  • [Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]

I need to look at the map transfer tool more, but I don't know I will be able to automate it.  After a cursory googling around, it doesn't look like the Daz Studio scripting API exposes the map transfer tool.

Oh... I didn't find any API, too... Damm it... that ruins all my plans for a little helper scripted I wanted to do in the future to save me tons of work...

I'll write a ticket with a feature request. Maybe you should that do, too, if we want to see the map transfer tool scriptable in a future DAZ version.

    Good idea!

  • Morphs from G3 to G8

I'm sure I'll get both and see which one I like the most - they both look great. And it looks like Riversoft's will have a script that will quickly transfer custom dialled characters from one figure in the scene to the other on the fly. That sounds awesome!

They both have features that sound extremely helpful, so I think I'll have to get both to see which one I like the most (assuming one isn't crazy expensive or something lol).

I am also basing my decision on my past experiences with both vendors and their products. Then again, I really don't have as much of a need for this as many others since I used the very early version of SBs script to transfer my custom figures over awhile back, but I was willing to support SB with a sale if it ever came out as a commercial product and now I can support Zevo instead

  • HOW DO I FIX THIS?
I don't know a thing about Blender.  .  .is it at all user friendly? I'm kind of a tech moron. (and a jargon idiot) I usually learn by poking buttons and seeing what they do as most tutorials and instructions are written for/by people who don't need them. It would be nice to be able to tweak my own morphs somehow

I don't think any unfettered 3D modelling program can honestly be called particularly user friendly.

There's a learning curve to all of them - because the program needs to be able to select and manipulate things in huge numbers of distinct ways, there's dozens of important keyboard/mouse shortcuts, hundreds of buttons and the like, and trying to guess at the controls for all those important functions is basically zero. So, no, I wouldn't recommend approaching them with the "infinite monkeys" technique.
Also, without some education on the subject, the programs can do dozens of things you didn't even imagine were a thing. A lot of the things I've learnt how to do in Blender are things I learned were even possible as a result of a tutorial or guide on something else entirely.

I'll be honest - learning a modelling program to even a fraction of its potential is a long and tedious process. However, knowing how to do it is a panacea for almost every case of a morph that isn't quite right, clothing that doesn't quite fit right in a certain pose, etc. So it does have a good pay-off.

@Mollytabby, I agree that Hana is a wonderful character and I recently used her skin material on a realistic character morph and had a wonderful result. DisparetDreamer created an excellent package for general use, not just anime/manga or stylistic styles.

Your work on the adjustments are simply lovely. So inspiring.

  • Morphs from G3 to G8

The transfer and proper linking of JCMs and MCMs is important for posing characters correctly. Zev0 had the advantage there, if I read the threads correctly. The Singular Blues script that I got very early on had that advantage, too.

    ..

It's the little things that drive you mad.
If anyone has an idea about how to make DazScript recursively delete folders, I'm all ears. I'm tired of thinking about that.
    Anyway, here's a prototype.
The use of this script is different than the old, but it's not massively so. All the old warnings apply. This could break your stuff, use at your own risk, etc. The point is to help develop it so that it is very unlikely to break your stuff.
    What's the same?
You still need to load the figure you want to transfer from.
You still need to select a favorite morph to tell the script what to transfer.
It will still transfer ALL the morphs in the same product as the targeted morph.

    What's changed?
You now need to load the Target figure.
Both figures need to be selected when the script is run.
The selection order is important. First select the source figure, then select the target.
The number of favorites is no longer important. The script should transfer all products associated with all favorites.
No more progress bar. No real point. The script moves so fast, there's not a lot of need for it.
The script is part of a system of files, and probably won't work if not installed correctly. It's not hard to install, but it has to be in the primary library (EDIT: Studio and you may disagree about the definition primary. For Studio this is the first library in your list libraries in Content Driectory Manager under DAZ Studio Formats). It depends on that to be able to find all the other bits it uses. nIt's already packaged. Just extract the contents of the content folder into your primary library and all will be well.
It should work with Connect, however, it will not save to the connect library.
EDIT: You must reload the target figure to see the changes. Some morphs will show immediately, but the will not be correctly configured. ATM I can't do that on a loaded figure.
Use it responsibly. Use it in peace.

Am I blind? I do not find the script.

Yep, it's on the githup: https://github.com/ArchitectMCP/GenNext  Keep in mind it only supports G3 to G8, but some shapes were causing issues with the arms. Riversoft has recently announced a product that is supposed to basically do the same: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/340346/coming-soon-character-converter-from-genesis-3-female-to-genesis-8-female-commercial#latest; AND it looks like Zevo has done the same: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/341526/xtransfer-commercial#latest

From looking at the two products, Zev's transfers supporting morphs, whereas Riversoft's doesn't.

... But both produce exellent products; I have a good few from both. :)

And Zevos works on both male and female G8 whereas the other version, as usual is for female only with the male version being an extra charge. Sticking with Zevo on this one.

I'm sure I'll get both and see which one I like the most - they both look great. And it looks like Riversoft's will have a script that will quickly transfer custom dialled characters from one figure in the scene to the other on the fly. That sounds awesome!

  • HOW DO I FIX THIS?

I wish I knew a fix for the arm, but if you have a modelling program you could probably do a quick morph to push that area out/straighten it a bit more.

The character looks amazing, by the way - what textures are you using for him? They look so good!

  • G8F distorted poses

These are joint-controlled morphs or morph controlled morphs - neither is set by the end user, joint-controlled morphs (JCMs) are triggered when certain bends (in this case the left thigh forward) are in effect, givng a more natural shape. Sometimes a shape that adds or removes a lot of bulk to the figure will need further refinement and that will use a morph that is zero unless both the bend (or the JCM) and the shape are non-zero. it's a very useful feature, but sometimes the setting up is off and you see undesirable effects (as here).

pJCMThighFwd_115_L sounds like a desired change - it's fixing the leg shape  as the thight bends - are you sure there isn't another morph coming on? It may be that the other is (correctly) tied to pJCMThighFwd_115_L, so zeroing that removes the distortion, but not, as it should be, tied to shape it is correcting for.

  • zbrush to daz clothing distortion after using transfer utility.

That looks as if the clothing was modelled around a morphed figure. If possible you should avoid working around a morph, but where you can't you can in the Transfer Utility set the Source Shape to the morph you used (or Current) and then in the extended option check Reverse Source Shape from Target.

  • How does this product work? PTF Grungy Threads can I get it to work in Blender?

Aw, Thanks that's nice of you!

But, I've seen these tutorials a good while ago. Particle hair sucks because you can't get long hair. The more you try to 'brush' it to make the ends lay down the more the top, no matter if you are touching that area or not, goes through the head mesh and makes 'male pattern baldness' spots. And as for the others I want realistic hair not anime. I'll check out the last video and see what that is about.

I bought part one of that three part or four part tutorial on hair from DAZ so I guess I will just continue with that and set aside Blender for a while and learn Hexagon. Blender is becoming more and more 'professional users/game makers' in its styling and even BornCG who makes great tutorials is starting to do more with games. So I was thinking last night that since I am also having trouble with the rigs I am building (for DAZ G8 models exported into Blender as Wavefront Objects) not deforming the mesh correctly in some areas and I really don't want to be bothered with trying to figure that out I will just learn more about DAZ since it looks like I can alter the figures and do UV maps and all sorts of stuff in DAZ. (I did look at some older rigging tutorials on youtube and learned some tricks to deform elbows better and such using 'socket rigs' by Dan Pro and then some other guy had a video where he showed how he just added extra bones here and there just to 'fill out' the mesh and all that worked to some extent but its a lot of work when if I could just make the characters look like I want and make them new skins like I can in Blender if I can do that in DAZ it would save a lot of effort.)

I imported an object (into DAZ) I downloaded from Turbosquid last night and got it to work even though I DO NOT understand the whole 'strength' thing with the diffuse settings and why the colors on the sliders don't look like those on the object... yadayadayada.

Lol, one of these days I will know what I am doing. The only problem is that I have a character I have been working on for a long time in Blender based off the G8 male. I don't know what to do about that. Probably start over. Bummer.

And how do you make the clothes fit other characters? That was the good thing about Blender I could use anything I wanted from the DAZ store 'cause I could alter it and size it to fit. If I dump Blender and go all in with DAZ I won't have that sort of control or will I?

Hey, whatever its a challenge and both programs are fun.

Thanks again for helping me. I know I will have LOTS more questions in the very near future. Maybe even in the next few minutes as my goal for today is firing up Hex and seeing what that is all about.

Actually, I do have a question. I downloaded a lot of low poly toony assets because I had created this turtle character, from a tutorial on youtube, and was going to write some stories and do some short animations as a hobby type thing ( I am not a professional I am an artist who started learning Blender and then DAZ because I wanted to set up realistic reference for real world paintings. And things quickly got out of control, lol. ) Could I import them into DAZ? I know the armature won't transfer over so I'd have to learn how to rig a character in DAZ now yet.

OR just buy a toony turtle from DAZ and alter it's mesh to look like I want in Hex? Is that what you call a morph?

    Soooooo much stuff to know!

Alright, I go off and run some experiments now. (mad scientist laughter.)

  • Shape Splitter - Divide, Combine and Save (The new version is already available. 1.2.1)[Commercial]

Thank you, that reminds me (having "pose to zero before spawn" unchecked) how confusing it can get if you don't zero the figure after spawning in order to see the created x-morph correctly. Also, one time I was unable to zero the figure because I had locked some node scaling - big confusion. Checking "currently used" is at least a quicker way to to see all the morphs that are on. Anyway, I'm very happy to say that after looking at various tuts, I have a method that's been working for me to split head and body on complex characters with this program and even save added DS smoothing modification. Overly simplified version / 1. Zero the character's resolution 2. Export the charactor as an obj. 3. Import the obj. with morph loader pro. 4. Adjust rigging to shape. 5. Split using the easy method in Shape Splitter. / Once you have the obj. in MLP you can add the DS smoothing modifier to your character, then "spawn morph", (with "pose to zero before spawn" unchecked ), and then the smoothing is captured, but remember to turn the smoothing modifier off after spawning in order to accurately see the spawned morph. You can then split things using the easy method. / I'll use this method some more, do some more testing and post a more detailed explanation that hopefully would help avoid some strange things that have happened in my tests. Thank you CGI3DM for this valuable addition to DS!

  • HOW DO I FIX THIS?

    Which figure?

    Which morphs/character have you used?

The arm shouldn't look like that.

Genesis 8  figure with Rarestone face morphs, EJBody Shape and Detail Morph (though nothing for the shoulder and or arms is turned on, mostly used for tweaking details like knee bones and fingers), Shape Shift for Genesis 8, but nothing ticked for shoulders of arms in that either.  .  . and yes, I agree, the arms shouldn't look like that yes

An important question is whether it happens in all poses, or just specific ones? You need to know whether you're looking for a standard or a corrective morph.

Personally, my solution would be to export the character shape to Blender and create a specific adjustment morph to tweak it to my taste. Although that's obviously not the easiest solution, having/learning the skills to create some  adjustments is a very valuable tool, as it's a very universal fix. Not every combination of morphs works perfectly together, and being able to fix carry out basic fixes yourself means you can do things that would be effectively impossible if you relied solely on products from the store.

This has been a persistant problem. Genesis 7 had it (in my program ), same as 4.
