  • Daz Studio 4.14 Pro, General Release!

Can DAZ Studio 4.14 be downloadad and installed WITHOUT DAZ Central or Install Manager?
When I install via DAZ Central, DAZ Studio no longer appears in my Windows 10 "Add / Remove Programs"

Also it does not install DAZ Studio in the folder C:\Program Files\

But installs it in "C:\DAZ 3D\Applications\" which I prefer not to.

Is there a benefit for installing it in this folder over C:\Program Files\ ?????

    Cheers & many thanks

    Ken

You can download a stand-alone installer from your Product Library:  https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176

It doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs -- if you install it with Daz Central or DIM you uninstall it the same way.

Daz Central simplifies the folder structure by installing everything into one folder, C:\Daz 3D  Since it's installing content there as well as applications, it's better to stay outside of Program Files.

Daz Central has apparently been created for non-technical minded new users, for others it seems to be "not that useful".

Go to your "My Account/Product library" here on the site and search for "DAZ Studio 4.X Pro" and you find the link for manual downloads

Yes if you're talking about the general release. Betas can only be installed with DIM.

  • Moving content to new computer

No, you don't need to use Daz Central, you can use DIM or download the stand-alone installer here: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176

Since you installed Daz Central first, it installs everything in one place, C:\Daz 3D\

  • Moving content to new computer

On my old computer DAZ Studio was installed in

    "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4"

    New computer :

    "C:\Daz 3D\Applications\64-bit\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4"

On new computer there is also folders

    "C:\Daz 3D\Applications\InstallManger\Downloads"

    "C:\Daz 3D\Applications\InstallManger\ManifestFiles"

It also appears unlike past version of DAZ Studio it must be downloaded via DAZCentral as I can not find a DAZStudio download on this webesite like I could in the past.

Can DAZ Studio be dowloaded separately and installed without DAZ Central or Install Manager.

I wish to install it in the C:\Program Files\ directory.

The AppData path is where DIM settings are stored.  The Public Documents path is probably where the downloads, thumbnails, and manifests are stored.  I assume you haven't yet installed Daz Central on the new computer?  In that case, yes, copy both to the corresponding locations on the new computer.  If you've already installed Daz Central on the new computer (before DIM) it will have created its own settings.

  • Daz Studio 4.14 Pro, General Release!

I have just had to reboot again, which is annoying, on my desktop. The laptop is doing nothig. I made the mistake of uninstalling and then could not find it to re-download through DIM, which also seems to have been removed from Daz site. Foolishly downloaded Central, and now have no access to anything.

Daz is really tee-ing me off at present, considering how much time and money I have invested (a nice round 13000 files).

Check that the various paths in DazCentral are the same as what you had in DIM. DIM is still available for download in the Product Library of your web account.

  • Moving content to new computer

Since I orignally posted this article in 2016, I started using DAZ Central in summer 2020.

I noticed on my old I7-4770 computer with GTX 1060 card I have two InstallManager folders

    C:\Users\kenmo\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager

Do I copy over both to my Ryzen 7 3700 computer with RTX 2060 video card?

Does DAZ Central use the same or a different directory then Install mager - "users\public\public documents\daz 3d. "

I as ask as I am once agaon going through my3 to 4 year computer upgrade process....

    Cheers & many thanks.

    Ken

Not on a clean install, it uses a single maste Daz 3d folder with sub-folders on the drive you specify. Why not use Install manager if it is what you are used to/has featrues you need?

  • !! Store Issues - Known Problems - Please Read !!

    Hi all,

I don't have time to read all the 56 pages, so I'm sorry if this has been already asked. I just bought Urban Future 7 but the product doesn't show up in DIM. It doesn't show up in my product librairy page in my account either, so I can't download it. Is the DAZ tream working on this?

Also, should I use DAZ Central to get things work?

Sorry about my quite approximative english.

    Thanks

    Benny

  • Scale and Distant Objects

@Zilvergrafix that is great advice. Keep the central subject close to origin and just move or scale everything else; thank you!

I'm glad to help!, I do that way because when you add more props they appears on the center of all, moving your MAIN character far from scene center and all your assets will be forced to move too, thus, sometimes  buying Pose packs moves all your character to center.

  • Scale and Distant Objects

This one looks better, even thought the horizon is still a little too high.  However at this time of day a photograph including a person would have a much larger aperture and much less DOF.  The scale of the tower looks fine to my eyes in both.

This one is the "correct" scale one. laugh

I personally prefer this one. The last 3 months I've learned more about camera work than in the last 40+ years... More advice is welcome!

  • Daz Studio 4.14 Pro, General Release!

Applications are normally not installed to the root of the C: drive ( C:\Daz 3D\... ). For a 64 bit application I would expect it to be in C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\...

Daz Central does that to keep everything together, and so that the end user can specify the drive to use without having to worry about specific paths. Advanced users who are willing to set up the various paths should continue to sue Install Manager.

Oh!  That is so nice, I wish I had known - I would have spent more time playing with Daz Central, as it is I just rebuilt my entire installation a couple of weeks ago to clean out cruft (I'd decided to put the output of the wardrobe/etc converters into a separate installation tree - not my tree and not "My DAZ 3D Library".)

In my case everything which is regularly written that I could move via the configuration files has been moved but I left the programs in C:\ because that's an NVMe RAID file system (the two NVMe slots on an ASUS motherboard) and so program paging is fast.

  • why is suddenly my Daz Studio being disrupted?

That usually happens when there is an update that executes when Studio is running. Re-install Studio from DIM or the standalone installer and check your library locations. Make sure your DIM setup (if you use it) is still intact, Central is known for messing with it, especially if you use non-standard locations.

Caveat: From the splash screen it looks like the OP is using DS 4.12. Unless they have a saved installer for it, reinstalling now with either DIM or manual download will install the upgraded version (DS 4.14).

Right. I always have that backup, so I assume everyone else does, too. Haven't installed the new version, so I didn't think of it. If the OP didn't have a backup, it's too late for that, anyway.

    @Drekkan

Changing Studio versions won't disrput previous saved scenes unless your contents paths are different with the Studio update. The Studio update shouldn't change  content paths either.

Could be that Central mucked it up, from what I've read. (Note: @fastbike just put plain text after the @ for the auto-notification. Forum software will generate the code)
