I now have DIM on my F Drive. But I still can't find a way to uninstall DS 4.14 from my C Drive, nor install it on my F drive without Daz Central butting in.

@JOdel, I'll answer the second question first. The script only runs on objects in the scene. You only need to install in one location, although as many scripts do, it probably needs to be in the scripts folder, and should be installed using DIM/Central, or manually, not with Daz Connect. When Totte is back online, he can verify that.

To your first question, yes, the script will see objects and instances whether visibility is on or off. In fact, if you have 10 identical objects and 5 of them have visibility off, the script will still create nine instances, but it will respect the visibility of the originals.

Although this is not "official", I was able to "Hide" an instance by moving it into the Instance Group created by Instancify. Also, I detail several ways of getting around limitations in an appendix of the manual.

Honestly, I think you're going to love this utility. However, with the 30-day return policy and the discounts available during this sale, I recommend you buy it, read the manual from "cover to cover", (it's a fast read,) see if you can come up with a workaround for existing instances that fits your workflow, and if you find it isn't working for you, return it! (But I don't think you will.)

If you find Genesis 8 Starter Essentials in the products tab of Smart Content what icon does it have at top-right of the thumbnail?

in the top right cornor it just says actor...

Nothing is loading. everything i click on is unable to find its .duf

I had it install DAZ on my D Drive rather than on my C Drive because my C Drive is for my OS only.. Daz is too big..

From what I read, DazCentral has a tendency to reset paths used to default value, so I would check what is setup in DS preferences for the content directories to see if the paths point to D drive.

Why does the bridge to unreal not show up in this new Daz Central?  It does not show in plugins, assets, and it does not show as an installable option when searched for.

About a week ago I successfully installed Daz Studio and Daz Central on my D Drive, but (I think) I didn't get as far installing DIM as I suddenly realised I didn't have enough room for everything Daz on the D Drive. I therefore uninstalled everything and since then I've bought a 2TB external SSD, but I'm now failing to get anything installed on it except Daz Central.

On site, whether I go to "TECHNOLOGY" or "DOWNLOAD DAZ STUDIO" I'm taken to Daz Central (when what I want is DS 4.14), so I first successfully installed that on the external F Drive (to what's essentially a 'My Daz' folder), but when the next step is to install Daz Studio it doesn't give me the opportunity to input a file path to the F Drive and automatically installs on the C Drive. I'm also baffled that in that process the download pauses and the window comes up which states something like "download will continue after the previous files have been installed" - which is a bit like my saying "I'll next do today what I'll do today after I've done what I did yesterday"! ??? - Question: WHAT previous files? After a bit of fumbling and getting nowhere I clicked that window off and saw another "Install Daz Studio" tab so I clicked on that and found it was already halfway installed and thus it then continued to fully install on the C Drive where I don't want it. But wherever I look in Program Files (or Uninstall in Control Panel) there is no Uninstall option (while there is for Daz Central). So how do I now uninstall Daz Studio from the C Drive?

In Daz Central on the left hand side, if I click on the Daz Studio tab I get on the right side an install DS option, but it states 4:12, not 4:14.
So questions in order:
#1 How do I uninstall Daz Studio 4:14 from my C Drive?
#2 How do I install Daz Studio 4.14 on my F Drive without doing it via Daz Central (and being offered 4:12)?
#3 Less importantly but I'm intrigued by the potential of time travelling: what previous files are referred to in "download will continue after the previous files have been installed"? And why does the auto-download and install of Daz pause halfway through before that comes up? This is clearly not self-explanatory.

Does it reset any settings or adds new ones I need to change? Like the Display Optimization before, where you had to set it to best to increase overall speed. Like if I change a slider, it lags for a moment.

God, why the fuck did I do this update? Everytime I hit render, it instantly goes to "close" instead of cancel render and don't have a picture rendered.

What would be the best way to revert back without breaking everything?

Edit: It now renders, updated my graphic card drivers, but still runs like crap in the viewport so not sure if there are more settings I need to change. Would probably prefer to revert back still.

I did a full uninstalll today on one of my iMacs and reinstalled using Daz Central. This did nothing I still get the message that this program isn't supported on Big Sur. I have't upgraded to Big Sur on this iMac and will wait  untill there is an update to fix this issue.

I had the same exact issue. It's a waiting game. But I have work to do. I'm desperate right now. So desperate that I'm literally going to drive two states down to use my brothers gaming computer to get these commissions done for clients.

Nevermind. Fixed it.

Did a full clean reinstall of everything Daz-related.Still no joy.

So went to the Daz Store and got the Bridge things there...

Now they appear in Central and am about to install them

I'm having the same problem really upset by this.

The bridge looks so promising. But my Daz Central isn't showing 3ds Max bridge or the Blender bridge either. Just Cinema 4D.

On the site, none of the new bridges show up, not even Cinema 4D.

No, i didnt know what it was, so i didnt install it.

PostgreSQL is the database system used to store the product metadata. You need it if you use Smart Content.

Neither did I. If I am understand correctly this is a change by Apple in the C++ runtime. I would think that following the changes to the runtime that your application (DAZ Studio) needs to run would be pretty important to a software developer (DAZ).

This is a bit frustrating, to use the 3090 without Iray planes I prefer to continue with my 2x1080Ti and be able to use Iray planes in the stable version.

Can you provide a scene file or set of steps to reproduce it, so Daz3d can report it to NVidia?

 

Sure, it's really easy:

- Open Daz

- Load G8, G3 or G1 (G1 with some skin texture) (INTERESTING NOTE: The G2 characters, specifically Genesis 2 Base Female, DO NOT present that problem!)

- Create a Iray Section Plane node (Move it a little bit the Y axis up to see part of the character)

- Activate the Iray preview and wait for it to finish (use GPU-Z or Windows resource monitor to monitor GPU usage)

- When the preview is complete and the GPU doesn't make use of the CUDA cores, simply move the perspective or camera, at this point the Iray preview will no longer work, the GPU will not be detected by the program and will require a restart; or if you try to uncheck and re-check the GPU in the advanced Iray settings, and activate the Iray preview again, Daz will give an error and shut down. (NOTE: Curiously, you can move the perspective or camera while the Iray preview isn't completely finished and it works that way; so the problem is when the preview is completely finished).

 

Tested on versions 4.12.2.60 and 4.14.x, with a 3090 or a 1080Ti (so it's not an exclusive problem of the new GPUs), with several drivers (Game or Studio), with W7, W10, and with a new installation of W10.

BTW, the example is using the Iray preview, but if the scene or animation is rendered the same problem happens.

UPDATE:
New tests carried out indicate that the problem is related to the skin material. I had previously mentioned that, curiously, G2 Base Female didn't suffer from this problem, and that's right, BUT if you apply a G1 skin material, BOOM! The problem appears.
On the other hand, I've tested properly G2 Base Female, doing 4 complete Iray previews, no trace of the problem... so, what's different about the material used in G2 referring to G1, G3 or G8 in order that this problem doesn't occur?

Those are slightly different steps from any I've seen before, but trying it just now I didn't get any issues and the GPU remains avaialble for rendering. Until Daz can figure out a combination of factors that reliably triggers the issue (and they have been trying) it isn't going to be possible to report the issue to nVidia.

Thank you for trying it, I didn't think it would be so difficult to replicate the problem since so many seem to suffer from it.

 

I have tried again, clean installation of W10, I haven't installed anything else (apart from Chrome and Winrar), I haven't even installed drivers or Windows updates.

While I was downloading Daz Central and Daz Studio v4.14.0.8, Windows installed the Nvidia driver, v456.38, and I thought that before installing a more recent one from the nvidia website I could try this one, and it failed.
Then I closed Daz, installed the latest Nvidia Studio driver (v456.71), restarted, opened Daz to clean the error log, restarted it and tried again, same error.

Attached the LOGs of both occasions.

Steps that I have followed.
- Open Daz
- Load G8 Female Base
- Create an Iray section plane (raise it a little bit to see the legs of the character rendered)
- Activate the Iray preview and, IMPORTANT, wait until it's completed, that is, the GPU is not being used yet to finish the rendering (in the windows resource monitor, wait for the CUDA cores to drop the percentage and not be in use)
- Move the perspective (I haven't even created a camera), and from there on it renders through CPU.

My driver is older, 452.06 - I'll try later with a more recent version but I certainly can't reproduce this right now. Actually, the GPU did fail tonight. Tried a couple of times and still getting the same result, also tried beta and General Release in case they were giving different results. Of course that doesn't mean Daz will see the same.

So, it has failed when you update the driver?
If not, maybe it hasn't failed before because you haven't waited long enough for the Iray preview to finish completely.

It's possible I didn't wait long eniough, though I thought I had. I think you are the first reporter to stress the need for the nVidia Iray preview mode to be on first; you're certainly the first to say it has to be complete.

 

I also have a problem with "Iray SectionPlane Node"
All my scenes have these planes and now they don't render, but if I delete all the 'Iray SectionPlane Nodes', the rendering happens.

This is very sad.

SOLUTION TO THE IRAY SECTION PLANES PROBLEM
- Go to Render Settings (Nvidia Iray) > Section Objects
- Enable "Section Caps Enabled"
- ENJOY!

That seems to work, but it kept the GPU a lot busier for a lot longer than when it was off so it's possible it's somehow masking the effect, by not fully parking the GPU (or whatever is happening) rather than actually curing the underlying issue.

ever sence DAZ Central its been a F'ing nightmare getting it to work. everytime i start working on a project some BS ends up keeping me from being able to finish it because for some reason the whites of eyes are black, or the caraters faces are covered in cracks like a creepy doll, or my computer crashes, or my saved scenes decide they want to not load right anymore...

I look at the amount of money i've spent on content for this program and it fills me with rage. litterally hundreds of dollars between here and a couple other places that for content i can't use..

Another day, same failed downloads and blank product links.  This is getting tiring. 

Which download methods, and which links? Can you reach the products by going to the Product Library page directly?

Richard.  I've had a ticket in for Frida https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-frida-viking-outfit-for-genesis-8-female for 2 days now, I get that it's hectic.  My Order Confirmation with the outfit on never arrived and there seems to be no way to download.  The Product Library page just says Daz Connect and has no Manual Download link.  Not coming through Connect, Central etc..

Not really sure they should still have the sales page up if it's not real.
