suggestions for Genesis 9
I jumped from Poser to Daz3d when Genesis came out. Never regretted it. I didn't like Genesis 2. I don't think I ever even loaded a Genesis 2 figure in a scene after the first time I tried to use one. It's only been since just before Genesis 8 came out that I've started toying around with Genesis 3. I have no plans to use Genesis 8 characters. Really I think unless they went back to the original single mesh style for any future versions I'll just stick with Genesis and Genesis 3. But I'm just a very casual hobbiest and don't feel the urge to spend money repurchasing content for each successive generation. I did that once getting a character morph I really liked for Genesis to use with Genesis 3 and was very disappointed with it.
eJCM applies on all now...I see something similar with the "Skinchangers" product which applies a spurious morph when the head is bent, even if Skinchangers is not in use. I have submitted a trouble ticket.
Report sales errors here. Missed it? No worries. "There's Always Another Sale™"take note of the description in "details" for the shorts - it's obj. and fbx. file, not duf.
Only PC for the Day item I kinda want is the shorts.
Edit: O hai, what's this? Special offer on getting boys' clothing for 80% off, you say. Oh no, I'm hit again. (Skipped getting the shorts, because I couldn't tell who they were even for from the description.) My boys really needed contemporary clothing, though.
Ooh, Thanks for the heads up. I missed that when I bought them; so I've now requested return of the item
According to the description the item is designed to fit G8F. As such a couple of mins work with the transfer utility should make it into a confirming item. Naturally there will be no movement morphs or helper jcms, but these are not essential for a pair of shorts. Maybe worth trying before returning.
What is the character base of Innocent Hair for Genesis 8 Female? (looks like star wars heroine)Tried to do a dialed morph but wasn't possible to get it exact despite I have a ton of head morphs, I suspect it's a custom morph. Only things I've morped and posed are eyebrows and eyes. Eyes and makeup in the promos are not from Osuine either, not sure where they are from.

suggestions for Genesis 9I found myself thinking about this over breakfast and I realized that I am really in no hurry at all for Genesis 9. The current state of the G8 line, with all the conversion utilities and morph sets has me quite satisfied as far as human figures are concerned. I can -and have- transferred all my Genesis 3 figures over to G8. I can use any of the G3 skin textures I like due to the fact that the UV's were made available and I purchased them. Zevo's products have me covered for basic human morphs. DarioFish's and Sickleyield's products have a lot of fantasy shapes ( and with tweaking and blending of morpsh ) some sci-fi shapes covered as well. Not to mention the fact that I can transfer any necessary morph ffrom G3-G8 within Daz Studio itself. Not to mention that most of the wardrobe items for G3 and even G2 are useable on G8 thanks to the RSSY converters.
G9 needs to be more than an incremental update and we need to have the same level of backwards compatibility that we do with G8 . As it stands right now, I am not in a hurry for G9. I will probably just get the base male and female figures and morphs and stop there except for things like props, lightings, scenes, shaders and whatnot. while I see what the PA's do with regards to utilities and morphs. I really love the versatility of the G8 line because it is so easy to use things that I have purchased for other generations. I would like to see that in G9.
Rigging issue
For being gone all weekend, it's all good. As for the mesh clipping in perspective view, was able to scale it up along side a Genesis figure. After that problem solved. Toy figure issue came about after following Blondie's tutorial. It said to export grouped figure, then import back in as custom. As for the Morph Loader Pro, your saying that it automatically gives the techsuit a full skeleton/rig without having to specify groups? One more thing, the legs are good to go. Left to right collar was good till I got to the fore arms, hands, and fingers. The mirror bone option wasn't 100% with those limbs. Any suggestions on how to fix that, or if not I may have to fix the others manually.Hi, sorry wasn't around this weekend. I'm glad you found a way to work with the Geometry Editor.
Anyway exporting OBJs can help sometimes especialy if you want to create morphs in other applications. By exporting the OBJ check the Individual Settings, have a look at the screenshot, maybe they are set wrong by default. Heared from others they had issues with exporting the OBJ with Groups. Make shure Write Groups and Use Existing Groups is selected. Regarding the Bones they don't get saved with the OBJ file format - rigging is not supported. This is why it dosn't make sense to import the OBJ again into the scene. I was suggesting to load the OBJ as a morph target with Morph Loader Pro or you could load this OBJ into the Figure Setup pane to have the bones autogenerated and aligned.
FaceGen Morphs not showing up.I know this disscussion has been over a year. But this is what has worked for me.
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs\FaceGen
Open FaceGen - Create a sub folder (new folder) name it FG(and morph name) - Open folder and drag (from face gen folder) to new folder. So in other words the end result should look like.
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs\FaceGen\FGMorphnameWhen you open up DS and load GF3 go to Posing and Shaping - under editor - Genesis 3 Female - Head - RealWorld and Morph will be there.
There is no FaceGen parameter like there is for G2 or Genesis just RealWorld.
Hope this helps
...End of line: Updated - Dead as a Doornail..thank you. Most likely the "legacy" scenes will just stay on the USBs or I may transfer them to a larger USB stick so they are all in one location. (that will give me a double backup). need to sift through again because one stick has a couple files from 2015. Hopefully I I'll find I was able to save some of my Iray work like the bus stop and railway station scenes.
Transfering Morphs/MATs from G3M to G8MWhat kind of morphs are you talking about using? Morph packs from the store, or specific characters like Lilith 7? If it is the former, it could be an easy task if you have the same package for both generations.
In that case, you can do the following:
- Load the Genesis 3 character
- Go to File -> save -> Shaping preset and save the shape
- Load the Genesis 8 Base Female
- Apply the shaping preset you just saved to the G8 figure.
That should make the G8 character match the G3 character. I have the DAZ Genesis 3 Female Head and Body Morph Packs and their Genesis 8 versions and have transferred many of my custom characters to Genesis 8 using the above method. When I run into issues, it is because I've used morphs on the G3 character that I don't have a counterpart for in Genesis 8. For example, I made a character that is a cross between Bethany 7 and Lilith 7, and that will not transfer.
I know there is another process that lets you make a morph out of a character preset, which then could be used on Genesis 8, but it is above my skill level at this point, and I can't find the link to it at the momemt.
All things The Witcher...Kettu, hello. Yes The belt is a seperate part of the dress. Then belt is made up of four parts. I decided to go with a priestess look on the belt, the way her belt hangs over to one side, works for a low poly game model but to keep her looking the same it needed a workaround, this was all I could come up with. The belt going around the wast is one piece, then buckle is another, and answering a question for glaseye the buckle is sculpted. the parts that hang down are two seperate parts. The dress needs a few more tweaks, I got the shoulders pulled up a bit too far now, need to push them back down and I might pull the wrinkles in the train of the dress out a bit further? Undecided. Thing about wrinkles, if you are watching a movie, tv show, etc. the actors clothes are usualy clean, wrinkle free, pressed; they want to look their best. Painting them on a low poly model makes sense, gives a bit of fake depth. Here in the land of happy rendering, you want a few creases and wrinkles for added realisim but you don't want the person looking like they waded up their clothes and slept in them. No creases or wrinkles here in the world of renders, and the model may as well be wearing a soda can. Finding that balanceing point is not easy. As far as setting up the material zones so the sleeves are seperate That is easy. I now have seven models near complete, just a few tweaks here and there, the models are meant to be used with sub D and the UV's are finished. All that's left to model is her gloves, Boots, and Sword, a few tweaks to the face morph and I will make her a whole body morph. I'm thinking about a makeup option too. Do you all have any suggestions or requests for this project?
Rigging issueHi, sorry wasn't around this weekend. I'm glad you found a way to work with the Geometry Editor.
Yeah it would be great if you could have a function like in the Figure Setup pane that aligns only your selected bones automaticly to the Face Group.
Maybe my solution I suggested is not applicable in your case. It is just an example how you could fix scaling on a already rigged figure. Actualy by reading over it a second time I realized it is enougth to scale up the toy size figure to work on the rigging and scale it down to 100% when done. It was just my second guess that you wanted the figure in toy size by default. However I wonder how you got it imported into DazStudio in the first place, I guess you have imported a FBX file from the blender tech suit.

Cartoonized is awesomeCartoonized for Genesis 8 Male: I find that the documentation for this product has discrepancies and is misleading.
The store page states that there are:
13 face shapes, the product images states that there are 9 face shapes, and actually in DS there are only Cartoon Face Shape 01 - 05.
8 jaw Shapes, images agrees, and in DS, only 4 jaw shapes
8 eye shapes, image agrees, and in DS, 4 eye shapes
8 nose shapes, image agrees, and in DS, 4 nose shapes
8 lip shapes, image agrees and in DS, 0 lip shapes - now if lip = mouth and the morph sliders are labelled differently than the product information, then there are 4 mouth shapes
So where are the rest of the morphs?
Having just installed Cartoonized for Genesis 8 Female, the same discrepencies are present there as well.
Issue with iray renderHello everybody,
I've an issue with rendering of a character based on G8F with some morph made by me...the forhead is not rendered correctly. I already tried to reapply all texture, change light, etc etc. but nothing change. I've this issue only with this character and not with the others I've made. Any suggestion?
Thank you
AWE Shading Kit for DAZ Studio and 3delightMoving forward. Thanks for all the tips and info Mustakettu85 Very useful. i did need more Diffuse strength than you suggested. My maps look like zombie maps when the Diffuse strength is set to the AWE default or your suggested 60% so I have mine set to 85% to bring some flush back into the skin. The inner mouth was pretty easy to fix with some messing with the Diffuse strength and the Diffuse color channels (same with the Eye Socket / Lacrimials) The eyes on the other hand look pretty bad. Not sure what to do to get reflections going again since this set up has SO MANY options compared to other 3Delight setups do. .... Suggestions?? Also, what would I do to get some of the gloss off of the skin, it's a bit too shiny for my tastes. Looks like he just got out of the shower. I am using the dome that Wowie included with the DAZ Default HDR plugged into it.
I do like the quality of the skin as it's rendering but it's a bit slower than my other 3DL setup that I'm developing for a character I'm getting ready for market...

I set diffuse strength to about 60-65%, leave SSS strength at 100% and adjust the SSS scale and phase (and maybe absorbation) to get the desired result. Try lowering spec2 strength or set spec2 color to a light grey, also for a more "weathered" look try decreasign spec2 roughness a bit. You can try enabling spec 1 reflections for the eyes and experiment with roughness and so on. Also if that doesn't give you enough environmental reflections try enabling the base thin coat and increase thin coat thickness or whatever it is called;) Also experiment with the environment exposure! Aand, check cornea bulge morph, try dialing in a fair bit, can help with reflections.
Be aware that if you use displacement I've found it's not properly calibrated (sorry wowie). If you set the min value to -1 and the max value to -0.59, then adjust strength, you'll get pretty nice results.

[Released] European Style Apartment [Commercial]Glad you like it, she spent about a half year on it (on and off sometimes) as she learned 3D from scratch.
That is impressive! Has she some 2d experience before?
Gerster - All props are available separately yes. I didn't count but I think all together there's over a 100 props and furniture pieces.
Toilet seat and shower door open too yes. Drawer by sink opens too. Water faucet on the sink moves too even.
Windows can be opened and closed, all curtains too, although the long thick curtains that are tied to the sides on some windows don't close fully, but that's how they are in real life.A few more images, some creepy ones too!:
SMALL BEDROOM:I'll post more later again, including some prop renders and the modularity samples as they give you an idea of how reusable props are, or how things are broken down.
PS: Even the paper drawings on the fridge and small room walls are single props with various morphs for bending them.
Bed Douvets are set up for DForce and come with a bunch or presaved morph poses. Also very impressive. I think this will be an instant buy. So shut up and take my money, please

Exterior part / stairway isn't included of course, although the main door of the apartment is perfectly functional... maybe as a future project, although she's leaning more towards Fantasy environments now, Games of Thrones style... but you never know.
stairway (with some appartments doors) as a future project would be cool - we don't have much stairway products - espcially for appartments.
Exterior would be very cool, for comics which shows also the house from the outside.[Released] European Style Apartment [Commercial]Glad you like it, she spent about a half year on it (on and off sometimes) as she learned 3D from scratch.

Bed Douvets are set up for DForce and come with a bunch or presaved morph poses.HELP! My Iray Preview is all blackThanks, I put them in my wishlist. I have Pei and Miya and rarely use them, so I figured the rarestone morphs were more Anime oriented. besides, I have a ton of other morphs also, LOL
Thanks again. If you are ever so inclined to share the other morph settings, I would still be interested.
Carrara ParametersI focus on the first question and leave rest to others.
Morphs are usually found in one of three places.
- For genesis, most morphs are found by selecting the "actor" level of the figure.
- Some morphs are also found by selecting the group level (genesis in this case). For genesis, most of these are automatc correction morphs, such as joint controls.
- A third place is found by selecting individual bones with the figure skeleton, such as the head.
When you create your own morphs for Genesis in Daz Studio, you can use morphloader pro to pick where the morph wil be found on the figure.
Generally, for genesis and later (V5, V6,...), look for the morphs by selecting the "actor." In contrast, for Victoria 4 and earlier, look or morphs by selecting the figure nameor the body parts. Having said that, remember there are exceptions for genesis, espcially if you created the morphs yourself.
Thanks for taking time to answer! What about parameters for simple moving limbs and body parts? Like if I want to animate my character performing specific moves, where do I find the tools for that? In Daz3d I use the Power Pose and parameters tab. Parameters in Carrara I found to be missing for most body parts (at least for M5) as they only show unclickable "root" with no other settings. Thanks again!
