  • Star Trek Builders Unite 8: THE REBOOT

shadowhawk1 Thanks for starting this!  I'd volunteered to start it but I kind of have been moving and unpacking the last few months. Sorry to see you leave.  Completely understand. I'm at a place now (actually have stable internet and am mostly unpacked) to where I can take over again.

I know you have been moving and dealing with issues associated with that and understand that completely. Once you get everything sorted out and if someone hasn't already taken over I will be more than happy to let you have it.

I am up for the challenge!  :)

Just let the mods know and they can transfer it over to you. Thanks for voluteering to take this over, Hopefully I can get my head on straight and make it back one day.

Have changed the Author of the thread.     Can't change the list posts though,

Thank you.  We'll figure something out.

Thanks Bluto, I look forward to that day as well.

I would like to thank all the members of this thread both old and new for all of the great times we have had here. The Star Trek threads have been a great place to talk all things Trek where nothing is shunned or shamed as not being "canon" as my foray into Andorian stalk bling proved so many years ago. Keep supporting each other through the good and bad. You have all been my Star Trek family andI will miss you all.

I did the unzipped file then saved it as a zip  and opened it in notepad and then changed the channel value to 0 saved the copy, then put it back as the same name morph file and reloaded a fresh g8 and she loaded without the morphs. • Clothing Converter from Genesis 2 Female to Genesis 8 Female

K but why is it needed? I'm still not seeing to point of it.

    From old generation to G8:

    • Better conversion than autofit, less deform
    • Help with heels rigging that autofit don't trigger automatically.
    • Batch process!, no more autofit window for display and select from lists of options. No more annoying lost of time, again and again searching for the right clone in a long list each time that you want use certain cloth. You save thousand of clicks, time and neurons use.
    • Some clothes are make in a specific generation and it is not repeated in the next. You want move all your work to G8 and mix old nice clothes with the new one.

From G8 to old generation: some people prefers old generation and don't move to the next, but they want the new nice clothes of G8 that only exists in the 8th generation.

Reasons to maintain an old generation:

    • Currently is not easy convert morph to G8, so custom characters need a lot of work to be translate to G8. HD morphs cant be converted as HD morph to other generation.
    • The old mesh is preferred because some technical details (animation possibilities, resolution, rigging, better topology depending in the buyer taste and skills).
    • A lot of money was inverted in the old generation and all the tools for this generation are owned, so you prefer maintain all your work in the old generation.

  • Buy Something That Doesn't Work in Carrara? Post your Questions and Workarounds here. (please)

Have the original Star! figure by Lady LittleFox (as opposed to the new Star 2.0 figure morph for Genesis 3 female).  The original Star! figure appears in the content folder for both a Poser format version and a Daz Studio version.  When I loaded the Poser version directly in Carrara, I had a lot of trouble with the mesh not staying attached to the skeleton when I rotated joints.  The morphs did not work, either.  Had more success when I opened that plugin, Daz Studio, and loaded the Daz Studio version (not from the Poser runtime).  I loaded and conformed the clothing in Daz Studio.  I saved the Star! figure and clothes out of that plugin called daz Studio as a scene subset.  I opened Carrara and loaded the Star! figure and clothes DUF.  Seems to be working.  Have had similar issues and workarounds with some other custom figures made for Poser, such as Gramps.

yes gramps I had to do pz2 poses in DS or Poser IIRC not sure about Star, I have used her, maybe too needed presets

  • suggestions for Genesis 9

    ...four things.

    1. Bundle the Head and Body morphs together at a reasonable price as they are DOs and pretty much a necessity to make a new Genesis mesh really useful.

    2. Make it truly backwards compatible with other Genesis iterations (clothing, morphs, skins, shapes, etc.).

    3. Release a "Skin Pack" like Gen 3 & 4 had instead of having to buy individual character morph sets to get skins.

    4. Make it a distinct, overall improvement over the last Genesis generation, not just a few minor tweaks like G8 was from G3.

    2. and 4. are probably incompatible. I'm not sure what you mean by 3.

...Gen4 figures had skin map packs with different skin types which were Daz Originals not PA products.

    https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-skin-maps-std-res

    https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-skin-maps-high-res

With Genesis those disappeared and one now needs to purchase individual characters to get different skins (a lot more expensive as they usually are priced 17$ - 20$ each and you only get a single map).

I also don't see how #4 is not "compatible"  I didn't bother with G8 because the "improvments" over G3 were fairly minor compared to G1 - G2 or G2 - G3 and really did not warrant the cost of reinvesting in all new support content (particularly since there likely will be no more updates to Gen-X).

  • G2F AND MYSTERIOUS JCM!

    @ MAX-S

Hi I want to help out to dissolve this confusion about Genesis 2 TriAx WeightMaps, [JCM]'s (Joint Controlled/Correction ? Morphs) and the difference with General WeightMaps.

There is little to no use of any JCM's with TriAx WeightMaps on Genesis 2 to corrent the joint bendings. Unless you have bought additional products that include JCMs like Beautiful Bends for example.

[Edit]: Sorry have to corret this since the eyelids are not driven by joint rotations those corrention morphs are not called JCMs but [MCM]s Morph controlled Morphs linked to the pose control property Eyes Closed.

Genesis 2 dose have JCMs but they are most likely meant as corretions for additional character shapes. For example with a face morph you would also need a JCM that corrects the eyelids so they close correctly.

Instead of JCMs the Genesis 2 TriAx rigging uses additional WeightMaps called Bulge maps to help to corret the joint bends. The good thing about this is, all those maps gets projected onto your clothes if you run the Transfer Utility, then you don't even have to leave DazStudio to fix those joint corretions on your clothes, it can all be done with the Node Weight Map Bursh tool.

I made a quick tutorial video showing how you can edit the weight maps on conforming items for Genesis 2. Actualy there are two now, the second shows how to use the Property Hierarchy pane.

It would help if you provide a more detailed description with sceenshots of what you did with the Transfer Utility and the pants you where talking about. The example of the holster is better with those pictures.

With property Hierarchy just I put the leg correction morph when she bend it, to fix polygons shape. Simply I added the jCM to the Stage 1 of the leg and works well. Then, when I zero thee leg pose, explode the JCM like if add original and corrective morph. ANyway I will take a pic of the Property Hierarchy to show you the steps!

You may have linked some properties wrong in the Property Hierarchy pane. Open the ERC DeltaAdd > Attributes of one of the SubComponents and have a look at the Scalar value. You can even select all SubComponents at once with Shift select and right-click Set Scalars to quickly change them. If you are happy with the controler property that you've created don't forgett to save it with File>Save As>Support Asset>Morph Asset, otherwise saving a scene file will also keep the property available for further editing but only in this scene.

Note: after rigging via Transfer Utility I got General maps each bones of the leg, also if is enough the R thigh bone. I don't remember the effects of red and blue paint and what influence have the clear painting (grey paint)

I got General maps each bones of the leg? If you have run Transfer Utility with Genesis 2 Female there should be TriAx WeightMaps. Your last screenshot shows how TriAx looks like with maps for all three axis and a scale map. While General weight maps only have one General map for all axis and this map is also used for scaling.

If the clothing was original made for Genesis 3 and up there may be the original General Maps left over after the Transfer Utility rigging to G2F. I've seen this once by myself. Those maps are no longer in use since the cloth is now fitted to G2F and you can select and delete them with the button Remove Selected at the bottom of the Tool Settings with Node Weight Map Brush, you have to do this for every bone and axis - there may be ways to delete all general weight maps at once - I don't know. @ Richard How to delete all general weight maps at once?

  • All figures loading with the same morphs pre-loaded. Help please

I tried doing all this even got rid of everything in data folders. The character is a custom morph and the morph doesn't show up in currently used. I found the morph in morph loader still zeroed it saved as a morph  asset and it reloaded the same way. I have only the dials for the custom morphs. Where does DS place the morph files in morph loader catagory. I would delete it from there. I also have presets for this character and got rid of all those  and the character files. Still the morph loads. I don't know what to do to get the Genesis 8 female back without those morphs. Anybody know what to do now? Nothing on this page I tried worked.

  • Wrestling Gear and Poses?

An update to the Mec4D's Genesis 2M singlets would be welcome, though they seem to transfer to G8M OK.  There does not seem to be any proper college/high school wrestling headgear later than M4, though.

I cannot find any good college/high school wrestling poses, though I guess I can fake some of them from various crouch and kneel poses from elsewhere.  Would be nice, though.

  • Daz Install Manager won't open on MacOS Mojave

Most all companies have the same policy due to license agreements.  The agreement is between you and the company.  There are companies though (usually with paid software) where a person is allowed to transfer a license to another individual.

Regarding the DIM software, it's also about copyright (literally the right to copy).  About the only time a copy is allowed is by the individual for backup purposes.

Having said that, I personally keep copies of all installers for software and back them up.  I also keep not only the latest version, but at least one and sometimes two prior versions.  I've been burned too many times over the years by companies yanking older software and assuming the latest version is the only version you'd ever need.

  • Morph and Deformation Help

    2. isn't possible, though you can of course choose not to use the standard morphs.

The term for a blendshape in DS is morph, not sure if that's for Kafka or Tony Hart's little friend. dFormers are like poser magnets - procedural distortions of the mesh. Joints are also deformers.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do though - the order in which morphs are applied is irrelevant to the outcome, each morph just slides the vertices along a line between the base point and the fully morphed point so applying several morphs justs tacks a bunch of translations, which are commutative.

  • G2F AND MYSTERIOUS JCM!

Rigidity Maps are used only to control the way morphs project from the base figure to the fitted item, they don't affect posing.

Red is strong weighting, blue is weak.

To deal with the straps you are probably going to need a mix of JCMs (you can have JCMs in the fitted item thata ren't in the base figure) and adjusting the weight map so that it varies less across the width of the strap - if you make the weights uniform, for example, from top to bottom the edges will not separate, but you may then need a joint controlled morph to scale the strap up or down so that it doesn't clip. Really, you have set yourself quite a challenge there.

  • Genesis 3 Female Morph for Bending Knees while dancing?

What do you see in that video that cannot be done with the current rigging and requires a morph?

Scroll to about 0:20 in the video, and you'll see an example of the knee movement I am referring to.

I wonder if there are any morphs for Genesis 3 Female that can allow me to bend the figure's knees like at 0:20 in the video?

  • Natural Eyes for Genesis 8 [Commercial]

I'm definitly still doing this wrong, lol. I got some crazy zombie/demon eyes going on (which are actually pretty cool TBH, but pretty sure not the effect these are supposed to give). I used the sweet HD morphs for the eyes, my character is at sub-d 4, used cornea buldge morph, and the Green 9 iris color. Do I need to change the sclera as well? Or use the other settings? Maybe more lights, I only used two emissive lights and no HDRI. I attached some pics to show what I used for render settings, and also the finished render.

I'm not an expert, so I hope I don't come off as arrogant or anything.

For "Thin Wall Off" here is what I did to eliminate "Zombie Eye" iris & sclera.   Be interested to see if works for others, or just something on my end.  DS version 4.10

    After changing them:

    @chevybabe25

If my workaround is disruptive to your topic or in error...  Just tell me to mind my own business and I'll edit it out.  laugh
