  • DazCentral how to reset Installation Paths?

Hello, Today I migrated from install manager to DazCentral. I installed DazCentral and uninstalled DIM so far so good. now I am having issues with assets not showing up inside the Daz Editor. For example in DazCentral Unity Bridge is marked as installed but it does not show up inside Daz Studio. oldy enough Blender bridge shows up in Daz Studio regardless of beein installed in DazCentral or not.
The Base Path is marked as "managed by DIM" well DIM is not even installed on the computer so how is it supposed to manage the installation paths of DazCentral.
What path should I use for DazCentral so it actually works?

Daz Central uses a single master folder, and placs everything in pre-set sub-folders of that. Since you already had a different arrangement Daz Central is using that, but it doesn't have the facility to edit the separate paths. Why are you usding Daz central now? You are presumably past the initial set up pahse where its simplifcations are meant to make life easier, and may well be at the stage of needing the extra flexibility that DIM offers (especially if you are working with other applications).

  • API for DIM, or other ways of targeting specific content types

    Greetings,

Is there any chance I can ask for the data sources and API used by DAZ Install Manager?

I've reached a point where my total Library is taking up too much of my Macbook Pro's 4TB internal drive, and I want to eliminate all V4 and Genesis (but not Genesis 2, 3, or 8 based items, and not environments, etc.) from my library to free up space.

There's no way to do that within DAZ Install Manager, even though a dataset _is_ available to do that from the DAZ store site, easily downloadable.  (https://www.daz3d.com/dazstatic/slab/getFilters?all=true)  I'd like to build myself a trivial tool, obviously nothing as powerful as DAZ Install Manager, that lets me filter my installed items by compatible figure, so I can at least have an idea which ones I need to remove.

Since I get the feeling that major changes to DAZ Install Manager are unlikely, now that DAZCentral is out, and DAZCentral is unusable to me (too large a collection, and non-Windows use) I'd really like it if the PTB would pass along information about how to implement some of the stuff ourselves.

I'll acknowledge, it's a little frustrating, because the local database side is problematic.  I feel like I'm not going to be able to remove the smart content rows from the Postgresql database, even if I can

    • Find the list of V4 compatible items (for example)
    • Cross reference them with still-installed Manifestfiles for those SKU's
    • Cross reference files mentioned inside those Manifestfiles with ones installed in my various 'My Library' locations
    • Decrement the counts for each file in the related InstallManagerFileRegister.json
    • Removing the file if the counts got to zero for each file
    • Removing the Manifestfiles so they don't show up as installed anymore.

After all that, Smart Content will still have the data, but with broken icons, because the database is still relatively opaque to me, unfortunately.  I'm not sure if there's a parent row that I can delete, where the deletion will `cascade` to the subsidiary tables.  I need to do more investigation there...  If the foreign keys to a central SKU table are set up as 'ON DELETE CASCADE' then this'll work really well.  If not, then I'm going to have to figure out all the related tables...

Optimally, DAZ Install Manager would allow filtering by compatible product by using the openly available JSON containing that data, but that would take a lot of work on someone's part.  In lieu of that, if we could have API information about how to retrieve the Manifestfiles for things we've purchased (presumably there's a 'signin' method, and then a request to download owned SKUs, and then a way to request individual manifest files for each sku, and then a way to download the .zips for selected skus) that would make it a lot easier for me to build myself my own tool to manage my library.  This would let me create a tool that only downloads the zips for items that meet the filters I want to build (like 'NOT (Gen3 OR Gen4 OR Genesis)').  I can then use InstallManager to (1) hide the items that I don't care to see right now, and (2) install the already-downloaded ZIP files for the newer products.

For what it's worth, I've already removed nearly everything identified by 'V4' or 'Victoria 4', but there's a significant number of items (and worse, _textures_ for those items!) which don't have the compatible item in their title, and thus are not searchable-for in the filter.  And the problem gets worse in Genesis, especially because the textures got larger.

ne solution was to use filter-by-SKU-range.  Unfortunately, I want a significant number of the environments within the lower SKU ranges, because they can be up-shifted to Iray relatively well.  I really like environments, so I don't want to delete or avoid those, but manually working through hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of items is exhausting, and frustrating, and I know I'm missing things, and it's especially galling when the data is...right there, loaded the first time you pull up the DAZ store page, and stored in localstorage in the browser, or available via a trivial GET request.

Thanks very much for any information anyone can pass along.

  • How can I do a Completely Clean Install ?

In the Studio Content Pane, I had four (!) different DAZ libraries. I have no idea when DC "decides" to move items to a special place.

The problem is that the simplified "training wheels" DAZ Central system uses only one download/installation location for everything, and if you don't want to use the default, this must be set before it starts trying to download. If your existing content setup includes multiple content library locations, Central is supposed to pick up on that. When it doesn't, that's when the "DAZ deleted my content!!!" posts start. I wouldn't recommend anyone already using DIM and happy with it to attempt installing Central — that's not what it's for.

  • Complete DAZ failure

DAZ Central can't discover DAZ studio and is caught in a perpetual "Loading" loop until it finally freezes.

DAZ Studio 4.14 crashes within one second of trying to open it.

DAZ IM no longer works at all and there is no way to install the older DAZ Studio 4.12.

After spending $100s ($1000s?) on this to have a digital brick on my hard drive is frustrating to say the least. Is DAZ planning on fixing any of these problems or answering support tickets this year?

BUT ... EUREKA ... I tried this morning. no luck. Then all of a sudden after another purge of my system, I installed DAZ Central and it started to work, but not totally..so i did another purge and installed DIM ... Finally installed and my products in DAZ ;library came up ..well, 1st it had a list of products that had to be installed, which it did... the only deal is that when DAZ Studio installed  it had some different paths then DIM. I think I have them pretty much reconciled right now and DIM is connected into my DAZ purchases ...so we're on our way. At least I'm getting osme stuff installed, but a ocuple eneded someplace else, which I will try to sort out.
WOW ... i think I'm seeing daylight here. I want to thank everyone that has offered great advice. If nothing else, I've learned a lot about the folder/file structure, and enough to realize it could be so much simpler than what the software programmers have come up with. I think DAZ needs to step back and try to go back to basics, to things that work,, with their programs , their store, and everything they do.

    Wonderful news! Congrats! smiley

  • Can't log in to Daz Central

I appreciate the input, but I am not using a passwords manager. I checked Multiple times. It seems when I try to log into Daz central, my machine gets messed up when it tries to communicate with the website. After I try to log into Central I can no longer access the daz website as the certificate becomes invaild and my computer blocks the site until I uninstall daz central. Its really wierd. But do i really need daz central? I downloaded daz studio just fine.

No download (Manual/DIM/Daz Connect) for MMX Resource Saver Shaders Collection 3 for Iray

Same for me, still not fixed. Instead of submitting a ticket to tech support, I will now start to ask for a refund in such cases. I am fed up, really, as this sh** happens each and every single day.

Same issue here too. And it's not in DAZ Central either.

Looks like it's been fixed, and the downloads are working (for now).

Another thing I've noticed is that the forums appear to be missing their special symbols & font formatting. Possibly points to missing or corrupt CSS code.

  • Daz Studio 4.14 Pro, General Release!

    Would be really awesome if;

    1. DAZ would install from either DIM or DC (neither work)

    2. DAZ had Filament on a mac

    3. I could actually use the products I have paid for!  They are all 'missing' even though DIM and DC report they are all installed.

    4. If anyone from DAZ would respond to any of my technical support requests (I think 3-4 weeks is poor ar best and still no responses)

Let me make sure I understand what you're saying:

    1) You can install content using DIM, but you cannot install Daz Studio using DIM?  What happens when you try?

    3) Can you post the content installation path from DIM (and Daz Central, if they're different), and the Content Directory Manager with all sections expanded from Daz Studio?  Are they missing in Smart Content, Content Library > Products/Categories, Content Library > Daz Studio Formats/Poser Formats, or all three?

@daveso Obviously, DIM is getting that info from somewhere! So, let's think about where and how Daz stores data.

Daz devs love .dsx files for storing info. That's an extension you can use to track down anything you've missed. Every item DIM downloads will have an associated .dsx file .

Your installed product manifest files are stored in C:->users->your-user-profile->Documents->Daz3D->ManifestFilesDIM

Daz devs keep info about your Daz3D programs in the directory C:->users->your-user-profile->Appdata->Roaming->Daz3D->Studio4 . If you're eliminating everything, that's an easy one to miss.

I hope you backed up everything before you began deleting it all!

i have most of it other than the newest couple of weeks. I for sure deleted all those "hidden" folders and files. The thing that DIM cannot connect to are my purchases on the DAZ site/store. Daz Central the same problem.
If it ever gets fixed, I will use DIM. DAZ cEntral was one of the things that totally messed up my installation. It was messed before, but that finsihed it off.

I'm glad you've got your content backed up. I remember you had a big problem with Central! Yes, awful!

If DIM can't connect to the store and you have all your product zips, you can get rid of the .dsx files in your download directory. If you don't have the zip, you'd have to download it - obviously impractical for a large catalog. Then you put the zip(s) in your DIM download directory and start DIM offline. DIM will see the product(s) as downloaded but not installed, and you can install the product from DIM. Richard told me to do that with a product that was not showing up in DIM, and it worked like a charm.

No download (Manual/DIM/Daz Connect) for MMX Resource Saver Shaders Collection 3 for Iray

24 hours later on a non-holiday weekday and still no manual or DIM download options for this product.

    Available in Daz Connect

That's why I didn't mention Connect. And I have no idea about Central. Neither are acceptable options for me and many others.

At a bare minimum, products should first be made available through the Product Library since a customer might want to use them outside of Daz Studio (and some, like tutorials, are actually meant to be used outside of Daz Studio).

It showed up in DIM just now. I have opened a request for refund, and currentlyII am split between withdrawing that request and downloading the shader, or keep up the request. I do want this premature releases to stop. Almost every single day we have a new release that can be purchased, but not downloaded. And I am afraid, as long as we (the customers) accept that we have to wait xx hours to finally get what we have bought, this will not change at all. As long as the money moves into DAZ pockets, why change anything?

Please try again, I now have links in my Product Library (haven't checked DIM as it takes rather a long time to refresh for me).

File 3 of 4 fails in DIM and from the Product Library.

Iffy downloads are a current issue, usually they will cooperate after a bit. Daz is aware of, and working with its service provider on, the issue.

I am frustrated that the list of known issues is not maintained. There has been only one recent update, and that removed a bunch of things that are still plaguing people. For example, you say iffy downloads are a current issue that Daz is aware of, and yet it is not on the list. Where is a real list of what Daz believes are problems that are not yet resolved?

Perhaps that store upgrade just hit them in the face.... Perhaps no-one has the time to maintain the list, because everyone is fixing bugs and connecting loose ends. Nevertheless, it is very frustriting for us (customers) to be left in the dark, completely.... I really would appreciate a bit more communication from DAZ side.

Yeah, the impression you get is that the store upgrade came as much as a surprise to Daz as it did to the rest of us.  I guess they were preoccupied with DazCentral, and the upgrade just sort of snuck up on them.

this was probably the worst time you could have done this blush

probably. well, for sure. I was warned by Richard Hazeltine not to do it now. I was at the end of my capability to deal with the problems ..now I have more. BUT, not sure anymore how it all works, but DAZ Connect can install directly which is what I'm doing for now, but this will just create future problems. DAZ Central also was working but I don;t want it ... thinking of one more uninstall and going that route. Not sure if it pulls all products from your account or not.

If you use DIM then don't login through DS! Let DIM handle your installs and updates. You don't want Daz Connect to update your metadata if you use DIM.

DIM does not find any of my store contact ..nothing ... BUT, I just installed Daz Central, and its not finding it either. The loading icon just keeps spinning and spinning, so now I'm pretty convinced that it is a DAZ problem, not anything I'm doing. I did file a ticket but I'm not too sure I'll find out anything for quite some time.
I guess I'll skip DAZ Studio for awhile and hope this gets fixed. Wonder if DAZ will give me refund for all the stuff I've purchased and can;t use.

I just think you're shooting yourself in the foot by doing this now. I would wait for the connection issues with DIM to be resolved. Just my two cents. smiley

    Thanks Richard.

Yes, it would work. I can see it in DIM. But how often do we have to run this quest? Every day? And, this time, it took DAZ more than 36 hrs to make that product available for D/L. My concern is that this will never stop, as long as customers accept it. I do not have the feeling that DAZ is really taking this seriously, as we have such an issue almost every day now. Is this a store issue? Could be, it started basically with the switch-over. But then I would expect to see it in the known isses section. Is it a QC issue on DAZ side? Then I would appreciate if that gets solved. From a customer perspective, it is not acceptable.
