Studio 4.15 and PwToon
How did you install? pwToon needs files placed in the application folder. It is working for me in the current General release, as witness thew attached (boring) image.

While new content is frequently Iray-only, if you have the render engines et to 3Delight then newly created/imported objects will have the 3Delight Daz Default Shader applied.
Studio 4.15 and PwToonSo, put simply...PwToon no longer works in Daz Studio 4.15. The PwToon product page - which is presumably 'auto-updated' lists Daz Studio 4.15 as 'compatible', but that's a flat-out lie. The entire program seems setup to force iRay surfaces ONLY. Given that up until I 'upgraded' DS to use the new Genesis 8.1 figure it was working just fine - I'm always slow to adopt the latest version - I am now seriously regretting doing so. Basically, a product I purchased - and used quite a lot - has now been rendered completely inactive due to a forced move away from more stylised renders.
If anyone knows a way to actually get it working - and thus allowing me to use the toon/anime-style characters I'd set up using the PwToon shaders - I will be very grateful. But for the moment, I am not a happy bunny. :(
Tips to make iClone Renders AcceptableYeah, Granville the unfortunate posture in consumer end 3D animation is comprimise. I love the look of Iray renders but if you want to add anything else but a single character with hair and clothes..........good luck. I have started moving back to 3Delight because you can pack so much into a scene and still render each frame in a few seconds. I still prefer the way skin looks in Iray but tweaking is the name of the game. I attached samples below showing 3Delight renders in the first 3 photos which took about 10 seconds each to render. The last on was a frame from an Iray video which involved using the tricks Ivy spoke of, reducing textures, using only the items you see in the scene and deleting or hiding those you don't. I also attached a NPR rendering that was done in 3Delight using PWtoon and it is about 2900 frames and rendered in about 3 hours. So it all depends on what your willing to accept in DAZ. There are tons of Gurus in the DAZ forums that can help you along the way, when they are willing to chime in.
MANGA STYLE & VISUAL STYLE topic - Update Sept 23rd 2017: Fixed Dropbox links! [Commercial]I have a question: is there a tutorial somewhere to show how to add Tiling to VS? I want to add Tiling to VS but I can't for the life of me figure out where to add it in Shader Mixer to make it work correctly. Plus, Shader Mixer is overwhelming on my laptop's screen when I try importing a Shader from the Scene.
Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated. Being unable to tile has been the one thing which has kept me from fully adopting VS into my workflow.
As a follow-up, once Tiling is added, is it possible to save the VS Shader with Tiling so I can use it again? Tiling is a feature I use over and over in pwToon but I'm ready to explore other options.
Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide!
More Non-photorealisitic Renders (NPR II)I think after some more tweaking I'll have a new Photoshop NPR recipe to post, but it's gonna be reliant on PWtoon using specific settings, so it won't be for everyone. I might try and see if DzDefault Toon works with it as well first.
Saving morph presets from characters?I read an interesting post recently about too many morphs on a character causing slower renders. It's gotten to my attention that I realize I now see the light, even though there is virtually little impact on my side at this point, despite that I have purchased so many morphs by this point. I feel as if I could get my renders to move much faster.
That said, I think it would be a good idea for me to create morph presets for each morph on all of my genesis 1 through 8 figures. That way, it could result in much faster renders, even though I presently rely on 3Delight, which I use for pwToon renders.
One item I use which slows down my renders is the Charli Hair for Genesis 3 females. I am suspecting that hairstyle has a lot of morphs.
What would I have to do in order to save presets for each individual morph?
Welcome to Hatsune Miku Anime Manga Cafe ☕Photoshop and PWToon are a match made in heaven.
4.12 Rendering problems since 12/23 - freezing, then black screenI have been experiencing problems with rendering in DS 4.12 yesterday and today. When I try to render a pwToon shaded girl in 3Delight, it renders one arm no problem. But when it tried to render with the Victoria 4 Dynasty hair (which I purchased on Renderosity three years ago) parented onto a Genesis 3 Female figure, the screen freezes and then goes black, I realize the Dynasty hair for Victoria 4 does have a lot of hairs on it, unlike the Genesis 3 version. Despite the screen turning black, the mouse pointer still shows no problem. Why is there freezing then black screen occurring while trying to render? What can I do to fix this problem? I realized that yesterday, I accidentally saved a scene in the DAZ Studio 4.12 beta vwrsion after using the Lip Sync feature. I have since been unable to render the same as I did two days ago.Welcome to Hatsune Miku Anime Manga Cafe ☕vrba79 said:
Your toon method is really good. That a take on PWToon, or something else?
actually, i made a tutorial regarding the technique i used on few pages before, but you can check it also on my web page here: https://studio.funcafe.web.id/tutorial/simulatedcellshading_2.html
the original rendered image before postwork looks like this:
all the mouths was redrawn on postwork using photoshop :)

I broke my 3DelightI'm migraining so if I don't make sense i can't fix it. (Yeah I know. It always seems that a migraine comes with these issues.)
Background as to why the problem: I create Akashik Online. (www.akashikonline.com) PWToon, Visual shaders, 3Delight. I've been working on this for years, and I really envy things like the Dragon Prince which essentially do the same thing but animated. (Even if I've been toying with the look longer. Heh.) Lately I've been trying to use my Akashik acq1uired skill set to make an animated music video for some acquaintances. It's over a year later and I've barely made an impact, but lately thanks to time I've been able to concentrate on it.
I have... I dunno 12 threads. Cores. Whatever. Anyway, there are 12 of them. And they're Not. Fast. Enough.
NOT. FAST. ENOUGH.
I'm waiting an avverage of 2 or 3 days just for a couple of seconds to render. With the latest beta release of DAZ to boot, I'll get to the final end of a long short render and the thing crashes when I tell it save!!!! ARRRGGGH
So I downloaded 3Delight because I know going external outside of DAZ is tons faster. And it was! Soooo muuuch faster....... I was able to do a couple of single scene renders and they were amazing. But I couldn't figure out how to get it to do a full animation, and support is nonexistent.
According to the 3Delight website, The Dragon Prince also uses software by J-Cube. I accidentally found it and thought, hrm. This might be why I can't render animations. I'll install it.
Then I went from 3Delight 12 to their latest beta, thinking that might also be the problem.
Now when I tell the rib to go, the cmd window opens for a brief second and all shuts down.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. I took out the J-Cube junk. I rebooted. I went back to 3Delight 12 (their website had said it was the last release that supports tooning but they hoped to have something new soon).
I followed instructions as per this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/17016/how-to-use-3delight-stand-alone-render-engine-tutorial/p1
I tried just rendering in stupid slow DAZ and only get black scenes. Just black.
I really need this fixed. Akashik is broken now. Please save me. I ain't got nobody to ask. Wah.
I don't give a rat about iray. I need the reason why I have DAZ to work.
The Official aweSurface Test TrackHi. How can I get rid of green-gray occlusion in skin tone, when using AWE surface?
When I use AWE distant light with Ubershader or PWtoon it works fine and shows awesome speed. With other AWE lights and emiting surfaces those shaders don't work. You'd have to be more specific regarding the occlusion.
AWE AreaPT lights will not work with other currently available DAZ/3delight shaders. Only with AWE Surface and mustakettu's shaders. So, that's expected behavior.

Looking delicious:) Nicely done!
Thanks. Mostly it is PWToon shaders. The fastest 3Delight shaders, I found.
Can I ask you a question?. How fast AWE shaders are? Can I have same NPR look with them? That's a good question. Not sure I can give you an accurate answer...I don't have pwToon so can't compare, and with awe I always go for some kind of realism so haven't really tested yet. Could be interesting to give it a try though:) I guess you could cut rendertimes by reducing diffuse- and specular bounce depth and turning off global illumination and so on, but I doubt it will be faster than a dedicated toon shader.
Edit to add: So I understand you have aweSurface. You could try setting diffuse roughness to 100% for a more "flat" shading effect. Also note that you can remove limits and push it even higher if you are going for a toonish look;) And turning off specular/reflections, or setting it to a low number with a high roughness combined with fresnel with a high roughness could help.

Can I ask you a question?. How fast AWE shaders are? Can I have same NPR look with them?New DS Filament Render EngineI would love to see someone develop a stylized shader or 2D style toon shader for Filament to get that anime-esque style of animation/look. Most of renders are done using pWtoon shaders. Iray doesn't work for me (I've mentioned this in several other posts). Unity has a beautiful set of stylized shaders, but upon installing Unity, I realized it is a live game render engine and not a frame still-shot renderer (so I can't produce my web comics).
Filament is not set up to support custom shaders in DS, at present. It gets PBR materials translated from the PBR Iray Uber Shader and uses a pre-built shader - there is a list of supporte properties here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6200861/#Comment_6200861
Thanks, Richard! I've bookmarked the link. Despite what Filament can and cannot do (yet) - I'm still very interested in trying it and seeing what I can discover and utilize into my webcomics. I've seen some of the samples here from Filament using the lights and skins that are New purchase items available in the store. The renders are beautiful and dramatic. I have faith that somewhere, somehow, someone will find a way to create a cell-shaded shader akin to pWtoon (or better) that will work in Filament. There's so much that new technology has to offer. Even if Filament is in its infant stage at this time, I'm looking at what Iray has ballooned into over the eventuality of time.
I'm pretty patient. When things get developed, things get developed for the Filament engine. I have tons of Iray shaders that I've purchased from DAZ even if I can't use any of them at this time. One day, I hope to update my PC and get a more powerful video card to try Iray. And I've been here with DAZ since before Iray was even a thing. And Iray has come a very long way since it's introduction. I think Filament will as well.
Thank you greatly, to those who have developed it!

Upon reading earlier posts here, I can see that Rawb mentioned that it was really aimed at webcomic and game style animation renders.
Maybe this Filament isn't going to 'do it' right now for those attached to Iray, but for me and my old Dell T3500, it is a godsend and exactly, what I was hoping DAZ would develop in time. I haven't had a chance to jump into it yet as my M-F job has me bogged down. I will this weekend. I'm seeing renders in this thread and they have me very excited to use it.
I came here prior to making some purchases because I want to see how others are doing with it. From what I'm reading, it looks like this is what my aging PC needs very much.
I think "cell shaded" is the word I'm looking for.
Can you give a sample?! I don't really know what you try to go for. But i imagine PBR shaders already exist for your kind of style i think.
A style similar to a Miyazaki animation, maybe like that of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I had this style done with pWtoon in this video I created using DAZ:
I want to be able to produce that same cell-shaded effect using filament, but with the Filament lighting that I see for sale here. (I'm not sure how to post vids here from YT using an iPad, so please let me know if this works)
Have you tried that??!
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/tutorials/dazstudio/studio-toonshadersUm, yes, many years ago. Thanks. But since the installation of Filament, no. I have to wait until this weekend to give it a try. I had asked about combining 3DL shaders and Iray in Filament, and one of the DAZ techs said that Filament is not based on shaders. I have no idea what PBR shading is. I've never dealt with it.
dunno if https://www.daz3d.com/pwtoon would work in Filament as I don't own it
I have pwtoon and tried it and tried it out and they do not seem to work at all, and Visual Style Shaders does some funky stuff to the texture if tried on Genesis 8..
And that's what I was afraid of. Hence, I asked if there would be a creation of Cell shaded shaders or stylized shaders for filament in the future.
Unfortunately so, and well the only way I see someone will to specifically create a toon/cel shader for Filament.. But that would be a long ways off, as there is so much that needs to be done to Filament first.. Like being more robust and useful, than what would be seen I would imagine by many as just a gimmick and nothing more..
I'm sure it will become more developed as time goes by. Thank you for testing those two shaders though and letting me know the results. I'm going to try and see if I can play with the cell shaders that are DAZ based that gniiial suggested. I've never tweaked them or really dug into them to full capacity. It's also been years since I've tried. I think I was on DAZ version 4.5 the last time I played with them, then gave up and settled for visual style shaders and pWtoon instead. Of course,I didn't fully understand the functionality of shaders, having just left Poser 4 (which to me was an utterly confusing and complicated program to figure out even with a vague instructional book that I had purchased in college).
DAZ is a pretty user friendly program to me, and I'm not much of a tech (pfft, not hardly). Maybe I can figure out with trial and error, how to utilize filaments shaders to behave like cell shaders. (Might be a pipe dream, but hey - dream big! Amiright!?)
Maybe maybe not being open-source it depends on whether people want to contribute to its development or not
