If DIM is to introduce an option to view products as a grid of images (as well as all the other ways that people like) then why on earth have they killed Daz Central before that option is available?

If DIM did that then most of the worries and distress expressed here would be completely averted.

I strongly suggest a stay of execution till this is ready.

Because Central was plagued with problems that were causing DS to have various problems where DIM didn't and doesn't and is much more powerful than Central with a lot more options

That's our Daz 3d development team! Always striving to give us the Best experience possible! Kudos and please send them our Thanks! :)

So happy Daz central was not gotten rid of.

It is only a stay or execution, not a reversal.

I hated DIM.  I found it overly confusing when central worked for me perfectly.  My only gripe with central is I wish it had a feature to filter model generation types like look at all gen 9 only or gen 8.1 only products.  Since it does not have that I use the large images to find stuff I can't remember the name to and often click to go to the store page if wanting to check something.  Great feature.  Maybe this was all just a test to see if folks actually cared about it? Lol

DIM shold inherit the Daz Central set-up.

One of the things that I liked in Daz Central in addition to the larger thumbnails was that I could click on the thumbnail and it would take me to the product page at Daz. As far as I know, you can't do that with DIM.

DIM has an info (i) button that will open the readme, and that will link to the product page if the product is still live. In Daz studio the right-click menu on a product will have a More Information command that will open the readme.

In DIM, select the line your installed product is on, then slide your cursor over to the right until you see a small blue icon with an arrow.  Click on it and it will take you directly to your product in DazStudio (same as Daz Central did).

EDIT:  Oops I misunderstood what they were asking, but hopefully my post may help others.

I am happy that Daz Central got a stay of execution, hopefully that will turn into a permanent pardon?!

For me, it has been invaluable for coping with a decrease in life skills and still being able to do and enjoy 3D art. I would really hate to loose this very useful tool.

Yes, this is a big thing for me, too. I'm so pleased we can use Central again for now. Unfortunately today I have a migraine and the bright white hurts, but I'm more than happy to suffer through it to look at all my new purchases. Please keep Central for good, Daz :(

  • Daz Studio basic installation question

    alexhcowley said:

DAZ Studio uses completely standalone installers which can be ported onto multiple computers, providing only you use it.  You do not need an Internet connection to activate it but there is a licence key that has to be applied.  This is added to your "My Account" on the website when you have "purchased" and downloaded the product.

There are three ways of installing Studio: manual, DIM and Connect.  Connect is about to be scrapped but that leaves you the first two options. Having said that, some products, such as plug-ins, can only be installed using DIM.

Daz Central, an alternative front end for instal manager, is in the process of being shut down. Daz Connect, used to isntall content through Daz Studio, is still going on but cannot be used to install Studio itself (obviosuly) or plug-ins and other items that require elevated privileges, nor content for use in other applications.

DAZ Studio is free but the content you need to make the most of it is not. DAZ  makes its profits from selling the content, not Studio itself.

You do get the Genesis Starter Essentials, among other things, free.

    Have fun!

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  • The [Disco Chives] Misplaced Parrot Complaint Thread

I have a car where it still needs a key for the door, a different one for the ignition and a third one for the fuel cap. It has zero chips or transistors in it, zero water cooling and rubber bands forming the stretchy bits in the seat. The central locking is the driver reaching over to lock each door. My complaint with it is that it rusts so fast I don't want to use it despite the fact I love using it.

    It's a 2CV

My other car has a rear view camera and such appaling rear visibility, it needs one. Also it slides on frost on the road when the 2CV didn't/doesn't. And it's wider externally and has less internal room. I think it's a reverse Tardis - the inside volume is so much smaller than the outside that it doesn't compute.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • DIM visual thumbnails missing...

    Hey Guys,

I have the latest version of DIM installed on my Mac. When looking at the DIM page samples on the DAZ3D site, it shows all of the items have visual thumbnails of the products, somewhat similar to what Daz Central had. But in my DIM, there's only a generic gray box for each item. Is there somewhere to activate this thumbnsil feature that I've missed?

    Thx

    - Sol

I still don't get the fanatic attachment to DIM. I had to use it for a week or so and I am relieved to be able to go back to Daz Central for some unknown period of time during which it has returned from the dead.

DIM is better than manually installing stuff. I just recently bought a bunch of stuff at the other place and spent the better part of an evening carefully installing things manually. Yes, DIM is better than that, for sure, and would've seemed great at a time when that was the only alternative. And I'm grateful that after a week of installing stuff with DIM, it doesn't appear that there are any dire disasters with my happy, working Daz instance built entirely with Daz Central. But after using Daz Central for the entire time I've been using Daz (eg, since summer 2021), I find DIM to be clunky, with many steps, not obvious how to do what I'm there 99.9% of the time to do - install new stuff ... and only new stuff, not relics of old products that apparently had DS and PS installations, not 4.22, which I plan to upgrade to on my terms, when I'm ready. In Daz Central I just ensure that the products are sorted by Order Date - which they always are - and click Install. What happened, years and years ago, that freaked people out about Daz Central? Or is it partly a case of mistaken identity, thinking that we're attached to DazConnect (which truly is a giant nuisance)?

I read the reason for my attachment to DIM in your message: I started using it  l o n g  before Daz Central - and I've never used Daz Central.

I'm sure you like DC a Lot more because you're so used to it - got to grow to love how it works, etc.,

It's the same for me with DIM. I rely heavily on it and I don't need pictures in it to use it for what I use it for. It's my database manager/content keeper/installer. I love it!

I don't know how Daz Central worked, but I love how I can quickly locate a product and find everything that came with it. Amazing how many tutorials and such come with content. But I also use it to locate texture maps, additional product options and I also find it incredibly handy for moving my content from one directory to another via Uninstall/re-install. Fast and simple, though it doesn't load very fast - but that's okay with me :)

Anyways, I'm glad that Daz Central is back up for you. Maybe they changed their minds?

DIM can also sort by Order Date, there's a Sort Order drop-down on each tab.

We are told this is on the list (but no ETA).

Please tell me it will be optional? I don't want my stuff in a grid. sad

    Plus 1 yes

On the Downloads and Ready to Install tabs, I really only want to see a list of products ready to download/install with their package size clearly visible

On the Installed tab I want to see as many products as possible with their installed size and package date clearly visible. (I do like the recent enhancement that shows an orange underscore on products with a newer version available)

    Oh, sounds good!

butterflyfish Pretty sure it will be an extra view that we can choose. Even in DAZ Central it wasn't the default view. Fancy scrolling through 1000s of items with a grid-only view! surprise But once you run searches on your items (like "ruins" or "pirate"), search results are easier to look over in a grid view where you can actually see what the things look like... wink
