Now Genesis. Genesis has changed everything. Every figure is useful in some way. Every one. Even the ones I don't care for much like Michael 5. I like his clothes though :)
WOW... this is giving me a hard time... is there anybody out there to help an absolut beginner?Well. Some older content does not show in Download Manager yet (but DAZ is working on converting them) . But it should be older items, like Gen 3 (Michael 3, Victoria 3 etc). Items for Michael 4 or Michael 5 should be fine, I suppose. What files show in Download Manager depends on your computer OS (Windows or MAC) and also on the 3D software you are using. When you tell the manager that you are using DAZ Studio 4.5, then items that are only for Poser (like Poser Companion files) will not show among downloadable items because you don´t need them in DS 4.5.
Carrara and Daz Studio content
Yes. You mean Michael 4 and Victoria 4 and such? Buildings, props, dragons, horses, elephants, cars, spaceships, clothing, hair... all of it.Peter Wade said:I know that Carrara 8.5 Beta can use the new Daz Studio DSON stuff, and 8.1 can use Poser content, but can either version use the old Daz Studio Legacy content, from before DSON was invented?
The stuff that doesn't work in versions previous to 8.5 beta, would be anything Genesis related.
Also, Daz Studio-specific things, like Movie Maker, or Optitex dynamic clothes, Daz Studio shaders, lights and cameras... that stuff doesn't work in Carrara. At least to my knowledge and understanding.Trouble with M4 EliteSzark asked if you can run the DzCreateExPFiles-M4.bat located in Runtime\Libraries\!DAZ. Normally this script is run automatically by the installer when a new morph pack is installed. It doesn't harm anything to run it. Just locate it in Runtime\Libraries\!DAZ and double click it to execute it. It does some magic to allow morph packs to inject into the Michael .cr2.
Also, another way to "inject" the morphs is via the Michael 4 Powerloader. When you load a fresh Michael 4, the Powerloader is launched and you're given the opportunity to pre-load any Michael 4 Morph packs you have installed. Just enable the check box for the morph pack and the morph pack(s) are injected when Michael 4 is loaded into the Viewport. You'll see the morphs grouped into morph packs in the Parameters tab.
The Powerload is included in the Michael 4 product and is a separate download.
Below if a picture of the Powerloader morph pack selection screen.
Second picture is where the morph packs appear in the Parameters Tab for the Body.. The Head, if selected, will have a selection of morphs if included in a morph pack.
Trouble with M4 EliteAfter the M4 Elite Morphs are injected into Michael 4, on the Parameters tab you'll see the following:
Michael 4 selected: Body morphs - Svelte, Prosaic, Spartan and Adonis.
Michael 4 Head selected: Head Morphs - Svelte, Prosaic, Spartan and AdonisEdit: This morph pack is also supplied with a set of Elite morphs for his "toast"...

Genesis is showing as the selected figure? That is the problem right there! The Elite Morphs are for the Michael 4 figure, not for Genesis. You must load Michael 4 into your scene instead of Genesis and click the morph for him. These will not work on the Michael 4 for Genesis morph, at least not without a certain plugin (GenX).Also, if you are not finding Michael 4 to place in your scene, but you are sure you installed it, try looking in the Content Library under Poser Formats. It should be under the library you installed it to. In my case, it is Poser Formats: My Library: Figures: DAZ People. Michael 4 should also show up in the Smart Content tab under Smart Content: Figures: People: Real World. M4 is one of the characters that currently installs metadata with installation (at least it was for me).
Thanks. Okay, I've made a new file, imported Michael into the scene as you suggested (and yes, it was under Poser Formats).
But still, no morphs are working. I can see them all, with their teasing icons of what I should be able to do, but it's not working.
I guess I'll find something else to do.....
Trouble with M4 EliteSpitfirecat said:First, thanks to everyone who posted suggestions. I was unable to reply because all the reply buttons disappeared from the screen! So, I deleted and re-installed everything from scratch. A lot of things that weren't working so well are working better, but I'm still having the same trouble as ever with M4 morphs.
So, in checking whether or not I have the whole figure selected, I noticed that the figure is still Genesis, and that Michael doesn't show up anywhere as an option. I have installed it, and the morphs and body shapes are showing up, just not the base figure. The installers have put files in a couple different places, so maybe they can't be found.
BTW, I'm on a Mac.

Problems with Transfer UtilityI'm afraid your Michael 4 is in the default pose, not zeroed: as you can see, the legs are closer together when zeroed and the feet turned down - that's why the shoes aren't fitting. Select M4, then right-click on the Parameters pane's tab and select Zero>Zero Figure Pose before exporting your mannequin.
Problems with Transfer UtilityYes. Michael 4 was zeroed. And all the other models work fine (breastplate, helmets, tunics, etc). Only the sandals are giving me issues. The Sandal shoots off to the side and the toes get bent up in a very unnatural position.
Problems with Transfer UtilityAre you sure Michael 4 was zeroed when you exported your mannequin figure? In the zero pose his feet point down.
Asking for a little guidance in Morphs
IF I may make a suggestion, instead of just getting the Evolution Morph bundle, get the Genesis Starter Bundle. It comes with the Evolution Morph Bundle, as well as Troll for Genesis, Hampton Hair, and two outfits. It's also on sale right now.litow14 said:I am looking to make some men and women. I was looking in to using Daz3d to make things more quickly and hopefully shorten my pipeline for making massive amount of people/creatures that all have some different looks. say a scene with 35 warriors not all 35 of them will look the same.
This is the list i have been looking into so far. any ideas?

Victoria 4Problems with Transfer UtilityI am hoping that someone can help me with an issue I am having with the Transfer Utility in DazStudio 4.5 Pro.
I am making armor and clothing for the Michael 4 model. After a model is complete, I export it out as OBJ, import it into DazStudio, and then use the Transfer Utility to 'connect' the object to the Michael 4 model. The Michael 4 model has been converted to weight mapping (TriAx). In the Transfer Utility I select Michael 4 as the source and the imported model as the target. So far this has worked perfectly for items that need to move with and deform to any pose I apply to the Micheal 4 model.
However, I have created a pair of ancient Greek sandals (the kind with leather straps going up the lower leg. The model comes in perfectly and is positioned where it needs to be. I have one sandal for the left foot and one for the right. But when I use the Transfer Utility (Michael 4 as source and Sandal_Left as target, for example), the sandal MOVES and is slightly deformed. None of the other models have done this. All have stayed in place. If I pose the Michael 4 model, then the sandal moves and deforms with it, but it is still out of place (it deforms from the position where it moved to when I used the Transfer Utility). So far this is the only model that is doing this and I have created several pieces of clothing and armor.
Can anyone point me in the direction to fix this or tell me what I am doing wrong?
Is it possible to convert a Poser model to Genesis? No. That's not what I had in mind actually. The question came up when I saw some of Joe Quick's Bruisers Thugs and Tough Guys re imagined for Genesis. Those were Morphs for Michael 4 when I saw them on renderosity, if I recall correctly. Granted, that's a Daz figure already, but the question comes to mind about about how people are able to redo older figures and morphs in Genesis --but I can't really find any information on how a modeler can take a figure not necessarily created in Poser and eventually end up with a Genesis morph or Figure. I understand how people do morphs, but what about new figures like Hitomi?
I guess what I'm after is how can a person take a figure that was say created in Zbrush or Modo and end up with a Genesis compatible figure? Poser was merely the software for which the figure I had in mind was developed when the question first came to mind. It could have just as easily been Zbrush or Lightwave or such. Someone obviously designed the Anubis or the Ogre figures somewhere and . I want to learn the process they used to do it, even if it's just general knowledge.
Trouble with M4 EliteSpottedKitty said:Spitfirecat said:But when I go to Parameters, there are no sliders for M4 Elite, just General (bend, twist, side-side, point at) and Display (shadows, visible etc).
This suggests you might have only a part of the M4 figure selected. Injecting does still work if this is what you've done, but you can't see the newly INJ'd morph dials until you select the root part of the figure — the one named "Michael 4" in the Scene tab. That's what I suggested, too. Doesn't seem to make sense, otherwise.

Michael selected in scene tab, double click on INJ Elite M4 in content library. That worked for me, morphs showed up in Parameters as well as Shaping tab. But, tried again by dragging INJ Elite M4 onto Michael, morphs did not load. Maybe that is the difference?Edit: Actually, dragging did work, I just realized that while dragging, it selected Michael's chest in the scene. As soon as I re-selected Michael's entire body, the morphs were there.
Okay, I did exactly as you suggested, and still nothing showing up in parameters.
And yes, it was a fresh load, new file, new Michael 4.
What exactly is neededawesomefb said:Hi Jade, Genesis is flexible to work with. But the free version of Daz lacks alot of content to completely, build a character as one desires. I've learned alot using Genesis. Most difficulty I'm having is the surface area. Like when I select skinface, entire face changes colors. I have no idea how to apply make up to Genesis.Herald explained Texture maps, etc..... But what are MAT's ?? Is Make up Mat's ?
I like the way Genesis works too, and like the characters I've created, but they look lifeless, no make - up, skin tone, Genesis hair selection is horrible, Lol !!!! I see lot's of characters, V4 style I could work with. As a beginner, I prefer balance, not frustration.
Just feel with V4.2, I have more options, maybe I'm wrong.
Thanks alway's friend.

MAT is short for material. It mostly refers to a preset which applies all of the texture information needed. That means diffuse, specular, displacement; the works. If you want make-up on your character, most of these will be done using material presets and this goes for earlier Gen4 characters as well. All make-up is is a different diffuse texture in most cases, and they usually come with new character sets regardless of which character base you choose.A few things to consider when making your decision. Firstly, if you're going to purchase content for characters and want the best value for money, the Genesis might be the way to go for a couple of reasons.
1) You automatically start with male, female and child morphs for Genesis, allowing you to build characters of different ages and genders from the start. Victoria 4 is purely an adult female, and while there are 'child morphs' for her, they're injection morphs. This means you can't interpolate between them to get different ages. It's either young or old rather than anywhere in-between.
2) As a result of Genesis being able to become any gender or age, you need to buy fewer clothing items. With V4 only V4 clothing will fit (there is a program called crossdresser, but the results can be hit and miss), same goes for Michael 4 and The Kids 4. That means if you wanted a pair of jeans, for example, it's a pair for K4, a pair for M4 and a pair for V4. Three clothing items compared to one if you're using Genesis.
3) Morphs can be interchanged between characters with Genesis. If you bought M4, for example, you'd need the Morphs++ pack to get the most out of him, and the Morphs++ pack for Victoria, and the Kids and so on. As Genesis is its own figure, the evolution morph packs work regardless of age or sex, so you can mix and match to make an infinite number of unique characters.
4) Character morphs become sliders rather than fixed appearance injection morphs. If I use Kaelyn on K4 I might be able to play around with the morphs++ to make her look a little different, but there's no way I can reduce the amount that the Kaelyn morph affects K4. With Genesis, the slider system means I can use 40% Kaelyn and 60% Ella or something. It's very flexible.
5) Most current and future content is Genesis compatible. That doesn't mean that they don't have prerequisites, as some require Victoria, Aiko or Michael 5, but it does mean that should something nice come out you can add it to your runtime and enjoy all of the existing content you've purchased without concern.
Now, to address another issue you seemed to have. Make-up is available for Genesis just as it is for Victoria 4. As I mentioned above, all make-up is just a material applied to the figure. Since Genesis can use Victoria 4's textures, that means it can automatically use any make-up options which Victoria 4 has along with all of the new Genesis only ones.
Below is an example of Aiko 5 (which uses Genesis figure as a base) with makeup.
