  • Content Server for DIM and Connect down?

Yes -- seems the work done yesterday caused havoc throughout most areas of their system.  Can't get to either DIM or DAZ Central.

I guess all we can hope for is the resolve it quickly.  Sometimes I get the impression the DAZ company is heavy on the sales and light on the technical personel.

I also noticed the order number my order today has a different format.  They must have made some major changes over the weekend.

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

Well, I never even tried Connect (wasn't a fan of the Big Brother-ish tone of it) and DAZ Central looked like a giant step backwards after years of DIM. Central and DIM supposedly use the same mechanism for installations, but if they were pointing to different places when crossing installations, then maybe some files are pointing to one location when they are physically in another. Any products that share files (usually texture bitmaps, but sometimes utility scripts to set tiling, or displacement levels, etc.) could easily get wires crossed.

No worries about tone. Frustration levels are a tad high lately...

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

Especially if non-default installation locations are involved

Thank you for this information. My install locations are not default, so that explains why Central was such a headache for me that I just removed it and stuck with DIM.

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

Okay, just testing the limits, there. I have never experienced any missing files in the, oh, 19,000 product files I have installed, so something is not working properly if the files are not physically present where they should be.

Have you tried clicking on a file link in the "Show Installed Files..." popup in DIM? The blue hyperlinks are only generated if the files are present, otherwise they are plain black text. It should open an Explorer window to that location.

Yeah, and that's why I asked: the blue links are there, but some of the actual files just... aren't. And it's not giving an error message in DIM on the install (you know how if you try to install Cararra or Bryce content without pointing the DIM to the correct install location, it'll give you an error? It's not doing that for the files it's failed to install), so I'm guessing it's just a glitch? I can use the right-click menu within Daz's libraries (Content or Smart Content) itself to either uninstall/reinstall or just install and the files then install with a "new" tag on them, but it's just weird.

I'm wondering now if it could be caused by the fact that I've set Daz and my libraries to their own drive? I took great care to follow documentation exactly so that all my Daz stuff is on one solid state drive (and DIM, Central and Connect are all pointing to the right places--that was the first thing I checked) becausse I've had drive failures that affected my Daz and Poser libraries and reinstalling everything is not fun, lol) and most things install normally and are accessible--both through Daz and via direct navigation to the files in Windows File Explorer, but I wonder if DIM gets temporarily confused or something sometimes because of it.

Also I apologize if I came off sharper than intended earlier. I should have explained in more detail regarding what, specifically, it was doing. I don't always express what I'm trying to say/ask very well.

  • A new store will come out: Tomorrow (2020-11-01)

Wish there was a central page to go to in order to see the current state of the DAZ3D Store and what bugs are still issues.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to follow these forums all day, so I'm just going to have to forget about DAZ for a few days and check back later. I'm afraid to try any purchases right now.

I come from an IT background so I know the issue a database upgrade can cause. I'm hopeful the dust will settle soon. Good luck guys!

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

(I tried Daz Central and it's just... If I'm being generous, I would say that Central feels like it's pre-Alpha testing right now because it's not very good at all).

To be fair, Central isn't a new replacement for DIM, it's a simplified and cut-down version of DIM suitable for beginners. A lot of the problems people have been getting tripped by seem to be due to Central not always playing nice with an existing DIM-installed setup. Especially if non-default installation locations are involved. If you're already installing with DIM, and you know what you're doing with it, don't bother with Central.

  • DIM installation option gone AGAIN after checkout...

There are issues for some users with Central/DIM - it may be that this is related. Assuming the workaround does work please wait to see if the issue is resolved in the general fixes.

We're aware of a problem with DIM (and Daz Central) where some aren't loading up correctly. This worked in our development environments and testing, but is running into memory constraint issues in our production environment for a subset of customers. We thankfully know what the problem is and have a plan of attack to get it fixed once the team is all awake again. In short, a fix will be out shortly for this.

Thanks, no rush on my part as I heeded the warning about DIM being involved in the store changeover. I downloaded all my stuff prior to that. It is weird that people are getting different errors, so you must have different subsets. Thanks for working on it.

was 2020 really the best year to do this? devilcheeky

OMG you nailed it!  That's like turning back the time an hour this past weekend, did we really want another hour of 2020?

BTW, I had my DIM open prior to the store changeover, just tested it. Refreshing did nothing. So I exited and tried to start it up. Nothing. Won't open at all. Anyone else able to get in their DIM?   Edit- now it comes up but won't go past the login page.

One other small thing. When you do buy something now, after checkout the DIM download option has dissapeared again, and the only option is Central.

It was great when this was added back so would be still nice to have once more. laugh

    Will report.

I am very sorry if this has been reported, or is not something to mention here. A LOT of products in my Daz Central are leading to broken pages when clicked, no images (usually, old products have no images which is okay, but a fair few newer things are lacking images now too), but seem to be installing? I just can't locate them in Daz itself.

  • Store Redesign - Is this the new Daz store software?

I ran into an issue today with an inactive item I had previously purchased. I was trying to find out what the texture set was for and thought to use my Product Library, only to stare dumbfounded at an almost blank page, that only gave me download and a date of purchase, along with an image. Through a lot of searching in my files of promo pages I found the release pages for Persian Palce Decor 1, and that it was for Aslan Court 1 Decor 1. Which I found under Jack Tomalin.

I would like to suggest a cross-reference on the Product Library page to a required product so someone can identify it easily. When a texure artist like Moyra leaves, it is hard to track down all the files she worked on as she was excellent and prolific.

(And since Persian Palace 3, .duf files are blocks of grey, I am glad I downloaded the Poser files which work nicely.)

There once--a few months ago or so--was more useful information on the Product Library pages, but apparently it is really important that we all see that DAZ Central exists when we download our purchases. At first, even the order number had been removed, though that has now been restored, but the rest of the useful information is still MIA.

  • How to Calculate How Much GB DS Uses?

You can also right click on the Content Library folder(s) and Windows will count & add it up for you. Also for the folder were all your DIM Install files are downloaded too. That would work for the "DAZ Connect" folder location as well. You could do that if DAZ Connect or DAZ Central doesn't give you the sort of summary that DIM does.

Mine is roughly: 500GB installed, 345GB DIM, 845 total.

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

DIM won't skip any files. What you see in Studio as being ready to install is actually for DAZ Connect, which is a completely different installation method, and should not be mixed with DIM (or Central). Do not rely on Smart Content to show everything that is installed, as most older Poser content has no metadata, and lately some (too many) products have faulty metadata. Poser and DAZ Studio native products can physically install to the same folders, but your Content Library must be set up for each one independently. DAZ Studio native products will only show in the DAZ Studio Formats section, and Poser native products will only appear in the Poser Formats section, even if they have Studio equivalents in with the runtime.

Installing with DIM and then again with DAZ Connect actually installs it again in a different location, using twice as much space as it should. In DIM, you can see what was installed and where it was installed with a right-click on the product in the installed tab and selecting "Show Installed Files..." If the enties are all blue hyerlinks, everything is installed. You should be able to locate everything in the Content Library if the proper folders are mapped in Content Directory Manager.

  • Is it normal for DIM to only partially install products?

Fairly recently started using Daz again (after using Poser exclusively for a few years) and, while I'm generally pleased with the changes to Daz, DIM has me puzzled (I tried Daz Central and it's just... If I'm being generous, I would say that Central feels like it's pre-Alpha testing right now because it's not very good at all). Most things, DIM installs fine, but other things, it only partially installs or says the product is installed but it's not.

It's an easy enough fix to rt click>install the products within Daz, but it's a bit of a nuisance.

This also sometimes happens with products I install through the "Install" tab within Daz. And I have noticed that sometimes, products don't register in the "Install" tab unless I've first opened DIM. Once DIM populates with the new product, then the product appears in Daz as being ready to install.

I'm just wondering if this is normal or a glitch in the Matrix. :)

  • How to Calculate How Much GB DS Uses?

Easy if you use solely DIM for installing - just go to the "Installed" tab and click the box next to "Products" and the status line at the bottom shows the installed total (mine is 1.4 TB!!!) and the package total (if you keep the download files after installing).

I have no idea how to do it in DAZ Central (there may be a way, someone?) - and if you use only Connect then I think everything is installed under the same top-level folder defined in Daz Studio, so you could navigate to that and do "Properties" on it in your file system.
