I have never understood, why they have started using the non-standard paths (.../cloud/1_61737/...) by the installers, and seeing the problems people are constantly having with content installed with these installers, one might think the installers are one part of the problem.

That isn't non-standard, that's the way a Connect installation works — each installed product goes inside its own numbered folder, all the numbered folders go inside the /cloud/ folder, and the /cloud/ folder goes inside a /My Daz Connect Library/data/ folder alongside the content location for your DIM and manual installed files.

Many of the problems people are having come from the new DAZ Central installation system (which actually doesn't use the Connect folders) being over-simplified. I don't know if the new version still does it, but the first several versions assumed no-one would ever use custom content locations, and enforced that by restoring all the CDM settings to their defaults. All previously installed content is still there, but DAZ|Studio has been told to ignore it.

It's all a bit of a mess; sometimes I'm really glad I decided from the beginning never to use these automatic systems and carry on installing manually like I've always done. I know how to do that, and I know how not to mess it up.

I have no use for install manager at all.  When I look at my downloads I cannot find the 4.12 daz program at all now only the Daz Central.

Where can I download the latest releases of DS itself WITHOUT the new central? When I go to download DS all I get is "central". If all that is is a new front end for install manager where is the DS program now?

Just want to keep the actual DS software current.

Daz Central is an alternative UI for Install Manager, for installing the application and content. it isn't a 3D tool like DS. It is designed to simplify the process of installation for new users, so probably not something you want if you have already set DS up using your own preferred locations.

It looks like the stand alone origianal DS is dead?  What's this new "Central" and can I install it without it interfereing with the DS 4.12?

I decided to check on latest release to download and all I can find is this "Daz Central" thing which looks like it will break everything I have set up.

I DO NOT need a "launcher" or an asset manager and don't want it.  I just want the DS program.

Why?

Because I use a separate PC as an asset server so I can render on multiple machines on network which all need to point to the exact same resource on the server so I don't need to try to keep multiple sets of identical assets with idential paths on more than one location. If I produce a DUF file on my production machine than copy to a couple of render machines across network and the assets don't match I'll get scenes missing textures and other bits.

If there will never be any updates to DS 4.12 just tell us so I know I can plan on there never being any future improvements.

I will turn off all updates and block DS with firewall and just chug along with what I have...forever. ( keeping a spare install file in reserve just incase )

It looks like the kind of move Adobe made to eliminate anything but cloud computing basically dooming anyone without a fast, active internet access from using their products.  Hurray GIMP to the rescue.

A large number of these (inlcuding recent products) have ended up in "Lost and Found" and I wanted to be able to edit the metadata to get them into more sensible locations and be able to find them.  I bought Content Wizard because the listing specificaly says "Create or update Smart Content for any product!"  

However it seems it only does this if the item is being newly installed or you have zip files. Because I used Daz Central I don't (I think?) have any zip files for products. So it seems this product is completely useless for my intended purpose (of correcting Lost and Found metadata for already installed items).

Have I misunderstood something? What should I be doing? How should I be doing what I want to do?

Content Wizard is more intended for products that don't have smart content at all.  As far as zip files, you have them, even if they are not on your system right now.  Go to your product library on the daz site, select a product, and then a download zip button is available to the right.

If you are only worried about fixing the categories, it might be easier to just drag and drop between the Content Library pane and the Smart Content pane (I think it was @Barbult who had this great tip but I can't find it right now)

Did anyone on here had issue where you purchase something from the shop (in this case it is actually free but still takes you through the purchase process), your purchase history states 'purchase completed' but then the item is not available on your Daz Centre and is not available on DIM either?i. The product in this case is Daz to Unity bridge. I contacted support two days ago but they did not resolve this issue for me.

You should seriously re-think using DIM. Although it uses the target directories specified by the PAs which are sometimes not optimal or even include typos it makes your like in >90% of cases much easier. With DIM & ContentWizard I am rarely touching my library folders manually.

Regarding MeshGrabber its a tool. Therefore after install you neither will find it in Smart Content or your library folder. Instead it installs to the program folder (usually under applications). You invoke it using the tools menu in DAZ.

Had no problems with installing under Catalina (10.15.6).

Unfortunately, I dislike installing via DIM/Daz Central ... prefer to put things in place on my own.  Guess I'll have to bite the bullet on this one.

I think you found one reason I backed myself out of Daz Central after it was released. I messed up my file structure and took me a bit to fix it. I stay away from it like the plague now.

Okay, I found the problem. I reinstalled with DIM instead of Daz Central, and suddenly there were options for "Preview Hairs" and "Preview Render" that didn't show up previously.

It's totally ready for primetime, I think. In fact it's been tested since December on Windows so the early bugs have been ironed out, hopefully.

There are currently some problems with stand-alone installers for the Mesh Grabber for the Mac. We decided to not delay the release until these issues were fixed because it seems a bit difficult and release the Mesh Grabber products for DIM / Daz Central only. Even if you don't use them otherwise I would recommend to use them this one time for installing the Mesh Grabber products. Or at least use them to download the ZIP files and then you can place the files into the /plugins folder manually.

Bought MW Bundle a couple of weeks ago and had installed and reinstalled it several times through Daz Central and also Daz Connect. It presented errors that were fixed (at least once) and now again, I cannot load the script... any ideas?

I am sorry for all the trouble you are having.  Please make sure ALL of the RiverSoftAVG products are updated.  This script is pulling in files from 3 different products: 54451, 64785, and 70675.  If any of these are out of date, you will have errors.  Personally, I prefer using DIM to install my products, which puts all the files in one place so you do not have these issues as much.

It's definitely not installed properly.  The icons do not even show up.   Do the files even exist in that location?
