waited a day too long and now lost the Bridgette HD morph at 70% off and the tulips.. i haven't bought a new release in 3 days I guess. its always something. Do i want to spend the cash or not is the problem. i actually decided not to buy anything, but then today I'm like I really need to buy this stuff.. I'm sitting on it again until my mind makes itself up.

  • Expression Mixer Question

After testing Expression Mixer on a character, the face seemed to lock in an radical, ugly grin, and none of my morph dials or expression poses will do much to zero the face out, and return the character to a less radical look.

(I also tried unchecking the the lock-unlock options in Expression Mixer.)

Is there a zero or reset face option in Expression Mixer that I am not aware of?

...or is this just a glich, maybe?

  • DS & Titan RTX

Is that 10-20% based on any testing using a Titan RTX or 2080ti utilizing FULL RTX hardware based raytracing acceleration? Because if the answer is no, then those numbers mean nothing in this particular situation. These cards are in a completely different league performance-wise than almost anything that's come before them.

I can't follow you. RTX has nothing to do with OOC textures. I mean if we're talking of rendering engines. If we're talking of games then it's another story and OOC doesn't apply there of course. If you mean a rendering engine using RTX for raytrace then it depends. If it is tile-based then the system will transfer the textures for one tile then RTX will work just fine.

Non HEDT systems don't have enough dedicated PCI-E lanes to fully drive two (much less three) graphics cards at full x16 speed (your motherboard may have 3 x16 sized slots on it. But the reality is that those slots will drop down to x8 or even just x4 if you fully populate them with graphics cards.) Neither can they drive quad-channel memory. And regardless, not even an HEDT system is gonna have a prayer of "matching" Titan RTX level graphics performance.

I know, and 8x is good enough for OOC transfers. As is dual channel ram. For example with two 8x cards and a 2666 dual channel ram you will have 8G transfer per card and 40G bandwidth on ram. Of course it's not as nvlink but it'll work fine to transfer textures.

EDIT. It seems to me that you overestimate the bandwith needed for rendering. To get the idea consider that most hd games run just fine at full speed with pcie 2.0 that's half the pcie 3.0. Also consider that CPU based engines work at full speed with DDR3 ram that's about 10G transfer rate. So you see that bandwith is only a small factor in rendering.

  • Selling Characters. morphed to a face shape and body -

If you want a single slider for your character you can do that with ERC Freeze. Set up the shape, with everythign else zeroed (I would recommend not having the navel set, even if you expect to use it, and certainly not the nipples). Right-click in the parametrs pane and set edit Mode on. Right-click in the group you want to have th slider and Create New proeprty. set the new property to 1. Right-click on the new property>ERC Freeze, make sure the rightt hings are selected as Sub Components, click Accept. Now you can use File>Save As>Support Assets>Morph Asset to save just your new property, which you can share with others as it doesn't embed the morphs but simply sets them if theya re present.

  • Skinny ribs for Genesis 8

Sakura's ribs are the best I have seen. However, they are a bit too uniform, too anime/stylized perhaps. They also seem to stop half way around the chest, appearing on the front of the chest only. I'd certainly be interested in an alternative, hopefully more realistic, skinny ribs morph,

  • Is it possible to use a Gen 3 skin texture on a Gen 8 model?

Textures using G3F Base UVs can be used on G8F directly, and same for the males.

For the few textures using different UVs than the base (mostly the ones included with “character 7”) you would need to use the Map Transfer tool in DS to convert them to the Base UVs first.

  • Native Daz file import for Blender - How does Daz feel about that?

Maybe a DAZ to Unity & DAZ to UE4 is coming from this morphed Morph
3D toTati (or whatever that new name for Morph 3D is).

Reallusion has a live link to Unreal in testing.

Autodesk Maya has a working live link to Uunreal.

In both cases you animate in your native application with realtime
high end character animation,motionbuilding/editing tools , and your exported
character auto updates live in the game engine for game development
or realtime  cinematic cuts scene /movie making.

Unreal is Free and will run on any modern computer that
most  people (certainly gamers) ,already own

Morph3D/Tafi seems to have decided that people need custom avatars for AR/VR
platforms like the "vive" system etc.
"Gofigure"  originally though much the same.. and where are they these days?

The MCS system is becoming open source
    https://www.morph3d.com/morph-character-system

The price war is on it seems.

All of  AR/VR systems require you to invest in a separate hardware device that ultimately
may not become a widely accepted standard and dissappear (have you seen any "Google Glass" devices lately??)

Daz has acquired the rights to the GraphMate&KeyMate plugins.

My personal  prediction is that Daz is planning Major updates to the Daz studio Character animation tool set
with a human IK system and a special version of Genesis built  specificially for Character animation.
that will directly Challenge Reallusion in terms of figure diversity, performance and  most certainly pricing.

  • Skinny ribs for Genesis 8

If you have https://www.daz3d.com/sakura-8 the 'Ribs Detail' morph works on other G8F figures - as do most (all?) of Sakura 8's morphs.

You could do a search in your Parameters pane (with any G8F loaded and selected) for ribs, and see if any morphs are there already.

  • Bridget 8

Does anyone know how I can find out, whether the outfit from Bridget8's promo picture (i.e. tie, blouse, business pants and belt) are included in the bundle and/or available separately?
I can't find any information on the product page on that.

    Thank you for your help!

It's definitely not in the bundle.  The blouse, pants, and belt all look like they are from H&C Business Suit A.  The tie, I'm not sure, but I'm getting a Gen 8 Male vibe from it.  I can't recall ever seeing a tie like that on a Gen 8 Female outfit.

Isn't that the flirty school girl outfit? https://www.daz3d.com/flirty-school-uniform-for-genesis-8-female-s

    Oops not it...

Yeah, the knot is way too low on that one.  After a tone of fighting, I'm giving up.  The closest match I could find was what Divamakeup suggested, Time for School for Gen 3 Female.  It was an absolute bear to morph, though.  Maybe if someone did a custom job to dForce it, but the morphs and joints don't work to get you that look and neither does just throwing the Dforce modifier on and hoping for the best.

There's an addition for the thread on what articles of clothing we'd like to see!  A morphable (like tails or tentacles usually are) or fully dForce necktie for Gen 8 Female!

  • Skinny ribs for Genesis 8

Request for a DAZ3d PA to make a "Skinny ribs" morph for Genesis 8. I'm looking for a morph to make the Genesis 8 figure have her ribs showing as in the attached images. I'm not looking for a totally anorexic/zombie look, just very skinny as some women are naturally. If you care to add other skinny morphs to the package such as prominent hip bones, knobbly knees etc, that would be nice too.

I have tried modeling skinny ribs for Genesis 8 myself in Zbrush, but there are simply not enough polygons in the base mesh (thanks DAZ3d angry ) to make a realistic looking morph. This, unfortunately for me, has to be a HD morph.

  • GoZ wierdness

I'm not using GoZ anymore but I know of some issues I had in the past. ZBrush can't handle geometry issues like ngons or unconnected vertices while DazStudio simply ignores them.

My suggestion check that you "unfit" any geografts, hair and clothes of the Victoria 7 figure before using GoZ. Also if the figure is parented to a prop the whole thing gets imported to ZBrush.

If some figure attachments have issues in the geometry like ngones or unconnected vertecies GoZ dosn't work at least its giving you an error because vertex count dosn't match anymore if you try to get your sculpt back to DazStudio that is very frustrating at some times. On the other hand with quality assets there shouldn't be any geometry issues.

Thanks, Syrus. I tend to modify figures extensively with skin and morph utilities and I use a fair number of second-party items, so I'm probably going to run into this occasionally. Instead of trying to track the source of the problem I'll probably just use the workaround. In general Daz and Zbrush have been working well for me--I think Zbrush 2018 is more compatible with DS. Zbrush morphs haven't been distorted as they sometimes were in the past and I'm not getting a lot of crashes in either program.

  • Tongue Control HD for Genesis 3 and 8 (Commercial)

Also glad this shall have G3 compatibility! There are some characters from that range who could benefit from this. One of my favourite products and glad it'll be available, again!

Does that intriguing mouth stretching morph have the ability to make the cheeks/mouth narrow, too? The character looks like they're puffing air out. Seems like the mouth would narrow to reflect skin elasticity.

  • Selling Characters. morphed to a face shape and body -
Also not, "end of story" - you are not allowed to use other people's morphs or other morphs that aren't Merchant Resources "baked in" with figures you sell. To imply that you would is not only unethical but that's theft of other people's work. It's REALLY not cool to imply that you would do that.

First of all, I'm talking only about Daz morphs - morphs, that was created by Daz team, like Genesis 8 Male Head Morphs or Growing Up for Genesis 8 Male(s). It's not a merchant resources and created by "other people"... So, I can't mix them to create custom character for sell on Daz Store and give 50% of earnings to these "other people"? Really? I'll show you dozens figures that uses and requires Growing Up for Genesis 8 Male(s). Why they're doing this? It's so "unethical"!.

The second. According to what you said all figures that are on sell are hand sculpted in Zbrush or somewhere else. But I pretty mush sure that is not true.

    End of story.

Growing Up is a @Zev0 product, not created by "Daz team". You CAN use Growing Up to create your characters but you can't BAKE THEM into your character morph. If you want to use Growing Up or any other non-Merchant Resource morph in a character that you sell, you have to set the character up with shaping presets that dial in those morphs (setting it up so that the non-MR is a required product). That's completely ok - again you just can't BAKE those morphs in.

There is nothing unethical about using other people's morphs to create characters to sell as long as those morphs are needed by the customer for the use of the character -setting it up so the morphs are a required product. The Unethical part would be to bake those morphs other people have created into your figure and selling that.

  • Native Daz file import for Blender - How does Daz feel about that?

On the other hand it should be possible to do such a thing with
Blender. As there is the source code available,
it should be possible to write a plugin that mimics the
behaviour of Daz Studio for most of the features.
It may require to get a more detailed information about
the way the Daz files work.
Is Daz interested to share some information,
or do we have to reengineer, how it works?
For Daz it could offer an additional market for the assets.

Learn the DSON Code/spec and use that for a Daz content bridge to blender
This fellow did and is now working with Daz to complete his, DSON based, Maya plugin
    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/278111/dex-dson-exchange-plugin-for-maya

According to a forum post ,by a Daz employee, they have given him access to internal SDK's
not available to the general public, so expect this plugin for Maya to be the most complete
Genesis to Maya solution ever created.

( An early pre alpha version)

Anything other than the official  DSON Method is just one more
dodgey "Squiffy,Mason" handshake that will quickly be forgotten.sad

  • AUTO-FIT my own content to Genesis 8 characters?
Because my goal is that my content will fit ALL Genesis 8 characters not just a specific one.

That's not how clothing gets applied to a Genesis character. If you build the clothes to fit Genesis 8 on its own, then DAZ|Studio will automatically generate fit morphs for any character you dial up on the G8 figure.

Note that, as said upthread, this automatic process is pretty good, but not perfect — sometimes you will need to manually create a morph for a proper fit if the auto process just doesn't look good.

  • Selling Characters. morphed to a face shape and body -

To be clear. I'm not created any custom figure yet and may be I'm wrong, but I think I don't need to make custom JCMs if default JCMs works well with my custom figure. And the second thing: nobody never knows if I used DAZ morphs or sculpted face by hands in Zbrush or Blender if I load it as a morph. That's it. So I can use any tools I know and have and any merchants resources to make figures for sell. End of story.

Just note that there's a lot more into making characters for sale, and from this conversation I'm reading, some should get ready for their characters to be rejected at submission. As far as getting characters to pass QA here, potential PAs will need to learn how to do correctives for poses and expressions, not only for the base morph, but you're going to do eyelashes or anything the crushes the mesh in testing. If you're just trying to skate by with baking other's morphs in and you don't know how to fix them into a solution that passes QA, the submitter is going to get called on that product. And that will stop your career right in its tracks.

I would suggest people learn how to make stuff from scratch and see how that goes before you try to sell anything,

That's why I suggested doing skin materials as too many forum going members have said they often buy just for the skin materials and nothing else. Not that doing skin materials that 'wow' is any easier than doing all that sculpting, morphing, JCM, & MCMs stuff but it should be a good start to her or other interested folk.

I guess they could to the morphs and skip the skin texture materials but several PAs already do that.

Depends on the restrictions, if any, in the merchant resource. Most don't allow for free characters, some are figure specific, etc.
