which seemed kind of dumb. It's not about Orlando's skill as an actor as much as it was his body mass.

Now, if it were Russell "Fightin' 'round the world" Crowe, another Ridley Scott guy, then it would have been a little more believable than Orlando Bloom.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not seeing a lot of strength & stanima out of those shoulders. I'm expecting the movie wasn't actually about how to blacksmith though (I just looked it up and it's uh, a theme they've absolutely worn out so I'll skip that one). It's not easy to blacksmith though and I've never even wanted to try having watch on TV and in person. It would seem the biggest qualification would be an overwhelming desire to built something useful despite the stubborn resistance of that molten metal being incessantly beaten. LOL, the more I think about it the more respect I have for those blacksmiths.

  • Why do I have stuff in Smart Content > Available?

barbult, thank you so much for explaining this!  I recently found out that I have double installed all of my content with both DIM and DAZ Connect.  My husband had been griping with me over filling up my new hard drive so fast, and now I know why!

I did an experiment with one of the double installed products.  I uninstalled from within DAZ with DAZ Connect, exited DAZ, started DAZ again and the product was not in Smart Content / All, but it was in Smart Content / Available.  DIM said it was installed, so I exited DAZ, uninstalled with DIM, installed with DIM and the product was again available in Smart Content / All. (with the very tempting swirly icon... must....not....click....)

This will be a very tedious process with all of my content.  Can I just delete the items in the /cloud directory?  or will that completely break everything?

Thank you very much for your wonderful information!

First you need to realize that there are at least 4 ways to install Daz content products:

    1. Daz Install Manager (DIM), a standalone application that can install Daz Studio, plugins, and content. It installs the content into your Content Library.
    2. Daz Central, a graphic oriented, stripped down and simplified version of DIM, designed for new users who aren't familiar enough with Daz to know how to use DIM. It installs into a default locations (as I understand it). If you already use DIM, these Daz Central location might be different and reconfigure your DIM settings without you being aware of it. If you are comfortable with DIM already, don't try Daz Central, until they fix that problem anyway.
    3. Manual installation, where you download the product from your account Product Library, unzip the download and copy the files and folders to the correct place in your Content Library.
    4. Daz Connect, which is what you are using when you install a product from inside Daz Studio. This installs the products into a completely different location and folder structure than DIM uses. Everything installed by Daz Connect falls under a "cloud" folder, which isn't in the cloud, but is on your own computer. The name "cloud" is a continuing source of customer confusion. Daz Connect was originally designed to be required in order to install encrypted products. After a few months, Daz gave up on encrypting product downloads, but never explained why. Encryption was supposed to combat piracy, but it caused a lot of customer outrage and anger about suspected "DRM" issues. If you install a product with DIM and then install it with from inside Daz Studio with Daz Connect, you will end up with the product installed twice in two different places. Daz Studio will always use the Daz Connect version in that case. Any  updates to that product installed with DIM after that will be ignored.

Some products cannot be installed by all 4 methods. For example, some script products and plugin products don't work properly when installed with Daz Connect. I'm not aware of any products that can ONLY be installed with Daz Connect, but it is possible that you found some. I doubt it, though. It is more likely that the product is tagged incorrectly in DIM or that you have download filtering configured to hide those products.

  • DAZ Central Hours Waiting for it to finish

I have run into several issues with DAZ Central.

    1. The length of time for DAZ Central to load takes hours and I have very high speed internet connection over 400MB.

    2. DAZ Central wanted me to Install a new version of DAZ Studio. This is a problem because I have DAZ folders across multiple drives and all of my custom settings were replaced with everything on the "C" drive. My library fills several drives that are more than 4TB.

    3. The single install for DAZ Studio or the Install Manager are no longer available on the DAZ web site.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

nemmeno sapevo esistessero aggiornamenti di G8.

Se non lo sai, sallo! (cit.) wink

so I want to download the latest level of Studio and install it.

    1. i'm logged in

    2. I already have Central installed on my machine

    3. I had a lower level of studio but i've uninstalled it

The webpage couldn't tell I was already logged in, it forced me to 'login' again.

    then

i can't just download studio, i have to REDOWNLOAD AND INSTALL central, the same version I already have installed, to get studio?

    what?

    seriously?

    someone fix the (snip) website!

  • Getting my content away from the C: drive...

OK, that seems to have worked after trying it with one install, thank you!

    Next question...

Is there a quick way to select and install everything, as with the old install manager?

Or do I have to click each asset in turn?

uhm.. as I said I don't use Central but I remeber reading someone reporting that as an issue.. but it was some time ago, maybe in the meantime they added that option somewhere..

if not it would be quickly to go to your browser, account, orders and click the green Download & Install for each full order

Uninstall everything including Central.  Go to your Product Library and select just about any product.  At the bottom of the product page will be a link to downlooad DIM.  Install DIM and run it in Offline mode the first time so you can set the preferences (click the cog icon) to your liking.
