Yeah this, skin textures were created without spectral rendering in mind. I highly doubt someone will be using it when you need to convert 500+ textures in a big scenes and there's no way Daz is gonna convert them and provide updated materials. Currently it's as nice as it is unuseable.

Well you can still use rec709 for spectral tho. I think color correction could be done (or not) within the shader. And one more for Hdri if any I guess. If anything it might be also possible (or not) to batch convert via script and auto-remap them.

Made a quick test via OCIO, used 'Utility-Linear-sRBG' as source and 'ACES-ACEScg' as output. Only skin is converted (face/arms/torso/lips), used diffuse as trans map. Highlights/black at near 0.

I tried Victoria 8 with your settings and it looks way off for me when compared to rec709. It would need to be converted automatically during shader compiling. It's too tedious to do it manually... I wouldn't convert all those OOT hair textures in that picture IMO.

Yes, I have gotten some of those 16 to work fine.

Thanks. This confirms my suspicions that I can't use it on customized Daz folders. **sigh**

What is your expectation of what the HD add-ons actually do?

They do not include the shape of the character head,  only the HD details.  For example, Twosret 8 is one of the 4 bundled add-on's.  The Twosret8 HD is also one of the HD characters that have been updated with MetaMixer support for those who have bought it.  These are 2 separate things.  With both installed, you can add either (or both) to a single MetaMixer slot (A, B, or C) to get the shape, the HD details or both.  If you just have the updated HD add on, you are just adding the fine details (wrinkles, pores and so on) which can be hard to see in the viewport.

The Mixer shapes say they load the figure PLUS the hd addon. If I add one, it acts like it loads, but there is no icon in the corresponding circle and no change at all in the figure's face (I've done quite a few test renders and there is NO change). So far, the only ones that are working for me are the ones that were supplied with the MetaMixer. This leads me to believe I've got to buy something else, which, after having overpaid for the Daz base figure HD's anyway, I'm not willing to do. So I guess I'm uninstalling ;). 75 bases and HD addons I've bought (just for 8 and 8.1) and I'm not buying them twice. It is good for a simple morpher tho, but I can do that in other software more easily. IF there is nothing else to buy, something is not working correctly and since I have custom content folders I can only assume that it's calling files outside the data folder which I have moved and that Studio can't find. At this point, I'm not sure which scenario is the correct one, but I'm pretty certain I know which one. Time will tell.

Take a look at the screenshots I've attached.  I've added just the Victoria 8 HD MetaMixer add-on.  One of the screenshots is with the powerpose widget pulled down so that the HD is not added.  The other is with the widget pulled up to mix in the HD add-on.  For these screenshots, I've increased the figure sub-division to 3, switched the viewport to filament, and applied the gray clay material that comes with MetaMixer.  I think that you can see the difference between the two in the details in the lips and around the eyes.

We will have to wait to see whether the base characters will be updated for free.

I'll check it again after Thanksgiving. I have too much cooking to do. :)

Edit: nevermind. They don't work anyway.

I haven't had anything update at all except Khesmit. It's very confusing since the "instructions" have characters shown that I actually own (for instance Topsy 8 in the pdf and Celani and Freya in the video) that are not showing up in the characters folder even though I own them. I do not however own the HD for those BUT the regular characters are showing up as widgets which is misleading if you need to own the HD morphs as well. I do own Victoria 8.1 HD add on though and she doesn't show up either. You think she would be included. A list from DAZ of supported characters would have been nice (and also necessary????). I was able to make a regular morph though so I guess it's not totally usless since it was free

I suspect the whole backlog of Daz characters will be made MetaMixer ready. It's a whole process to create the MM presets and there are hundreds of characters.

    @Faux2D You're really killing it.

I don't suppose the process for creating MM presets will ever be documented, so that I can hack all my characters from renderosity? Or so that the original authors could MM-ify their own products?

Using a Mac with its current OS I had to use a 4.15 beta.  A few streange problems - notately Victoria 8.1 wouldn't load.  4.16.1.2 beta cleared that up, so I thought I'd get past the beta and use the new 4.16 release.  That led to crashes so I'm back on the latest beta which is more stable for me.  Unless you're trying to run a Mac with its current OS I'd stay away from 4.16 for awhile.

I'm not sure how this works. If you could buy, for example, support for Genesis 3 female and then mix any Genesis 3 fermale characters I would definitley be interested. If you have to buy support for each character you want to mix then I'm not interested. If it works by numbered characters, e.g. buying support for Victoria 7 mean you can mix any Victoria 7 based characters then I might be interested.

I've "bought" the free for Daz+ members version but I've only installed the beta version of Studio 4.16, does it work in the beta? An unrelated point, DIM showed the me the both the beta and release versions of 4.16 for the first time yesterday. I thought the point of a beta was that it came out before the release version?

Of course this add-on has to have the trendy "Meta" in it's name. As fasr as I can work out the word Metamix should mean a mix of mixes

Here is the start of another idea by me.  Inspired by a 1950s advertizement for homebuying, I thought it might be adapted for young people of prom-going age.

'Going to the Prom: AKA Shut up and kiss me, AKA Don't ruin it by talking.'

The figures are vintage Victoria 3 and David 3.  The cubes are placeholders for a corsage box and candy box.  I'm not happy with the hair morphs for V3 hair.  I experimented with stacking some GMIC filters.

Last I read in their thread (before it vanished), DAZ wouldn't approve their latest creation, probably because they have such a taboo against child characters and what certain folks might do with them. Not much point being here if the store won't sell your stuff.

Pretty sure they came here specifically because people had been requesting they do an HD add-on for their charcters, like how you can get HD for Victoria 7 & 8, which is a DAZ store exclusive thing. I don't know what the HD addons provide because I've never bothered with them, but I think that's what they wouldn't allow.

Angel_Wings told us she would give it one more shot and after that vanished out of thin air. Child characters by others have been released in HD I don't think that is the problem.

The child characters by others have been toonish ones.

Not all HD child characters are toonish. For instance, just look at Mia HD by Zev0 or Macey and Chani HD by bluejaunte.

  • Post your DAZ to Unity renders

    Youtube Video:

Performance testing iPhone VR + DazStudio assets: 35 Victoria 8.1 models dancing in HelloCardboard example scene.

Daz Assets imported into Unity 2020.3 URP with uDTU 1.2.  Decimator for Daz Studio used to reduce each model to ~110,000 polygons (figure+clothing+hair).  All models are being drawn at full game resolution (110K polys) with no instancing, LODs, billboards or other tricks.  For reference, Victoria 8.1 at base Daz Studio resolution is about ~34,000 polygons (no subdivisions).  Maximum texture resolution in Unity was set to 512.  Demo was played and recorded on iPhone Xs using iOS Screen Recording built-in software on iOS 14.8.

A lot of people are doubtful about the feasibility of using Daz Figures in games because they think Daz Figures are way too high definition.  This should prove to you that even a 4 year old smartphone can process a scene containing 35 NPCs made with Genesis 8 and draw 8-10 at the same time in stereo without any performance loss (not even accounting for real-time video capture and encoding with the same device).  If I incorporated LODs, animated billboards and advanced culling system, the number of NPCs could be even higher.  The main hurdle is choosing hair and clothing which has the same level of optimization as the Genesis 8 Daz Original figures.  If they are not optimized, then you will need a polygon reduction tool.

FYI, the hair on some models is disappearing at the edges because the VR camera is not using the full stereoscopic viewing angle (both cameras) to cull objects on the screen edges.  This is worked-aound in the current version of the demo by resizing the hair's bounding box to be the same size and placement as the actual figure.  This way, if you see the figure, you will always see the hair.

The anatomical elements (genitalia) are included with the Pro Bundles (Victoria 8, Aiko 8, but NOT Rynne 8, she's a child or teen character, they don't get the genitalia). You can verify from the product page under "What's Included and Features" to see what's in the bundle. (They are not included with the base figure nor the Starter Bundles). There will be a plain text entry called "Genesis 8 Anatomical Elements" (no hyperlink to a product page as they are not sold separately). If not, then they are not included. As Gordig suggested, Victoria 8 is often used as a base for other characters, so that would be a good place to start. There are something like 30+ other adult female Genesis 8 Pro bundles to choose from. You will need at least one of those to use that torso material. The term "Anatomical Elements" also includes any attachments that are not part of the base figures, like fibremesh eyebrows, different eyelashes, maybe wings, gills, fins, horns, tails, etc.

The morph packages are for shaping only, nothing to do with textures. The head morphs and body morphs are separate products, but can be used with any figure of the same generation and gender. Some characters are made using the base morphs ("dialed-in"), others use custom morphs that are created by the artist.

G3F Body Morphs, G3M Body morphs, G8F Body Morphs, G8M Body Morphs. To get the genitals, which are called "anatomical elements" here, you have to have to buy any Adult, as in not a teen or toon, Figure Pro bundle or themed bundle, female for the female gentials male for the male genitals. Though the 8.1 adult bundles now have both sets of genitals.

    Gordig said:

There is no Akari pro bundle, nor is there a generic G8 pro bundle. You'd need the pro bundle for a core figure, i.e. Michael, Victoria, etc. If you're only going to buy one per gender per generation, those are probably the ones to buy, because they're the most commonly referenced by other products, but any (adult, non-toon) pro bundle will include the anatomical elements, so you're free to grab whichever pro bundle(s) would best suit your needs.

Ok, so in order to use this texture, I would need to purchase
G8F Body Morphs ? Or I would need to purchase Victoria 8 Pro Bundle, or Aiko, Rynne, etc.? And it can't be the base figure, or the starter bundle, it must be the pro bundle.

    Are either of those correct?

The morphs were posted in response to your other question, about missing neck morphs, and have nothing to do with anatomical elements. Those would be found in any of the pro bundles you listed, and yes, it would have to be the pro bundle, not the starter bundle or base character.

edit: except for Rynne. As a toon character, her bundle doesn't include the anatomical elements. Aiko, apparently, is not considered a toon.

Pose convertors... How about pose transfer? Where you apply the pose to a G1 or G2 and transfer the pose to a G8 by script. I have produced 2 freebie scripts that do what you ask for. They are available in the freebie forum here or are much more easily found on Renderosity.

    G2->G8 https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/89255/g2f-pose-transfer-to-g8f

Also done scripts to do the same job with V3, A3, M3, V4, A4, G4, M4, H4 & F4 to G3F, G3M, G8F and G8M as appropriate. Most combinations are bi-directional, so G8M poses can be applied to The Freak 4 etc. Additionally, V5->V4 and V4<->V6 is possible with yet more scripts. I tried very hard to make the script change the pose correctly between generations. There are three things that have to be considered at each joint. The first is whether the joint goes in the same direction, then if 1 degree rotation at the joint is the same for each generation (not always) and finally the offset rotation needed to make the zero poses the same. With V3 & V4 there is no equivalent to the G8 pelvis. The abdomen, chest and neck poses have to be split over two G8 bones, but that's easy enough to do. After that, it's a slog but not difficult. The scripts are around 2400 lines long, take 10-15 seconds to run on my 8yo machine. They are not difficult to understand if you want to look at the details of the code.

Hope they are of use. Regards, Richard

Oh, I have those scripts, they work great. The reason I'm requesting a converter, is that I have a BUNCH of G1 and G2 poses, and saving each one by hand is a pain and a half.

This confused me a little. Akari by Lyoness ( https://www.daz3d.com/akari-hd-for-genesis-8-female ) was one that came with this texture, and it also came with some anatomical elements, but the only thing in there was eyebrows. If I wanted to unlock that texture, would I need the Akari Pro Bundle or the Genesis 8 Pro bundle? Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see either of them in the shop.

The scripts are around 2400 lines long, take 10-15 seconds to run on my 8yo machine. They are not difficult to understand if you want to look at the details of the code.

Hope they are of use. Regards, Richard

  • Victoria 8.1 skin, who made.

Anyone know who made the skin for Vicky 8.1 if in fact it was a PA?

Or was it just a daz employee who does not sell other things?
