Carrara 8.5 Pro: Multiple Problems
could it be a permissions issue with the drive?
I replaced a drive recently copying everything over to it and renaming it with the same drive letter and can no longer run Forge, a Gradio browser based Ai GUi for Stable Diffusion XL on it
it is a permissions issue according to the CMD error and I tried many fixes to no avail, ended up copying the entire folder to my C drive NOT into the programs folder (another issue often) and it now runs perfectly
Carrara runs fine in programs folder on this PC but it didn't originally on my old Win7, because now it's in Programs but its actually on the E drive hardlinked to the tiny SSD C drive, my entire desktop and user data on that PC is actually on my E drive but looks like it is on the C drive
Poser 7 on the otherhand insisted on being on the actual C drive in the program folder to run, weird stuff
these things are very iffy at times and behave differently on every computer
Carrara 8.5 Pro: Multiple ProblemsNot sure if it's the computer or Carrara, but decided to just workaround it on a different computer.
Go with the flow. ;)

and annoyingly DON"T work in Carrara if the only option there is
cannot test that one now as rendering something else but you probably have to have the top level of the whole set selecte
Got it working. Many thanks for the help.
Carrara 8.5 Pro: Multiple ProblemsHi,
I haven't used Carrara in a year or two, but it's always worked perfectly.
But now it:- Can't add "Point At" modifier to cameras
- Can only pick "Linear" in tweener vs Bezier (though can adjust Ease-in/out graph)
- In Render Output, can't choose jpeg seqence, just avi
- Can't choose frame rate
- Can't choose which camera for animation
I used the latest Daz Install Manager to uninstall & re-install Carrara (online), but still have the same problems.
If worst comes to worst, I have Carrara installed on other older computers, but would like to
use on this one again. ASUS i7 laptop, Win 11.
Does anyone know what might be going on? Other than Windows updates, I haven't changed anything,
and Carrara 8.5 Pro worked perfectly in the past. Thanks!

Okay, thanks.
Categories disappeared, and cannot get files through search - how do I fix it?You need to back up the ContentCluster folder, as set in the Daz Studio or Install manager preferences. All applications that use the database (DS, DIM, Carrara) must be closed when you do this (otherwise a file might update mid-backup, and you would get a broken database).

After a long time, something from the Carrara area again.
It's a picture that's been on hold for a long time and never really wanted to be finished. I spent a lot of time fiddling with the light, but it just didn't produce the effect I wanted. It just doesn't look sunny enough in the foreground. Well, now it is what it is.Very nice, reminds me of the great HowieFarkes.

yes double that
+1

Carrara User Lost In Daz StudioOnce again trying to use DS. I have Urban Sprawl 3 (US3), I load Block 1 iRay, all is good, renders great in default scene (daytime). Then I go to "Materials/iRay/US3 Block1 Nightlight (H.Materials(s) MDL)" It says "Reading Asset" and a menu pops up, "Apply Heirarchical Material(s) Preset/Select Node(s) to apply to" I select all the nodes and hit "Accept". "Reading Asset" continues for a few seconds, then disappears. I render and get the same daytime lighting. What am I missing?

Freebie Challenge August 2025 - "Pure Cinema"
PURE CINEMA (August 2025 Freebie Competition)
Gather ye movie nerds (And nerdesses of course), for this month we celebrate film. However, for this challenge, there will be a small twist. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to recreate a scene from one of your favourite films. Forest Gump sat on a bench perhaps? A giant T-Rex breaking free from his paddock on a rainy eve maybe? Cobble your scene together with a sprinkling of your favourite freebies, and let us see it.
One important rule for this month though – Do not tell us what the scene is, and where it is from. It will be for the judges and fellow contestants to guess the origin of your movie scene. (This was the twist by the way)
Rules:
-
Minimum of 3 freebies.
-
A Maximum of 5 purchased items.
-
Genesis and its standard morphs are fine.
-
If you postwork your images, provide the base image.
-
You can use AI for post-work, upscaling, colour work etc, but you must provide the base image like above.
-
All Daz ecosystem programs are allowed – Bryce, carrara etc (Even poser, If you behave yourself)
-
Images pictures are subject to Daz TOS.
-
No max Entries on this one. I can't count. Do as many as you want.
This Freebie Challenge will end August 31st, 2025 @ 23:59 Daz time.

New purchases going MIAStrange, you are right.
I "bought" some very old GoFigure bundles because I owned all the member products and so the price was zero for the bundles. Only then, did the products I already owned 9 years ago and even longer, become available in DIM to download!!!
Some products will be in DIM but won't install correctly, especially Carrara and Bryce products.
Given all the GoFigure products I bought but don't show up in DIM, I wonder how many products I've bought total that I've never downloaded because they didn't appear in DIM to be downloaded?
New purchases going MIACarrara, Bryce, and a few of those type product components won't install.
Will DAZ ever improve animating?Imago said:
Separate plugins, you say? Isn't the same with any other software? Blender doesn't need this or that plugin to be fully working and usable?
No. While you can buy/download plugins to improve certain things in other programs, DS is missing a whole lot of functionality that is standard in other programs. I've never used Alberto's plugins, and I'm sure they're fine for what they are, but DS is a flawed platform to add all those complicated calculations. I can open C4D or Houdini and have a rigid-body or soft-body simulation going in a couple clicks, and it will play in realtime in the viewport.
I've also never used Carrara, and Daz hasn't updated it in years, but even THAT has a lot of the core functionality that DS doesn't. My understanding is that you can work with earlier generations of Daz figures pretty seamlessly in Carrara.
DAZ Studio is awesome for creating any kind of chars or creatures... How great it could become if it also could make better animations?
It would be great if DS were made more fully-featured, sure, but I'd definitely rather Daz keep improving on the things that DS is actually good at than add a lot of functionality that, based on their track record, probably wouldn't work especially well. Your starting argument was that DS is already great for animating and just needs a few improvements to replace Blender, and I can't call that anything but delusional.

what is your actual experience with other non Daz software that forms your comparative opinion?
I used Blender, Carrara, Anime Studio (Now MoHo, still using it to create 2D special effects), Poser, Iclone and Pencil.
I also tried Unreal, SFM and some other ones that I can't recall now (I'm old and they are about same age as me...
) both 2D and 3D softwares.Until I reached DAZ Studio... It was simple, immediate, quick and almost complete of all I needed. Ready to use chars, easily morphable figures, flexible materials, good rigging (up to G1/G2, then it's pure nightmare), lipsynch. I bought a few plugins and looked for some scripts to fill the holes and I was ready to create my animations. Learning curve way easier than that train wreck of interface of Blender (still atrocious even with the last improvements) and a colossal versatility thanks to its scripting and plugin system. Lately it even got fluids, particles, animated textures, physical engines for soft and hard bodies, cloth simulations, text-to-mesh conversion, hair physics, strand based hair, wrapping systems, mesh sculpting and much more.
As I can see, DAZ Studio just need a few little fixes to be perfect. As you say I have to "jump here and there" for the lipsynch... But it's still way less complicated than using a third party piece of software where I have to import a char (or a special dummy) and after creating the lipsynch, export into a "dirty" format that I then need to clean up in DAZ Studio. I tried a few of those lipsynch softwares, I can tell the difference.
If we finally can get that Lipsynch integrated in the 64bit version (there are some plugins in the store for that, but I still think the integrated is the best one available), some fixes in the timeline (so we can finally copy-paste keyframes corectly and scrub it with a single click), some improvement in the Graph pane (it definitely needs a more zoom out or move those gigantic buttons on some other part of the pane), some more tweeners (that, as I said, thanks to the existing TBC system can be done with simple integrated presets), a good IK-FK system and a more robust pinning method, DAZ Studio is ready to run against anyone.
At the moment I can fix those lacks with a few plugins and some scripts, the most absolutely free. We just need to make the Devs listen to our requests.
Just some fixes and everyone will forget about Blender.

Hello! I was able to import hair into Daz using polylines, but how do I add morphs? It doesn't seem to be possible to edit in GoZ. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
sadly the polylines seem to be static mesh onlly and cannot be conformed either (speaking as a person who imports Carrara hairs and converts to curves in DAZ)
related I imagine to the PA only Dforce ability, I discovered a month or so ago you can actually apply Dforce properties to them but they just are not seen when simulate clicked so definitly a block related to either the PBR shader or curve conversion
the geometry as ribbons can be dforced but is massive
(please note, I don't have the plugin yet, I just do hairs from Carrara AND Blender manually as obj importts I convert to polylines)
