you technically dont need to use a geoshell. There are multilayer shaders too, and also LIE. But geoshell with opacity mask is a common approach if you dont want to deal with multilayer shader or LIE.

Yes that is what they might be telling you to do, but take any advice from Daz forum posters with a grain of salt.  I assume this is for a personal project? You dont need this super complicated solution and there is a much more standard solution that doesnt involve any such impractical and convoluted steps.

Much easier solution for creating new textures:

Export the Character + Geograft as obj.

Import this mesh and the base color textures into Substance Painter or another 3D texture painting software which supports a multi UDIM texture painting workflow.

Blend across the region. E.g., in Substance Painter, use the clone stamp tool or some such to create the blending.

Export the updated base color textures (for the body and the geograft) and load them onto your figure + geograft in Daz.

Sorry for not spending more time here, but I've been dialing back my DAZ forum time the last few weeks and only been doing quick little "drive-bys". 

Never tried Weet-Bix or Weetabix, I was a sugar-packed cereal kid (which may explain a lot).

Now, Pringles, those and almost any potato chips are my downfall. It doesn't help that one of my favourites growing up ("Old Dutch") were made a 5-10 minute drive from where I live and from where I grew up.

I don't have that product, but a mistake was made while creating the metadata for it.

To solve the problem on your end:

• Click on the three dot
• In the search field, type Starter, there is a fair chance it'll select Genesis 9 Starter Essentials (it's the fastest way I have found to get back near every Genesis figures Compatibility Base). If it does, click on the magnifying glass to cycle through all products with Starter in their name.
• Open 'Genesis 8' and select 'Male'
• Click accept.

It should fix the problem.

If you feel lucky, you can open a ticket with Daz, hoping for a fix: metadata are Daz responsability.

The strangest part in your problem is that re-installing Genesis 8 Starter Essentials should have fixed it as far as I know.

Prior to Iray coming along, we had acces to Lux Render(which is also open source), via Paolo Ciccone's Reality plug in, and later Luxus by Spheric labs.

AFaik, neither received any support from other PA's, and both had been developmentally dead for years prior to their removal form the daz store in 2021 and 2020 repectively.

Relaity went open source long before it was NLA'd and is up on github.  I've seen a few attemptes to update it, but those have also been dead for years.

Not sure if Luxus still works, but it's NLA and locked to an almost 10 year old version of lux render, iirc.

 

We currently have accesss to Octane render, and again, PA support is basically non-existent, with 3 whole products that come up when i search the daz store for Octane render.

 

3delight support had massively declined prior to it's removal, with very few(if any) products having 3delight presets for several years.

 

Filament(which is open source) is an iffy. it's gotten some PA support, but it's not all that much for something that's been around for ~5 years.

 

Coming from a user perspective, the only thing that matters is if it's signifiantly faster at rendering on the same hardware than iray(wth indistinguishable results),  that render savings isn't completely lost in the conversion process, and, ti's stupid easy to convert the assets(one click, done).

Short of that, user support is going to be non-existent, except for some of the more hardcore types.

 

 

 

I think the important question to ask is, is a developer going to see a decent return from their renderer. Enough to justify continued delelopment/improvement. Probably not.

No worries. My interest in American Mid Century homes is just another recend idea of mine. Usually, you are correct, I have a preference for European homes.
In general I always appreciate, what is aside from the mainstream items.
All these vendors' items suggested to me are mostly great, that's why I got their items already.
My frustration is just seeing, that all marketplaces repeating itself over and over again. American busstops, diner, New York lofts and bla bla bla.
I am just not wired the way of the mainstream customer. Not in 3d marketplaces, not in real life marketplaces.
Most people wander through shops and selecting from what's available. 
I go into a shop with a tunnel vision for one specific idea and usually I just can't get, what I wanted.
So, yes I am ultra picky.
Still thank you all for you're suggestions, I'm just hard to please.

Also not helpful while shopping: when looking at store pages or search results pages etc,  I most often want to see WISHLISTED ITEMS and  ALSO see my own purchases in that deal bin, category or search returns or whatever.  Of course, if you bought it it is no longer on your WL, so those items will not show even if you UNCHECK "Hide Owned" if you ALSO have "Whishlist Only" checked.   The "Hide Owned" toggle need to operate yes or no seperately without consideration for wishlist status/check box.    This used to be the case for how those 2 filters worked before, as I used them that way for as long as I can recall.  Now, it seems the only way I can see my WL items AND my OWNED is to uncheck the WL filter and uncheck the OWNED filter so my owned will show, the WL items will show themselves by their flags but I have to pick through hundreds or thousands of unwanted items to see/find my owned & WL items. No convenient at all, again, sucking the value out of the WL feature and the filters generally.    For me this is a far worse issue than the slow page and module loading that has been a focus of many complaints since the  current round of site "upgrades" because it makes shopping so much more tedious and time consuming.  The difference between reviewing 62 pages of products (owned, not owned but unwanted, and WL'd) and 22 pages of only owned & WL'd is a lot of tedium and time just to shop.

By they way, I did finally get a response from the help desk yesterday. They said that we can share the DMC configuration files "unless they get a takedown request from the publisher", also they said they notified the forum mods as well that we can share the .dmc files,  so I will attach mine here for G9 based on the suggestions mentioned in the thread in case anyone needs it.

You might want to try getting an old-school external harddrive and keeping your product libraries there.  More reliable than SSDs, the speed difference is fairly neglibigle in terms of search and loading times, and tons more storage for the same dollar even though the price for an 8TB model has gone up from around $129 to $200+US in the last two years. 

I'd noticed an improvement going from a hard drive to a SATA SSD, back when those were relevant. The Gen 4 M.2 SSD in my new system is considerably faster than that. Given the number of random files Genesis figures load, my DS libraries would be the last thing I would put on a hard drive. However, I don't install every item I buy. I download the product zip files to the hard drive and only install the items on the SSD as I use them. I find that to be a better balance of speed vs storage cost. 

In the past 10 years, I've had problems with three hard drives, one outright failing. Only that first SATA SSD gave my any problems, and it was at least five years old by then. I'd transfered everything over to a new SSD without any trouble. A decent SSD will last quite a while. I wouldn't trust any with QLC chips as a main drive though. Drives with TLC chips were reasonably priced when I got mine, but the price of all of them have gone up since then.  

The price of everything computer related has gotten crazy, as the major manufacturers are unable to meet the demand for all the AI datacenters and everything I've read says that's only going to get worse before it gets better, if ever.  That said, with HDD'syou can get 8TB+ in a single drive for the price of a 2TB on an SSD, which makes them a a far more economical choice for expanding storage, and definitely cheaper than buying a whole new computer.  As far as reliability  goes, I've been running multiple harddrives for the last 20 years and I've had two HDD drives fail in all that time, one within a year of purchase.  By comparison, I've had 2 SSD drives fail in the last 10 years, one of which held my then-current copy of DAZ studio... but since all my libraries were broken down across several externals I didn't lose any of my pre-built scenes or characters.  SSD's are technically more reliable for portable use due to the lack of moving parts, but are more likely to fail due to power and firmware isues, and then there's the fact that flash memory has a limited number of cycles.

It is now up to 61.6% load. I mention it because for today, you can look at my time stamps and get an idea how long it is taking to load. In the future, I think the forum just lists date. But for now, you can see minutes. It took 17 minutes to advance another 4.8% of the load.

Agreed, 8Tb game drives work quite well for expanded storage and backup.
